The location was excellent. The room was decent and kitchen was clean when this one older chap was on cleaning duty which means it wasn’t the staff but the messy people using the kitchen. The staff keeping the bathrooms were good. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. All to say, we would stay there again.

The staff were beautiful, there wasn't one person who wasn't friendly. We stayed in one of the private rooms and while small it worked for what we were doing. However, the bathroom always smelt and when I was doing a final check of the room, I checked under the bed for anything I might have missed and there was so much garbage under the bed that wasn't mine, it makes me concerned how much the room is properly cleaned in between people. Overall, it was a nice stay for the weekend if you're not the room for much more then sleep

Excellent location, and great price-service relation. The kitchen is outstanding and well provided, the bathrooms are always kept in great conditions. The rooms are reasonable in space, a little too hot on summer nights, and each bed has its own curtain and plug light for privacy and comfort. The staff is super friendly.

Definitely value for money but is not for anyone that’s looking for more than just a space to sleep. Oh, breakfast is rather disappointing, just cereal, milk, coffee & tea. I reckon you save $14 and get a warm sausage roll and coffee instead with that money.

Often stay here bc of central location, economy but this time there were no towels in room, chip scraps on the floor beside bed, no spare blankets and i was cold. Not a big deal and i will continue staying here but the housekeeping needs to be better. Reception easy, expedient & friendly.

Dorm bed for 4 . The room is small, a person stayed there kept coughing and sneezing the whole night . She took the rubbish bin next to her bed and the bin is full of tissue paper .

There is no health safety control screening or measure in the dorm . ppl just spread their virus . Terrified !

There is good and bad about this place from my experience. Overall it was pretty solid for the price. The beds were decent. The personal heater in the room and the window were appreciated. I also really liked the coffeehouse vibe they had going on downstairs. However, there were not nearly enough plugs in the room and the plugs that were available were not personal ones for each bed, so there were 4 of us rotating the plug use. It's not the worst thing, but it was a bit annoying. Also, the kitchen and fridges were always messy and the restroom never looked or smelled that great. The area around my bed also wasn't cleaned prior to my arrival. Additionally, I knew the location when I booked my stay, so I was expecting the typical CBD noise, however, what I wasn't expecting was all of the random noise that came from the building itself... there was lots of door slamming throughout the day and several days of early morning (6-7am) vacuuming(?).

The staff at the front desk were lovely & very helpful. YHA Melbourne Central is in a great part of Melb’s, a short walk to Southern Cross station. The room was not bad & had a good heater, but I was disappointed to find a yellow stain on the sheet on the lower bunk bed I slept in. The quilt inside the quilt cover was yellow stained & should be replaced. In the female bathroom on level 4 the bathroom lights above the mirror were not working which made the bathroom poorly lit. This is a safety issue & needs replacing. It is also disappointing that there is nothing in the room to hang up my clothing nor a table to put my mobile phone on.
I may stay there again but in a double room. YHA Melbourne Central needs to improve a few things.

Prefect location, clean and modern hostel.

The location is excellent, 5 mins walk to southern cross station, prefect for frequent regional travelling. Hostel is within free tram zone so easy to get the CBD by tram. Fairly clean and modern. Lift available to carry suitcases upstairs. Hard to fall asleep when the person moves on the top bunk bed and the whole bed moves. Better if the bed space can be more private. Overall experience is good and will stay again

I had a pretty good hostel experience. They had a decently priced breakfast available, and the included wifi was decent. The bathrooms were also decently clean. I would go back.
The only problem was that it was overpriced because of a certain pop star being in town when I stayed there.

Booked a double room at the YHA when I tried to find affordable accommodation during the Australian Open. I haven’t stayed in a YHA since the 1990s and I can’t remember why. It’s so easy. The location is fantastic - in the CBD a short walking distance to everything in the city and Southbank. The room & ensuite were clean and the bed comfortable. It is slclose by a lot of late night eateries and venues, and there are common areas for relaxing, there’s a bar and for an extra charge you can have breakfast. There is a communal kitchen. I would happily stay here again. So convenient for exploring Melbourne. Loved it.

Good place for a quick overnight stay, but given it's proximity to major rail lines was extremely noisy. If you're planning on sleeping before 2am, bring ear plugs. Otherwise, room was basic but clean, and bed was comfortable. Kitchen and common areas well equipped and staff very obliging. Easy access to public transport and less than 10 minutes walk to city centre. Food and essentials close by. Would stay again with ear plugs :-)

First off, the bathrooms are top notch clean. There seemed to have been a problem on my 3rd day there with one of the stalls being locked, but overall it was much, much cleaner than my last hostel. Second, the downstairs was nice and roomy with lots of tables. The staff is very friendly there and helpful as well. The only knock against it would be the wifi not being available anywhere except the first floor unless you pay for premium. On top of that, the free wifi is slow so if you are planning on working or uploading anything, I would probably not recommend it.

Regarding the comfort of the room, they are very spacey rooms which is nice. The only issue is the bed. The bunk beds are squeaky and can get quite noisy which is an issue when you are coming in late at night. In addition, either the mattress or the support is weak so my mattress would cave in. If you have back problems, this is probably not the hostel for you.

Overall, great hostel and highly recommended.

Only stayed overnight so can't tell much but was pleased that the whole place is generally quite clean and no bad smell (unlike some other hostels I have been to ).
The bed was comfortable with fresh and clean sheets. The mattress was a real mattress and not a six-inch foam. The pillow was fluffy and comfortable to rest my head on.
What I was really impressed with was the shower and toilet facilities: sparkling clean and not run down. Everything was new and modern.
The location is close to the CBD and handy to everything. The downside is the traffic and crowd noise as it is right on Flinders Street.
Overall, I am happy with the place. For the price, it was better than I expected.

Very noisy as it is in front of tram crossing street and train passing tunnel.
Staff was with cocky attitude when I asked some things.
Not enough baths for the quantity of hosts.
Internet is so bad, that reminded me dial up era (even paid internet was bad, according to friends that paid for it).
Stayed for couple of nights, and changed to another place in Queen St, and was totally different experience.
Saw a rat in lobby, close to kitchen.

I recommend to stay away

I checked in, and all 3 nights were deducted from my credit card. An hour later, after I saw my room, I asked to checkout the next day, and was told, I am welcome to, but all 3 nights would not be refunded. When I asked why, I was told it's because 'Expedia takes all the money'. I called Expedia, who were super helpful and tried to talk to the hotel to get the refund for the next two nights, but to no avail. They just refused. The room cost more than $120 AUD, was hot, claustrophobic, and super ugly.

At the end, they were willing to refund one night, but still not both. I left, and recommend for no one to have to go through this kind of an experience.

The guy behind the desk at 0530 on the morning of the 15th October was too busy making himself a hot drink to talk to me and we looked at each other in silence whilst his drink dispensed! \"Can't be bothered\" attitude prevailed until I left for the airport about 10 minutes later. Not a pleasant impression to leave a place with especially after a fabulous welcome from a very busy, unstressed petite lady with a French accent.

This was probably the most comfortable hostel I've ever stayed in. I really enjoyed that there was a 3-person rooming option and was lucky enough to get the non bunk bed in my room. That being said, the mattress itself wasn't the most comfortable. I did like the individual reading lights located next to each bed, but I think there could've been another outlet or two in the room, and the storage lockers beneath my bed weren't large enough to store a medium-sized suitcase.

Facilities were very clean and I liked the lobby/hangout area downstairs. Seating was comfortable and plenty of outlets available. Also, the location is incredibly conveniently located. I took SkyBus in from the Melbourne Airport and it's just a short walk down the street to the hostel. I booked this location primarily because it was also just a couple doors down from Bunyip Tours, who I booked some day trips through. Would definitely look at YHA again on future Australia trips.

Two nights at Melbourne Central YHA

Nice and clean shared bathrooms and toilets. No lockers in rooms. Rooms next to the big street noisy, so bring your ear plugs. No free luggage storage, you need to pay from it (automatic)! Free wifi available in common area, but not working too well. Easy to go to the city center with free tram and walking distance to airport shuttles (Leaving from Southern Cross Station).

Great place as an alternative to a hotel. 7/11 close by. Close to everything, especially the train and casino. Dicky elevator and stupid front door access but otherwise amentities are good bed was comfy. Lots of restaurants in close proximity and easy walk to the centre of the Cbd or to the DFO docklands
