Excellent accommodation that exceeded our expectations but unfortunately the main idea of our stay was to enjoy the wellness facilities which were closed and we should have been informed prior to arrival.
Being in February and the weather not being warm enough to enjoy the outdoor pool ( or beaches ) we definitely were looking forward to enjoying sauna and jacuzzi as well as indoor pool .
We would have chosen another resort should we have known.

2 bedroom villa was spacious. Cannot comment on pools or grounds as we visited off season. Breakfast plentiful and delicious.
Kitcen not very well supplied for cooking meals , but we managed. The glass wall in one of the showers was not connected in any way to the tub, so the bathroom ended up totally flooded; housekeeping did not replace the towels we soaked from mopping it up.

The location is perfect, but for a five star resort unfortunately it falls short especially in the properties. We stayed in a two bedroom Town House which on arrival looked fantastic, but soon noticed the poor condition internally. The living room had several loose floor tiles large chunks of plaster missing from walls and the skirting boards in an awful condition. The handrails for the stairs was a worry though they had definitely been coming away from the wall at some point and silicon had been used to try and hold the rail in place which wasn't working and clearly this is something they should address for safety purposes.
Jacuzzi in each bathroom didn't work shower fixings broken or missing in each bathroom.
Main bedroom balcony patio door lock was broken and the outside light didn't work.

This resort has great bones. It has the potential to be great and, I think, was once, not long ago.
It’s let down by the condition of the rooms/apartments.
The location is good, it’s possible to walk to a few restaurants and Carvoeiro is within striking distance.
Our apartment was a good size, but just needed some maintenance and updating.
The dishwasher didn’t wash dishes properly. The rail on the balcony was warped, “splintery” and needed painting/staining. The fittings in the bathroom were, in some cases, missing or broken.
The mats in the gym are worn thin, the floor of the gym is stained and damaged.
The TV service was good in terms of choice of channel, signal was patchy though and could benefit from providing access to Netflix, Prime etc.
Would I go back? Yes, right after a renovation.

Great staff and the main pool was the main attraction. We were a group of 20 people staying in a mix of 2 bed apartments. All the rooms were good, clean and had everything you needed. We didnt need to fight for loungera in the morning but most people were quite quick to place towels.

Some of the pool area had tiles that could do we replacing and some of the bridges needed attention.
The Cool Bar by the pool was great for drinks, ice creams etc. The breakfast was always good, attentive staff. They offered various eggs too but no sign to say that so found out by seeing other peoples food. The nearby town of Carvoiero was great to visit too. Easy to get around in cabs and Ubers.

This was an amazing trip for us! We were a family of 18 staying in multiple apartments over the resort. The pool, the townhouses and apartments, the service. All was amazing! We can not fault it. We went with elderly family members at 70 years and old and the youngest was 7!

Disappointing Stay – Far from 5-Star Standards

Our stay at Monte Santo Resort started well but quickly turned into a series of frustrations. Upon arrival at our 3-bedroom villa, we found an external door that was unable to be locked and none of the phones working. Reporting these issues to reception was futile, as the phones were apparently on back-order – a claim I found hard to believe.

The pool area was another disappointment. Despite a policy against reserving sunbeds with towels, this was ignored, making it impossible to find a sunbed during peak hours unless you joined in the same practice.

The villa had significant maintenance issues. Two bathrooms had baths that wouldn’t drain, and the third lacked a plug entirely. Maintenance eventually fixed the drains, explaining parts were missing – a baffling oversight. The worst issue came two days before checkout when a plumbing leak caused the downstairs bathroom ceiling to collapse, leaving two bathrooms unusable. Despite reporting this early, the response was slow, and a villa change was only offered late in the day, which was impractical as we were attending a wedding.

Other issues, like loose bannisters, added to the disappointment. Overall, Monte Santo Resort fails to meet 5-star expectations. Poor maintenance, lack of attention to detail, and inadequate handling of issues made this a stay we wouldn’t recommend or repeat.

Unfortunately we had a number of maintenance issues , lots of broken things in the 2 bed townhouse air conditioning after a number of attempts could not be fixed , door was Broken , button to flush toilet and more they definitely need to be maintained better . Staff are great it’s a lovely resort but I can’t say it’s 5 star due to those issues I would say 4 stars and unfortunately won’t return .

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel in Portugal. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and especially great with the kids, which made a huge difference for us.

We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The space was clean, well-equipped, and perfect for our family.

The breakfast offered a great selection each morning – something for everyone – and really set us up for the day. But honestly, the highlight for the kids was the pool area. They didn’t want to leave! It was safe, fun, and a big hit for the whole family. Could do with a small amount of upkeep in this area with the decking but this didn’t hinder or bother us in anyway.

All in all, a fantastic experience and we would definitely return. Highly recommend for families looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway.

We loved it at Montesanto, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, we were there to celebrate my husband 50th birthday and they surprised him with a bottle of wine and cake.
The facilities are very accessible for someone with difficulty with mobility for example, lift to the restaurant and pool and walkable paths around the property. We are definitely coming back!

Stayed mid-October. Fantastic resort, staff super friendly and attentive. We celebrated a couple of birthdays and received cakes and sparkling wines from the resort. Buffet breakfast was excellent. The resort was kept spotless and rooms cleaned each day. The location was great, near the beach, supermarkets, town and some great restaurants.
Only thing I’d say could be improved upon is the heating of the indoor pool could be slightly warmer.

Fantastic place, couldnt fault how nice the rooms are and hotel.

Onky downsides were
1. Location - it is on the outskirt of the town which means if you don't have a car you're talking 20-30 minutes of walking into town which is made hard since it is downhill and on the way back it is uphill

2. Barely any staff was knowledgeable in English which made it hard to order food/drinks

3. Kids - I love kids but there were a lot of families with kids and couples with kids which means a lot of noise

4. Not the best options for gluten free for breakfast. They have bread which isn't nice, cereals and croissant/madeleines (if they remembered to take them out of the freezer). No separate toaster either

Otherwise can not fault the hotel. We were a couple with no kids and we went in September to avoid kids.

If you have a family then great place as they have a kids playground and a small kids pool.

On the first night of arrival we informed reception at 8pm there was a problem with ants in one of the bedrooms when we were leaving to go out for dinner, on our return at 12am nothing had being done about same only for the ants to have completely covered the beds, it took over 3 hours to get the matter resolved and moved to another room/villa. I note from reviewing previous comments another traveller had a similar problem in July 2023. Breakfast was poor and limited chose for what you would expect from a 5 star resort. Staff appeared to be indifferent to customers needs

This is a nice property that is convenient for families that want an apartment and kitchen but some of the hotel facilities issue we had was with the check-in team. They were not helpful at all and even though there were properties available as it was not fully occupied we had to wait until 4 o’clock to get our room on our first day even though we arrived at 11 am we were offered anywhere to change which was not ideal with children after a flight. Breakfast staff are friendly. Housekeeping was a bit hidden miss sometimes shower gel and towels would be replaced and sometimes not. We had an issue with our dryer, which was the only option to dry clothes after they had been washed. We did report this but it was not fixed.

The breakfast was really good with lots of options such as fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals and coffee. The gym was good however it only opened at 9am which wasn't convenient if wanting to do exercise in the morning before breakfast as breakfast buffet closed at 10am. The room (luxury suite) has a big balcony with a sun bed and umbrella, and table for eating.

The living room has a complete kitchen and a sofa, TV area.

The bedroom has a wonderful bed, strong Internet, another TV and two lovely bathrooms.

The breakfast is amazing, as was the buffet dinner, and the pool really good size with plenty of seating.

The only negatives I'd say are
Only one free water despite staying four nights
An excessively high charge for tea in the room!!!

The staff is nice and polite but did not address all of our complaints, such as the broken shower. The air conditioning was insufficient and there were ants in our unit first floor. The townhouse was clean, spacious, and well-equipped, but the location of the resort is not really conducive to walking into town or to the beach. Overall we give it 2.5- 3 stars. Of all the drawbacks, the ants were the most offensive issue. Otherwise it was a lot of room for the price and would have been very comfortable if the air conditioning worked well.

The apartment itself was very nice and comfortable with nice terrace and full kitchen. The real let down was the resort facilities. The pool and steam/sauna area was not clean and overcrowded with 30 unsupervised children running and jumping into the indoor pool and entering steam/sauna rooms. The floors in the indoor pool area were moldy and slippery. The resort even charges guests for clean beach/pool towels if you want them changed. No business center. Definitely not a five star resort. Would not return due to the facilities.

Had a great stay with a beautiful spacious accommodation and large balcony in ‘romantic suite’. Great service, staff were really helpful and provided a lot of information. Breakfast was really good. Gym and additional amenities were not quite on par with rest of the resort but enjoyed our massage at the spa however a little pricey.

The best example I could use of how attentive and caring the staff is, is that a group member of our trip had her birthday on the trip. Without us having to ask, remind or notify the manager send over a beautiful (large) cake with candles and flowers and a complimentary hand written card wishing her the best and lovely birthday. The time we went in was off season - as such there was less to do but nonetheless the peace and quiet served us well on our vacation. Really recommend this stay - but would also suggest traveling by car as the distances can get quite large if you wish t visit other regions of Algarve. The public system is not that accessible or great.

We have stayed at Monte Santo many times sine 2013, but obviously had a long gap over the last 2 years due to the pandemic. Although the resort still remains lovely and overall an attractive place to stay, we have definitlery noticed a gradual decline in maintenence both with the apartments and the grounds. The apartmnets are begining to look tired particularly the kitchens, internal walls need painting, the grass isnt cut regulary anymore and there are weeds in gutters and in pavements, making the place look scruffy compared to how it used to be, rather immnaculate. The complex is in decline and has seen its better years. Maid service is no longer daily. Its still lovely overall and we would go again due to familiarality as we have been over 10 times, but its definitrly no longer 5 star in our opinion, but a solid 4 star.

Accommodation very good, but an upgrade of some of the facilities in the apartment would make it excellent. A car is useful as located out of the town.

Good site for a family stay

We recently stayed at Monte Santo for 10 days during September.

The apartment was nicely decorated, spacious and well equipped. Which was perfect for us as we were travelling with two hound children.

The Monte Santo grounds and beautiful and the pool is a great spacious area to relax.

Service from the bar and restaurant were reasonable. The bar was very expensive, Staff were friendly but service was slow despite there being a limited number of guests during our stay.

The food in the restaurant was okay, Not mind blowing and the experience didn’t reflect the price. There are many better restaurants within a 20 minute walk of Monte Santo in Carvoeiro.

Excellent family holiday at exceptional resort.

This resort is beautiful whether for a family or just a couple. Our family of 6 adults and 4 children had 3 x 2 bedroom luxury townhouses and they had everything in them for a relaxing holiday. There was loads of cupboard space and the cleaners came in every day and replaced all the towels and even left a dishwasher tablet. The grounds are immaculate and we all made use of the indoor pool but only the children were brave enough to venture into the outdoor pools which were very cold in February. The resort is ideally placed for visiting all the local beaches and there are many good restaurants. We will certainly hope to return.

The suite was nice, had a washroom and a bathroom so it helped getting ready in the mornings.
The porch door would not lock and even after multiple discussions with the front desk, nothing was done about it.
Even if the chance of thievery is low, it's a matter of safety and unfortunately, we were disappointed.
Nevertheless, the resort was a nice place overall, good breakfast.

Excellent apartment - spacious with every extra you could need. It is slightly on outskirts of town - easy walk downhill but preferred to get a taxi back up, particularly in evening. Some good restaurants within 10/15 mins walking but you need to seek them out, the same with the small supermarkets. Car is needed to get to two big supermarkets on Lagoa road. Used restaurant once for breakfast and it as very nice but slightly on pricey side.

A lot of thought has gone into this property. Nicely laid out, spacious, kitchen is fully equipped. It would be nice if they put a mirror in at least one of the bedrooms by the dresser so that you can sit down and do your hair/make instead of the bathroom. The house was very good and had top end quality furnishings, ie granite worksufaces and nice furniture, except....for the beds. For a 5* property they really were awful. I didn't get a decent nights sleep. I could feel the springs, the mattresses were well worn and dipped in places. If they can't change them all, then at least put good mattress toppers on to save peoples backs.
We paid a lot of money for this holiday and the other downside was the cleaning. For 5* the bedding should have been changed daily. On day 5 I called reception and asked how often the beds should be changed. I was told every day to which I told them I still had the same bed sheets and pillow cases. I asked for the manager to call me and I am still waiting for that call, which is disappointing. They sent a new team in to clean our townhouse and I saw a difference, the new team mopped the floors every day and wiped surfaces and changed the beds. I should have been refunded for the days of non-cleaning and an apology but I didn't even get a call back let alone a discussion. The last thing I wanted was to have arguments on a holiday that we had paid a lot of money on so they can have this review instead.

We loved the apartment. It was in an ideal position close to the pool on the ground floor opening on to the grass so the children could easily go out and play. The facilities were good, lovely pool, lots of space for sun beds, great for the kids. Access to the tennis courts was easy and we played a few times while there. The only thing I found disappointing was the breakfast - the selection was poor for a 5 star resort with no freshly cooked options available and most of what was on offer was cold before it hit your plate. I’m glad we only paid for that once and didn’t pay extra to have the breakfast included.

The facilities were great, but could do with a sweep around of old leaves etc. The awesome pool deck has the same spilt drinks from days ago visible and could also use a more frequent clean. In saying that, I am knit picking here... I lkved our stay and we are going back next year!

This was our second time to stay at monte santo and it was just as amazing as our first visit. It is everything you would expect from a five star property- clean, friendly staff,suites are equipped with everything you need and are so comfortable and spacious. We have two young children and monte santo was ideal- lots of space to run around,playground was great and they loved the kuddi pool. Quite simply- this property is luxury and we will be back!

Very well established gardens and pool areas, not at all tired or overcrowded, restaurant was ok but there is so much choice within a few minutes walk or short taxi ride away why use it other than maybe for breakfast? The walk from town to this facility is quite steep but we enjoyed it but some might struggle

Great base for a winter Algarve holiday.

Comfortable, stylish hotel, gave us a large townhouse for our stay. Quite empty out of season, which was great for us. Outdoor pools too cold to use, but indoor pool was great. Beautiful weather for the whole week made exploring the Algarve a joy!

This was our second stay at Monte Santo resort, and we highly recommend it

All rooms include a full kitchen, and therefore this reduces the need to eat out all the time. All of the kitchen equipment and utensils are supplied in perfect working order and cleanliness. The only items not supplies are washing-up liquid and/or dishwasher tablets or dish clothes.

The apartment rooms are huge and include a lovely lounge area, and balcony/patio.

Second visit for family of 4

We stayed here in 2016 and were blown away by the attentiveness of the staff and the standard of the apartment and resort, resulting in us visiting again August 2018. This time however we still enjoyed our stay but did not find the staff any where near as helpful and parts of the apartment could have done with a lick of paint/upgrade as the resort is listed as 5 star. The shuttle bus service the resort provides is useful if you have chosen not to hire a car, however on one occasion reception simply forgot to check the bookings and never picked us up. The hotel did provide a kids club, we chose not to use it but other people seemed happy with it and there was a bird show for 30 minutes one afternoon and a reptile show which the kids seemed to enjoy.

NOT a 5 star resort in any way!

This is not a 5 star resort and is terrible value for money! Facilities were relatively poor, the spa area was under repair / construction and the parts that were open were clearly in need of modernization. The pool area was too small and way too busy. The staff at reception were incredibly slow and did not acknowledge people waiting. The tea and coffee in the room was included as part of the mini bar at a couple of Euros per tea bag!!! The hotel itself is too far away from the town center.
