The room was quiet and fairly well soundproofed, and the bedroom space itself was comfortable.

However, there were several maintenance issues. The shower was very small and the shower head was broken, constantly slipping down the rail. It also looked like someone had lodged paper into it as a temporary fix. The shower drain also did not drain properly and water began bringing up dirt and hair that appeared to be from previous guests, which was quite unpleasant.

Check-in was also disappointing. I arrived around 2:45pm and was told my room was not ready yet and that I would be contacted once it became available. Unfortunately I never received any call, message or email.

After 4:30pm I called the hotel myself and was told they had been trying to contact me. I had been closely watching my phone the entire time and there were no missed calls or messages, which made the situation feel poorly handled

Seemed to be poor management. Requests for room to be serviced ignored (twice). Restaurants problems.
A wine delivered from a bottle filled up with water (quickly apologized). Food very disappointing.
Only reliable service from the concierge - helpful and effective (ONLY ones used by the end). Perhaps the worst high level hotel experienced in last 20nyears. Sad.

My place to stay in Melbourne

I always stay here whenever I am in Melbourne. A great quality hotel in a really good location. Rooms are great and the breakfast buffet is of high quality. Having said that, having one person on reception on a Friday evening which is a key check in time meant a longer than acceptable wait for a 5 star property of this calibre. The hotel was extra busy due to the football finals… the breakfast staff struggled a little with keeping the food options stocked.
While disappointing neither of these would stop me from staying there again.

Too many hidden charges. Far too many. MOST expensive hotel I have ever stayed in with bare services. NOT a luxury hotel at all.
Way overpriced for an average hotel room. Many details overlooked very poorly - fridge not turned on. No air-conditioning turned on. Mini bar barely stocked.
Will never stay here again despite the amazing staff.
Feel financially violated at best.
DO NOT recommend at all unless you like throwing away hard earned money.

Disappointing first impression

Was excited to stay at this hotel but the service regarding check in was extremely disappointing!
Staff at check in had zero personality and we’re not understanding at all.
Was not able to check in until an hour after the actual check in time of 3 pm as I kept getting told the room was still being cleaned from when I first asked about 2.30.
There was no action taken to hurry up the process until I got very annoyed.
Luckily, the room was very clean.

Nice hotel. Good bed and the room was clean and well maintained. Our booking included breakfast and parking. I spoke to the hotel a couple of weeks before our stay to organise an early check in and find out about the parking. Early check in could not be guaranteed and we were informed that entry to parking was at rear of the hotel. This information was incorrect and we ended up in the wrong carpark and had to move the car and pay $17 as a result. Once I had the correct parking ticket, the hotel validated it but it didn’t work. This cost a further $30 to exit the carpark. Other areas of concern- pool and spa did not appear clean. There was a strange smell like the chemical balance/chlorine was not right.
Breakfast offered a good variety but none of the “hot food” was in fact hot. Very disappointing and we ended up cutting breakfast short and found a cafe outside the hotel for brunch.

Overall, this stay was quite expensive and very disappointing. I would not stay here again as there are plenty of better options in the city and Southbank/Crown Casino precinct.

But you get a terrible nights sleep because the bedding / duvet is way too hot
Disappointing
Maybe the manager responsible for the bedding should try sleeping with the duvet they provide - very hot - so we both came away exhausted - not exactly what we had planned !!

We were quite disappointed with our experience at Alluvial. Our daughter has allergies, and although the service staff was kind and provided the information we needed, the timing of the meals was not ideal. We ordered standard menu items, including our daughter’s meal, and at that point there were only three other groups in the restaurant, with two more arriving after us.

However, all of their meals were served before ours. It took around 40 minutes for my wife’s and my meals to arrive, and an additional 10 minutes for our daughter’s. In total, there were just six groups dining. We also overheard another guest expressing concerns about delays with their room service.

For a five-star hotel, we had hoped for a smoother dining experience

Online service didnt work and phoned reception - they had no idea how to take an order. Again took a while to place order. We asked for a specific time and was still half an hour late. Sorry but not worth the money i paid. Checkin to the room delayed and nothing for it at all, considering i have 2 kids, something little would have been nice for waiting (not just tea and coffee). Pool so run down, cold and damp. Not 5 stars in my opinion, also to add rooms run down and bathroom had hair in it. So sad j paid $445 for a terrible experience.

I was very disappointed about how the receptionist treated me when I booked via Expedia. She kept saying the word “unfortunately”. It was even worse because I was extending my stay and she treated me like if I was a wet dog in a non pet friendly hotel.
The breakfast is very meh and the hotel is a little on the run down side. It’s just good location. Phillip the bellboy was the nicest ever and he made my stay. Thanks Phil!

Rough stay at usually a great hotel. Had no one at valet and front desk was very little help at checkin. Overnight our refrigerator must have died, as all the food we bought at a festival was ruined in the morning and the front desk again did nothing but take my name and number with the promise of a call from a manager, which still has not occurred. In fact, the front desk was more interested in charging the $80 for parking than the $150 in ruined food. And for $80 valet it shouldn’t take 20 minutes to park and 20 to retrieve your car.

Usually this is a great hotel and stay often for work, but it was not good for a night away with my wife.

The place was comfortable enough as you would expect, however anlot cam be said for the house keeping or lack of it. Also, getting a room below the gym, not a great idea, as people are dropping weights. We asked to move to another room, which they were happy with, however the room they moved us to was a much smaller room, although we were told it was the same category. Afer making a fuss, were we moved to a larger room. Just a lot of unnecessary drama.

At checkin, the person was rude; asked for two room keys and was told only one key & there was one in the room to run the lights; went to room, there wasn’t a key in room so went back to ask for one;
Had breakfast in hotel- first day, person before me got a tour of options, for me they couldn’t get tea order correct; second morning- I was seated on one table, went to get food and they had sat another family at my table & also got the tea order wrong.

Amazing foyer view but rooms could updating

The foyer of the hotel is done amazingly and has great views for breakfast or drinks. The staff are very friendly and the location is central with easy access to most parts of the CBD. Breakfast and drinks are pretty good and the rooms are comfortable as well. The bathrooms are a bit dated and could use an upgrade as the showers suffered from low pressure, took a while to heat up, and toilets were a bit small. Gym is a bit small for the amount of people in the hotel (was fine during winter, but imagine it gets packed during summer). Pool wasn't heated for the first part of my stay and shut down for maintenance for the second half without any advance notice which was a bit annoying. Room could also do with some USB ports in the sockets and a clock/alarm of some sort. Overall, I think the view in the foyer is amazing, but the quality of the actual room and other amenities could use upgrading.

The administration seems slow. The safe was not working in my room, the front desk kept saying would send maintenance for it. But it was never repaired and replaced. At the end, they would say oh, most safes in this hotel were not working, you can put important in their safe. Why din't they say it at the beginning. The facility is also old.

Central location with most attractions in walking distance. The fre tram service around the Central Business District is nearby and runs frequently. For sports fans, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Rod Laver Arena are also nearby.

Excellent breakfast but would recommend dining elsewhere for lunch or dinner as the menu is a bit limited and was not to my taste.
