Stepping back in a time of opulence

From the time I entered - just WOW. I loved my room and the decor.
I loved everything about the place it was like stepping back in a time of opulence. My little piece of paradise and tranquility. The room was very quiet, seemingly far from the hustle and bustle of busy Melbourne.

Very convenient location. Although you can open the windows, which I usually like instead of sealed air-conditioned places, it was too noisy on the street to sleep with them open. Otherwise a very good room, with excellent facilities.

Nice stay!

Really enjoyed our stay. Loved the cosy lounge area next to the reception. The only negative things for us was the carpet stains near the bathroom & the room could have been cleaned a little better as the table had sticky drink marks. Also the shower leaked. Would we stay here again? Yes!

Great location, great space

We stayed in room 801. We thought it might be noisy above Flinders Lane but it was very quiet. The room was lovely and we had a lounge area to relax in. Central to everything, shopping, Footy and NGV. Will stay again in the future.

We stayed at the Sebel (I think it was the Grand Mercure then) in 2003. It was the reason we wanted to stay there again. Every staff member we encountered, without exception, was most helpful ranging from the reception staff to the cleaners.
The hotel has a classy appearance and feel to it and we will be choosing it again when next in Melbourne which we hope won’t be in another 15 years.

Central and spacious

A boutique hotel literally in the centre of Melbourne with huge suites with balconies and sumptuous furnishings. So quiet you’d think you were in ther countryside! Only downer is no service at all. You have to make the bed and take out the trash yourself. This can be a positive in that you don’t need to rush out so the maid can do your room! We will definitely use The Sebel as a Melbourne base from now on. We walked to restaurants, galleries, shopping and theatre.

Our room was an apartment with a bedroom, sitting area and kitchen. Everything was very nice. There is no restaurant, but there are many options very nearby. It is very close to the center of the Central Business District.

Excellent Apartments in the Heart of Melbourne CBD

Very happy with the standard of accommodation at The Sebel, it made our stay very pleasant.

We had an executive suite and it was well equipped, very spacious and comfortable.

Staff were all very helpful and check-in/check-out process was easy.

We would stay in The Sebel again if returning to Melbourne, highly recommended.

Surprisingly good

I was worried about noise staying in a Hotel in Flinders Lane so close and on top of Flinders Street Station refurbishment. However those concerns disappeared once inside. The morning traffic also did not disturb.
We stayed in Room 103 fabulous. The only thing that was a bit old and tired was the pull out be and instead of sliding glass petitions suggest solid doors to enhance privacy.

Old world charm!

The Sebel Melbourne is a very special place. I stayed in the Flinders Suite, and it was absolutely lovely. I'm disabled, so I was a little more needy. Nothing was too much trouble! The staff went out of their way to assist me, and make my stay very comfortable. Even my guests commented on how special the staff had made them feel too. I'm booked to stay with them again during my next trip to Melbourne.

Located in the Melbourne downtown grid, the Sebel was almost perfect. We walked everywhere and were near all manner of restaurants, shopping and sights. The hotel has a great espresso machine and cold water in the lobby. It also has a free laundry room. We had a room rather than a suite (it was part of a larger suite with a locked door), which was less expensive and worked well. Our room was very quiet -- ask for a room/suite on the inside courtyard. The bed was comfortable. My only criticism is that the room, especially the bathroom, was very dark. I could barely see myself in the bathroom mirror! Fortunately, I wasn't trying to put on makeup.

Great location and comfortable rooms.

Stayed here for four nights, staff were lovely at check in and very quick.
The room was amazing on first glance, absolutely huge. Only downsides were the tv in bedroom missing half the channels (9 + its derivatives and ABC) and no bottled water.
Bathroom was bigger than most other hotel rooms! Lovely decor and colours. Plenty of space to entertain and cook up any food. Will be back!

Construction noise ruined my stay

The Sebel has excellent facilities, with spacious, well-equipped apartments and friendly helpful staff. But at present there is constant construction noise throughout the night on the nearby re-routing of tramlines, which makes sleep almost impossible. This is obviously beyond the control of the hotel management but perhaps they should be lobbying the city authorities about the impact on their guests, installing double glazing - or at least handing out very effective ear plugs at check-in! If you do go, ask for a high floor and take ear plugs and sleeping tablets!

Don't Trust Star Ratings

The room was like a dungeon. It totally needs a makeover. Long overdue. The bedding was third world. The pillows were fit for the tip flat old and all of them still holding previous occupants hair under the pillow cases. Spare blanket had crusty white stuff on it. If we hadn't prepaid we would have left. 4 star plus.... I don't think so. You need to get out more. We hotel stay around 8 times a year. This was the worst ever.

we stayed at the Seble during the AO of tennis. the building is full of charm and the room was actually an impressive apartment, exquisitely renovated, clean, new and very quiet. we finally found our \"home way from home\" while in Melbourne!!!!

Nice & convenient despite the Accor sales pitch.

Overall a nice, convenient place.
However did not appreciate being contacted on room phone and encouraged to attend a 90min sales pitch after being there for only 3 hours of our holiday.
We said 'no thanks' but still the hard sell with offers of future booking discounts did not stop.
Reception staff were friendly.

Clean, nice, fully equipped. Even though the staff says the apartments are \"self contained\" and therefore does not get daily service, if I had my rathers, I would like daily service. We started in a room with no kitchenette, therefore I know daily service is offered.

Staff extremely helpful. We dropped off our luggage then turned in a car. An hour later our room was ready and luggage was delivered to our room! The toom service offered by a partnered restaurant was quick, easy AND excellent tasting for breakfast. The eggs Benedict was as good as any I've ever had.

The room was a small apartment, which had a little kitchenette which was very handy. It was spacious and comfortable, quiet and you could open your balcony door if you wished. Walking distance and close to major spots in Melbourne, trams nearby if required. As it was an apartment, it was only cleaned every few days, but you only had to ask for that to happen so not a problem either way. Most people would only stay a few days anyway.

What a fantastic place! Huge room, with a kitchen/dining area, separate sitting room, massive king-size bed and spacious bathroom. And all that right in the heart of the city, walking distance from everything. And at a very decent price!

No housekeeping for the price it charges!

Good location and spacious room, but very disappointed about its housekeeping services as I didn't get any housekeeping including garbage disposal during my three night stay! Also no change of towels and linens and I have to pay $10 for a new set of towels! For the price it charges it is a negative surprise. Staff service is only ok as only one person seemed to be around the front desk most of the time. For thisprice I would not recommend this hotel.

Beautifully presented apartment close to CBD.

Four women shared the apartment. We coped with only the one bathroom mainly because of the size of the bathroom... HUGE, with a lovely deep bath and two bench spaces!! The apartment was enormous so we were able to spread out, plenty of space for all the shopping bags!!!!
The only disappointment, and we knew this before we went, was no daily room cleaning. We didn't mind this, however fresh towels would have been appreciated. We did ask for these on the second day and received 4 hand towels instead!!!!

Happy to stay there again.

We stayed at the Sebel Melbourne for a family wedding. The staff were very helpful and friendly and attended to our requests promptly. Our stay could have been very uncomfortable due to Melbourne turning on it's spectacularly hot weather, however the air conditioning was up to the job and as a result we were able to sleep comfortably each night and get some welcome relief. The room was spacious, well appointed and came with everything that we needed for our stay.

Organised an early check in (11am), arrived at 11:30 To be told to come back at 2pm. A little frustrated as we were tired and wanted to settle in we caught transport to other side of city and then 30 minutes later told to come back room was ready. We still think this was not the room we requested as we wanted a city view . We were looking directly into another building. On check out we were not asked how our stay was. Would have like to shared the news that we got engaged that night. We were then told we had to get our own car as well as load it up with our luggage as know one could drive a manual, so much for valet service. Our experience was not ful filled.

Old world charm which had a warmth that was lovely. Friendly staff. A bit of a shock that the valet parking wasn't included in the price & cost another $35 for one night! The room was really nice & well appointed. The bathroom facilities were very stylish but the lighting wasn't the best for applying makeup & the king size bed was too firm for my liking.
