Where do I even start? Firstly, the rooms had a ton of mold in them, and they were not properly cleaned. This was unsafe, especially with asthma sufferers.

Secondly, the breakfast is lacking many basic options, very limited food options. Protein options are primarily pork and eggs.

Thirdly, the cleaners did a terrible job with our room multiple times. Particularly the occasion where they didn’t even bother putting the bedding in properly, meaning that the actual bedding inside wasn’t covered. Additionally, after calling reception through the provided phone, they said there is nothing they can do as they are only two people and there are no cleaners available. This should not be my problem. This is the hotel’s problem. Make sure your cleaners do their job PROPERLY and this wouldn’t be an issue.

Fourthly, the bedding itself was ABSOLUTELY terrible. I have had the worst sleep I have ever had abroad the past 4 days. The bedding continuously comes undone due to the lack of an ACTUAL cover, meaning it’s simply open for it to rip apart and get loose (provided the cleaners even do their job properly in the first place). The mattress was shockingly poor, there were constant stains and dirt on the bed, and the pillows were horrible. Never in my life did I think I would have such a poor experience sleeping in a hotel. SLEEPING IN A HOTEL. Worst bed, covers, mattress and pillows and nothing comes close.

Fifthly, the door lock doesn’t work, and there isn’t even a remote for the TV.

Canifor Hotel St Pauls Bay - Do not stay here

This is not a 4* hotel. Liiterally just left this hotel. l Would not recommend to stay in this hotel. Like other reviews, location is great, some of the staff are friendly. I only booked for breakfast, which was fine.
However, the young students that were staying there (around 40) were extremely disruptive, running up and down the corridors banging and shouting. This was constant from 8.30-10.30 and then between 2am and 3.30am. Reception staff not interested. We had to go out and speak to them ourselves. Whilst we were there the hotel had to repair one room twice as doors had been broken. You don't see the 'teachers' anywhere.
We found out that the hotel 'houses' students wanting to learn English on a weekly basis.
When we left the hotel to fly home, so did these students, but another lot were arriving.
This hotel may have been a 4* a couple of years ago, but I would rate as a 1 or 2* - this would be due to the students damaging the rooms.
This hotel either needs to put all the students on one floor or have the whole hotel as a student accommodation.
If you are already booked into this hotel and your room is either 200 or 300 something, ask to change, as it seems the students at this hotel are allocated rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Our first room smelled so bad on poison( later discovered that there's so many little bugs) tha we had to ask for another one. To their credit they did change it immediately. The room was old and outdated . No safe deposit box , horrible bed, bed sheet would have been frrom ww2 same with the pillows.Towels were old as well. The ceiling fan was shaking at low and high speed the air-conditioning wasn't cooling as it should but making a loud noise. Had full board paid but used it only once as i wasn't impressed(different taste maybe but some people were eating).don't know how it got rated 4 stars but this is definitely the worst hotel that we stayed in. Do not do the same mistake as i did thinking its a 4 star should be good.

Amazing place

This hotel was absolutely lovely! It is only a short walk from the beach and there are many restaurants and shops around. There was music in the evening and dancing which was so fun! There is an indoor and outdoor pool that are open 9-6. The breakfast buffet had lots of options. The room was nice and clean. I would definitely stay there again next time I come to Malta

Overall not too bad

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is clean. Unfortunately we try to grade during asked day to all inclusive but they refused wasn’t that the state was really good. The breakfast are OK but please be careful as I found a fly in the milk, but they quickly changed it. The food is OK. The staff are not all the best, but Natalie is fantastic. She has a time for you.

Front desk staff and housekeeping staff were pleasant and helpful. However, I kept having a bad experience with one of the employees who serves the breakfast in the morning (woman, wears glasses); she was rude, to say the least, and considering she was being pleasant with everyone else, I can’t help but take it personal considering it happened every timeI went downstairs for breakfast.
When it comes to the hotel itself, gym is very tiny, has a dirty carpet, and weights are practically non existent (enough stationary bikes and treadmills, though). Air conditioning in the main foyer feels nice and is strong; however don’t let that fool you as in the rooms it is not controlled by the individual guest themselves, therefore the rooms can get quite hot during the day which makes them almost uninhabitable. The ceiling fan and the closing of the curtains helps, along with being practically naked. I did see a cockroach in the room. TV is small, no remote to be found. Bed was a good size, but had a spring mattress so it was quite uncomfortable.
The hotel is within walking distance to several spots.

I really enjoyed the food. A substantial breakfast and good evening meal which always had a starter, meat, fish or veggie options, salads and a range of desserts.
Very efficient restaurant with helpful and friendly staff.
Although it advertises free parking, this was on the road outside and spaces were hard to find.

This hotel may have been nice at one time but now it is quite run down and needs to be updated.
The beds were dirty. The sheets were not clean and had hair in the bed.
The beds were miserably uncomfortable. The bathroom sink was clogged and would not drain properly. Overall very disappointing.
We ended up leaving although we had 2 remaining nights in our reservation that were not refundable.

Avoid at all cost

What was suppose to be a relaxing holiday was an absolute nightmare.

We checked in and the staff was friendly, the place was a little outdated from the photos but we thought it had great amenities and a good location.

We got to our room and the balcony door was broken and the aircon unit sounded like a jet engine. We went back to the front desk to ask for a room change and the receptionist resisted and insisted that the room was fine, we had to stand our ground to avoid being bullied into staying in the original room, the receptionist went from being really lovely to rude and aggressive when we asked for a simple room change. We did end up getting the new room which was much better, again outdated which we weren’t bothered about but upon closer inspection everything was very dirty. We only had one night here and we were exhausted so we just said we will sleep on towels to avoid touching anything.
When having a shower the water pressure is barely a trickle, you would have gotten more water and cleaner if you paid a hobo to spit on you.

Nothing was open and this was not disclosed upon check in or before when the reservation was made, we wanted to play a game of pool after our dinner at a nearby restaurant but the room was dark and looked like a storage unit. We decided that because it was a bit late (8pm) we would just go to the rooftop spa and relax for a bit. There was no lighting and the spa was drained. There was no signage so anyone going up here.

Dated hotel with pleasant staff

You get what you pay for. Stayed for 7 nights and needed assistance from maintenance on a couple of occassions. Room had not been thoroghly cleaned prior to our arrival and we had to request clean towels on our last night as our room had not been cleaned or towels changed.
Our room was compact with an ensuite shower. We were situated that the back of the hotel overlooking the Elvis tribute bar and had a marvellous huge terrace, such a blessing and we were able to enjoy the great views. The air-conditioning was a god send, would never have survived the August heat without it.

Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The accommodation is dated but the room, when cleaned was adequate and the bed very comfortable. The hotel was quite quiet and strict guidelines were in place to support distancing and hand hygiene.

My wife and I have been visiting Malta for the last 9 years and have stayed in 5 other hotels, this one by far is the best and good value for money.
My only moan is the pillows but they were managable for a short stay.

We arrived to find there was not a room available as they were overbooked but we could have one of their apartments and be upgraded to half board. However, the apartment was dirty and smelled of cigarette smoke. We returned to the reception and without saying anything we were told we would have a room indicating to us that they knew the state of the apartment. The room they put us in appeared initially clean but had cockroaches in the bathroom. Also the room was one they didn’t use very often as it was right near the cleaners who woke us every morning very early as they didn’t know were in there. Also we had to ask for towels and I made the beds each day. Not impressed at all. We have stayed at this hotel before so it was very disappointing this time.

Awful experience over there anond got transferred back to Canifor, which is okay but definitely not a 4* hotel, maybe 30 years ago. Terrible food, whether is Breakfast or dinner. No remote either for TV and Air conditioner....won't repeat

It was full of noisy students and teenagers. The remaining 25% adult guests were pretty rough. The breakfast was barely suitable for a dog. The overall facility was tired, old and I haven’t stayed in rooms that bad in over 40 years!! There is a massive building site opposite. You have to even pay the use the safe deposit box in the room and leave a deposit for the TV control! The best thing about this hotel is the reception!!! As for Bugibba, Magaluf is more appealing!!

Wasn't nothing unique about the hotel.The room what we got 331,was horrible dirty ,smelling ,sheets they wasn't changed,they was used and hair all over on it.Then the floor wasnt carpets, it was tiles and it was cold as it was no carpet at all.The balcony door wasn't closings and the cold was coming true.
And the worst part from it all we didnt had heating at all,when we gone down next day to complain about it and ask help we was told is not heating at all.They didn't help us at all so we end up going out buying our own electric heater as was to cold to sleep .Then the food we had no choices to pick at all ,we had half board payd but we decided to eat out anyway .
Nothing on they websites is the truth ,i will never visit the hotel againand i do not recommend it ,only if youwant to be disappointed.

Unique. Hmm. Let's see. My boyfriend's sheets had blood on them. I only saw it after we woke up in the morning. My sheets had a rip in them the size of my elbow. It was tucked on the side of my mattress. The beds were sliding on the floor when we slept. Continental breakdast had very limited choices and if you wanted to take your coffee by the pool side you had to pay 10€ to do so. When i asked for all my sheets and pillow covers to be replaced (4 sheets and 2 pillow covers) upon discovering the blood, they told me the locker is closed and i have to wait for the key holder to come to work. When someone finally came they brought up 2 sheets. I had to go and make a huge fuss at the reception about it. Apologies none.
We were unable to sleep since right outside our window there was a table for people to get drunk at. At 2 am i called reception and they did nothing about it.
When we left they asked us for an extra 35€ for laundry service. I contested the charge and the receptionist was like \"oh yeah sorry wrong room\".
Free self parking? My ass! We got a ticket since there literally was NO PLACE to park. We were told to park were we find a spot beside the curb.
I have never been to a worse hotel with ruder staff! Ever!

A pretty good hotel for average budgets.
The rooms are all you need, cleaned well.
Food has quite a selection for breakfast, and lunch. Evening meals could be a little more varied.
Staff are very busy and some seem a bit grumpy. That could do with improving. They try their best to make your stay pleasant.
Be aware full board is NOT AI, it has no drinks at all (overcharged for upgrade)
Overall a good 3 star hotel, but not 4 star. Would revisit.

location of hotel was very good easy access to every thing but facilities not to my expectation of a four star hotel. rooms although cleaned daily bed sheets were not changed for our whole duration and during lunch and dinner we had to pay for all drinks including water although we had full board facilities.staff were polite and helpfull but i would grade it as a 3 star hotel not four.

hotel staff was polite but the environment looks old and tired and taste of dust in the air , construction going on on all sides of the area , the steam room is not working , the sauna is but is small ans designed for a back garden experience looks more like an after thought , the jacuzzi is effective but old and needs refreshing . Food is okay entertainment isthe same year in year out , can be very busy on friday and saturday evenings when locals come in to dance.

long distance to valetta and sliema. Cheap bus fares but bumpy rides. Hotel definitely NOT 4 STARS. Returned Pork chops to chef as they were not fully cooked. Area for cereals -tea or cofee too small and highly congested. Distance between serving area and tables too narrow which resulted in congestion getting back to your table.No tea or cofee for lunch or evening dinner only Breakfast - which isn't very good.As stated above DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR HOTEL!!

I am not sure how the hotel claim that it is 4 stars. Uncomfortable beds, poor performing airconditioners, bathroom in poor state of repair and tired lighting are main highlights of the hotel room which was given to us for stay. Hotel promise free parking but have no parking lot. You need to find on street parking which is free around the hotel. Location is good and many food places are at walking distance.
My advise if you are booking this hotel, compare the prices with 2 star hotels which is the correct rating of this hotel.
Overall very disappointing.

One good point, friendly staff. They are amazing and helpful.

We had a few issues with the hotel. The air conditioner didnt work and when we complained they sent maintenance up. He said it didn't turn on till 5 pm, which still didnt explain why all night it didnt work. The ceiling fan is loose so all night it made noise.
No screens on the padio doors. No dead bolt on main door.
If you put all of that a side it was an acceptable hotel. The lady in the lobby that helped book our tours went above expectations to make sure we all had a good time. The resturant staff were great. Its in a good location with stores close by.
Next time we come back i wont unpack untill im sure the air conditioner works.

Over booking a speciality.

On arrival at 1.30 in the morning we were told by the night porter (after a colleague told him to stop watching his television set and deal with us) that the hotel was over booked and that we would be staying at another hotel tonight and transferred back in the morning. The transport did not turn up and we had to arrange our own transport. Hotel itself is okay but not a 4 star by any stretch of the imagination. Speaking to other guests, over booking is a common occurrence at this hotel. The manager, Bernice, did a reasonable job in the morning dealing with our annoyance and it felt like this was something that perhaps she had to do regularly.

When we arrived we were told there was an issue with the room and we were being upgraded to all inclusive and an apartment. It room smelled like urine, the bedding was grey, the window had a section missing, the towel rail was falling off the wall as was an electrical output. Overall it was extremely run down.

The rooms were a little dated but comfortable. The air conditioning wasn't sufficient but the fan made up for this. Although we didn't come on holiday to watch the TV there was no controller. Food was adequate, not the best that we have had but fine.

This holiday was to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and my mother emailed the hotel directly to see if we could have something special during our stay but nothing was provided.

The location is good, but the place is old and stingy. The air-con in the room was weak so we were hot all the time. The staff were generally not very helpful. They would not allow us to bring our own water bottles into the restaurant at dinner, but then it would take up to 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order for water! The pool is nice, but crowded, and only open from 9 am-6 pm, so no morning or evening swims. Lots of old people with tour packages from the UK.

Good outdoor swimming pools but

the four star hotel didn't deliver to my expectation. Close to the sea but not the main tourist place, however close to bus station to Valletta and to other parts of the island. Room was OK, beds were very comfortable. Restaurant is overcrowded with tables, hardly could get around. Dishes were always filty and sticky. Selection of food very poor. 24 hours reception was closed for 2 hours between 17:30 and 19:30. Finally, when we get to the hotel it was overbooked so we had to stay at another hotel whcih was only 3 stars. If you don't want high quality, then it's OK with the basics.

Central hotel, very good value

Can’t fault this hotel for what we paid for it. Room was basic but cleaned everyday and had everything we needed. We had bed and breakfast, nice selection of food on offer. There was a pool, sunbeds and outdoor chairs.... is it the nicest hotel in the world... no. But for £11 a night each it was fantastic - and left us lots more spending money for our holiday!

A great hotel in Malta, the Canifor Hotel

A great hotel with friendly helpful staff. Hotel and room very clean and comfortable, food was great, plenty of choices to choose from. Would highly recommend the Canifor hotel.

Hotel was very nice. Slight bit of damp in room. Good facilities. Food very nice but no drink available with evening meal and we were half board so 1 drink could have been offered.

We didn't actually stay at the Canifor Hotel. After booking three months in advance and receiving an email to say that our booking was guaranteed, we arrived at the hotel only to be told they had overbooked and did not have a room for us. The desk 'manager' was quite brusque when telling us this. We were told that we would be transferred to another 4 star hotel and were quickly whisked off in a taxi to our new hotel about a mile away. This turned out to be a 3 star hotel! It spoilt our holiday and I will be writing to complain. We happened to be chatting to another holiday maker who visits Malta annually and he said this has happened at the Canifor before.

Hotel in Good Location

We chose this Hotel, which we have also used previously, because it has a location which makes it convenient for access to the Bus Station, Restaurants, Local Attractions and Local Shops. We also enjoy it's quieter location and indoor pool at this time of year. The Buffet Breakfast is good with a plentiful range of food on offer.

Great vacation in Canifor hotel

I spent great vacation in Canifor hotel. Everything was very nice and clean. The whole staff was very kind and nice with me and my family. The food was very various and excellent quality. The outdoor and indoor pools all the time clean and in good condition. Thanks to the whole staff in Canifor hotel. It was lovely vacation. We will come again!

Look nice on the photos, but we have terrible \"superior\" room which wasn't even similar to photos. Very old furnitures. I order double bed but they was full so we have two single beds.

Nice hotel

Nice hotel reception staff could have been a bit more helpful as the rest of the staff were food was fine close to sea shops restaurants and bars.pool and roof terrace clean and not to busy overall I had a good stay.

fairly good hotel

As a diver I only needed a place to sleep as I was out all day, and the facilities where clean and the interaction between myself and the staff was always polite and pleasant. The room was upgraded to an apartment which was clean and usable, for my needs. I didn't use the upgraded food pass (B&B to Half board) as I was with friends and we chose to eat out.

A disaster from the moment we(family of 2 adults and two children) arrived at Malta airport- free transfers did not turn up so we had to get ourselves.Eventually found hotel late into the night, where the keys were basically thrown at us.We were told: take the lift to second floor.When asked about tea making facilities we were told no problem 3.50 euros a day for a kettle.No free wifi in the hotel as promised .It cost in the lobby or bedroom =1 euro for twenty minutes.Outside, every place has free wifi.Food in the restaurant POOR-could only eat the toast,eggs were black.Home made wooden beds with ripped sheets.Litter in the hallways and stairs.When asked to move a bed out of the way a member of staff threw it against the wall smashing a picture-glass went all over NEXT to us.Toilet seat- disgusting and toilet never everflushed.Furnishings need replacing.You even pay a deposit for the tv remote -supposed to be sky tv but ha, ha - could only pickup one station.

The worst hotel experience of my life

I travel a lot and have stayed in more than my share of bad hotels, but this was the worst. This is not a 4 star hotel. I booked it through Expedia's unlisted hotels deals, but will never make the mistake of doing that again.

The staff was rude. Even a simple request such as directions to the bus station was treated as an unreasonable request.

The room was dirty, there were cockroaches and the sink/shower didn't drain properly. The air conditioning didn't work.

Reduce the number of stars!

I have stayed in the hotel for 10 Days and it is very clear that this is not a 4 star hotel, rather a 2 star hotel. I did not get the superior room I payed for, the pool area is a joke - small and almost no sunshine, Breakfast is ok but dinner is terrible - something with pork each and every day. If you are unlucky to end up in this junk, prepare yourself with a lot of cash - you will need to deposit Money for safety box, for remote control and for control panel for AC - that would never happen in a real four star hotel......

good place to get around from nice staff

got to the hotel looked nice very good part of town lot's of pub's and places's to eat bus station just aroun the corner every think i had planed and exspected good looking forward
to a shower and a cold beer,so in I go,nice reception air/con all good,hello here to start my holiday...oo we have a problem......no room for me due to bad storms room's need to be fixed up i asked if i could see the rooms that were damaged as i am good with a pain brush oo no need for that we will send you to another hotel but i wanted to stay in this area after much weepining, gnashing of teeth and name droping of some of my local friend's...nice pepole really!the gave me a wonderfull arpartment fridg,air con,cooker t.v great view,clean towle's every day well pleased,would and shall go back,thank you canifor.

Clean, friendly hotel in a good location

Hotel location good with restuarants, bars, seafront and Classic Car Museum very close but a bit tricky to find in the one-way system. Parking fine outside hotel. Hotel food fine with entertainment nightly. Didn't try indoor pool / sauna / jacuzzi facilities as sauna not working and jacuzzzi cold (this was February). Second room was good and comfortable but first room given was an anti-room to the Conference facility on 6th floor with no number on the door, privacy or standard facilities. If given key to 601 change it immediately! Will go back to hotel again hopefully when weather warmer.

Hotel is very clean and provide a nice atmosphere.Localization is perfect and is great value for your money.Food is ok but if you are person who like different type of food every day then is a lot of places around the hotel where you can eat or drink.Every day hotel organising the karoke or salsa dancing or some fun inside the pub.To Qwara beach is just 10 min away it is not sundy beach but still nice.The closer sundy beach is Amazonia on side Dolmen Hotel which is not so faraway from Canifor.There is the Post office too and Promende.Pint just 1 eur in each pub, drink just 2 eur, bus ticket just 2.6 eur per day,I recomend to take cityseeting for 15 eur where you have cruise included,trip to Gozo just 15 eur too.It's not so farway to Mediterian Aqua Park where you can have interactions with Dolhpis and 90 min away is Sycily good to take a day tour too.So we recomend our hotel because staff is very nice and waiter Eugenio and John are very professional.We recomend massage person too with Michelle Cordina in Canifor.We were happy there.

Not the best Hotel we've ever

Not the best Hotel we've ever stayed in, but value for money was absolutely second to none! Only a couple of minutes walk to the sea front and many bars and restaurants, which if you sift through them you will find a good few!

This is definitely not a four star abode.

We read all the reviews about this hotel prior to booking, and should really have taken more care when studying them. Unfortunately, the negative comments from previous travellers staying at this hotel were indeed similar to our own experiences.
If we had not prepay ed for this hotel, we would have found another within one day.

The canifor Hotel was a fantastic Hotel to stay in & in a fantastic location.I was alarmed to read reviews on this hotel saying how poor it was.It is clean,comortable & the staff are extremely friendly.it is in a perfect location to travel the Island or just stay & relax,will definately stay here again when i return to Malta.
