A wonderful small resort on the beach. Service was impeccable and the restaurant food was excellent. The beach is really nice and there are plenty of lounge chairs for guests. The pool is small but lovely. On the whole, understated but luxurious. Highly recommended for those looking for a quieter beach experience.

Beautiful hotel in a great location right on the beach. As with almost all hotels in CR, the pool is not heated and too cold even in hot weather but the proximity to the beach and ocean makes up for it. The rooms are clean, spacious and well maintained. Definitely request an upstairs room otherwise you need to keep the curtains drawn the entire time. Restaurant is high on price and moderate in quality but fine for post-beach snacks.

We also did the hotel-provided boat and snorkel sunset trip which was well worth it.

Spacious suites, lush landscape, and immediate beach access. Two levels of dining (main restaurant & upstairs bar area) is convenient. Food at both is very good. Housekeeping staff very thorough, but restaurant staff is inconsistent. Some were friendly and attentive while others were not engaged, which is surprising for a resort at this level.

This is a lovely, smaller hotel right on Playa Hermosa. The staff is welcoming and accommodating at all levels, from parking attendants to maintenance to cleaners to front desk. Our suite was luxurious and private and very comfortable. Highly recommend the spa services. Had one of the most relaxing massages. While the food was decent at the restaurant and bar at the hotel, it was overpriced. We ate at each place once and then went elsewhere.

Beach chairs always available and if they werent they would find you some and add cushions. So many other resteraunts near by within walking distance on the beach or on the street. We had very good communication pre check in. The front desk was responsive and supportive when there was an issue with my credit card. Sebastian at the front desk was great.
We also enjoyed Fabio, our server in the restaurant. Very personable and helped us with our Spanish.

This hotel has a fabulous beachfront location, just steps from the ocean. The beach has gentle waves that are ideal for little ones. The coastal forest setting gives the property a unique, peaceful atmosphere that helps you feel truly disconnected from the surrounding town.

The rooms are nice and clean, the food is good, and the staff is friendly and helpful especially Jonathan at the restaurant.

Vacation in a jungle tree house!! This hotel is so unique and built into and around the trees at the edge of the jungle. The hotel is right on the beach, but if you turn to look back when you are in the water, the hotel is not visible! The service team is outstanding and the food was fine (we added short uber trip to Del Coco beach for more restaurant options). Beautiful quiet beach with warm water and fun jungle pool with hot tub. Loved it!

Beautiful property. Very clean, quiet, peaceful. Just sitting in the room felt like a holiday itself! Staff were attentive and courteous. Food at the hotel restaurant was very good. We saw monkeys, iguanas, and raccoons at the pool. Beach is truly beautiful. Very calm, minimal waves. This is my perfect type of beach. My young teens, however, said that the beach was \"too boring\" after having been at some beaches with more waves/surf. This was our last stop on our way home after 2 weeks spent checking out different areas in Costa Rica.

Everything stood out for me: All staff were incredibly happy and helpful. The property is a boutique hotel located on Playa Hermosa beach (perfect waves for kids without getting thrashed around). The rooms are meticulously kept, the pool is surrounded by lush tropical greenery with a troop of howler monkeys that call it home. This property is also perfect for those who require a levelled hotel with no inclines. It took 10 seconds to the pool, 10 seconds to reception & restaurant, and 10 seconds to the beach. This property is best for those looking to unwind and relax, even with kids. There is no swim up bar so it’s not suited for parties. The staff were happy to deliver food and drinks no matter where we were located. An absolute gem!

Pictures dont do this place justice. Everyone was super professional and kind. The beach view room was amazing. There was a family of monkeys hanging out, and an iguana on a limb that was literally the size of a komodo dragon, no joke! Walking distance to many other beachside bars. At night the beach has thousands of hermit crabs so walk light. Will stay here again, no disappointments.

Beautiful property right on Playa Hermosa. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean, spacious and a lovely view of the greenery surrounding the hotel and pool. There was some construction noise but we were there during the off season so not surprising. The hot tub was cool one evening but much warmer another. The area felt safe and calm. Expedia offered a 20% discount on a tour but the hotel only offered it for kayak/paddleboard rentals, a bit disappointing but the stay was otherwise fantastic. I would definitely return!

Our stay at Hotel Bosque del Mar was pure relaxation from start to finish. The grounds and facilities are spotless, surrounded by lush tropical greenery that makes you feel completely immersed in nature. Everything — from the rooms to the pool area — was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained.

The staff were incredible: friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a genuine smile. They made us feel welcome the moment we arrived and added such a personal touch to our stay.

We especially loved spending time in the pool and hot tub, which were both pristine and perfectly placed for soaking up the peaceful surroundings. Each morning, we woke to the sounds of howler monkeys echoing through the trees — an unforgettable reminder that we were in the heart of Costa Rica.

Crabs on the floor tainted our stay

We greatly appreciate the staff allowing us to check in early and getting us our room early. This was a big highlight of our stay and we are grateful. We were able to enjoy the beach and pool while waiting for our room!

We unfortunately had 4 crabs in our room. We made sure doors were sealed, curtains etc were sealed off so I’m not sure how they got into the room or where they were coming from. It was hard to fall back asleep after encountering two of them in the middle of the night in the living/bathroom area after we checked for certain at bedtime that there were no more in the room. It also made us uncomfortable having our little one in the baby crib so close to the floor, and I didn’t sleep well as I kept checking for them (and kept finding more). Keep your luggage and items off the floor.

The hotel is steps to the beach and the beach has very small waves and is good for little ones. Also has amazing sunsets. Many locals came here (their entrance is about 20m south), so you can visit with locals who come to this beach to relax and play their music. There were many vendors walking by trying to sell stuff which was a nuisance after a while.

Noise: we were a lower room and the sound from above us was noticed, and specifically when people were walking up the stairs it sounded like very loud thunder so wanted to mention that if anybody is sensitive to noise.

Also the floor to ceiling windows offered little privacy, so we had to keep our curtains closed the whole time.

We had the oceanfront room and it was great. Very spacious with a separate room with sofa bed. The room was large with a huge balcony. There was a very comfortable double lounger on the balcony which was great for lounging and enjoying the view through the trees and listening to the surf. The balcony could have used an additional sitting area with small table. The bathroom can be fully opened with a curtain on the outside and bathtub essentially outside on the deck. Kind of cool but also a bit inconvenient to have to close the curtain on the outside for bathroom privacy. We did try the tub open to the outside which was nice but not really private. The hotel grounds are small so no opportunity to enjoy resort type grounds. The beach was nice. It’s a mile long so you can walk for quite a while. There were loungers always available and plenty of trees to provide shade. There are a few beach vendors who will approach you but most are polite and accept a no gracias and move on. There are also people selling tours but we didn’t partake in any. The restaurant was good but a bit expensive. It’s open air so flys were a nuisance at times. We saw monkeys on 4 occasions over 4 days which was a treat. There were also some iguanas and a nice bird that visits the restaurant. We only visited the bar once on happy hour and had a good piña colada. Overall a good stay but a little on the expensive side. We stayed in a regular room the last night which was just average, recommend the oceanfront.

Very helpful staff. Absolutely beautiful grounds and building among the nature! Great location, easy parking, secure. Really enjoyed our stay.

Couple notes for them to consider: They could do a better job at keeping the hawkers from harassing guests at the beach and every time coming/going between hotel and the beach. They camped out and would often bother. Also the restaurant options and pricing could use a re-work, though I'm sure the food was good. There was no mattress in the pull-out sofa, and despite multiple attempts it just kept getting replaced with regular mattresses (so you couldn't fold up the couch). I saw staff carrying around fold-out couch mattresses outside, so they were around, dunno why it was such a challenge.

Bryan did a great job as my concierge. Was only at the hotel for two nights. Staff is extremely friendly and the location is safe. My only negative is I wish my room was facing the ocean, I would prefer blinds instead of the curtains they had. They are either all open or all closed no middle option. People could see right into my room. The restaurant at the resort is very nice and the food is fresh and tasty. However unfortunately there were cockroaches on the floor of the restaurant when I ate dinner. I would also recommend trying to eat at other beaches like coco, the restaurants around playa hermosa are overpriced

This was a last minute choice as I had forgotten to have a reservation as I went through immigration. I had searched this properly and booked it to get through immigration, while standing in line. So glad I did! This location is peaceful, quiet, clean, and beachfront. Tuna tartar excellent! Lomo cooked to perfection. Carpaccio de lomo even better, great mixture of flavors without smothering the dish. Kind, knowledgeable and helpful staff at every level. Small market in walking distance. ¡Pura vida!

Bosque del Mar has potential but missed the mark. The prices were outrageous for low season; the hotel was dead. The restaurant we didn’t bother with because the food looked below average. Playa hermosa is very sleepy town and most places closed for low season. Went into Coco daily for food. Beach was nice, but we left most days to check out other beaches. Pool needs to be cleaned throughout the day with a net because of bugs, leaves, etc. Stayed in the Opone suite which was nice but not worth the extra money; no beach view. Shares patio with other Opome suite which was fine. 804 looked nicer than our room 803. Definitely need a car to get around the area. Wouldn’t be back… will stay in Coco or Tamarindo.

Great time in quiet Playa Hermosa!

This is a great property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff is super helpful with special call out to Diego who helped us find surfing lessons in Tamarindo on our last day at the last minute! We loved our stay here. I highly recommend it. I would say just a smidge pricey for not including breakfast...but all in all, no complaints!

The pictures of this hotel do not do it justice. The cove is beautiful, the design of the rooms is so lux, and views are remarkable. The food and drinks were a bit too pricey, but there is a grocery store nearby and there are some cheaper dining options down the beach. I would come back to this hotel every year if I could. So unique!

This was a great place to stay on a very nice beach. The room was very nice. Pool was ok but also kinda what we expected, still refreshing at 85 degrees. Same temp as the ocean. The sand is scorching hot so wear sandals. We walked down the beach to other restaurants for dinners because the food was better / different. Pitch black walk on the beach was interesting and the “path” was also oddly populated with people in the dark.

We enjoyed our one week stay at Bosque Del Mar. The staff was very friendly and helpful especially Diego at the front desk and Alexis and Sofi at the restaurant. We did not have a problem eating at the restaurant each day as there was a variety of selections for our family (including a very picky child) and everything was fresh and delicious. We appreciate Alexis packing us breakfast one day when we had an early pick up for our excursion. Our room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was spacious especially the shower area. The access to the beach was a big plus as well. The pool was small but beautiful. We just hope that they change or add paddings to their lounge chairs to make them more comfortable. We liked that the hotel gave us a relaxing stay and offered easy services to explore the area. Overall we highly recommend this hotel as it added to many good memories to our first trip to Costa Rica.

We went with our whole family (12 people and 5 rooms) this resort gives you the best of both worlds.. walk in pool and amazing beach. We've stayed here several times because it's a decent beach near the airport. The grounds are beautiful. The hot tub is not hot. The yoga class was nice. The music in the restaurant is horrible. I'd rather listen to the ocean waves than elevator music. Also they need new curtains. Sheer curtains where you can see out, they have these heavy blinds that cover the entire wall.

Location is not ideal and we had to go to playa del coco for food. Couple of minor issues that did not bother us is they had water issues for like 30 mins and power went off in the middle of the night for like 10 mins.

Beautiful Surroundings with Pristine Beach Access

Hotel Bosque del Mar is an immaculately maintained small/medium-sized property that sits right on the beach in Playa Hermosa. The staff here were very friendly and provided lots of information for us before and during our trip, anytime we requested it. They even helped us book a 1/2 day snorkeling excursion that picked us up directly from our hotel. The room was very spacious - it included an aesthetically pleasing sitting/family room separate from the bedroom area and the bathroom was large as well. The bed linens were very cozy, but the beds themselves we a bit hard. We found a few small bugs in the room from time to time, but no infestation and this was not bothersome considering the location of the hotel is within a forested patch along the beach! The section of beach that is right in front of the hotel provides shade and lounge chairs with cushions. There is access to the restaurant/bar available by hotel staff members who check in periodically. The breakfast service (not included) was very well priced and had plentiful options. On Sunday, the breakfast service is a buffet with eggs to order and live music - we enjoyed it thoroughly. We did not find the dinner service to be as good of a value, but did enjoy the quality of service and food that we purchased. Parking is secure and easy to access, just right across a road that is not busy.

Bosque Del Mar is a beautifully landscaped property. It was lovely to be right on the beach. The bedroom of our suite near the pool included a window wall from which we saw beautiful trees and plants. We felt like we were in the jungle as we walked around the property. The food was excellent and the restaurant has great views. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the small size of the hotel made for a serene and relaxing experience

This review is specific to room 705 at the resort. If you visit here and they want to put you in that room, politely decline as it faces the lobby, dining room, and the bar area. You are unable to sit out on your terrace for morning coffee, or to relax after a day on the beach or exploring. The bedroom had 3 two sides of floor to ceiling glass People can literally look into your room from the bar restaurant and lobby if you had the curtains open. It is also along the foot path that every single person has to traverse in order to get to their room, so probably the noisiest room there. The rest of the resort was great. The people were friendly and accommodating, but that room in particular was not a garden view . room .

Not limited to this hotel, we found hotels along beaches are very expensive in Costa Rica, unless one is willing to stay at a hostel. This hotel is modern, clean, and comfortable but in our opinion, it’s not worth $650 CDN per night not including any meals. Similar hotels exist in Mexico and Dominican Republic but at much lower cost. Similarly, hotels up in the mountains near the volcanoes both in Costa Costa and Nicaragua are much more spacious, less crowded, and at a fraction of hotels along the coast. Dining at this restaurant is of fine dining. No buffets. Prices are consistent with fine dining in Toronto. So, budget for extra food cost. If we come back to Costa Rica, we won’t likely stay along the coast. It’s simply too expensive, hotter, and more mosquitoes than the mountains. The most expensive room at Four Seasons Hotel is like $20,000 USD per night. For that price, one can buy an acre lot in Nicaragua. In summary, there is nothing wrong with this hotel. It has done what it purports to offer. One contributing factor is the price of land along Costa Rican coast. It is $$$$$. So, building on those beach access land also translates to increased cost for travelers. Hope my summary helps.

Our room entry was mildewy and this smell went into every piece of clothing I had and I had sinus issues upon returning. I would notice it when I walked in but then I got used to it so it didnt bother me. I was just there for 1 night or I would have requested a room change. This was obvious and something anyone working there would notice upon entering. I had a ground floor unit and it was nicely appointed but the sliding door had no screen so it had to be kept closed. There were floor to ceiling windows which sounds amazing... but the heavy blackout drapes were required to be kept closed all the time because anyone passing by could see into the room. That wasn't ideal.
The pool was beautiful but didn't have any sun on it at any point of the day.
The staff were terrific and the food was very good. There was live music for a Sunday brunch which was very nice.
The direct access to the beach is very nice but the outdoor chaise chairs were quite tired.
It was quite expensive and needed some updating.

We had booked a suite for our stay. After checking in, we found that the living area lights did not work, rendering half of our area unusable. Over the next several hours, repairmen kept entering our unit for repairs but didn’t fix the problem. Then at 11:30 at night, the lights in the bedroom wouldn’t turn off. The switch ilmechanism for the room is a very unusual digital switch. This resulted in a disruption to our sleep. In addition, the breakfast buffet was absolutely pathetic.

This hotel brought the jungle onto the beach and it was wonderful. We saw iguanas, monkeys, and several exotic birds on the property. The room was wonderful, as well, with very comfortable beds and air-conditioning. The service on the beach was not especially attentive, but everywhere else the service was terrific.

Not 4 Stars, Disappointing

This is a 3 star hotel pretending to be 4 stars. Room cleanliness was below average. Dusty corners, filthy area rug in entry room, moldy spots around AC. Bathroom smelled like sewage when door was closed (no ventilation in bathroom). Bathtub is outdoors and we tried to use it in our last night…drain plug no working and wouldn’t fill. Unsafe door lock, you’d shut the door and then realize it wasn’t actually latched. I told front desk to fix it multiple times and they smiled and nodded and then didn’t. For the first 24 hours we had no hot water. I had to ask front desk three times to fix it. They never checked in with me, apologized or really seemed to care. Last night of our stay was New Years Eve. Got a call from front desk saying they were leaving at 10pm and no staff would be available all night long. Have you ever heard of a 4 star hotel that does that? Absurd. Then they had a DJ party with the speakers set up literally 6 feet from our patio. Went on til 7am. Would have been nice to know that we were going to have a full blast dance party before booked. Not cool. Don’t get me started on the restaurant. “Special Pancakes” consists of one 5 inch pancake for $15. The waiter said “because it’s special”. Some of the most expensive hotel food I’ve ever seen, rivals NYC hotels, just crazy. The good? Sheets and towels were clean, the grounds/pool are pretty, and the beach is awesome. But I can assure you I will not return here.

When we checked in we were told about what was included in hotel stay nor were we offered the amenities we saw other guests received later on the week. We checked in on the 15th before 7pm so reasonable time. I think what is included in our hotel stat the day we check in is more important than tours offered by the hotel. We would be told certain things requested would be done by the time we returned but it was not, we always had to ask again. It would be done always graciously but always had to ask a second time. Must say Roland was extremely helpful and great asset to the hotel. He should be put on your list of staff to promote. Most of other staff were extremely helful. Having the beach right there was a great plus. Thank you.

Beautiful garden around the hotel with lots of iguanas and a shady pool. Right on the beach so ocean swimming too! Pricey restaurant but very friendly staff. Only about 30 min from the airport.

A charming hotel that exceeded all expectations. Amazing service and beautiful facilities. A unique property right on the beach, so much wildlife to see by the pool - howling monkeys and iguanas were a treat every day. Wish there were no jellyfish in the ocean so we could swim more. Otherwise, it was a fantastic stay.

Beautiful property located right on the playa hermosa beach. There were iguanas everywhere, very cool! The water was amazing. The staff was so kind. The rooms were clean. Food was delicious, though a bit spendy. Would definitely come back.
