Room condition was alright, a little bit dated being an older hotel and building. Washroom was spacious. The complimentary drinks and snacks were a nice bonus. The overall vibes and atmosphere were old and historic so that may be a hit or miss for some people and their interests.

Room was great. Simple. Our room had a separate tub and shower so both people could wash at the same time, as long as they were ok with that.

The wifi didn't work on any of our devices. Tried different phones and laptops. They could connect and the provided password was correct, but no internet connection. Asked the front desk about it but couldn't troubleshoot it - but neither of us were entirely fluent in each other's languages. Troublesome to not have wifi for a long stay!

Very nice hotel, nothing to fault.Maybe...
you have to find your own breakfast and there is nothing available in the area until 10am at least.

Clean, professional staff and good exercise getting to public transport, which takes you everywhere.

Quiet area and lots of eating places for lunch, though I did not eat here. It was all in Chinese and workers did not want or can't speak English. I did not know what I would get.

I had picked hotel randomly but if I came back to Taipei/Taiwan I would stay here. More than I usually pay but worth it.

Easy to get anywhere with MRT. I think they need to train their personnel on customer service. I stayed at Ambience Hotel for the last two weeks of my trip and see a big gap on the customer service, friendly helpful and make me feel at home.

The first stayed the lamp was broken. The following week the window curtain fell and I told them but stayed that way till I checked out. The staffs some friendly some were not. The room is spacious and quality furnitures and amenities. The location is closed to MRT and Shilin market.the price is reasonable until there were sports competition.

There was a lingering cigarette smell though there was a sign that indicated No Smoking. Bed linens have a stale smell. Bathroom was big but super cold. Bath towels were so thin and frayed at the edges… should consider to provider fresh clean linens. Location is good but noisy.

Great Location near Shilin night market. A lot of restaurants near by as well as convenient store like 7-11 and family mart. Public transportation is not far from hotel as well.

Location: it is close enough to the MRT, Shin Lin night market and local eats, while being far enough to be \"not too city busy\". While this worked for us, please keep in mind it is about a 10-15 min walk away from the MRT station.
Staff are friendly and helpful, we had booked a taxi to the airport the day before and they were accommodating of the last minute request.
Breakfast was included in our booking, food was delicious and it is a mix of Asian congee, toast , cereal (standard). Space for seating is limited, so if you do go during \"peak\" times, be prepared to wait or share a table.
Room and washrooms were clean and presentable. We traveled with a infant and they provided a crib upon request.
We would book again in the future.

Room is clean, bed comfortable, helpful staff, breakfast is good, quiet and safe area, location is quite convenient about 15 mins walking distance to Jiantan station and Shilin night market. It’s about 6 stations to the XinBeitou hot springs area. Will stay here again on our next trip to Taipei. Going to city is not a problem as metro is very easy and convenient.

Old hotel not up to Standard.

This is an old and tired hotel. Very little in our room resembled the photos of this hotel online. Cleanliness of the room was well below acceptable. We stayed for 3 nights and the bed was not made in that time. The floor was not vacuumed in that time either. There were long black hair throughout the bathroom and neither of us have long or black hair. The couch was very badly stained and we had to cover it with a towel. There was only half a toilet roll in the bathroom when we arrived an had to resort to tissues until it was replaced. We paid for late checkout (extra 6 hours) which was approx. 70% of the full rate. Breakfast was not up to western standards and may only suit someone from Asia. This hotel is nowhere near the standard you would find in Bangkok or Hong Kong at a comparable price.

Recommended hotel near Shilin Market

This is a nice hotel with the convenient of transportation, shops and restaurants.
Staff are friendly and most of all very helpful as we have left something in the hotel and they made an effort to send it back to us.
Hotel is clean and breakfast is nice with good selection of Chinese and European food.
Hotel is walking distance to the famous Shilin Night Market.
Would recommend stay in this hotel.

Good facilities and location

The hotel furnishings may seem old but the room is clean and spacious. The Jacuzzi bathtub was a nice surprise although the instructions were in Chinese only.

Breakfast was a good variety of Western and Chinese cuisine.

The location is very good, being close to Jiantan MRT and within walking distance to Shilin night market. There are several convenience stores and eateries nearby also.

The hotel staff are polite and helpful.

We chose this place cuz it was near the Shilin Night Market, and yah, it's reasonably close. I think it was like a 15 minute walk. Close to metro (10 min walk) and close to bus stops that go to Yangminshan.

The place itself has a nicely air conditioned lobby, which we appreciated when we arrived from walking in the heat. We booked a triple, and it was basically the double bed in the room w/ a portable single bed. I didn't try the single bed, but it looked uncomfortable. Also w/ the single bed, the room was much more crammed. Bathroom was okay. Some outdated furniture, but not an issue in terms of functionality and cleaniness. No breakfast on site.

The rooms felt a little bit crammed. Majority of the bathroom was cleaned; however, I did find an used disposable contact lens on the floor. This place didn't have enough outlets for all the gadgets we needed to charge for our travels. It was nice that they provided water everyday and also some snacks.

Overall we are comfortable with the rooms and location. Only thing is that the toilet is using sensor for the lighting. My friends who are bathing halfway and the light went off. They have to actually come out from the toilet to tap on the switch again to on the light.

Nice clean hotel close to Shilin Night Market

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and loved it. This trip we booked ECFA hotel in Ximen area because we wanted to stay close there, but we absolutely hated that hotel. We stayed 1 night and decided we have to book the same Beauty Hotel we stayed in 2 years ago. Very last minute we were able to booked this hotel and got a very good price for it. The staffs were friendly and very helpful. The room we stayed in were very clean and nice. I would recommend this hotel because the location is great too.

The door is barely soundproof. I could hear the caretakers talking throughout the morning, doors opening and closing, vacuuming, etc. The shower and bath are not separate unlike what's was advertised.

Cons - Room was freezing cold (about 62 degrees F) all night, when I called the front desk, I was told that entire hotel is on central heating system and in-room heater is useless, no way to warm up room. Shower water leaked into the bathroom floor, no early check-in available.

Pros - Front desk staff and breakfast staff very friendly, good breakfast.

Shilin nightmarket hotel

This hotel is about an 8 minute walk to the famous Shilin nightmarket and Jiantan metro station. There is a great complementary breakfast buffet with some items changing everyday. Only the people at the front desk speak English, the rest of the staff do not so you might have some problem with communication. The self-serve laundry on the 11th floor was handy to have, which we used. There is a Family Mart just outside, plus a Subway and a dumpling/noodle shop which served terrific beef noodle soup. The taxi fare from Taoyuan airport was about 1050 Taiwan $. Downstairs in the lobby there is always coffee and tea. For the price and location, it was a great hotel which met our needs.

Surprisingly good

This was a surprisingly good hotel. I had no expectations for this one but it turned out well. The only negative was that the taxi drivers from the main station were unfamiliar with the hotel and because I didn't have the info in mandarin, we actually got kicked out of one taxi. The hotel is an easy walk to the train station and the Shilin night market which is a nice bonus. The breakfast buffet is primarily Chinese but there was toast and fruit and cereal.

-Excellent customer service (including front desk, valet and waiters)
-Big room & toilet
-Great location (nearby Qian Gang park and 10-15 minutes walk to Metro Jiantan Station & Famous Shilin night market)
-surrounded by lots of restaurants (breakfast shops, mee, pizzas, subway,...) & convenience store (just opposite of the hotel)
-Abundant and various food in breakfast( local taiwanese, western cuisine,...)
-Free coffees in the G floor waiting room
-Provide free luggage storing service

I booked a family quadruple room for 3 nights in the hotel. The day I reached the hotel was nearly midnight and I was first disappointed by the outlook of the hotel building. Nevertheless, later the check in process was prompt and I was given a room with big double beds and toilet. We had great first night. The second day, we slowly find much more good points for the hotel. First, we were impressed by its complimentary hotel breakfast as there is much more than we expect and the food is pretty good. One thing to point out is the excellent customer service. The front desk staff was prompt to respond our requests (store our luggage, book taxi, check in & out) and they were friendly to answer any questions form us. I had a great stay and will definitely come back here on my next trip in Taipei.

Overnight stop for a convention, the hotel was easy to find(Big neon sign or catch a cab) Check in was ok The room was large and clean Bathroom also large and clean ( The toiletries are in the draw)Old Lift however that is common in Taipei. There was a little noise coming from the corridor however I was opposite the lift . The night markets are walking distance down the road and in fact this is the reason I chose this hotel. All in all I would stay here again

We stayed here for the week of New Years. Every hotel was pricey in Taipei and this was the closest to the city that we could find at a decent price. When we arrived at 12:30PM, the hotel would not allow us to check in even after we offered to pay for checking in early. They allowed us in at exactly the check in time. The room is dated. The bathroom was not made for a stand up shower, water leaks all over the entire bathroom. One morning the breakfast room was so busy they told us to leave and come back at a later time. Overall, I would only stay here again if it was the only place available in Taipei.

I have stayed here in 2009 and decided to book this hotel again for my trip in Dec 2014. I am disppointed this time as I found that the condition of the room have gotten old. And I think because of the design of the bath tub, the floor is always wet whenever we use the shower head. Otherwise, everything else was great.

Convenient to Shilin Night Market

The Star Beauty Hotel is conveniently located by the metro and the Shilin night market. It's not a luxury hotel but is comfortable and quiet. Interesting variety of rooms, from Japanese-style rooms (with beds on platforms, a bit hard on older joints) to Western ones. Large bathrooms. Very good and varied buffet breakfast, pleasant staff. This was our 3rd stay there. Very good value for the price of the room.
