The historic flagship hotel in Taiwan. Magnificient, traditional Chinese architecture. Rooms in the main building have panoramic city view. Excellent service and several restaurants offering a variety of dining options, including an unbelievable buffet. The spacious ground floor lobby is truly splendid but gets crowded when tour busses come in with visitors from mostly Asian countries.

A great place to start visits to Taiwan. There is so much history in this beautiful hotel. The only thing guests need to be aware of is that the hotel does not provide hair conditioner, which is quite a surprise. Until they fix this, bring your own conditioner if you need it.

The Grand Hotel is the real deal. The history hits you the moment you walk in, the bones are beautiful, and the location delivers what it promises. If you want a property with genuine character and a real sense of place, this is it.

That said, we had to cut our stay short. There was active construction going on that was never mentioned at booking, and finding out at check-in is not how a hotel at this level should operate. The staff, to their credit, handled it well and took care of a full refund without any hassle, which I appreciated.

Worth noting on location: it’s great for soaking in what the hotel is all about, but if you want to step outside and be right in the middle of the city action, you might find yourself doing a bit more traveling than expected. Not a dealbreaker, just good to know going in.

The reputation here is earned and I’d come back. Sort out the guest communication around construction and this is a five-star experience without question. For now, a strong four.

The staff was the most friendly. My friend and I arrived late at night, and at first, since it was our first time in Taipei, we had a hard time finding the hotel. However, once we did find the hotel, we were greeted by very friendly staff, who helped us with everything during our short stay. I definitely recommend this place, but do some research or contact the hotel ahead of time so you have an easier time arriving if you are using public transit or walking.

This hotel is impeccable. Historical meets luxury and absolutely stunning balcony views with a pool that kept us cool in the start of the summer. If you can possibly stay here, do it!! This place is truly amazing--classic Chinese style and simply magnificent. Everything was first rate too, a beautiful stay. Don't be put off by the location either--it is slightly out of the way, but BOLT cars are dirt cheap going back and forth anywhere you want to be. This is a lifetime experience, well worth doing at any price. Enjoy.

I had two people tell me that this hotel was amazing on the inside but old and not too nice on the inside. I’m afraid I have to disagree, it was amazing both inside and out. It’s has clearly been recently redone and the lobby, rooms, and restaurants were all great. We stayed in one of the rooms with a balcony, so I cannot speak to the windowless rooms.. which I suspect may have been the source of the other comments. The property has history, is beautiful, and I highly recommend it.

The hotel is a really impressive building and well located for views of Taipei, although use of the MRT, buses and bikes is needed to access most of the city. A shuttle bus is provided to guests every ~15 mins to the nearby MRT stations which is great for those carrying suitcases. It's also fairly easy to walk to Jiantian station as long as you are ok with stairs. The Shilin neighbourhood is in walkng distance and has good attractions, food, and a night market

Hotel rooms were clean and beds very comfortable, good tea and coffee are provided in rooms, temperature controls were a little tricky to figure out but the air conditioning worked well overall.

Baths and showers were great, very clean and large, water pressure and temperature were good

The economy tarriff is very well priced and allows access to great amenities such as the outdoor pool (which was a good facility) however there is no window in the room guests must pay for access to the restaurants and breakfasts which are relatively expensive. We went to local restaurants rather than eating at the hotel for this reason - although I understand the food is good!

The basement bar and tunnel are good attractions, with an impressive cocktail list including bespoke cocktails made with various Taiwanese ingredients and skilled bartenders.

It may be worth spending more money than we did to have a window viewing Taipei and access to hotel breakfast buffet! But overall a very comfortable stay.

Gorgeous and iconic hotel of Taiwan.

Stayed only for a night before heading home but made a great impression. It's not hard to say 'wow' to every corner. We booked a suite in the Chi Lin pavillion which is a connecting building from the main Grand Hotel. Much quieter and closer to the valley. Our room has an excellent view of Taipei skyline without the traffic noise that you get from the rooms of the main building.

Bed was super comfortanble I had great sleep. The hotel itself is outdated in some areas but that's the charm of it. There are lots to do in the hotel, plenty of restaurants to eat from (albeit pricey), some shops for convenience in the premises.

Great hotel! It's a must stay even for just one night.

The hotel is beautiful. However our room was in another building and we had to climb 4 sets of stairs, an elevator and walk to get there from lobby every day. The food variety was awful. Not western menu available; they ran out of chicken by 5 pm one day. We had eggs Benedict today for breakfast, they delivered it cold and forgot the salmon and bacon and hollandaise sauce and we had to wait a long time. They served pancakes with no butter or syrup and didn’t know what syrup was. Overall the food had no variety either. The room and beds were comfortable.

Not as Grand as you might think. It’s hard to believe that this hotel was once a five star hotel. The entrance is very grand but once you take a good look it quickly starts to show its true face.

The room lacked luster and wasn’t what I expected from a four or five star hotel. I recently stayed at a budget hotel, and I swear the Grand Hotel and this economy hotel had the same bed and pillows. When I would lay down on my side, I felt my hip and shoulder bones digging into mattress. There was shampoo in the room for a refillable bottle but no conditioner. No razor, no extra toothbrush, no extra bathroom amenities that a true five star would have. The outlet didn’t work in the bathroom either.

The food was… okay. Far from a five star, though. The buffet was a playground for kids and had multiple rooms that were quite a distance from the actual food. We are two adults, and they stuffed us in the back room with screaming kids and families. We thought it was going to be a nice atmosphere, but it was on the same level as a cheap hotel dinner.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you’re coming for the five star experience. You can visits the hotel without staying, that I would recommend.

Nice and clean room in a well sit location. The reception area is huge and will make you feel you are one of the celebrities when you are there. The shuttle bus is very convenient. The staff is quite nice. What I like the place the most is the back hill of the hotel. If you get up early and walk through the path back there you will see the city of Taipei and the New Taipei City from the other side.

This is a very beautiful hotel. The rooms are nice and the staff is very helpful. We had a room on the 7th floor and the views were awesome especially at night. They have shuttles to the Yuanshan Metro. The breakfast buffet is delicious. They even shuttle you to the pool but you can easily walk there in 5 minutes. We highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is decorated in a brightly elegant and at times, gaudy style. It works as an impressive glitzy showpiece. We stayed in a Horizon room with amazing views of the city. I thought the upgrade to the horizon room worthwhile. The room/bathroom was nicely appointed, clean and modern. The beds are nicely firm (my personal preference). The gym was a good - weights, universal machine, and some treadmills/bikes but small. The outdoor pool is large with a deep diving side. (The pool is moderage walk from the main hotel building, but there is also a shuttle). The hotel is situated between 2 Red line stops, however there is a shuttle bus every 20-30min to the YuanShan stop, if you’d prefer instead of walking.
We had dinner at the golden dragon (including a Peking duck). The dinner featured gorgeous views of the city as well. I thought the food was satisfying however not amazing or especially memorable.
I would absolutely stay at this hotel again, although I wish it were an easier walk to the metro stop.
