This was by far my best hotel choice I have ever made! The staff were amazing and the hotel was so beautifully done! The spa had the best massage I have ever had! The breakfast was perfection! I cannot recommend this place enough!

Canadian here. After 17 days of touring Portugal, this final stop was the icing on the cake. Opulence around every corner! Gated, beautiful location right on the beach. The pool area is exactly what you’d expect from a five star hotel. Breakfast overlooking the beach was magic. For my Canadian friends, think a smaller version of one of our CN hotels. Luxurious.

Stunning property… exquisite dining experience. Extremely attentive staff. Breakfast was amazing, including the views.
Pool was very relaxing. Gym is well equipped.
Housekeeping was above and beyond… fresh towels often, turn-down every evening with a little treat.
Very reasonably priced for the amenities and service! We would definitely return.

BEAUTIFUL property, amazong staff, not at all worth the premium prices. We stayed in a few other hotels in Portugal on this trip. All of them were significantly less expensivw, just as clean, offered all of the same amenities, and were a better value for the money.

The preservation of the original home and its fine architecture, Brazilian wood, and gorgeous hand painted tiles was meticulous and made for a very special stay. We really enjoyed the incredible presentation of our salt crusted sea bass at dinner. The service and food were top notch. We were also delighted with our gracious room upgrade, bottle of champagne upon arrival. Delightful property!

This is a special hotel. The mansion is stunning. The staff are wonderful. The experience at breakfast is amazing. The ladies in the morning do a wonderful job. If you drive make sure you know the code to enter the road in front of the hotel which I missed on the introductory email unfortunately. That is important as you can’t access the road without it. As you drive up you wonder about your choice given the immediate surroundings but once you enter the driveway and mansion all is well. Great experience. If you go you MUST do a private boat tour of the coast with Alvor Boat Trips. This is a requirement!

No sure how this place got its 5 star or maybe its been paying to retain it since 1881 since the conditions of these hotel rooms would suggest that was when it was last renovated, or even cleaned.

Upon arrival, you are met with a bombarding strip of drunk loud tourists which the hotel imagines you’ll leave behind once they close an open bared gate. Dont let that fool you, drum and bass are still banging through well into your confined jail cell. 350sq ft has miraculously translated to 200sq ft here at Bela Vista.

It makes sense why they dont issue refunds, without the blown out lighting and what I’d assume is facetune for the hospitality challenged, all guest will be rushing out the door when they lay down for a goods night rest only to be met with stains on their pillows.

This is a very special place: grown-up, sophisticated and the very opposite of a chain. A short walk down to the huge beach. And, a haven from the craziness of the street on the other side of the elegant gates. The breakfast bar is extraordinary. Staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. I rarely say this, as the world is big, but we will be back.

We loved our stay at Bela Vista! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable from the second we arrived. Portimão itself is perhaps a little more touristy than other cities in the Algarve, but Bela Vista felt like an oasis away from this. We absolutely LOVED the daily breakfast, pool facilities, and Vista Restaurant - this was the best meal we’ve ever had in our lives!

Property was lovely as was most of the staff. I had an unfortunate experience as because I booked through Travelocity instead of direct that I was made to feel from a male staff receptionist that I was not important.
A second booking for my son did not get through (my fault). When my son booked the hotel across the street I was told the would not accommodate him as my guest. Very glad that his name was on my room instead.
Bottom line book directly with this hotel.

Bela Vista is a stunning property. And not just the views and stellar condition of the hotel but the entire team from Gonzalo to the front desk to the restaurant to the amazing spa team - everyone is incredible. They make you feel immediately at home when you arrive. My room felt like the perfect beach getaway with ocean views, a patio, comfortable bed and towels for the beach. The pool is gorgeous with beautiful chairs and cabanas. I enjoyed morning cappuccinos and afternoon pina coladas poolside while pleasant music played. I overheard the property was booked but it never once felt crowded. The entire staff does an amazing job having this property stand out even checking in prior to my arrival. The spa services are so relaxing. And Vista was the best restaurant I frequented in all of Portugal. I cannot wait to return.

The location and the beautiful artwork of the building was lovely. The dining room staff and the house cleaners were all so kind and helpful, which we loved. The beach was right there, but I anticipated not having to pay for a beach chair as a part of my hotel stay. What really bothered us was the night we flew in; we couldn't locate the transportation service the hotel provided and had to take a taxi. We then travelled to the hotel and were met by the concierge who seemed annoyed with us even though we waited and asked around for our driver. I asked if I could possibly get my money back and was treated rudely. We were then told we couldn't get a tour because it was too late (we never got the tour, nor were we asking at the time). It was kind of a bummer because this was the last leg of our journey. All the other hotels in Germany and Spain were so so so friendly and this one felt a bit snobby and stiff.

Unfortunately I could not give this hotel 5 stars due to the location of the hotel and the pictures of the hotel on their website are quite misleading. The hotel spa is not free to use for guests and the hotel charge for parking in the hotel grounds €15 per day. However the staff were fantastic and breakfast was also excellent

The Bela Vista is a jewel of a hotel sat in an otherwise typical holiday seaside environment. Commanding an elevated view of the magnificent beachfront, the experience is absolutely first class from check in to check out (in particular the breakfast, dining and pool aspects). There is 1 simple reason for this...the staff! They are the best we have ever encountered in all our years holidaying and returning here for the 5th time was no exception. With all the challenges of COVID (even being on the 'Green List'!) they worked proactively to ensure the holiday experience was not affected in any way.
We are already planning our next (6th) visit...

Thank goodness we were staying at this hotel! It was beautiful, peaceful and completely stood out compared to the rest of what’s around. The town of Portimao was such a disappointment, it was too crowded for our taste even in mid season and we didn’t come to Portugal to feel like we were in Ireland to be honest. But now that we know this we will never be returning to this area. The hotel however is highly recommended, we are always satisfied with the Relais & Châteaux group.

The property is beautiful, but there’s nothing to do. The spa was a huge disappointment for the cost of the service.. the plunge pool room reeks of mildew and the massages were mediocre at best (we booked 3 and 1 facial). They are a gated property with a huge parking lot so charging for parking was pretty pathetic. Being told we can’t eat anything that isn’t purchased from the bar was a little much as well, so we snuck our own snacks in anyway. We were a large group and there’s a store literally across the street. Sometimes you just want to nibble on snacks, not order a meal or beverage from the bar.

Would be nice if they had shuffleboard or a games room, croquette, I don’t know, ANYTHING in the way of entertainment. Maybe live music or something on occasion.

The staff was wonderful, as were the breakfasts, impeccable really, but sooooooooooooo slow. Order your coffee/tea and eggs IMMEDIATELY or you’ll never get them. Also, the hard boiled eggs are soft so if you want a true hard boiled, specify clearly. The lattes, fresh squeezed orange juice and Madeline’s are delicious.

The showers leak onto the floor, all of them, it’s weird. They have this half panel of glass that moves & water goes everywhere, which you waste half your towels wiping up. There’s also a weird window into the shower with shutters that open from the outside & you can see through even when they’re closed.

Was hoping to hear the history of the building, but nobody knew anything.. its gorgeous!

Perfect oasis on the Algarve

My husband and I spent five nights at the Bela Vista as part of a three week trip to Portugal. It was a perfect oasis. The hotel is relatively small and is beautifully decorated. The service was exceptional. Dinner in the Vista restaurant was outstanding. Views from the hotel over the beach are gorgeous. We decided to forego some sightseeing plans and spent most of the days relaxing en premise.

The food was very good.
The staff should become more professional, even it’s very available.
We don’t agree with the philosophy of Hotel do not include in the room cost the entrance of the spa.
In fact the spa have a cost a part.
Very odd!

Really couldn't be better!

The staff were incredibly attentive catering to your every need. The grounds were immaculate with a terrific view of the beach. Pool was perfect temperature and chaise loungers were constantly being supplied with fresh towels. Our room was spacious, super clean, lots of closet space with very nice bathroom. Breakfast buffet on the sunny deck was a great way to start the day!

Third visit and the quality is maintained. The staff are amazing with particular mention to deborah,allana and mara. They make it extra special with service unlike anywhere ive ever been before. It is unfortunate that it is not adults only and over 12's are allowed (whilst limited in number). The pool area is quiet and relaxed, the spa is excellent and very good value for money. Being gated and off the main strip is ideal as it keeps the hotel secluded but literally 2 mins from shops and restaurants. We have stayed in the main hotel, the garden rooms and the blue house and the garden room is my fav with lovely see view balconies. The free smoothies by the pool are fantastic. Expensive but worth every penny

Fantastic people and facility

Even before we arrived, the staff at Bela Vista were impressive, handling pre-bookings for local activities and meals. The rooms, common areas and pool were first class, modern amenities and decor in a beautiful setting set above a wide Atlantic beach. Tasting menu dinner at Vista is an experience, be prepared for a leisurely multi-course experience to die for with service above and beyond! In a word, extraordinary people and place.

Poor service ruins the overall experience !

Amazing property, location, etc., and for the most part the service was good, but on the last day they couldn't give us even the slightest late check out and insisted that it was because they needed three (3) hours to clean the room before the next guest arrived. They admitted that they didn't know exactly when the guest would arrive, but that they need three (3) !!! hours to clean the room. I explained that the day before, they cleaned the room for us in about 20 minutes. Then there was a whole explanation of all of their cleanliness standards, etc. They made us feel like we were the reason they needed three hours to clean the room.... however, as a couple with borderline OCD, we left the room pretty darn clean ! We also had trouble with our check-in as our room was still in use by another guest, so we had to spend the first two days in a lesser room than we paid for, and still, they couldn't give us an extra hour of late check out.... I would not return to this hotel, even though the property is well located and in great condition.

The hotel is great - wish there was more action at the hotel bar. Breakfast was fine - service there was quite good. Pool service was very good. The hotel is literally surrounded by cheesy hotels and gift shops. I would recommend making the drive to Oceans if you are into food - 25 minute drive to a 2 star michelin restaurant. Highlight of the trip!

A Wonderful Getaway

We had the most incredible stay at the Bela Vista. We were 4 women in our 30s on a summer getaway and the service and accommodations were top notch. We also took advantage of the beautiful spa. The staff is fantastic. Any recommendation provided for meals was delicious and any request we had was met with utter professionalism. Would highly recommend a stay here.

Wow what a fabulous hotel..we could not fault It...everything from beginning to end of our stay was perfect. We had 2 meals within the hotel, it's necessary to book on arrival or further in advance as they have a small magnificent restaurant...the meals were exquisite,not surprising as they have Michelin star. The pool area was perfect and it was easy to wile away the day under the fluttering umbrellas and attentive staff.

Lovely stay. Beautiful location and friendly staff. Perhaps the only complaint is that the dinner at the hotel was so theatrical in its presentation, it became almost silly and certainly went on too long. Otherwise, the pool, spa, beach and grounds were all delightful.

The hotel was very beautiful. I was expecting a lot more from the level of service considering it was a 5 star chateaux Relais property.
There was no actual concierge so the front desk handles the requests. Our second day we asked for a recomendation for a nice seafood dinner. The lady at the front desk called and confirmed with us later without properly advising us about the restaurant. We drove 45 mins to the location and was so embarrassed as there was a dress code that didn't allow casual wear ie. Bermuda Shorts. ALSO she sent us to a 2 star Michellin restaurant without telling us about a dress code or that it was a 2 star Michelin for 200 euros each for a long lengthily 8 course tasting menu with no other choice but that. We made the best of it after 4 hour long hours and 600 euros on dinner and wine.
The following day we spoke to the hotel manager to advise him about how embarrassed we were that the girl at the desk would send us to a 2 star Michellin without informing us either about the quality of the restaurant and or a dress code.
The worst part in my opinion was how rude she was after we had privately talked to the manager in discretion and never once received an apology from her.
The Dutch girl at breakfast was super pleasant and refreshing !
I would never stay here again. The area itself felt like a circus show with all the cheesy shops and the strip club a few doors down.

What a disappointment

This hotel claims to be high-end 5-star hotel but was a disappointment from start to finish. On arrival we were shown into the private check-in area and offered a drink, but this just seemed an excuse for very slow check-in process. The service was sycophantic and quite over the top in its language but this was never followed up by efficiency of actions. They boast of their high-end restaurant but we didn't get to sample it because it was fully booked for every night of our stay. This is not really very good. Our room was in a separate building to the main hotel which is quite small. This was not ideal, but we booked a standard room so can't complain. The rooms looked like they had been recently refurbished but the finish was of a very poor quality and certainly not what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. Service around the pool was non-existent. I had to collect my own menu and then walk to the bar to order drinks. There was nothing satisfying about this hotel. It has the potential to be excellent but somehow manages to be simply annoying.
