Great hotel, friendly staff

Overall the hotel and location were excellent, all the staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. We loved our room with our balcony overlooking the lake and river, we sat watching the birds every morning and evening.

There were a few minor things that could be simply changed that would improve the stay, coffee in the room would be great, even if it were just sachets. We had to ask for sugar and toilet rolls to be topped up. At breakfast many of the breakfast items weren’t topped up regularly enough so you found yourself asking for this. Finally there just wasn’t enough cupboard space for clothes when staying for more than a week and no space for the ladies to hang long dresses.

Need transport to get around but central for travelling around the Algarve.
Clean and tidy hotel with friendly helpful staff.
Good internet.
Gluten free and other allergies could be listed on food labels so as not to have to ask kitchen staff every day.

Out stay was excellent, staff really friendly especially the bar and restaurant.
My only complaint was the Housekeeping was not to a very high standard, towels forgotten one day, no visit at all one day, glass and floors not very clean.
This didn't spoil are stay though really enjoyed our time there.

Check in process for ok. The room I was given was perfect. Unfortunately at 9:15pm the neighbours were being super loud. Couldn’t get through to reception so went down to reception with my luggage.

The staff were friendly. The hotel was fine. I could stay there again. However, there is room for improvement.

I reserved a room with a river view. My room had a farm view with cows and horses. I complained, the front desk told me my room was not supposed to have the river view.

I have never been in a hotel where we are required to wear a swim-cap to get into a Jacuzzi. We do not swim in a jacuzzi, our head does not get into the water in the jacuzzi and yet, we are required to pay for a swim cap to get inside the jacuzzi.

The breakfast buffet was good. However, there is something that I found funny. There is a person dressed up as a chef on an egg station. This person nicely dressed as a chef does not make omelets or scrambled eggs, or anything else. The person is there to make fried eggs. I find it funny that the hotel dress someone up as a chef to fry eggs and cannot make omelets for the clients.

Anyway, some improvements are need for them to get a 5 star review.

We stayed for 7 nights. It was the perfect location for us, as we used it as a base while visiting several Algarve locations. It was very quiet and private. The staff and facilities were excellent, especially the breakfast buffet, which is totally worth including when you book. We booked a Studio that had a kitchenette. We wouldn't get that room again, as we didn't really use the kitchenette and never was able to figure out the microwave/oven combo. We were provided a tea kettle upon request. Overall we loved staying at the Riverside Agua and would definite stay there again, only we'd probably stay in a different room.

Overall good stay. The beds are extremely uncomfortable. The bathrooms gets smelly as theres no ventilation. It can be quite pricey. And there was a stressful issue at check out as they made a mistake with our booking. The spa was very affordable but the jacuzzi was not working.

Great stay

We had a lovely stay. Great suite with a kitchen. The fridge was broken before we got there and we’re given a minibar fridge instead and upgraded to half board rather than just breakfast. Breakfast was lovely and the evening dinner buffet changed the main meals every evening.
The hotel and surroundings are quiet with great views over the river. The infinity pool is lovely and was never very busy.
Only downside is that there was no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the bottled water wasn’t refreshed.

A disappointing 1-night stay as we were expecting a 4* experience and it's hard to see how this place has been rated. It was barely 3*. Everything was pared down to the minimum. Just about warm enough in the room with a noisy AC but no hot water at night and just warm in the morning. The room was clean and spacious but with only one desk chair, no tea making facilities or even glasses in the bathroom for washing teeth. Lumpy pillows and small bath towels. We asked for a kettle but it was useless without cups or teabags, though we were told we could buy some.The restaurant was cold at all meals so the food went cold quickly. We were told it was because there was a lot of glass frontage but the heating was inadequate. Everyone kept their coats on so dining was not comfortable.The warmest place was the reception and it was bizarre having to walk outside to access the room, restaurant and spa as no interior walkways joined the buildings. May not be so bad in a warm summer but accessing the spa was particularly difficult. Robes and towels were 'for hire', changing area unclean, no soap in the 2 small showers. About 15 lockers but only one tiny bench to barely sit 3, so changing was uncomfortable and there was nowhere to relax. Astonishingly, there was no drinking water available so the spa barely met health and safety standards for treatments and certainly no 4* luxury.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel last September and had a lovely stay. Great facilities and just a 5-10 min Uber or 15-20 min walk from Portimao. Couldn't ask for better. If I had to complain about anything though it would simply be lack of a kettle in the rooms and an iron would be a nice touch.

It was my friends birthday during our stay at this hotel and the staff were ever so accommodating. Our room was upgraded to a suite with the most stunning view, and a bottle of champagne was left in our room for with a lovely well wish note for her birthday. They went above and beyond for us, I honestly couldn't reccomend this hotel enough.

Could do much better!

Not even close to being a 4 star hotel but could be. Bedroom and bathroom a good size with nice balcony but very basic in comfort. Only 1 small soap, shower gel and shampoo - really only enough for 1 person and only 1 glass in bathroom with 2 sinks, yet the room was a \"double\". As usual the extractor fan was not working in the bathroom! The room lacked atmosphere and was very clinical in decor and design.
There was no menu available for the restaurant, the evening offering turned out to be a buffet which does not appeal to us, so we found a fabulous local restaurant and ate there.
Breakfast, while there was a wide selection available, was shambolic and chaotic with mostly large tables which meant sharing with strangers - more like a hostel than 4 star hotel. Our booking included breakfast in the price, but if you hadn't taken this option there was no-one there to check whether or not you had paid for breakfast.
It is the first hotel, of any standard, where you have had to pay to \"hire\" a bathrobe with a deposit of 20 euro and a daily cost of 1.95 euro! We did not avail of this \"service\".
This hotel has a great site on the river bank and could be very good, but based on our stay we will not be returning unless it \"ups its game\".

Great hotel. Nice quiet area but close enough to beach and Prade de rossa and Alvor. Close to Portimao town. Good transport services. Hotel has two pools.one inside as well as outside. A gym and sauna facilities .But it's greatest asset is its staff. They are the most helpful and friendliest people you could meet.

This was my second time here. Having a kitchen in the room is useful. Really handy for the train station. Yes, its a bit of a walk into Ferragudo itself, but it is doable. Uber is a good way to get around if you're not so keen on walking.

Beautiful hotel with very comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast is nice and well laid out but could have altered some of the choices from time to time. Cleanliness of the hotel, grounds and restaurant is superb, rooms are always kept neat and tidy but a little more of a wipe around would have been appreciated. Rooms and balconies are lovely, spacious and private however you can hear quite a bit from the rooms either side. But with thanks to them, we didn't miss breakfast! Pool area is really beautiful, especially when the tide of the river is in, the pool water is really very cold but perfect for the height of summer I imagine. Hotel is in great location for peace and quiet. If you like to explore it is great for public transport links with a bus stop just outside and a train station 15 minutes walk away, or if you hire a car the hotel has a large carpark to accommodate. They also provide a river taxi service into Portimão directly from the hotel. Would stay again if we were to come back to the area however adventure calls from somewhere new next time...

Ideal Holiday

The Hotel and staff couldn't have been better! We wanted to visit as many beaches and towns nearby as possible so we simply rented a scooter for the length of our stay and this made travelling from town to town extremely easy. Parking wasnt a problem anywhere as well. All Hotel facities were great. This is the 2nd time staying at this hotel and it hasn't dissapointed so far. Would recommend this hotel to everyone.

The rooms don’t have the cozy sofas and don’t have any typos of decoration that shows in the photos
They refuse to clean our room, in the balcony’s smells really bed and the location of the hotel it’s not really good, not a friendly neighborhood.
It could be dangerous
There are no restaurants or coffee nearby and if you have a big car don’t try to park in the indoor park. You are going to damage your car if you try
Also in the car park you can see towels, linen and mattress in the floor

Ideal location

We stayed at this hotel in November shortly after the holiday season had finished. The hotel was quiet but it was perfect for what we wanted. The hotel staff were lovely and went to such an effort, especially the gentleman who works in the bar in the day and at night. He was very friendly and made delicious cocktails!

The hotel is fairly easy to find too. Really easy to check in and out also. When we got to our room it was gorgeous and so clean! The tiles on the floor were sparkling! We also had a refrigerator so we could keep water and food cold! The only thing we were disappointed with was the beds, they were very uncomfortable and springy. I did struggle to sleep the whole time we stayed there. On the plus side our room had the most stunning view over the river and of Portimao!

Whilst staying at the hotel I used the spa which was lovely and ery clean, I had a massage too and it was wonderful!

The only other downside is the smell of the sewage that passes every now and again, if you close your balcony door and turn the air con on it's easy to avoid.
But don't let the ruin your time at this hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, as it's a short 2 minute walk to the nearest food supermarket and a short 10 minute walk into the town, portimao is also just over the bridge. I would definitely recommend renting a car as you can travel all over the algarve which is surprising a small journey to each town and beaches.

I would 100% recommend this hotel.

Drips, ants but delightful staff

Within seconds of walking into our studio a lady came into our room and started checking behind curtains and furniture, she gave no explanation of who she was , why or what she was doing. She then proceeded to kill ants on the floor with her finger. I followed her to reception and I was told she was looking for bugs. Our room was very hot so we turned on the air conditioning which started to drip straight away, we tried to call house keeping but out phone was broken. Reception said the air con and phone would be fixed next day or else we would be moved. The phone was never fixed, and we asked several time for both the air conditioning to be fixed. Each day I asked for it to be fixed, the floor was dangerously slippery when wet, buckets were provided every day so eventually we gave up and just kept asking for a bucket. As for the ants, they came in on their droves, they were in our luggage and Bed. Room 142 has problems which should be addressed, we are pretty easy going and didn’t let the problems ruin our holiday. The staff were a lovely and I would stay here again, our friends room was find.

very hard to find hotel in Parchal.

Got an updated room ,No toaster ,No coffee maker,One chair and abench {very dated.}Requested a cot for my son .The cot was too big for the room so had to get an extra room.,what was an extra room charge.. , The restaurant has funny opening times f0r dinner and mostly runs with a table d,hote ,That means only 2 maincourses with an appetizer ,salad and/or soup.and dessert. The outside pool is pretty cold in Oktober but after approx 5 minutes your body is getting used to the temp.OK than you use the inside pool what is really a wade pool ,The hot tub was 33C so not hot at all .The inside pool ,sauna and hot tub are closed at 7PM. Overall a decent place but needs a couple of tweaks to make it more comfortable.

This is not a 4* hotel; linen and towels were stained. Pool towels had holes in them and breakfast was limited. However the rooms are very spacious and clean. The hotel is very contemporary and the staff very accomodating. Take your own iron as they do not provide one, only an ironing service at a cost. And also take a swim cap as this is compulsory in thr indoor plunge pool.

Liked location and view over the river. Overall happy with the stay.
Train station with direct line to Faro (5 euros, 1 hr 30 min), Portimao (1 euro, 5 min) and Lagos (2 euros, 25 min) 5 min away. Station has authentic restaurant (we didn't try the food). You cannot hear the trains in the hotel.
Food shop is 2 min away.
Dishwasher, cooker, microwave, grill, fridge in kitchen.
Lovely breakfast place just 10 min away.

We found the standard room we had booked to be rather 'minimalist' very stylish but with little comfort - could do with a bit more furniture! Buffet Breakfast was great with the restaurant being in a lovely location right by the river. Disappointing that the only meal available in the evening was a Buffet meal, not to our taste so we used the near by village of Ferragudo (3km) where there was more local food and better atmosphere, but of course you need a car to do that.

This hotel is perfect if you are travelling the Algarve region with young children. It's away from the high tourist zones. The rooms are comfortable and quite large and modern. It has a pool overlooking the river and grounds for children to run around. It's not close to the beach but the town is centrally located near all the interesting towns/beaches to visit (10-15 mins drive)
We were a couple traveling without kids. Hotel room was very clean but the A/C barely functionned. With weather in high 30's you definitely need A/C. They agreed to give us a floor fan for the night and they did send someone to fix it the next day. It still wasnt the best A/C but it was ok.
Apart from the restaurant staff who as very nice and accomodating , front desk staff was not. It's as though you are disturbing them by just saying hello. They also have strict rules. For example : When I asked for a second room key/card , I was told that only people who rent suites get two cards. Since we only had a regular room, he made sure to tell me that giving me a second card was an exception and that I'd better bring both back at our departure. The ambiance just isnt a friendly in general. Two nights there was enough.

Very nice but could do with a few improvements

We really liked the hotel but there were a few niggles. Nothing major just little tips to improve the experience.

Parking, wifi, and the standard of rooms was great. However the housekeeping was a little hit and miss, the replenishment on complimentary items was non existent and we had some old towels. The standard of cleaning wasn't the best but I have certainly seen worse.

I would also have liked thicker mattress toppers. The ones we had were very thin and didn't add any comfort to the bed.

However as I said it was a very enjoyable stay and would happily go back again.

Oh and take the Cave Trip!! It was absolutely amazing - you really get the best experience possible and The Skipper was great. Really knew his stuff and looked after us really well. Perhaps the highlight of our trip!!!

Avoid the restaurant

Staff in the restaurant are not focused on helping customers and are quite rude and unhelpful. Food quality is poor and the menu is limited.

Location is very isolated so if you cant get about you will be disappointed by the food options.

Visited hotel at end of June for a week.

Room was large and clean with a nice balcony. It had a kitchen area (no kettle), but sufficient to make breakfast and keep drinks cold in the fridge. The air conditioning was leaking when we arrived, but this was sorted out v quickly by reception and we had no problems with it after that.
Staff at reception v helpful (Teresa helped us on many occasions- thank you) with advising on where to get buses, printed us a timetable, and ordering us taxis etc (taxis can take a while, it is just how it is!)
Was v warm but windy when we arrived... the wind seemed to blow an unpleasant smell from the river over the pool area..... but on the days that the wind dropped this smell was not noticeable. We were told by someone (unrelated to the hotel) that across the river there are some building works going on to the old sewage works and that when completed that the smell will no longer happen.....
We only ate snacks at the hotel and ate out in the evenings in Ferraguda and Portimaio, a 5 min taxi ride, cost about 6 euros.
There was nowhere other than the restaurant area to sit and relax with a drink in the evening, it would have been nice if there had been a seating area in comfy chairs/sofas, to have drinks in the eve. Also there was no music etc in the eve, until our last night , when a live band played, this really lifted the atmosphere and people stayed down around the dining and pool area having a drink and chat, which was really nice.....

Great place to relax and unwind!

Hi,

I went to Algarve for a week and stayed at the Riverside Hotel. I arrived super late in the night due to my delayed flight. I woke up the next day and realised where I was, I had a great relaxing view when waking up, it was beautiful! I rented a car which was the best thing to do as it doesn't trap you in one place. The hotel has free parking which is great and free WiFi.

The hotel staff was absolutely lovely. Every morning I wanted to use their gym facilities so will get there early and they will open the gym for me prior opening hours. Everybody is reaaaaallly nice, from people at reception, to people from the restaurant, to the cleaning ladies and handyman.

The room I had was modern, spacious, comfortable and really clean and minimal, the dream. The pool is beautiful but didn't try it as most of the time I will take the car and drive to different places to try different beaches. The only thing I would say about the room is that I had a tiny fridge, not a deal breaker tho. If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind this would be it! There is also a spa, which I ended up using everyday too. I loved the place and I wish I could of stayed longer.

Also I would like to speak about the experience with expedia that I thought was absolutely great! They understand their online users and customers. As soon as I got my car I received and email from expedia to rate my experience, same for my room at the hotel. Well done expedia! 5* user experience to me.

Agua riverside is marketed as a holiday hotel. given its position in a fairly rundown area on the edge of Portimao, it is difficult to justify this. The rooms are smart & clean, the hotel whilst being fairly soulless is clean, the breakfast was good, staff were friendly, however if you didn't have transport you would feel isolated. There is a pool which is overlooking the river which seemed small for the amount of rooms, a gym & restaurant/bar which was pretty much empty every time we used it (breakfast apart). There was supposed to be cycle hire, watersports & a shuttle ferry to the nearest beach, none of which appeared to be available during our stay. The local area looks a bit run down with the river on one end & a smelly pool on the side we were staying in, there was incessant dog barking at night. My review might make this sound like it is a bad place, which it isn't, however it isn't a holiday hotel.

Nice hotel, good location

Stayed for a few days before attending a wedding. Was very happy with the hotel; the room was a really nice size with a balcony and huge bathroom. It was very clean and comfortable. The location was good with amenities nearby. The staff were very helpful and friendly and it had a lovely pool with views over the estuary.

A bit distance from local shops and transport link. Will need a cab at most case and local transport closes early. Was a bit disappointed that a 4* hotel didn't provide free in room tea. Overall nice and peaceful. If you have a late flight that didn't let us stay in room.

Excellent hotel.

Clean, modern, large comfortable rooms with fully equiped kitchen, lounge, separate bedroom, double balcony .
Supermarket 200mtrs away plus a couple of restaurants within walking distance
Staff very helpfull.Good buffet breakfast & lunch.
Only one flaw you do need taxis to the two nearest places and the beach,but only 5 euros.
The hotel does have a water taxi but only in high season. Apart from this can't fault this hotel.

Lovely Hotel close to the river

Had a lovely 6 night stay at this hotel. Was impressed with the room (junior suite) and the staff were lovely. The only downside was the strange smell which eminated from the river when the tide went out. The hotel is in a quiet remote location. The nearest big town Portima is a short drive or a 20 minute walk away. If your looking to relax this is perfect, if your looking to party probably not the right hotel for you. There is a good supermarket a short walk from the hotel and a Lidl 10 minute walk away.

The location is far away from beaches, night restaurants if don't have your own transport like car rented it's difficult. The Hotel charge you in separate for the breakfast. I never seen this before. All hotel I've had stayed I never paid for breakfast.
It's a 4 star hotel. unacceptable.

Nice hotel, bad location, complacent staff

The inside of the rooms are nice - we stayed in studios- but the hotel isn't in a good location unless you take the bus (15 min to portimao, and run every hour), or the aqua taxi (call and book) costing €18 per person to Praia de rocha. The skipper (who's lovely) will take you to a close beach (Praia grande) for €5, but he does not travel to any other beaches, and it's only one cost per day 10am drop off and 5pm pick up.
The reception staff are lazy, I waited 15 min on average to be seen for simple things (like switching beach towels). Often they don't offer to help you, but leave one person to serve everyone (even though there are 4 people hovering around).

Modern hotel in a peaceful setting

The hotel was great and located in quiet location. The rooms were clean and bathrooms roomy and stylish with air con and a television. The pool always had enough loungers available and the view of the river was lovely. The Breakfast buffet had a wide variety of food & drinks. Only €6 taxi to portimao town or 35 minute walk. Supermarket about a 3 minute walk and local cafe/bakeries about 10 minutes. The hotel runs its own boat tours which was handy.

Not as good as expected

The hotel is in a very quiet part of town, I'd highly recommend a car to get to the beaches and other places.

The hotel doesn't have enough sun loungers for guests around the pool. The pool is relatively small. When we asked if there were more that could be put out we were told there wasn't.

Food options are limited in the restaurant. Breakfast is the same everyday, lunch options are things e.g. toasties and are fairly dull and although we didn't have dinner in the retardant we were told it's a buffet every night.

The spa is small and some parts were closed because they were out of order whilst we were there which was disappointing.

The cleaners don't really clean your room very well and on several days left us without towels.

The junior suites are advertised as having kitchenettes, there are no basic household products provided e.g. washing up liquid, dishcloths etc and no kettle or toaster. Our suite only had one cereal bowl but 5 mugs and random numbers of other crockery.

Overall, the hotel is located in a good place if you're happy to drive everyday and to eat out and not spend much time in the hotel itself.

staff are friendly, room was upgraded to a studio but although a nice kitchen area there was nothing to make tea or coffee, however a kettle was brought when requested. The rooms are ok, but need better pillows. The bathrooms are very nice, but the towels are hard and tired. The outside areas are very nice, the corridors though inside feel like a prison or unfinished building site as they are dark and grey concrete, but a good design. Breakfast buffet was usual hotel fare, hot and cold choices and a decent selection. The pool is lovely. So a decent hotel for a couple of nights with very nice staff

Good place to stay and relax for a few days and good value for money. Was really handy having a full kitchenette. Restaurant was good and service was fine. Spa was nice... though rather annoying (and a little odd as I don't have that much hair anyway!) that one had to purchase a swimming cap for use in the spa. Some nice beaches and restaurants within a few miles. Fine if you don't mind walking (like us) or have transport but some may want more close by.
