Room was in okay condition-some of the floor tiles were damaged. No shampoo or condition, soap in shower was limited. Staff at front desk was not terribly helpful, asked for advice on restaurants and he told us just to walk into town. Breakfast offering was good. Hotel itself is tired and does need some updates.

Lovely hotel in Silves

Loved this hotel it was situated in a perfect location overlooking the castle. Fantastic choice of breakfast on the terrace or inside. Room was great, lots of hot water and storage. The swimming pool area was spotless and pool cleaned every morning, lots of sun beds and areas to sit. Small bar with nice staff. Silves is a small beautiful village and this hotel is perfect choice for a 2-3 days. Thoroughly recommended.

We had mixed feelings about our stay at this hotel. On one hand it has a beautiful exterior with great views of the town and the castle, the pool area is well maintained, parking is easy to find, AC in the rooms were functioning well, and the staff were responsive to our needs. On the other hand the rooms were outdated and generally look old, I know it's part of the general look of the hotel but small touches here and there would do wonders, also basic things like a mini fridge or an electric kettle were absent. Breakfast was ok, it had all the basics you can expect but definitely nothing to brag about. They were also doing some renovations in the kitchen area so some noises throughout the day are to be expected. Overall I'd recommend this hotel but mainly for where it is, the town is beautiful and quaint and very walkable. The hotel is ok and convenient but having been to many hotels, I'd hesitate to list it as a 3 star hotel.

Amazing view of the city. Beautiful grounds and well maintained pools. Nice lobby and dining area. Rooms are worn/dated and could use updating. Decent buffet breakfast included in our rate. Doing some sort of upgrade to halls and rooms as there were wires hanging out of the room ceilings and some hall walls. I suspect a smoke alarm system? Did not effect visit at all; did not hear any construction noise.

A gem in Silves

Having stayed at this hotel many times, we know exactly what to exoect. This time we had a room with a view overlooking the pool and across to the town. It may not be the the top end of hotels, but we love it. Pleasant breakfast, which if you so wished you could wat outside on the terrace. Just a short walk into Silves, with its many excellent restaurants. The grounds are beautifully kept.

Great hotel that never fails to disappoint

This is our 10th year of returning to Hotel Colina Dos Mouros and it never fails to disappoint. Staff are always so friendly and accommodating, rooms are cleaned daily without fail. Good selection for breakfast. Castle view room is beautiful.

Wonderful view of the castle and cathedral lit up at night. The staff very kind and helpful.
To save water especially in the Algarve, not necessary to change towels daily, in some hotels guests leave towels on the floor if they want them washed and I'd suggest new covers for the armchairs and sofas in the lounge area

It has some charm but...

The view is beautiful, and the location is excellent, and there are not a lot of options in Silves. But it felt a little grimy and if you suffer from allergies I wouldn't stay here beyond a night. The place needs a deep clean, and it would make one feel more welcome to have access to tea and coffee, if not in the rooms, at least in the lobby.

The hotel was pleasant, with friendly staff. I found there was not enough drawers in the room to put clothes, I had to leave clothes in my suitcase. There needs to be information sheets in the room reminding you what time breakfast is and that you can buy coffee anytime after breakfast during the day. breakfast was good with plenty to eat. Overall we had a pleasant stay and would return.

Careful not to book a room on the highway... noise. We changed our room to the side of the hotel facing the castle. The building needs some TLC. There were ants on a table next to the window. Ants in the bathroom sink area. Ants came into the room under the balcony door. Bed bug found. The staff carry bug spray on the housekeeping trollies. The regular day desk clerk, older fellow, is weak in the PR department. The property feels unhealthy, could be yhe bug spray. Breakfast buffet never changed while we were there. We wouldn't recommend this property at the price they charge, and definitely not for more than 1 night.

Out of season, out of sorts. 3 night stay in October and no great welcome from staff or interest/engagement and equally with not a lot for them to do seemed to keep it that way for selves. Hotel is nicely situated to walk into Silves to do the tourist trail and nice local places to eat. The hotel had little to offer other than view across. Don’t accept 207 or rooms either side as you will be wakened early with breakfast service as dining directly above rooms and dragging and screeching of chairs on floors is constant so no lie in. The room was big , basic , good hot running water and clean. There was no restaurant service other than breakfast which was ok but nothing remarkable. I say in my reviews the acid test is would I return, in this case no as it felt as if I troubled the lazy staff by turning up sorry to have disturbed.

A lovely hotel. I had a pleasant stay. The hotel is kept very clean. Travelled from Faro Airport to Faro City on the number 16 bus, then on the train to Silves, then walked about 20 minutes from the train stop to the hotel. A nice, peacful location, and about 5 minutes walk to the shops/bars. There are bus services to go to other places and taxi/Uber services available. I used Uber and it was very good and reasonable. If you want the nightlife you will need to go to other neighbouring towns, such as, Portimao and Albufeira. It is about 15 minutes in the taxi to Armacao de Pera beach. Overall, this is a lovely hotel that has a clean outdoor pool, they provide a continental breakfast each morning, they also have a bar.

A suggestion would be for the hotel rooms to have tea/coffee or a mini fridge.

Room was fine and the hotel had good facilities, with pool, and was convenient for exploring the old town, a few minutes' walk away over the river, where we could visit the sites, explore the streets and also dine in local restaurants.

The hotel had soap on a water bottle in the bathroom as none of the soap dispensers were working. We had to call reception twice to fix the tv and the air conditioning was also faulty.

The breakfast is not a buffet, you have to choose from a sheet that is handed to you...and there's no way you can ask to repeat.

We were allocated a room on ground level facing the drive a d main road... No Balcony. I complained to reception but he said the hotel was full and more or less said you get what you pay for. The room 304 was very dated and badly needs a make over quite dowdy. Free toiletries consisted of 2 soap dispenser one of which was completely empty.Extremely disappointed wouldn't return.

Had issues with room allocated as not what paid for and staff wanted extra to provide booked room! Hotels.com not answering phone although tried for two hours. The hotel was outdated and in need of investment and upgrading in every aspect. Staff were not engaged and very distant. Rooms, furniture and beds all needed refurbishment. Breakfast was dour and meagre. Glad only booked one night.

Good level of service for the money.

This hotel is well placed for Silves and it is quite a pleasurable walk to the centre of Silves. The staff were very obliging and helpful with everything, the rooms are cleaned daily and you have good views from most of the rooms. The WI-FI is limited to the lobby and maybe just outside the hotel sitting on the front and rear veranda, ample parking and there is a paddling and a good sized pool on the lower level plus loungers and tables.

Damp bedroom; cold lounge and breakfast areas; dismal decoration. Entire place needs revamping to bring it up to an acceptable standard. No tea making facilities, poorly maintained bathroom and bedroom; condensation on internal walls and on windows - unable to look out across the Silves skyline in the morning due to droplets on glass. If you are prone to asthma then this is not the Hotel for you.
Having said that the hotel is clean and tidy but day-time Reception staff need to smile more - they look depressed and thoroughly tired of dealing with customers. Not so the Reception night staff we met - they were extremely polite and willing to assist where possible - and smile.
Breakfast just adequate and fresh fruit salad great - together with the Portuguese rolls. Tables neatly laid.
BUT we did not pay a huge amount for our ten days so although we shall not choose to stay here again, it is close to Silves town and has a wonderful pool with great views.
Bring this Hotel up to date and it will be a winner.

Generally I was very please with the value of my stay at the hotel. There were two major gripes however. The first, and for me the most important, was that the bed was too hard and the pillows were in poor condition: I had to take ibuprofen and half a sleeping tablet, and still didn't sleep well. Of course, that may partly be because I am over 70. They really need to use mattresses of a standard hotel hardness. When I complained they explained that they had no other type of mattress available, nor a mattress pad (they could easily keep a couple in stock), but they promptly placed a blanket over the mattress, and that helped somewhat. The other major gripe was that there was no WiFi in the rooms, although it was good in the public spaces. These days, that is a serious failing. In the room, facilities for recharging cell phones by the bedside were a bit restricted, since a convenient socket was occupied by the bedside lamp.
Breakfast (included) was very good and staff were polite, responsive and helpful. The hotel was the cheapest I could find in the area, so one should not expect too much perhaps. All in all it was excellent value, being situated in a very pleasant rural area, but in easy walking distance of the historical town of Silves, and with ample parking facilities. It was misadvertised, perhaps, as being in the Loulé area: it is nearly an hour's drive away, if one avoids toll roads, as foreign tourists really have to.

Listening to some people’s comments they want 5star at 3star prices .myself and my brother have stayed at the colina mourns for the last 5Years and we always look forward to return.The breakfast buffet serves all our needs and the help from the reception staff you can’t fault. On arrival we were told that no booking existed. The receptionist made no attempt to find out what had gone wrong. We showed him the booking on our iPad . He then wanted a paper copy and asked us to email a copy of the booking to him. Eventually he agreed that we had booked and payed for our stay with Expedia. No apology was ever given. The whole process took over an hour. The lack of courtesy shown to us was rather depressing and spoiled the start of our much anticipated break.

Booked a double bed, arrived to find that all rooms had only singles and a fixed table between so was not able to punch together. When I questioned this was falsely advertised the staff did not care.
Rooms are basic which was fine just didn't find the staff very happy or helpful.
Nice area and potential for hotel could be a lot better than it is currently.

Beautiful location and hotel looks very impressive but the rooms had loud airconditioning units and uncomfortable beds.
The restaurant was closed, the free continental breakfast was not very good and we would only recommend staying here because of its close proximity to Silves.
On the plus side, the view was lovely, there was a very nice pool and it was an easy walk to the town.

Amazing little village. Close walk to Piri Piri BBQ or park across street. Our cheapest hotel in 20 days. The washroom was impeccably clean. Most of hotel same including pool itself but everything around pool including furniture and change rooms needed some attention. Ask for a room with view. We booked 4 months ago and looked at the road BUT we could see our car and felt secure about that ... who stays in the room for the view? Safe broken and plastic on mattress but remember 50 USD, 70 CDN.
A night on the road ... and BBQ.

Clean Hotel, in interesting town.

Clean hotel in best view in Silves. Friendly staff except for manager. Request to change room for room with balcony, met with shake of head and no explanation . No evening meal or proper lunch ,except for groups. Shame , as.Silves is a good base for walking with a portuguese feel as opposed to the coast which seems to be part of the British Empire !

Fine for a short stay.

The hotel is traditional in style with some darkish furnishings and corridors so would possibly not suit visitors wanting something bright and modern, though personally we prefer this more authentic look. Our room was very clean, with plenty of cupboard space, a tv showing a good selection of British programmes and a powerful shower. The key for the safe in the bedroom was available for a deposit plus daily charge (25 and 2 euros respectively when we were there). Although there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, the bar was open throughout the day so drinks could be purchased there and drunk on the outdoor terrace overlooking the castle and with storks gliding overhead.
Breakfast was the same each day but was perfectly adequate - fruit, breads, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, meats, etc. plus hot drinks and fruit juices.
We had the pool to ourselves much of the time - it was clean and seemed well-maintained, with plenty of loungers set out under straw parasols.
This seems to be a hotel used predominantly by groups on tours rather than individual tourists - not that this is a problem, just an observation.
Overall a good choice for a budget break in Silves - the hotel is within easy walking distance of a good selection of local eating places, a well-stocked Lidl for snacks and also bus links if you want to visit other towns in the locality.
