Staff were rude on arrival. The photos and description on the Expedia website were misleading. No working wifi. The reception area was dirty. The room was dusty. Staff could not find remote for Air Conditioning, temperature was 35C degree; eventually managed to find it. TV did not have a remote so did not work. The toilet bowl moves every time you sit on it. It was so close to the wall you had to sit sideways. No toilet roll holder. No shelves in shower for soap or shower gel. Bathroom floor and shower looked like they were never cleaned; looked grimy. Room floor was never cleaned. Will never stay there again.

The room were very dusty and dirty.Hair and rubbish everywhere.They didn’t clean our room evening after requesting .Staff were very rude and threatening.Felt very unsafe .Never to go back in that place again.It was horrific !!!! They are just crooks will lie you in second, there is no parking find yourself, when i paid they gave me room underground that you can't breath. We reserved up floors before payment front dest saud yes for all questions after payment turned 360°. We all left hotel to different. These crooks doesn't refunded my money.

Stayed in the basement. Water damage on the baseboards. Bed was broken so it sloped on one side. Laundry service messed up some of my clothes. Front desk does a pretty good job. And room service comes about every other day.

This hotel wasnt my first choice but was given to me by expedia as the one i booked failed to meet the standards and was a catfish experience.
Thanks to expedia who managed to reserve me 4 rooms on a short notice in Istanbul. We were 12 family members with my father in wheelchair we relocated to this hotel at midnight and the reception named Rashad and Mehmet made our stay very pleasant, they were very helpful throughout our 4 nights stay, they were friendly and spoke fairly good english to which we managed to plan our visits via the hotel at a reasonable price.
About the rooms, they are fairly good, had a bosporus view with a small balcony, fridge freezer and tv and were cleaned daily.
The hotel is situated on a hillside so with my elderly parents it was a bit difficult to push around so we had to get taxi and minibus hire, this was arranged by hotel staff at a fair price (unlike some hotels).
There is breakfast arranged by hotel but its situated to the opposite building, not the best but it gets you fuelled up on a morning.
Overall I must say the whole experience of staying at this hotel was very good through the pleasantness of the staff like Rashad and Mehmet. Thanks

It seems there are two hotels combined into one, so I booked at the art city but was given a room next door.

The reception was unwilling to answer questions or offer support. It was a good thing the workers were helpful which some what compensates.

The room looked like it was finished by a handyman, not professional.

The price is good and the location is close to the historical attractions, unfortunately there are small dark roads to get there if walking back after a late night, migh not be the safest for some.

The only good thing is the location. The room was far away from pictures on internet (and we had a \"better\" room), the breakfast is in the hotel on the other side of the street and is terrible, the staff was almost unfriendly, in the room is an empty refirigerator, not \"mini bar\" .... and finally cleanliness....no comment. I don't recommend this hotel.

First thing first, the room that I booked wasn't available, they offer me a \"room\" that was an ex-garage transformed by them in room.

The second thing, I paid them 45 euro for private transfer to airport...Guess what, on the way to airport the driver stopped at a hotel and picked-up a couple that paid 20 euro for same trip, I tried to explain to the driver that I paid 45 euro for private transfer(\"I don't speak English\" was the driver answer)

The third thing, the bed linen was very dirty.

In the restaurants, the waiters are very greedy, if you don't pay attention, they will extra charge you.

Conclusion, I'll never travel again to Turkey

The staff were friendly and helpful, but for three reasons, I can't recommend this hotel. The worst was the poor housekeeping. I stayed a week, and the sheets were never changed once. Also, two glasses provided, that I used the first night, sat for six days in plain view with wine stains on the bottom before being changed. Coffee rings on the desk and bedside table were never cleaned. Also, the paper thin walls of the hotel are ideal if you enjoy listening to every word of the other squabbling, blabbering and yakking guests. One more thing to be aware of, that isn't the fault of the hotel, is that Istanbul is a very hilly city. A main commercial street, near many of the main attractions, where you will want to spend much of your time, is Divan Yolu. Be aware that what appears to be a short walk from your hotel to this street is in fact an exhausting short walk up very steeply inclined narrow cobblestone streets where you'll be dodging cars. Downhill it's uncomfortably steep too, especially if it's raining and the cobblestones are slippery. My advice is to spend a little more money if necessary and stay in a hotel closer to Divan Yolu. Having said that, I loved Turkey and highly recommend it to anyone who has not been there.

ART CITY HOTEL was very nice , very good Quality of standards, The Receptionist Rashad was very very helpful and very Supportive even he guide us accurately about the city Tour and he goes one step forward to Book our tours and also he gave us discount... VERY ECONOMICAL AND NICE STANDARD HOTEL .....THE LOCATION of the Hotel is in the main city centre of the Sultanhamet area all the other amenities were around...very near to public transport Trams and buses .....shopping area was also very near.......very comfortable place to live..very nice big rooms..sea view rooms.....the kindness and The Hospitality we received was very impressive very cherishing; hospitable reception;staff specially Mr Rashad gave us very v v i p treatment, very elegant meal was also offered. I would be very thankful to the staff.....
i would recommend this hotel to every on going to Istanbul turkey...

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We arrived and immediately the hotel manager, Reshad, was very welcoming and friendly and quickly accommodated us all. All the staff were very helpful with all our queries, helping us plan our excursions and recommending some fabulous places to eat. They went above and beyond and even helped to book surprise bday dinners. If you want to stick to a budget with a homely feel, this is the place for you. The hotel is in a central location; very close to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Top Kapi Palace, Ayasofya Hamam and many other highly recommended places to visit. Will definitely be returning Insha’Allah. ☺️☺️😀

When researching for hotel options, I always look into several things, from location, reviews, price, rating, etc. I selected Art City hotel because it had a very good price and the location is convenient, however, I was not quite certain about the amenities because there were mixed comments in the other reviews, so I decided to give it a chance.

Allow me to share my views on the place:

THE PLUS
- Great location: there are nice restaurants around the area, grocery shops, there's also coffee shops. Walking distance (5 min) you can get to the Blue mosque and from there Hagia Sofia and other places. Also, you can get the tram close to the hotel and move to other areas. The location is the highlight of this hotel.

- Good service: Rashad was the person in charge of the main counter, he was able to organize pick-up/drop-off at the airport. He was easy to communicate with and he gave us good advice of places to go and things to do. He was willing to help and showed a great attitude towards our group.

Price: it was good price for 3 rooms for 4 people, specially because of the location.

THE BAD
Amenities: No elevator, and being on the 4th floor made it hard to take the luggage. The walls were too thin so you can hear people in the other rooms.

I would say the hotel is good cause you get great location for low price, but the rooms are not too fancy if that is what you are looking for. However, the hotel crew will do their best to be nice to you.

The staff had overbooked the room I originally reserved. After discussing, with the staff, they allowed me to stay in a triple suite until the room I reserved became available. To me, this was good customer service. My stay was very nice. This is a very affordable hotel with decent accommodations. It is right by Saltanahmet Square. The only con about this hotel is that it located on a street that is at the base of a very steep hill. You will have to walk up this hill each day in order to reach the main street.

It was disappointing from the beginning, I reached Istanbul around 10:00AM and they did not allow me to take the room until 1:00PM which was OK. but then they told me I have to pay for the room as the credit card did not work. so i showed him the Expedia confirmation letter and that the full amount is already paid so he pretended to check again and then said: Oh yes it is OK you dont have to pay.
Then when I came back to get the room keys they told me that I have to pay an extra amount as I got the room in a low season price and now it is a higher price so I have to pay the difference. I did not accept to pay and told them that this why I have made my plans and reservation in advance, in order to get a better price than a last minute reservation. So he became really rude and started shouting and telling me Ok you can have a refund if you want and again I did not accept as it was a season and I will not find any other room easily. So again he started shouting and saying Ok but remember you got the room in a low price, and he shouted at my friend who was with me and told her you are not allowed to go to the room or visit your friend (which was OK if he said it nicely).
The room was also not clean and they removed the mini fridge from the room. Towels were dirty I had to buy mo own from there so I will not need to use theirs.

Very unkind treatment of guests in this hotel

Had a booking for 4 nights here. When we came there, there was no room available for us and the hotel employee moved us to an other hotel for the night. The room was dirty but they promised us that our room would be available at 11 am the next morning. So we went back to the hotel the next morning. Now they started saying that the room would be available at 1 pm. So we went outside, and when we came back to the hotel, the hotel manager said they dont have the room for us and that we can have our money back and leave or pay extra for an other room. We accepted for one night and payed the extra money but eventually we had to leave the hotel beacuse we didnt want to pay extra for the remaining nights and came on the streets of Istanbul and had to arrange an other hotel.

Broken beds. You do not feel safe at all. Do not go. I had to leave and go book another hotel and they wouldn't refund the money. No one goes to it. Most hotels were fully booked but this one was empty.

I stayed at art city hotel for 6 nights .
It was a very bad experience under all accounts .Very bad room service and some nights we didn't even get any room service .Bathroom left dirty and sink was leaking and many days there was not hot water .We received torn and old towels and bed covers .Service elevator was broken for days so we had to take stairs to our room .It was a back breaking experience .The guys there will not help you with anything but they are ready to tell how to help yourself ...When I asked the concierge about the bad service ,he said that there is no money ...just unbelievable excuse !!!
I regret staying at art city hotel but I have already paid for the stay and I was afraid that I might lose my money if I decided to cancel ...

First we got a sea view with broken doors in room ( restroom, entrance and the closet ) , second had to request them many time to change the room and finally changed it due to unable to lock the room from outside,

theft!! & cigarettes butts in left in my bags

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

Upon coming back our room for our second night our door was unlocked and when we went inside all of our belongings we had left sprawled over the room and bathroom were missing.

They called the maid and she told them the location of our things-- which were stuffed in a garbage bag in a hidden storage compartment under the mattress of the bed.

All of our bags had been gone through and many things stolen, including money. There were also wet cigarette butts stuffed into my toiletries bag.

When we reported the theft to the manager he argued with us and refused to refund our money or be helpful or apologetic in any way.

This was THE WORST hotel experience of my life. Please do not stay at this hotel! The same may happen to you!

Not to mention it was dirty and the toilet leaked all over the bathroom floor.

Amazing Staff!

My plane got in at 4 a.m. And I'd already been up almost two days. After wandering Sultanahmet for a few hours with my bags I decided to head down and ask if I could check in early.

God bless the staff, they gave me a room far in advance of the check in time and even offered me breakfast. This way I could get some desperately needed sleep before going out and hitting the sites.

The sea view rooms provide a beautiful, relaxing view of the ocean, and the beds are far more comfortable than most hotels in a similar price range.

I've been through Istanbul many times, and this is by far my favorite place to stay - despite the accommodations being modest, the people are nice and the rooms are clean.

I will be coming back again. Next time though I will try not to check in several hours early!

Hotel was clos as described but the budget rooms were worse then servant quaters. the location whilst close to the centre was not easily acessible, especially for lone female customers and rosute was either through a gfave yard or a dark narrow lane. if arriving late at night on your own, quite scary. There was shortgae of hot water and despite repeated requests was told sorry out of hot water. this meant hat relaxing after a hard walking out was not available and the ehating didn't work most days meant it was a misearable night at times. the views from teh website was exciting nut in reality, looke douton to a narrow dark labe, especially at nights. Whilst the breakfast was good, it was in teh basement with no natural light and quite claustrophobic. Hotel staff were unfriednly and a loe female was quite uncomfortabel approaching staff for asssitance. Although Centfral, location was poor, amenities very poor, poorly maintained, budget/ economy rooms.
Not very accessible,lots of hills to climb and narrow lanes to get to hotel.

The hotel staff was exceptional. Very friendly and helpful. They help book, make changes, even cancel tours... all with smile on their faces. On my last day, I missed Airport Shuttle by few mins, they called the service and made sure I get on it within timely manner.

A very small thing, my room had only one pillow... which I found a bit unusual, Hah.

Close to everything, but hard to find

Booked as a mystery hotel. Taxi driver could not find the place even with assistance. I was charged extra as economy rooms were not available, but I did check in at 7am, so take the extra payment as an extra day. The range of food for breakfast is pretty amazing, but the room is too small for all guests to eat at the same time. I had a double bed which meant that it was really hard to find somewhere for my suitcase. Nothing really bad, but nothing really great.

Art City is perfectly located in Sultan Ahmet for sightseeing, shopping, eating and enjoying. It is 5 minutes by foot from Divan Yolu, one of the main tram lines, and within quick and easy access to everything you will want and need in Istanbul. The hotel itself is quaint, cozy and charming with excellent, courteous and attentive staff. I am a frequent visitor to Istanbul and highly recommend this hotel as one of the best I have experienced. In particular, the breakfast buffet is at the top of the list of perks of Art City. There was a wide variety of foods far beyond the regular offerings - fresh salads, breads and pastries, breakfast items, fruit and vegetables and, of course, the traditional Turkish breakfast items (cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, Turkish cheeses and simit sesame bread). My room was small and spartan but perfect for my visit as I only needed a place to sleep, shower and have breakfast before leaving for the day. Overall, an excellent choice for my last visit.

OK Value Hotel

This hotel is located in the Sultanahmet area, so it's a short walk to a lot of the major tourist sites. However, the hotel can be hard to find at night, so either bring a detailed map / solid GPS with you or consider using their shuttle service if you have a late check-in. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast buffet was sufficient to get a good meal and there is a nice eating area if you take the stairs up to the terrace. The hotel is inside two old adjacent buildings and I had to wind up one set of stairs, cross to the other building and then go down two stairs to find my room, so I even got lost inside my hotel during my first day. My only real complaint is that the door was not soundproofed at all, so I could hear everything going on outside, which included seagulls screeching around 2am every night. Recommended for budget travelers who want a cheap hotel right in the Sultanahmet area.

Not recomended , their are many hotel are much better than art city do not reserve budget room ! It is under ground and when you complain they will upgrade you and charge you extra money ! Which you can find much better in other hotel

one step above a hostel, if that...

the location and staff are probably the best quality of the \"boutique\" hotel... The Guys working at the front desk were very helpful and very nice. I found my room in the Tulip hotel side to be decent size, clean, and had only the basic necessities. There was a refrigerator, but I couldn't get it to work correctly. The TV only had one local channel that worked. No coffee or tea in the room, no way to boil hot water. Breakfast was served from 0800-1030, therefore, one had to wait until then for coffee. Also, the city was doing construction on the metro and many of the hotels had no running water for about 24 hours. 25 gallon bottles were left in each room; but the problem was getting it open and then trying to lift to use.. the gesture was very nice, but unhelpful for a small single woman. I'm sorry to say that I do not recommend this hotel for the price.

Art City Hotel Istanbul - Boutique Class

The location of the hotel was great. The staff was professional and accommodating. We booked a standard room that was supposed to be a queen bed, but was given a double bed. Upon asking for another room, the staff informed me that they were completely booked. The double bed was uncomfortable. The room's shower head was broke during our stay.

Hotel with walking distance to everything

Hotel is small but it's good enough to for me and my husband. It is clean, bed is good to get a good night's rest from all the walking we did in the city - leave early morning, come back at 4pm and go out again for more viewing of the sites at night and end the day with dinner. The staffs are very helpful and friendly. Best of all is the full breakfast included with your room rate.

if you don't mind the climb, it's fine

only reservation is location: it is a good 250-meter steep climb to the nearest eateries, and another 150 to the tram stop. some of the rooms are not accessible by elevator: 28 or more stairs each way is required. other than that, the place, while a bit in need of an upgrading, is fine.

Won't book again! October 2015

Won't be booking this hotel again! When we arrived, the hotel was fully booked EVEN THOUGH we had a booking all paid for. They put us up at a neighbor hotel (Stone hotel) which was a really nice hotel (recommend that one) for one night, then back to the Art City hotel for 2 nights.
There was no water AT ALL saturday till sunday (not even in the toilet)! We got a room in the basement, loads of stairs to get there and no elevator!
Breakfast is alright.
Service is debateable.
Neighborhood is great, it only took 5 minutes to walk to the Blue mosque and tram, 20 minutes walk to Grand Bazaar and 30 minutes walk to the bridge/waterfront.

I travel all over the world and I checked into this small room smallest I have ever seen,the lamp the only source of light was hanging from the wall.paint of the walls coming off too.i stayed 3 nights in a foreign country with no tv working.2 days the elevator not working so had to pick my luggage to the 3rd floor and back.they did not change my room also inspire of all this.breakfast was 5 floors down and had to walk 5 floors up again to the room.i never review hotels but this one I had to.the worst ever stay in my life time.

Location Excellent. Breakfast tops. Staff fabulous

Very generous and helpful staff, gave me some Turkish lessons as well. Breakfast was excellent in all aspects and there was always a good variety and always fresh. Ocean view room was good value and looked beautiful when i walked in. Had some hot water issues that were fixed straight away. Location spot on.

Don't worth the price.

We spent one night there.

The location is bad - although it looks close to the Blue Mosque, it's not really the case.
Hotel amenities is almost useless - none of them functions well.

Hotel uses a extremely unreasonable exchange rate when you pay in turkish lira instead of euro.

Never again!

I will never stay here again! Room condition was terrible - shower backed up and even though I complained it was never fixed. Two days no towels were left in my room. Floors not swept. They were supposed to call the airport shuttle for us, but they didn,t do it until we were waiting for it to arrive. The hotel does not look like the internet pictures.

Don't stay here!

I will never stay here again. For two days no towels were left in my room, the shower did not drain,so I showered standing in dirty water and there was no shower head. Even though I reported these things, nothing changed until a day before we checked out. When we asked them to reserve the airport shuttle we were assured it was done, but that morning there was no shuttle. Called again and it arrived late. This hotel looks great on the Internet but is not worth the money.

Close to perfect.

The staff were exceptional: kind, helpful & spoke excellent English. The room was very small, and rather hot as the AC kept switching itself off. It was great to have a balcony, especially as it overlooked the water. The location was ideal, quiet, yet 10 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque (town center). The breakfast served at the hotel was amazing, a huge selection and more than enough to see you through to dinner time. If the room had been slightly larger and the AC behaved it would have been perfect.

Two nights in Istanbul

A good little hotel, great value when you consider how close it is to the principal historic zone (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sogia, Topkapi Palace)...just a few minutes walk. Also close to the tram stations at Cemberlitas and Sultanahmet, useful for further exploration. I took a room with a seaview, and it was worth it to look out at the shipping on the Sea of Marmaris. The hotel is in an old building and is not particularly new or stylish, but I was content with the cleanliness of the room and my bed was comfortable. The bathroom also was perfectly clean with a good shower and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was plentiful and good, but I was surprised that the only coffee on offer was instant. There are restaurants in the area offering lunch and dinner. There is an airport shuttle bus that I took when leaving, they charge 5€ from the hotel to the airport.

Friendly staff, Good Location, Value for money

Art City Hotel was one of the cheapest, and most highly rated hotels in the Sultanahmet district in old city, Istanbul, and thats why we chose to stay for 5 days. It is only 5 mins walk from the Sultanahmet squaure/blue mosque/Hagia Sophia Area.
Its located in a traditional part with narrow hilly streets and you can also find centuries old wooden houses here! If you have small kids, the hill climb with baby strollers might be a bit of an exercise...

The hotel staff was fantastic, particularly the kitchen staff, and the guys at the front desk were very friendly.
They cleaned room everyday, which was generally neat, but quite small. So if you're looking for large rooms, choose a 4 star hotel.
The service wasnt short of 5 star though here! A couple of young employees were always ready to help and even made Turkish coffee for us daily on the roof, where you could have a fantastic view of the old city and the sea of Marmara.

Breakfast was the same everyday, which can become boring if you are staying for long, but its still good enough to start a long day (since we only came back to the hotel to sleep in the night after exploring a new part of Istanbul each day) but their staff was very very friendly!
There might be some drain problem with the sink or shower area, but the guys were there instantly to fix it.

You can also find decent restaurants in the area...alot of tourists live in this area.

Great Hotel!

I'm extremely satisfied with my stay at this hotel. ALL of the staff were so incredibly nice and helpful that I felt like giving them hugs when it was time to leave. The location is perfect for tourists. Close to all major tourist sites such as the popular museums,Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, etc. Restaurants are all over the neighborhood too. The room was clean, updated, and very nice. Large selection at breakfast every morning and there's even an area to sit and have breakfast in the shade outside on the terrace.
Very well run hotel. Was also very affordable! Totally recommend this place!

not so good

I've gone there with my mom from the first day I recieved when I got into the room I found it without enough light and kinda depressing for me I felt the blanket dirty even though I didn't find any darkness. At the last day when we saw the woman that came for making rooms we saw that she puts the blankets on the ground of outside so I found out that why I did feel like that. The breakfast contained variety of things I didn't like the sussages type it reminded me a low quality meat product but every other thing was great !!! The staffs were really helpful! The place was hard to find for the first time!!
