Large clean room with comfortable beds. Only 3 electrical sockets available and all in use. Maybe provide an extention lead? Staff were generally helpful and friendly. Lovely area/setting. No parking issues and lovely garden though didn't get to sit outside much due to the rain. Restaurant needs some attention as food/cooking quality a bit hit and miss. However competitively priced. Would happily return though I might eat out more.

Beautiful looking property but RED flags appeared immediately upon arrival. Wifi was broken on first day. Hot tub is not hot. You have to pay extra for sauna. Have to leave a deposit for pool towel. Bed is uncomfortable. Extremely hard. First morning breakfast, automatic coffee machine was broken but they wouldn’t provide coffee using the $5k machine at the bar. Threaten to charge people who take an extra piece of fruit with Them when they leave breakfast buffet. These signs are disappointing. Never experienced this before at any hotel with this star rating.

Subject: Extremely Disappointing Experience

I recently stayed at [solar de Boaventura ] and unfortunately had a very negative experience
was overcharged for my stay, and despite my attempts to resolve the issue, it seems that the staff was more focused on finding ways to charge extra rather than addressing my concerns.

There was only one staff member, Sara, who appeared to be listening to my issues, but the overall lack of friendliness and support from the rest of the team was disheartening. I ended up leaving a day early and had to pay for another hotel because I simply couldn’t stay any longer.

Additionally, the lack of convenient transportation options, such as taxis or Uber, made it even more challenging. To top it off, there was no water provided in the room, which is a basic expectation.

I was promised that I would receive a refund for the extra charge, but I have yet to see any follow-up on that. Overall, this was a very bad experience, and I hope that my feedback will lead to improvements for future guests.

Very nice smaller hotel with good facilities. Pool and Jacuzzi are very nice. Sauna costs extra, which is not indicated at the time of the reservation, but worth it.

Room included an excellent continental breakfast and dinner was also very good. Would definitely recommend.

Really lovely staff (one woman in particular seemed committed to not only quality service but also to making real connections with her guests while juggling food service for dinner, check ins, guest requests and more at the same time).
Also, the BEST shower ever - fantasic rainfall shower head but with good water pressure and a full seal on the doors so you don't end up with a soggy bathroom floor.
The location is beautiful, so a stay would be worth it just for that.
Only complaints - the pillows were very flat and we only got two total for two people. And sounds traveled rather well between rooms (we were next to a family with a young child and could hear every time he was upset or excited).

Furnishing of hotel was beautiful and spotless. Had some great games on the pool table and pool was great for a swim. Bed was a disappointment (very noisy/ creaky and uncomfortable mattress that felt old), and breakfast had bananas that had gone completely black and bread that felt stale.

Comfortable place in residential area of village. Has the old feel but doesn't quite deliver complete charm. Decent value for budget stay. Nice gardens. Food in restaurant at dinner was at best fair, but not worth the price compared to what we had elsewhere. Breakfast modest. But, cost was 50 euros, so you have to factor that in as a budget accommodation.

We really enjoyed our stay. Food was excellent with a good breakfast (would have been good if it started from 7.30am rather than 8). Very clean and smart rooms and lots of lovely outdoor space to sit and relax in. Our initial room had a shower problem but we were quickly reaccommodated into a room with a sea view so very happy with outcome. Would definitely stay again.

Great hotel in a beautiful little town!

The hotel was much larger and more modern than we expected, especially for the price. We lucked out and got a room with a balcony overlooking a little garden and the sea. Room was good sized and modern, with a large bathroom. Bathroom was slightly outdated, but clean and functional with good water pressure. The hotel had several pleasant sitting areas, one with a fire, one with a tv, and pool table. They also had an interesting collection of Madeira wine and some antique weaving machines. Outside there's a nice place to sit in the garden, and inside there's a breakfast room and an atrium. Cafe/restaurant on sight. Free breakfast included in our room rate was decent. Overall, great find, we would stay again.

Quiet hotel, well appointed & away from the crowds

Set in a small village, with the church bells chiming every half an hour, this hotel is ideal for those wishing to get away from it all.
A 20 minute walk from a rocky beach, & surrounded by Levada & other walks, this location is great for the walkers amongst us.
The North of the island is generally cooler, wetter & greener (that's a bonus in my book). Thankfully, you're also away from the touristy hustle & bustle of the South of the island (Funchal etc.).
If you want to explore the island, hire yourself a car.
The hotel is a fabulous base to explore the island.

A great experience on Madeira's North coast

The hotel was easy to find, with views from our window down to the sea. The staff were warm and hospitable. We enjoyed the breakfasts and ate simple but tasty dinners in the hotel on two of our five nights in Madeira. Our only complaints were a leaky shower and a hard mattress on the bed.

Authentic Gem Tucked Away on North Side of Island.

Stayed for a week in November. Had the place to ourselves pretty much. If you're looking for a base to go hiking or just want to lay low reading etc. This might be the spot for you.

Good quality, quiet hotel with some reservations

Overall, the hotel offers a high standard of accommodation - good, large, clean and comfortable rooms, and good quality lounge areas. One problem with the lounge areas is that they are almost impossible to use after dark, as the lights are on a 5 minute timer, so by the time you have settled onto a couch and opened your book - the lights go out!! Also the room lights are quite dim - in fact they need replacing - so again reading became something of an issue.

The other real problem that I had was with the quality, and the price, of the meals in the restaurant. The menu is less than extensive and the prices are significantly higher than other restaurants in the area. The food quality is not particularly high either, especially when considering the price levels. The breakfast service was passable, but the scrambled eggs were usually cool and rubbery - and the lack of staff overseeing the buffet meant that the coffee and hot water flasks quite often ran out and they were not refilled for some time.

The hotel is located in a small village on the north coast- the village is still only accessible by the older roads, so expect a lengthy drive, via \"interesting\" roads to get anywhere. As with all of Madeira, there is a bus service, but you really do need a car to access this hotel. But as a complete change from Funchal, it is to be recommended as it is good to experience the real Madeira away from the crowds.

Quaintessential, picturesque village

Nice staff, decent room size, tidy and warm bath/shower. we enjoyed their signature dish of fish fillets cooked with bananas, tasty chips and salad - tasted organic and delicious. We drove through the narrow winding mountain roads- serene and picturesque. The weather was a bit chilly that evening and the radiators luke warm. Nice area if you love the solitude and ideal for trekking. We asked a couple of local residents for directions to Sola de Boaventura and they were very pleasant and helpful. It was a bit quiet - probably because it was off peak.

Lovely hotel on the north side of the island. It's the quieter side, if you're looking for a relaxing holiday. The rooms are in a modern annex next to the old house where the reception and restaurant are. Large room with large bathroom. Wifi was a little spotty, but generally ok. Really friendly staff who speak fluent English. The hotel is easy to find. If in a car drive to Boaventura and turn at the road that has a large black brick tower on the corner (only one road passes through Boaventura) and the hotel is about 100m down the road on the left.

Lo positivo: La habitación, de estilo clásico colonial, es amplia y ofrece vistas al mar. El alojamiento dispone de parking y está a corta caminata del pueblo y del mirador de San Cristóbal. El desayuno es correcto. El jacuzzi y piscina son excelentes para disfrutar de las tardes; las toallas se facilitan por un depósito de 10 € que se devuelve al entregarlas, y la sauna tiene un coste de 10 €. Los salones y las zonas comunes son muy agradables.

Lo negativo: La cama es muy dura y se notan los muelles. El aislamiento con las habitaciones contiguas es limitado y se escuchan claramente los vecinos.

Eklatant ist, dass es im Zimmer nur ein Nachkästchen gab und nur eine Steckdose, das ist nicht zeitgemäß, Internet auf dem Zimmer hat auch nicht funktioniert. Das Frühstücksbuffet könnte reichhaltiger sein, ist aber ok. Der Kaffee aus dem Automaten am Buffet ist nicht gut, auf Wunsch bekommt man aber einen Kaffee nach Wunsch (z.B. Cappucino). Die Einrichtung ist alt/elegant, mit viel Liebe zusammengestellt, aber irgendwie hatten wir den Eindruck, dass das Hotel nicht 'lebt', da fehlt der Spirit, die Herzlichkeit. AE in Restaurant ist nicht zu empfehlen, aber es gibt einige gute Restaurants in 5-15 min Entfernung. Alles in allem trotzdem gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis.

Chambre correcte mais un seul oreiller par personne, une couverture (et non une couette, attention pour les allergiques) et un lit pour 2 de petite taille, grande et belle sdb, vue bouchée par une haie devant le parking, isolation ok sauf si voisins bruyants comme les nôtres :-( Parties communes très élégantes de même que l’espace spa. Attention pas de places de parking pour tout le monde au sein de l’établissement malgré 2 parkings. Petit déjeuner ok mais sans plus.

Bodde der tre netter. Var stort sett på farten på dagtid, men sov og spiste frokost på hotellet. Ligger i en liten landsby og man bør ha bil for å komme til og fra. Fin hage og innendørs svømmebasseng som vi ikke rakk å prøve, men så rent og pent ut. Fine rom, men ganske lytt, spesielt fra spisesalen nedenunder.

Ein sehr schönes Landhaushotel mit 20 Zimmern. Sauber, sehr nettes Personal, Frühstück gut, Zimmer gross. In einem kleinen Dorf mit einem kleinen Geschäft, Snackbar, Apotheke, eine andere Bar. Mit Meerblicjmk, von Bergen u.geben. Schwimmbad mit Sauna eine tolle Sache. Abendessen im Hotel möglich. Ruhige Gäste, überwiegend ältere Wanderer. Im Winter (ich war Anfang Februar dort), an regnerischen und wi digen Tagen kann das Zimmer etwas kühl anfühlen, also am Besten warme Hausschuhe, warmes Pyjama und warme Sachen mitnehmen. Ein Heizkörper ist vorhanden wird von 16 Uhr bis ca 8 Uhr betrieben aber an kalten Tagen reicht er nicht, um das geräumige Zimmer richtig warm zu machen. Schöne Möbel im alten Quinta-Stil, unten ein sehr grosser Aufenthaltraum. Alles schön revoniert.

Traditionelle Unterkunft im Norden der Insel

Die Lage ist etwas abgelegen aber sehr idyllisch und ruhig. Das Zimmer war gross, im alten Madeirastil eingerichtet. Wir hatten ein 2-Bett-Zimmer, die Betten waren sehr schmal die Matratze sehr hart. Badezimmer war sauber und mit Dusche und Bidet. Wir haben 2 mal dort im Garten am Abend gegessen, was ganz gut war. Der Garten ist sehr schön und mit vielen Liegeplätzen ausgestattet, das Hallenbad ist auch sehr schön und gepflegt. Beim Frühstück könnte besser nachgefüllt werden, die Brötchen müssten aufgebacken werden, sie sind weich und laberig. Die Auswahl beim Frühstück ist mager. Der Kaffee ist schlecht.
Die Angestellten sind freundlich und bemüht. Parkplätze sind genügend vorhsnden.

Wat ik minder vond waren de blaffende honden in de nacht(van het hotel zelf notabene) Een persoon bij de balie sprak geen engels en bleef alles maar in portugees herhalen. En ik miste een airco. De prijs is natuurlijk niet hoog maar het ligt dan ook in een omgeving waar je zonder auto niks kan.

L'hôtel se situe dans une maison de charme, totalement rénovée avec le confort moderne. Les chambres sont propres et la literie est confortable. Il y a une piscine, que nous n'avons pas eu l'occasion de tester : nous avons favorisé la randonné à proximité.

El edificio es muy bonito y muy bien cuidado, pero han gastado dinero en la decoración y han olvidado varías cosas esenciales: los colchones son muy incómodos, las almohadas con bolas y poco relleno y las bases de las camas hacen mucho ruido al girarse. El desayuno lo mismo diario, nos quedamos una semana, entonces fue aburrido. La piscina super bien y nunca hubo un problema para aparcar.

Das Hotel liegt abgelegen in den Bergen. Wenn man dies wünscht, gibt es von uns eine klare Empfehlung. Sehr schönes Hotel mit sehr freundlichem Personal. Perfekt!

La struttura ha parecchio potenziale ma non è valorizzato. Le camere, a novembre inoltrato, devono essere riscaldate. Mettetei anche il servio di bollitore nelle stne. Da migliorare la cucina

Wir waren für 10Tage hier und vollkommen zufrieden. Das Frühstück war vollkommen ausreichend und wir sind jeden Morgen satt geworden. Wir hatten HP gebucht und hatten jeden Abend ein 3 Gang Menü. Auf individuelle Wünsche wurde eingegangen. Das Personal was super freundlich und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Absolut zu empfehlen wenn man ein ruhiges Hotel zum entspannen sucht!

Sehr schön gelegenes Hotel, das Zimmer war geräumig und sehr sauber (Zimmer wurde jeden Tag aufgeräumt inkl. neuer Handtücher), Frühstück einfach, aber lecker; Personal größtenteils nett, wir kommen wieder!

Nice location in the mountains, great starting point. Value for money is very good, the room
was comfortable. There is a newly renovated pool area with jacuzzi and sauna which was nicer than in some 5 star hotels. The breakfast was ok for a few days, it’s nothing special. Staff very friendly. When you’re looking for an affordable place to stay for a few days, this is the place for you.

Excelente estadia.

Hotel muito bom. Quarto limpo e amplo. Café da manhã muito bom. Serve jantar com pratos regionais muito gostosos. Funcionários muito simpáticos. Destaque para a Sra Olinda, simpática, atenciosa e com muito boas dicas de passeios e lugares que só os locais sabem. Se algum dia voltar à maravilhosa Ilha da Madeira com certeza ficarei de novo neste hotel.

Very nice located hotel with a lush garden, great swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Nice service, pretty good restaurant. We booked a double bed room for 81 Euros/Night and got one in the old part with a bit outdated furniture and no balcony. Surprisingly the hotel was a bit clairaudient. That was okay for us but the mattress was horrible: when your partner turned in the (narrow) bed you almost fell out of it. Furthermore the pillows were way too small and soft. The bathroom was okay, but there was a smell coming out of the sink. The breakfast was disappointing: really really standard, except some fruits nothing fresh. The bred and croissants tasted nothing. The coffee was good. So overall I recommend when you book there to insist to get a room in the newer part, where the beds are hopefully better.

Die Lage inmitten der Berge ist sehr besonders, - toller Ausblick und viel Ruhe! Dadurch sind die Anfahrt und Wege zu Ausflugszielen allerdings recht umständlich.
Die Hotelanlage ist sehr stilvoll: altes Landhaus mit einem sehr gelungenen modernen Anbau, schöne Zimmer und eine tolle Relaxing-Area mit Indoor-Schwimmbad und Sauna.

Ce joli établissement se trouve au calme dans un village. Le matin nous sommes réveillés par le chant des coqs.
Par contre, si l on ne dîne pas à hôtel, il faut faire plusieurs kilomètres pour trouver un restaurant.

Pro: Außerordentlich freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Sehr gute Kommunikation auf englisch möglich. Traumhafte Lage (besonders für Wander*innen.
Contra: Wir fanden das Essen und vorallem das Frühstück (im Preis inbegriffen) nicht zufriedenstellend. Da ist man anderes gewöhnt.
Die Entfernung zur Hauptstadt ist weit, ohne Mietwagen keine Chance- 45 Minuten mit dem Auto.
Wer Ruhe sucht und in der Natur sein möchte und beim Frühstück auch mit 1 Sorte Käse glücklich ist- perfekter Ort.
