Stayed 10 years ago and the Topaz was a lovely hotel them
Now it’s become a dumping ground for rude, homophobic old people who are waiting for God so speak who stay in Malta over tge winter months.
The Topaz is now also used by people on cheap package holidays who can be antisocial, drunk and homophobic/ bigoted .
Breakfast is a further nightmare with old people sitting at tables for hours from 7 am making it difficult to get a place to sit and eat if your a disabled person wanting breakfast.
Room 1115 I stayed in was nice but dated and so spent a lot of time on a local Malta bus visiting Valletta and Mosta to avoid the hotel guests

Went for a few days room only as good selection of nearby cafes, supermarkets and restaurants plus good bus network across the island a short walk away. Supermarkets nearby too. Basic but clean twin bedded accommodation with kettle and cups (but bring or buy your own tea/coffee/sugar and water) as Maltese hotel tap water not the best for drinking and bottled water fairly cheap and plentiful. In past years, this hotel used to accommodate unruly foreign students but I understand this is no longer the norm so much quieter. All the usual hotel facilities and a good choice for anyone looking for cheap and cheerful off peak stay.

The hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. For older people like us in the 60's was a bit hard getting around because it's away from everything. The room was big and clean but kept getting issues with the bathroom everyday. We had water all over the floor and mentanance kept coming to fix it everyday. The pool was very nice and the breakfast was very good.

2 night stay at the topaz hotel

It was family friendly, pool was nice, but looks bigger in photos shown online.
The air conditioning was not up the standers and was very out dated, had to ask staff for a fan, that they did provide.
When asking staff for cutlery to eat something in my room a was told they didn’t have any, this was quite shocking!!
They also advertise they have free WiFi in your room but this doesn’t work!

The property needs some updating. Especially the AC it's too noisy Especially at night and it needs a little bit more cold air coming into the room. It's a little to warm for hot weather. Otherwise it's a good hotel.

Fabulous stay at a very friendly and welcoming hotel. Food and drink were very good. A bit cheaper if you go to the many restaurants very close by. Swimming pool was great, closes too early though at 18:00. Highly recommend this establishment to stay at.

No air con just a fan

Hotel is very basic and very worn out. Staff are friendly enough. Rooms are all very different to each other, some better than others. The air con does not work in any rooms though. It is a loud noisy air vent blowing air that is not cold. They must know about this though as we were given a fan straight away when complained. No one came to try to \"fix\" the problem even after mentioning it a few times. You would not want to stay here mid summer as you would not be able to sleep comfortably. Carpets in hallway are very worn. Swimming pool is a decent area though.

For the price a excellent hotel

I requested a ground floor as my legs sometimes give way which did not happen I was put on the second floor after a day a on arrival the lift broke which meant I had to walk further. Also I put do not disturb on my door yet the cleaners still tried to enter. Other than the above the staff were fantastic

Short break 3 nights. Good standard of fixtures and fittings with kettle, cups and mini fridge. Plenty of hot water and very warm and cosy heating. No complaints for what I paid.

Great staff and location, with a nice on site restaurant and Pizzeria. Outdoor and indoor pools were nice (indoor is very small ).
Rooms were dated but very comfortable beds, small balcony, and working air con.
Definitely pay extra for the breakfast, it is totally worth it with a huge selection of the buffet.
Only criticism was the elevators conking out regularly. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay at if you want great value for money.

Room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Check-in and checkout was quick and straightforward. Requests for room type were met. Large comfy bed, big balcony and ample desk and chair space. Great value.

The pool was nice, if a bit cold, and he tiles around the pool are quite slippery when wet so please be careful. The room was small but clean, however I could feel all of the springs in the mattress. The staff were very friendly during the check in and check out process.

Good value

I recently stayed at Topaz with my 9 year-old son. We extended our stay and I'm returning in a few weeks. The hotel is good value for money and Ideal base for exploring the Island. It's not in fantastic condition but is kept very clean and has all main room and hotel facilities. The hotel has a relaxed environment and staff met any requests, e.g fan, kettle etc speedily. The staff cleaning the rooms do an excellent job. The room air con can be a bit hit and miss but on this occasion the room air-con was great despite nights being 27. Pool is full-size with plenty of sun-beds.

We like it on the whole

The morning receptionist is a gem while the night receptionist has been a nightmare very impolite and doesn’t know what she is doing but on our last stay she improved a lot from a month ago. The food is good according to who is the restaurant manager we noticed, there is a shift with an eccellente manager and all the food comes up top notch and the service too and there is a shift where everything is below average. The rooms have always been clean and if there was any problem they would do their utmost to solve it. This rating is done not from a one time customer but we been booking there different times in the last 11 months sometimes even twice a month. Love the outdoor pool.

This is an older property with a convenient location close to public transport to any part of Malta. I don’t think any room has a sea view. The staff are lovely. Good management means that they offer complimentary coffee and croissant when you check out at 5.00. Room upgrades if they have space. I tried the dinner buffet once, it was close to closing time, the variety was good, the presentation a little jaded, and I didn’t appreciate the staff member talking in a loud voice on her favourite topic. The outdoor pool needs some cleaning. However it was winter when I stayed, so the indoor pool was good. The listing needs an upgrade, WiFi is now available everywhere. Overall a great place to stay!

Rooms....great value for what you pay
Food..... breakfast good value gives you a good start to your day but in the square you can get a breakfast for 2.95 hotel charge 7.00 euro rest oc food not very good try local restaurants better quality for the prices
Do avoid there coffee machine so nasty all coffees taste of a meaty flavouring.
Cleaners... do a great job and are so friendly and polite unlike rest of the staff bar staff and cafe staff so rude and not nice at all arent at all helpful
Reception ...are easy to deal with and quick with dealing any problems so efficient.
Altogether i believe you get what you pay for so good budget hotel tends to fill with many students and young people maybe thats why the bar music is so loud and goes on into early hours so try not to get a pool side room as you wont sleep well.

hotel needs to renovate some areas asap, we stayed in the block above reception which it seem to be oldest, our room was very big, good cleanliness but that's all, room and furniture looks from 70's,lack of decoration and pressure in the shower (maybe as we were on top floor).
breakfast coffee was the most horrible I ever tried,I am honest, maybe was too strong or too much but it was undrinkable no even with 4 sugars.
Staff in general couldn't be bother for anything, I asked for a pen at reception and the guy didn't even look around when he told me he didn't have one, at the restaurant I asked the hosting lady for 2 glasses to take to my room, she only offer plastic ones as she couldn't bother to get proper glasses from bar (luckily 1 guy asked me to follow him to the bar to get the glasses) day before to leave we asked for breakfast to go so we were told that coffee and croissants will be available, when we left at 5am, the receptionist told us that everything was finished and it won't be replaced so no breakfast for us, I could continue forever but that was the staff attitude in general. Overall mediocre hotel and poor customer service, however if you planing to explore Malta and manage to get a good price for the hotel as we did, then it is just ok, but do not expect much from Topaz hotel :-(

Been before, good base for going virtually anywhere on the island, just a steady walk to the bus stops, someone will always help with information etc etc. Black Friday helped too, half price open top bus tickets, fabulous, ps, NO time share people to harass you, i think they hide up in Quawra onwards,

The hotel has everything you'd need and the rooms are fine, ours overlooked the pool with a balcony and that was great and the air conditioning was brilliant. Location is ok and good for public transport links but there's not much nearby unless you do the short walk into buggiba square. All the facilities and finishes in the hotel are a bit tired, we had an issue with toilet not flushing properly but it was resolved quickly. Overall a good hotel for a budget friendly holiday, but if you're expecting luxury this isn't the place. I felt we got good value for money.

It was a last minute booking but very happy to have chosen the Topaz Hotel. I was quite nervous at first as to what i'd find but the first thing that struck me was the cleanliness especially the bathroom and the bed which i'm quite fussy about. The little i spoke with staff was at the reception on checking-in...very polite and helpful. Breakfast was lovely...large selection and so yummy :-) I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Not how it looks in the glossy photographs!

On the web site, the rooms look lovely, bright, clean and very well maintained. In reality, they are dark, the bed and mattress has seen better days. The shower leaks all over the bathroom floor. The toilet drips water all night, keeping you awake, and as if that wasn't enough, the workmen drilling constantly at 8.45 in the morning with no warning will soon wake you up!

The balcony door wouldn't lock, in fairness they did sort it out (well sort of), it meant that they secured it so it couldnt actually be opened... at all!

The italian restaurant is open, when they feel like it, even though there are posters all over the hotel that tell you it's open every evening.. it isnt!

Staff are friendly, but that.. is about all that is positive in this place. My advice is pay a higher price get comfort and security and a better place to sleep.

I must admit I had a wonderful room 2222 . Great pool view . The reception staff were the best in all my travels ,all over Europe. Friendly,funny and so helpful. It's only downside and this a minor downside. It's in a quiet area , no major pubs, not a lot of entertainment. Otherwise it was great ..

Wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Fridge leaked all over the floor when we first entered the room.
Wi-Fi was very slow and hardly every worked. I used my data most of the time as its free roaming but even the signal for this was slower unlike in other towns.
Air Con did not work and we was on the fifth floor so it was very hot. We complained 3 times about this and only on the third complaint did we receive one fan for the room.
Bed was not that comfortable. Pillows very lumpy.
Shower pressure was atrocious. I have thin hair and was struggling to wash the shampoo out.
They don't clean the floors daily so had to wear shoes in the room at times. Sand from beach from 2 days ago not swept.
Not much to do in the area. We spent everyday out of Bugibba.
About 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre. Not a nice area to walk at night. Men standing around in groups drinking on the corner of roads.
TV only had news channel in English and movies for men which had very old films. All the other stations that were supposed to be English according to their information were not.

Comfortable stay within budget

The stay was comfortable. The pool is nice and clean. The hotel is close to the busy area of St Paul's Bay, so you have an access to a lot of shops and restaurants. Public transport is available within walking distance. Oceanfront is within 500 meters from the hotel.

The staff was extremely kind and very helpful,

very good. I had a comfortable room with a big bathroom.
There are not many resturants around. The supermarket which hardly a minute walk is very handy, the tour desk people have lot of knowledge and they guided me well.
I have nothing negetive to say.

Hotel is ok. Cheap compare to other hotels. We had ants in our room and requested to be sprayed. Bathroom could do with upgrade as hand held shower has just about pressure to get a shower. Breakfast was ok, not much choice for the vegetarians. We booked hotel at the 11th hour so can't complain.

friendly staff the room was clean and kept that way daily. nice and close to other restaurants and bars,plenty of each and in walking distance.the hotel restaurant had good food also,and the bar staff really nice and friendly.we would stay here again and will tell our friends about this hotel.

Sort the reception staff out

This hotel is good value for money the rooms are grand the beds are regularly made and towels dropped in, the pool is good.
