Really nice hotel in Hamilton. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were great. Within walking distance of lots of great restaurants. Our only complaint was the parking -- we were unable to use any of the parking spots allocated to the hotel, and instead had to find street parking (which was often also full). Other than the difficult parking, we'd definitely consider staying here again!

Terrific stay, restaurant was the best good we had in NZ. Staff and service again excellent. Self service laundry facilities also available. Only slight disappointment is the lack of parking availability, but understandable given inner-city location. Highly recommend this hotel in Hamilton.

The first morning we had the cooked breakfast. My wife did have to ask for a boiled egg and I didn't realise I could have asked for poached eggs. May be optional variations could be better be brought to the attention of guests. On the second morning we chose to have the continental breakfast. It was excellent with so many choices. Our room was one of the best we have stayed in recently. As we were there for only two nights we did not require landry servicing. The whole stay, including a Christmas Eve flutter in the casino and the Christmas Day buffet lunch was exactly what we were hoping for

Tired Hotel making it overpriced for what you get

Staff were fantastic, I haven’t stayed here for a few years and found this hotel is getting very tired.
Worn carpets in rooms and not looking well vacuumed
Breakfast wasn’t great, stale bread and cold cuts left out long enough to change colour
Bonus though Bed was comfortable.

Incorrect deposit

I am writing to formally raise a concern regarding my recent stay at Novotel on 15 August.

Upon arrival, the night Duty Manager greeted us without a proper welcome and immediately asked for our keys. We explained that we had not yet checked in but had booked online. After confirming our booking and full payment, he informed us we were required to pay a $320 deposit as security in case of damage.

This amount surprised us, as it seemed unusually high. I reconfirmed that our stay had already been paid for, and Amrit explained that the $320 was only a deposit. We paid the amount and proceeded to our room.

Later, I reviewed the hotel policy outlined in the confirmation email, which stated that the required deposit is $100. I returned to reception to clarify. Another staff member confirmed that $100 is indeed the standard deposit. When I asked Amrit to show me where it stated that $320 was required, he could not provide a policy and instead said he had “just charged randomly.” This explanation was unsatisfactory, so I decided to follow up with the morning staff.

The morning team was surprised by what had occurred, apologised, and confirmed it should have been $100. I also spoke morning Duty Manager, who advised that because I paid by credit card, the deposit should have been $50, not $100, and certainly not $320.

The staff are very friendly. I only had one issue, and that was the guest laundry - it was extremely helpful to have this, but they need to put clear instructions for the different machines up. I lost $4 - this is not about the money - but the porter was at pains to tell me what I did wrong, and honestly - I didn't do anything wrong I just tried to figure out the machines with no instructions. He did not offer to return my coins - a very small amount but I felt that was a bit off. He also did not need to lecture me, how am I to know how to operate the con mechanism? The two machines had a totally different system, one was a push in, one was a push in and pull out (I didn't know to pull the coin thing back out). It was annoying. Also on check in, and in the room there was no information given about breakfast times, no water in the room or suggestion to get water for the room, no indication that weekend breakfast went for longer, and no help to bring bags to the room. When checking out there were no trolleys left and I had to make several trips on my own, a fellow GUEST offered to help me. None of this is bad - I wasn't annoyed, but it is not 5 star so I think they could reflect that more honestly in their rating? I will repeat that the front desk and the restaurant and housekeeping staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent. The decor is looking a little worn and tired but the rooms were clean. I would stay there again.

Website states no reserved parking (first come first served basis) and limited parking. When we arrived there was approximately 13 free parking sapces coned off down the side of the building. When I enquired about those spaces i was told by the valet that they had been reseved for a group. Ehat happened to first come first served. This then forced us to find alternative parking and in the end not knowing the area we used the valet service.

This hotel was very basic and relatively comfortable but I cannot believe how much I paid for it. It was worth about half the cost. I was only there overnight, so it suited my needs. However, when I asked the desk clerk about tours in the area and then again about the train schedule, she unhelpfully referred me to the internet. Don't expect much.

It’s a great quiet place to stay. Rooms are very comfortable. Bathroom is a little tight but shower pressure makes up for it.
Breakfast was really good.
Had to run the dryer twice to dry my load of clothes so that was a time waster

This is still the safest bet in Hamilton for a business hotel. It is not run down in any way. But it does looked dated - a 90s design ethos. My only real complain is the food, which is bland and unsophisticated. They could really do with some excellence in the kitchen.

The air-conditioned unit needs some attention, very hard to get it to cool. Pillows could do with an upgrade.
In the dining area, listening to an Asian man yelling at his staff was not good. Items also missing from the meals which had to be asked for.

I traveled all day to check in and be told there was no available valet parking. I had to self park in an unfamiliar area. To add insult to injury, the cost of the overnight parking was the same as the unavailable valet parking. Amenities are what make a hotel upscale.

Housekeeping is lacking. Shower gel empty on arrival, black mold in shower, no bin liners. Next day refresh left a new towel but did not remove soiled towels left on floor, did not empty overflowing bin, or replace dirty coffee mugs. Property is tired compared to other Novotels.

The hotel is very nice, the only complaint would be the parking facilities, we had been at Meatstock working all day and came back and there was no parking available. We had to find one and walk back to the hotel.
Secondly we came back and our room hadn’t been serviced so we had to make our beds and on Sunday morning I had to go and find coffee cos there was none in our room. For the costing we found that unacceptable

Parking : strongly encouraged valet parking albeit expensive. When I checked in I was told that valet isn’t available and I will have to park on my own. But the valet himself said parking is available. No complaints but was a bit confusing

Food in the room: there were cookies, water and other beverages in the room, available for a cost. We ended up eating a cookie, only to check later that best before date had long passed. There was expired food in the mini bar

Breakfast: overall great. However if you arrive in the second half of the breakfast time, you may not get the vegan muffins, cut fruits. So be early to the breakfast

Surrounding area: 2 out of the 3 nights I was there, there were loud noises in front of the hotel. First night, presumably drunk people stopping cars on the street, playing loud music on jukebox and in the car, doing rounds in front of the hotel. Second night, some kind of bike racing and people cheering. Bikes were doing multiple rounds in front of the hotel. Was hard to sleep on both the nights.
