We chose this hotel for its excellent location and value, and it exceeded our expectations! The check-in process was quick and seamless. The staff was incredibly welcoming, even walking us to our room, which was spacious, spotless, and delightfully cozy.

What makes this place valuable is its unbeatable proximity to iconic landmarks like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, as well as a variety of fantastic restaurants—all just a short walk away.

The apartment was spacious, clean and located next to many shops and restaurants. It was a short walk to the major historic sites. There is easy access to taxis that line up a short distance from the apartment. This was really convenient when we took trips to the Asian side. We really enjoyed our stay in the apartment and in Turkey.

We went into this property and were shocked that there is no elevator in the building our room is in. (They have a few buildings) So our luggage has to be carried on many flights of stairs. This was very hard. My dad has a knee problem so having to go up the stairs for a few days and go down was very challenging.

There was one gentleman I think he was the manager he was very polite and helpful.

Two other front desk agents I had a bad experience with. One of their name was Jacob, the others name I don’t remember.

The hotels location is outstanding though.

The room was pretty spacious. The toilet was very uncomfortable though

The property itself wasn’t a problem. Staff were good too. The boss was extremely helpful.
Expedia is at fault as they didn’t put the correct information in the website. The Annex apartment was on a separate building which had 3 flights of circular stairs. My 74 year old mother was supposed to stay in the annex with me. Which she couldn’t as there was no way she could’ve climbed the steps. We were on the 3rd floor.
When I spoke to the staff they said they couldn’t do anything.
As it happened my sister booked a room which was in the main building which had a lift so my mother stayed with her. If my sis hadn’t booked a room in the main building, this holiday would have been a disaster.
I would like Expedia to call me to discuss this further as I am very unhappy with the information that was provided.

No elevator in secondary building. Room was on the 2nd floor not on ground floor. Stairs are too steep. Wife was handicap and management was rude and unhelpful. No refund or compensation was given from the hotel. Website is misleading and doesn't tell us that the annex rooms with 2 bedrooms doesn't come with elevator. So some with a handicap person and kids has to suffer. Would not recommend to anyone visiting instanbul.

Sultan House Hotel Istanbul

Hotel is in a prime location and this is the only thing positive about it. The owners of the hotel were very rude to begin with as they were disputing that we even had a reservation! Eventually 5 of us were shifted to a double room apartment which was situated on a fourth floor in a different site to the main building which had no lift even though we had booked 3 standard rooms with Expedia. We saw a lot of this where families were given/offered alternative rooms to the ones they had already booked. The room that my children were given on the first night was infested with ants and flies. The cleanliness I would rate this at 2/10, the only two things that we saw that we had were clean towels and the bathroom was given a wipe down. Our rooms were not hoovered once in the 8 days we were there. The bed sheets were only changed once on request.The breakfast/dining area is very small and the picture of this and the lobby can be misleading. The interior of the hotel is very old and shabby.
The breakfast is disappointing and there were/are flies everywhere. The food was not covered and that meant we had to make do with eating toast, as this was in a bread basket with a lid. Is this hotel a 3.5 star? I don't think so!
We love Istanbul and will be visiting this wonderful city again, but we will never book a family run hotel ever again because this experience has let us down and we would advise anyone thinking of booking with this hotel to do their homework.

Overrated hotel best avoided

This hotel had rave reviews which is why we booked it via Expedia. However for us it was a major disappointment. I have stayed in quite a few different hotels in Turkey but this must be the worst. We stayed in the annexe building of the hotel. It has no lift but has steep winding stairs which are dangerous and an ordeal to use especially for the elderly, young or disabled. The rooms are tired looking and in need of decoration. Curtains did not close properly which meant light entring the rooms first thing in the morning. Rooms are also noisy due to a busy road on the side. There is no phone in the rooms and you feel disconnected from the main hotel which is a street away. Every time you need anything you have to go down those terrible stairs and walk to another street. Breakfast was not included for those staying in the annexe building. On the last day we were due to leave at 2pm but were asked to vacate our room at 12pm ie the checkout time. I have stayed in many hotels where the management were kind enough to let you remain for an extra 2 hours considering you have been staying in the hotel for last 7 days but not this place. I really cannot recommend this hotel.

The sea front us about 10 mins walking distance.

Staff are very helpful and always on standby, likewise the hotel has all the adequate facilities required for a comfortable stay.

I would definitely recommend Sultan House as we had a great time staying g there.

Terrible place. No elevator, so climbing 4 flights of stairs every day with a baby and a stroller was quite the challenge. The pictures on hotels.com we're not accurate representation of what the actual room looked like and the worst part was that nasty public bathroom smell that we had to endure the entire stay. I wanted to check out the moment I saw the room but unfortunately the reservation was not changeable. I stayed another day in a different hotel that was pleasantly clean with great location and service and paid the same amount for that hotel that I did for the sorry excuse of a hotel that is Sultan house. And I don't know who reviewed this hotel befor me but it must have been hotel employees cos the reviews were too good for this place and not accurate at all

My wife, daughter and I spent a wonderful 3-night stay at Sultan House Hotel with its very friendly staff. The location is excellent for exploring old Istanbul since the hotel is just off the hippodrome square and a short walk to the Sultanahmet tram station. We also enjoyed the free breakfast and love the hot chocolate. Highly recommended.

Was very pleased with this hotel, the manager upgraded us for free and gave us an amazing room with views of the blue mosque and Bosporus. The view was 5 star no doubt. For the money that we paid we couldn't have asked for more really.

Excellent location, right next to the Blue Mosque and could clearly hear the call to prayer.
We had the family room which is on the corner of the ground floor of the building opposite. Two large rooms - double bed in one 2 singles TV, kitchen sink, units and fridge, table and 4 chairs in other. Shower room. Very clean, fresh towels daily.
It is a side street but there's a college at the end of the road so occasionally very noisy. The passing cars sounded as though they were next to the bed! Not many of them so no great issue.
Friendly and very helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. Manager gave advice about travelling around Istanbul, what we could see and where to eat, all good recommendations.
Breakfast - lots of it, fresh bread, yoghurt and fruits, eggs, sausage - usual fare but well presented and hot.
Would definitely stay again and recommend.

Recently stayed in this hotel.
Pros: We received excellent service and attention. Owner made us feel as if we were at home. He helped arrange shuttle transfer to airport and provided orientation on how to get around base on our interest. The location is incredibly close to major sights. Price affordable. Wifi connection was great! Free Breakfast was adequate.

Con: although the rooms were cleaned we stayed in the basement and my mom and I got beaten really bad not sure by what? We looked for possible bedbugs but unsure of what it could have been. We had difficulty sleeping specially first night :( this is our only big negative.

The location is great, just around the corner from the Blue Mosque. The staff was wonderful; we were lost and they came out to look for us. The room was amazing! Spacious and well decorated, which even included personal touches. They offered buffet style breakfast and even though we did not eat there it looked decent. We were very pleased with everything. We stayed as a group of friends in the annex apartments, this was the perfect option for us as we required a bit more space. There are amazing views directly over to the Blue Mosque which was a nice surprise! The location is fantastic, as it is a short walk away from many of the historic sights; Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Grand Bazar, Topkapi Palace etc.

The staff at the hotel were always available with great advice and directions - they really could not have been any more helpful if they tried!

The location was perfect. Right in the middle of everything, but on a quiet street. the staff were outstanding! The hotel itself could use some updating. The penthouse family room has slanted ceilings that make it seem very tight and cramped. no real views or light from the window either. If you are a family of 4 this is a good option, but only for a few nights.

We stayed in the annex apartments. Like many places in turkey there were narrow wedge shaped stairs and no elevator. However, the staff carried our luggage up for us. Still, this is not a place for those that aren't physically fit. But even going to this area of Istanbul is a lot of walking anyhow. The rooms were spacious, the view was great. It was centrally located and right in front of the Blue Mosque. We walked 15 minutes to the Grand Bazaar. It was about 10 minutes walk to Topkapi Palace.

This is a very nice basic hotel. We chose the 2 room apartment on the 3rd floor without lift. The climb was worth it. The view from the room was amazing. You can see the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia from the room. The two rooms were nice, clean and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable.There was only one bathroom.

The best part was the staff. They al were excellent and made sure our stay was comfortable.

Arrived to find our room, that I had confirmed twice directly with the hotel, had been double booked, and we had been moved to a room directly off the reception area and breakfast room, so with no privacy, although was a standard room and not economy that I had booked, at no extra charge. We stayed in there one night and were moved the next day, again to a standard not economy room. I felt the price I paid was high for a standard room, let alone economy. Although the rooms were clean, they are quite small, and don't have a chair, or other simple things, like a bin. Staff overall were very friendly and helpful, but they charged me for my extra guest for 5 nights (which I had booked) when they only stayed for 4 nights, despite them being made aware of this the day before I checked out, when they left. I was told not enough notice was given and I felt this to be unfair. Also, staff insisted that the maximum transfer time to airport was 45 mins, when I booked their shuttle bus, and it took 1 hour 15 mins, so I had a rush at the airport, so bear this is mind as queues for security and passport control at Attaturk can be very long! Although overall I felt it was expensive for what it was, this is a nice hotel, in a great area just off the Hippodrome and mins from the Blue Mosque.

We (me, my wife, my mother-in-law, and my niece) stayed at the Sultan House Hotel last summer. My wife and I have been to Turkey multiple times, but this was the first trip for mom and our niece. The location could not be better (for what we wanted to do - sightseeing) and the staff was extremely attentive and helpful. We stayed in one of the \"Annex Apartments\" that had two bedrooms and on bathroom. In retrospect, given that you had to walk through one room to get to the next (i.e. privacy was an issue), we would have chosen to stay in two separate rooms. However, this was a small \"inconvenience\" to deal with for all of the positives about the hotel and staff. You're not getting a 5-star hotel, but you are getting a clean, comfortable place to stay - run by extremely helpful/courteous staff.

There were traces of mold greenish ceiling. we were afraid for our health and asked to change rooms. the manager of the hotel agreed to move us to the condition of paying an extra $ 30 per night. we agreed, we had no choice. a very very bad experience ... really desapointed :(

Nice, small hotel in a good location to visit all the major sites in the old city. Breakfast was fine. Major drawback is no computer for you to secure any boarding passes. The evening staff person insisted on doing this on his computer and working him through the process was difficult. If you are comfortable with getting you boarding passes on your cell phone, this would not be a problem. They organized a transfer van trip for my flight out of the airport with little problem.

We stayed at the Sultan House for seven nights and found it a perfect jumping off spot for everything we wanted to see. It is an easy walk to the tram if you want to leave the area (the old city) and is also an easy walk to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, the Grand Bazaar, and the waterfront. The front desk staff and the young helpers were always helpful and pleasant. Be careful upon arrival as taxi drivers have a hard time finding it. Our driver took us to Sultan Hotel instead of Sultan House, and our airport shuttle driver couldn't find it either.

A great place for your group to stay, on the cheap

It was a great place for our group of 20 people to stay (including my family with 4 kids). It has an apartment annex, great for families or multiple people. We stayed in the Sultan House on an extended layover and it was very comfortable, but don't expect the ritz. The staff was very friendly and accommodating plus could communicate well in English. You can't beat the location, a 1 minute walk to the Blue Mosque. Facilities were dated but very clean and adequate. A great place to visit as long as you don't have a bunch of primadonnas.

Excellent location and staff

The best part was the location. The blue mosque was extremely close by as well as some of the other major tourist places. The staff was excellent. The only bad thing was that the ceilings were sloped so that one side was really low. Had to be very careful not to hit our heads.

Overall reasonable but no tea/Coffee in the room

Staff were helpful but one receptionist was rude .
Area for breakfast was very small and compact . Bathroom was very small .

We were assigned a room in the annex. It was fine, on the second floor (so up three flights of circular stairs.) No elevator, so we left our large suitcases in the hotel's lobby. (They were there the next morning). The location was wonderful, just steps away for the Blue Mosque, we could see it and hear it. Very clean room, very nice staff. I would recommend this establishment without qualms.

We stayed in the annex apartment not in the main sultan house. We booked an \"apartment\". That is not what we got. There was not a cooker, a microwave or even cutlery. We were given a kettle but no cups. The hotel was clean and the service was good. The location was most excellent and was a 2 minute work from the blue mosque and main hipodrom area. Breakfast was very bland with no choice so I recommend not getting breakfast. The shower was very unpleasant and small, the hair dryer did not even work. The room was well sized but was extremely hot as the air condition did not work and one room did not even have air conditioning.

Our room was a very spacious 2 room apartment with a view of the blue mosque. Location was perfect., with many top tourist sites within walking distance. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We would definitely return.

Excellent quality budget hotel - good value

You get what you pay for - this is a small, friendly, family run guest-house type hotel with only 10 bedrooms. Two are in the basement with little or no windows, but everything is very clean and they supply toiletries etc. Other rooms are light and airy. The best thing about this hotel is the location - perfect - just a few yards from the hippodrome and the Blue Mosque. Staff are very helpful and courteous. We had a problem on arrival with the type of room booked versus what was offered, but between Expedia and the hotel we sorted out the misunderstanding and everyone was happy. They provide a buffet continental style breakfast in the small reception area which is lovely and there is complimentary tea/coffee all day.

Clean, friendly, small hotel, close to everything

Typical small hotel in good location about 100 meters from Sultanahmet Square the centre point of activity. Very friendly and helpful staff. Make sure though you stipulate you don't want one of the Basement rooms, they are cheaper but have no windows

fantastic location for sightseeing

We were made very welcome from the time we entered the hotel. You are offered tea, coffee the minute you walked in. To see all the sights, just come out of the hotel, turn left and the Blue Mosque is 100mtrs away. The Grand bazarr(?) is about a 15 minute pleasant walk away. T he metro system is second to none and we used it quite a lot. Shopping wise, have a good haggle with the seller.Overall a great holiday.

Excellent Accommodation

Very nice hotel, excellent location to all amenities (Blue Mosque & Grand Bazaar on the door step), room we stayed in was excellent and large (501)- better to pay the little extra as basement rooms can be a little small. Staff very friendly and helpful - spoke very good english and happy to help with taxis - routes and tours. Breakfast buffet very good and varied - also makes other dishes on request such as fresh omelettes. Well worth the trip

Sultan House Hotel

Great location. Room pretty small and basic considering this was a a room we paid an upgrade to have. But it was clean and tidy and perfectly comfortable. Breakfast was nice and I think the best thing about this hotel was that the staff were really lovely - so helpful and really nice. Yes, we would recommend staying at this Hotel.

fantastic hotel for family

for me and family the hotel plays a major part in a holiday experience.
certianly sultan house was among the best.
it was more of a home then a hotel exoerience
the rooms were idealy sized and furnished.
the beds werr among the mist comfertable i have slept in.
the rooms were daily cleaned nd tiwels changed.
yunus nd freinds in reception wer more then freindly and went
out if there way to make our stay memorable.
nothing was too much for them.even asking for iron daily was met with a smile
very idealy located just minute away from blue mosque nd hagia sofia.
would recomend this hotel to all.

If location is your top priority, then the Sultan House is for you. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. Our room (in the annex up the street) was dingy, the cleaning staff never came to our room one day and the breakfast was mediocre. Overall: so-so.

A little gem

Ok the hotel isn't on the same scale as the larger more expensive accomodation in the area but it is not shy on its facilities, free wi-fi always a big plus these days, a comfortable firm bed with ensuite facilities - shower only no bath. TV in the room, providing local TV and a few international channels including BBC World News. Breakfast is a buffet help yourself. The staff are helpful and on hand 24 hours should you have any queries.
The hotel is situated five minutes walk from the \"Blue Mosque\" door to door. The Hagia Sophia is ten minutes walk and the Grand Bazaar is approximately 20 minutes walk if you follow the tourist route shorter if you're prepared to go via the back streets.
All in all the hotel is well situated for those on a short break with the main attractions on your door step

Great location

The location is the greatest selling point of this hotel, near to various touristy sites in the old town, ie. Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia etc. We got the annex apartment, which is spacious and fairly safe, with a great view on the top terrace - The terrace is pretty basic, but other buildings surrounding us contain restaurants etc which looks like you have to pay for the privilege. The apartment itself is on a different block from the main hotel so you dont even see the staff / reception although they are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the maintenance let us down, few things need fixing (eg. aircon control and wet bathroom) was not resolved for the whole week we were there which is rather disappointing, which would otherwise be great.
