this is a colonial style hotel beautifully laid out ,some chairs are representative of ol British and Indian army uniforms ,intimate dinning , I cant praise the staff highly enough nothing was to much trouble would highly recommend this hotel will definitely stay there again .

Really feel that at time of booking it should be made clear to customers that the hotel is right next to a literal construction site - it looks like a multi story carpark or something - it is but a few metres from the hotels front door.

The hotel is historic with interesting decor. it is conveniently located in Chinatown, near bars, restaurants and the subway station. Unfortunately, there is construction of a large building going on nearby. The hotel room was also nicely decorated, although it was small. Not big enough for a couple with two big suitcases. The sliding bathroom doors didn't close complete; one can guess what the consequences are. The floor in the bathroom. and shower was not clean. Breakfast was not bad.

This hotel has immense colonial charm (some won’t like it for that reason, but I did). A few little tips - Wotif says it’s 13km from Changi airport - Major furphy - more like 45mins (checked the taxi receipt so I could check the sense I was in the taxis for a v long time). Very positive is the Polo Bar (the staff rustled me up a cheese plate after hours) and the pool (unlike the high rise hotels which can be very busy I virtually had the pool to myself on a Sunday). Elegant mini bar. Great front desk service. This hotel grew on me!

Misleading Room and Disappointing Service — Not Worth the Executive Experience

I recently stayed at this property for a special occasion and was extremely disappointed with the experience. Upon check-in, I found that the windows in the room were completely blocked due to nearby construction — something that was never disclosed prior to arrival. The room was effectively windowless, which was not what I expected or paid for.

To make matters worse, the staff at the Executive Lounge — particularly the main server during the afternoon bites — was rude and dismissive, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Given that this was meant to be an upgraded executive experience, the service was far below expectations.

Overall, the lack of transparency, poor hospitality, and subpar room conditions left a negative impression. I would not recommend this property unless the construction ends and staff attitudes significantly improve.

From check-in to check-out, the service was excellent. The room wasn’t ready by the time I arrived, but when I returned from an appointment elsewhere, I got my key cards straight away. The concierge remembered my name then and again the next morning. While waiting for friends at Cultivate Café, I was comped for their drinks (even though we ended up going elsewhere for dinner), which was as unexpected as the slice of birthday cake and song that my friends arranged with the staff. Many thanks to Rosie in particular, whose birthday is the same as mine! Breakfast for two the next morning was generous, and with the late checkout we had time for a long walk around the area, dropping in for a bite or a drink at various restaurants. What a wonderful weekend!

Probably the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, Moldy and musty smell permeated the rooms and was given a room the first night with no windows! No one cared that the hotel smelled so bad nor did anyone follow up after I made a complaint via the front desk. I checked out early and went elsewhere.

Great historic grand old hotel. See what Singapore was like in the period prior to the World Wars. Staff was great, especially doorman, Jin, who was helpful and informative. The reason for the negative review around the property is due to a huge construction project going on along side the property currently.

Understaffed at check in - one clerk, three parties ahead of me, 26 min wait. Tried to phone for room service the evening I arrived, no one picked up dialing various numbers.

Also the layout of ground floor is inconvenient - nice to have a lobby where you can have an informal chat w someone or even get the computer out and do some work - instead they have decorative antique chairs marked “do not sit” in every available space, apart from the restaurant which was closed it being later evening.

Also a housekeeping cart permanently parked outside my room.

On the positive side, breakfast was spectacular, the room was clean & comfortable though small, and it was good value for money.

Amazing hotel - so historic - in fantastic condition with modern yet classic decor

Also I wanted a quick breakfast - I got coffee and scrambled eggs on toast in about 90 seconds. The team took care of my bags all day allowing me to sight-see on my last day and then offered me showers to change before going to the airport

Acceptable hotel, but not a 5 stars

Acceptable but definitely below average. Doesn’t qualify for 5 stars, 4 max. Very small rooms, extremely old with some broken items, doors, showers, light switches. No room service past 9pm (what’s the point ?), utterly pricey add ons (SGD 16 for nuts). Beds not comfortable.

Could do better

The Maxwell is a well placed hotel for travellers passing through on short trips. It’s unfortunate that the reception staff are ill informed about advance requests and therefore they are ignored. We asked them n booking for adjoining rooms as we are travelling with an elderly parent. At reception we were allocated rooms on different floors and told that these were the only rooms available for our 3 night stay. I was also told that I hadn’t booked breakfast or entitled to the Club Lounge, they would confirm in the morning that we do have that in our booking, but only once I produced the confirmation. The worst issue was that despite booking 2 double rooms, my elderly parent had been allocated a “small double for single occupancy”. Odd that it had a single bed in it! It also had a step down half a step inside the door and a very narrow route via the foot of the bed to get to the bathroom. Less than ideal for an 84 year old. On demanding a change a room was magically available on the ground floor, but without a proper window or view. Upsides are the exec lounge staff who can’t do enough, Rose should be teaching the front desk staff about service excellence.7

This is a four star hotel in fitout and service not five star. Some facilities like the pool area are tired and not maintained. But the biggest issue is there is serious construction happening right next to the building so you have very loud noise all day and your windows are covered over so you have no natural light. This hotel isn’t discounted as it should be for this fact. Don’t book here until after the works are finished or discounts are offered.

Summary: Do not stay there. Go and see the ground floor deco for free and stay somewhere else. We took a risk staying there which failed.

The Bad:
1. I would not have booked this hotel if I knew it was next to a huge building site with excavation going on. Noise most of the time. Very unpleasant. See my photos and compare to what the hotel shows in marketing photos.
2. We had a junior suite for ourselves and a regular room for our 14 and 18 year old kids. You cannot swing a cat in the rooms and bathrooms.
3. The hot water in the shower goes cold and the shower was filthy. See photo.
4. The outlook from the room was terrible and filthy. See photos.
5. The in built usb chargers next to the bed did not work. I did not bother reporting this to management as they are unresponsive.
6. When we first arrived, the safe in the room was missing. I went to reception to sort it out and the guy at reception was so rude and unapologetic. I asked for the duty manager to contact me but they never did. They did change our room with a really sour face.
7. The rooms are dark and dingy and uninviting after a hot Singapore day out. I thought we would wake up in a Saw movie.
8. My kids should not have been put in the room with inappropriate art on the wall. See photo.
9. A poorly managed and maintained establishment.

The Good
1. The breakfast was good.
2. Coffee was good.
3. The staff were nice except for the guy who checked us in and the bar tender in the Polo Bar.

Really beautiful property and wonderful staff - had an issue with our 1st room (water pressure & temperature) and they immediately moved us to another room. Restaurant quite expensive but the one dinner we had was awesome as well as the service. Many restaurants nearby but mostly Korean so which is great but a bit limited. Chinatown nearby so not a big deal.

Maxwell Reserve is a delightful elegant hotel. Amazing interior ambience and old world charm of days gone by. A haven of peace tranquility and relaxation in todays hectic times.

If one loves to read this hotel has has an amazing library. I enjoyed a complementary continental breakfast of organic plant based gmo free vegan delicious and so very healthy

Great hotel. The room was a little on the narrow but nothing you couldn't live with. Beautifully designed with an amazing shower. Could do with a little more handing storage for suits, shirts etc. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the black out blinds were top. Staff were extremely polite and helpful. I would definitely stay again.

The service and location are great. The staff is very accommodating. They need to open the other restaurant to offer more dining choices. The library bar is beautiful. Very historic look and feel. Some of the rooms are bit small, so be sure to check when you make your reservation.

This hotel was lovely in every way! The staff is so kind and helpful. The hotel was désignés by renowned French designer, Jacques Garcia. The rooms are compact but well-appointed. You have everything you need there. And the location is amazing! Walking distance to tons of great restaurants, bars, and workout classes. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.

The hotel is located in a prime location where it’s close to local food stalls such as kawker center, MRT and hipster bars and restaurants. When we arrived, the hotel was renovating their restaurant so there was limited dine-in options and only one restricted access in and out of the hotel which caused some inconvenience.

A swanky serene stay

This is a modern, new hotel, everything is in perfect condition. My room had a small sitting area, with decked out mini “bar”, as well as the (very comfortable) bed area. The room has lots of little luxury touches, for example a tea menu, and a stress relief foot massage ball. I had breakfast in their restaurant, impressive menu, they could benefit from some faster options for those who just need a quick bite. Overall a calm stylish option, I’d love to return when I have more time to enjoy.

Beautiful hotel but tiny room.

This is a very cool hotel built in a refurbished colonial era building in the historical area of Tanjong Padar. The neighborhood is full of restaurants, bars and boutiques of all levels. The hotel is very thoughtfully renovated and the hotel and rooms are well appointed. My only criticism (and it is pretty basic) is that my room (223) was so tiny that you could barely walk around the bed. Although it had a queen bed, two people could not stay in this room at the same time. I don’t know why they put me in such a tiny room as the hotel was not busy. It may have been a soft opening as there were teams of workers fixing things all over the place. If I had had a normal sized room, I would gladly stay here again.

Amazing in every way

I highly recommend the Six Senses Maxwell as a place to stay while visiting Singapore. Andres and his team provided 5 star service with an authentic spirit. The design is stunning. The rooms are tight but well appointed and worked well for my husband and our 17th month old son. The staff also effortlessly coordinated babysitting services at the last minute for us so we could enjoy all of the dining and nightlife around the hotel. The Maxwell is located right in the center of foodie heaven and very walkable. I hope to come back soon!

Der erste Eindruck des Hotels war recht düster und im 4. Stock, wo wir die erste Nacht verbrachten, roch es sehr muffig. Das Zimmer an sich ist sehr klein, also kaum Platz für 2 Koffer abzustellen. Auch war im Badezimmer keine Lüftung feststellbar. Somit war am nächsten morgen alles im Zimmer recht klamm. Dann zogen wir in den 2. Stock um. Das Zimmer war größer und ansprechender, aber angrenzend war eine Großbaustelle, die kaum Licht ins Zimmer ließ ubd ab 8 Uhr Baulärm zu hören war. Positiv hervorzuheben ist das Hotelpersonal, die gute Lage in Chinatown und das individuell servierte gute Frühstück.

5 stars hotel with room WITHOUT window? As alternative there was a room about 15m long and 2m large... not enough room for your luggage (I had to squeeze it behind the room door, which could be half open only, luckily I am lean). On the 1st night I had to stay at the Sofitel hotel nearby (that I had to pay in addition!) to have a room with window before the corridor room was freed for the rest of the stay (4 nights). And the room door lock does not work well (I was surprised the previous days why so many rooms had their door not closed) until you realise that your room also had the door open with all my belongings just available like that. Then you start paying attention to things that could have been details, the TV that can be visioned only if you are on the left side of the bed (the screen hangs sideway from the bed as the room is too narrow), the curtain that falls piece by piece, the side table is broken, etc etc Is this hotel worth it? It is pretty decorated but definitely overrated, the personnel is nice (hence the 2nd star in the rating) but a room with a 30x30 window on the ceiling only cannot be considered a room with window (because of the photos, I did check to be sure but there was no indication of \"no window\" - usually a feature of lower end hotels). Luckily none of my belongings was stolen when the door was not closed. Aaah also, there is a huge construction work next very next to the hotel that will last a few years
