The Alto Hotel is not worth staying at. The air conditioning did not work in our bedrooms. There was dirt buildup in the corners of the bathroom floor. The staff were not very friendly and seemed extremely stressed. I did not get my security deposit back!

Hotel was 4 star rated. However the property is quite old. Good location, can walk everywhere and close to station. Unfortunatey we left our bags in \"secure storage\". When we came back in the afternoon one of our bags had been opened and valuuable item stolen. Manager said he spoke to staff and they knew nothing about it. I would not recommend staying here. Thus soured our experience with this hotel. We have never had thus happen before over many hotel stays in Aus or overseas.

Didn’t realise you needed to put up a sign on the door saying you wanted your room serviced. I’m familiar with putting up a Do Not Disturb sign but didn’t expect a Service Please sign to be needed.
There were 3 air conditioning units and they were temperamental. Sometimes they did and didn’t work.
Good kitchen facilities but unfortunately the pan was scratched up beyond safe to use.
Location was excellent. Very close to trams and although onsite parking was small, I liked that it was locked and onsite.

The rooms are just ok, cheaply renovated. The older gentleman that checked me in on Christmas day lacked any customer service etiquette. No cooked breakfast available, instead they direct you to a burger restaurant! No other on site services available, dont be fooled by \"gym close by\" etc. Dont expect anything more than a basic room and dont pay anything more than $200/night. You can do a lot better in Melbourne CBD.

The rooms are not ready for us even though check in was 2pm and we went back at nearly 3pm. The staff was still adding the finishing touches to the 2 of the 3 rooms we booked. We requested for baby cot in 1 of the rooms and the staff took a long time to figure how to set up. The cot lacked mattress in the end. The 3 rooms all looked dated. They were also not cleaned well. One of us sneezed continuously upon entering one of the rooms. There were biscuit crumbs on some dining chairs. At least 1 sofa chairs was already damaged when we checked in and not removed. The location was convenient.

The faucet had broken off from the sink, so it wobbled and you couldn't turn on/off the faucet without two hands, and it never pointed where it was supposed to.

The ceiling in the bathroom was covered in mold.

There were two sets of roller blinds, but the outer one was just ... missing the actual fabric blind part.

This was fine for a few nights, but it's far more budget hotel than it would have seemed.

The room was basic but ok. It was located on the front and the noise from the passing trams was pretty constant so did not get the best sleep each night.
The kitchen was old and the electric hob had seen better days and the drinking cups and glasses were not prperly cleaned. The Hotel was close to Marvel Stadium which is why we selected it.

The hotel looks a bit rundown and not very clean at all. The dust on the floor beside our bed was disgusting. We opened the bottle water in our room and it tasted disgusting. Bathroom could have been given a deep clean, cup had toothpaste residue from previous guests, blood

The place is quiet and clean. I love the extras at the dining room and bathroom condiments. Close to trams, shops. The kitchen could be improvised with dishcloth or scourer, better cooking equipment and decent knife. The location is ideal for public transportation and shops.

Ideal Place to stay.

Was a great stay here, clean, friendly staff and very central to transport, eateries and other amenities.
I enjoyed it as it was a short walk to the Southern Cross Station, the ability to jump on a tram and move around the city was also a bonus.
Highly recommend staying here!

However there was noise from the trams outside and elevator next to the room was noisy.
Was a little disturbed by lights flashing in the room during the night.
At checkout, there was no one at the reception desk and I didn't initially find the express checkout box to place the room key.
Have stayed here previously and would consider staying again.

A great location with easy access to trams and trains. The rooms are very quiet, however, they require some basic maintenance. Our toilet roll holder was loose and unstable and the bathroom door paint was flaking off.

Convenient location & quiet

Stayed for 2 nights in queen studio, convenient location next to tram stop, southern cross station, skybus terminal, plenty of cafes & restaurants. Room was spacious, clean, soundproof. Complimentary tea/coffee machine in reception lounge is a great bonus. Hotel staff were friendly.

This hotel is in a very good location near restaurants and shopping centers. The room was nice. Breakfast is a bit of a problem. It is a cooked breakfast with a menu of 6-7 choices. The breakfast area is locked until 2 women come at 7-7:15 and have to set up 4 -5 tables, take your order and cook it. It’s okay if you are not in a hurry. They also don’t give to go boxes for early tour pick ups before 7 am!! The front reception is not there 11 pm-7 am. They have pay washing machine and dryer. Probably wouldn’t stay there again if visiting Melbourne.

We stayed in the superior 2 bedroom apartment. The bedrooms are upstairs and the sitting room downstairs which is a perfect setup for a group or family. Bathroom was well stocked and the room was clean. The complimentary coffee downstairs was also very good

Not what I expected.

Arrived early so left our bags at hotel as room not yet ready. When we came back informed room will be ready in 15 and reception will get us. Past 15 and no advice or appeared we were forgotten to be informed.
In room, aircon remote wont turn on. No signage whats reception # and reception not answering so had to go down to have remote fixed. Apparently remote is very old so have to press very hard to get it to turn on. Receptionist might be new (?), she doesn’t know what her reception # for the room.
Find it hard to sleep on first night even though bed is comfy.I could hear noise from outside, men talking.
The morning after arriving back at hotel after having lunch, both my key cards already cancelled out. So I had to go down again at reception to have it activated. They shld have known Im staying more than a day in their system. A lot of inconvenience.
On plus side, the area is convenient for transport, cafes and restaurants. All within walkable distance.

Location was fantastic but the night time felt alittle rough for a family with kids. The room had so much character with two levels and charming little balconies. It really is a cool hotel but definately could use some upgrades. Staff were wonderful.

Use as last resort, but close to Southern Cross st

Bed was extremely uncomfortable, booked through an app and they wanted $100 at the desk as a security deposit even though they already had my credit card, toilet roll holder fell off the wall, flipped over the sheets on the bed only to find dirty prints which could only be described as dirt, fully exposed plaster as in the photos, extremely outdated television that wouldn't connect to anything and didn't have a view of what was on as a digital display. Kitchen was being apparently renovated but wasn't informed of this prior and I eat keto which now made it extremely difficult to go and find food. Even though our room was on the second floor our room faced onto a alleyway between two buildings and we had to listen to all of the drunk people throwing up, fighting and yelling all night. The reason I chose this hotel was because it was the closest to Southern Cross station and I am a person with a walking disability
