Check-in was fine, but the leisure facilities were a letdown. The pool was cold, the jacuzzi didn’t work, and the steam room was out of order. Lockers were unreliable and needed a £1 coin, which is odd for a card-only facility.
The saunas are segregated and located in the changing rooms, which isn’t ideal for a couples stay. The male sauna also smelled strongly of urinals. We left almost immediately. At least we weren’t charged.

We booked an Executive room, but it didn’t feel like one. The lighting was poor, leaving parts of the room dark. The shower-over-bath setup was awkward due to the curved bath, and not what I’d expect at this level. Worst of all, the “double” bed was just two singles pushed together — unacceptable for an Executive room.
Why do some hotels think this is OK? If I wanted a budget hotel, I would have booked one.
Oh, and the miniature soaps where annoying at best and useless for a shower. There must have been more plastic used in the packaging than shower gel inside it.

Staff were generally pleasant, though the older bartender could do with smiling every now and again.

Food was very nice, dinner and breakfast. Some options for vegetarians but this didn't seem to please 'Karen' who found an opportunity to be rude and moan at every opportunity. I guess you can't please them all, especially the Karen's of this world.

Wouldn't choose stay again, though I’ve stayed in worse and it's not the worse place for a bed for the night.

Room definitely needs upgrading , it did smell bit of wee , the light in bathroom was broken, light on wall was hanging off , I said excellent as the facilities was excellent, sauna , jacuzzi, gym , food was amazing, staff are excellent, but hotel definitely needs a refresher, paint work awlful, carpet terrible, but very nice bed 👍

The room was clean though we could have done with some more pillows. The spa facilities were good and my full body massage treatment was excellent.
The waitress and waiter at the meal were welcoming however the order was changed due to my allergy without them informing me and my steak came without any sauce. I asked for a different sauce to my steak; instead of peppercorn sauce I asked for Blue cheese sauce and was just given a little bowl of cubes of blue cheese, which was disappointing, otherwise good food at the restaurant. Breakfast in bed was good just slightly overdone toast but I know this is a personal preference but could have been medium to suit everyone. Over all an anverage/good stay :).

Hotel itself was clean . The room was a nit shabby especially the bathroom. We had issues with the bathroom lights continuously going on and off. We offered to move tooms but we were all unpacked by then. Could of done with a comfortable chair in the room. No details in the room of how to vontact reception. Not many complimentary toiletries eg shower cap , moisturiser. Limited small botules of shampoo only and shower gel.
All staff were fabulous except bar and waiting staff who had no personality, were miserable and barely spoke a word ! They let the team down. Especially the lady eith long ginger hair....she kust needs to smile and be polite !

The hotel, its facilities, staff and overall way it’s run was truly awful.
From the outside, the hotel looks lovely. As soon as you walk in, the hotel disappoints.
Do not go for the cheapest room. They are like something from the 70s and are in desperate need of attention. Save the money, go to premier inn.
After complaining, we upgraded to a premium room. Again, carpets threadbare, paint peeling from walls, stains on bathroom floor, and furniture that had paint peeling off it.
We stuck it out as no other rooms available. The bed was relatively comfortable.
The next morning at breakfast the shambles continued. Not enough staff on duty, not enough food available as they were slow to cook and bring more out, watered down juice, and staff who were totally fed up being complained to.
What looks a lovely hotel turned out to be truly awful. Save your money, do not stay here

Great for Eskimos! We booked a four poster room, and got charged for the pleasure, but didn’t get that room - we got a very very cold and tired room on the top floor, which failed to heat up despite the small electric heater being turned on. Complained and got refunded £10 … insult to injury! Food was terrible. Overall absolutely awful.

Disappointing Experience Despite Promising Exterior

The hotel looks appealing from the outside, but the service and amenities were a letdown. Despite requesting a quiet room, we were placed facing the carpark — and it wasn’t even busy, so accommodating us should’ve been possible. The check-in staff claimed all rooms had great views, which was clearly not the case.

Bar service was equally poor. Staff lacked basic customer service skills — no greeting, no smile, and dismissive responses when asked about whisky options or the menu. The room itself was mediocre: broken furniture, a missing drawer, and dirty curtains.

The only redeeming features were the pool and steam room. Breakfast was chaotic — a single broken two-slice toaster for the entire restaurant, with staff showing little concern as guests queued in confusion. Overall, the service was appalling and far below acceptable standards.

On arriving in room there was loud dance music coming from the very close health club ( i could make out the words), when i spoke to reception io was told it would be overy by about 8pm - not to much of an issue as i wanted to eat.

Room was a good size, after I finally got my room that I booked and paid for, only to be told .. sorry we have no availability of that room type, Expedia messed up so I'm afraid there's no room for you. Eventually the manager upgraded the room, but said .. this is a more expensive room, so you should pay more but this time we won't charge you! Wow 😳

Beautiful surroundings with golf course. Pool was cold, jacuzzi broken, steam room broken. Changing room for health centre bit not very clean. Restaurant had very limited menu- poor vegetarian choices and not able to just have a starter/cheeseboard in the restaurant area despite being quite so had to sit in the cold foyer to eat the cheese board. It was very poor value for money, no chutney as advertised. Room fine and clean but bed quite uncomfortable. Wouldn't recommend sadly. Right under the Stansted flight path so noisy with aircraft from 3am.

Generally good hotel but the lock on our room did not work and we had to have a member of staff use the master key to let us in to our room on every occasion, we were not the only customers with this issue so there is obviously a maintenance problem.
Otherwise the facilities were good, the health club was great.

Unpleasant stay and smelly

Two single beds pushed together to form a double isn't ideal. The room smelled of urine and the bathroom had an unpleasant odour. The shower was either off or scalding hot and no amount of fiddling with the dial or waiting seemed to help. We had to have baths in the smelly bathroom in the end just to get ready to leave. Not great.

Breakfast was cold, in certain areas the carpets are worn and dangerous, the room had damaged furniture, holes in the curtain nets, etc. The rear unattended side door appeared to be left open all night so anyone could enter the hotel. Expedia has been passed photo's. It is a shame that the hotel appears uncared for, as it is in a lovely location and from the outside looks nice.

The hotel offers so much but delivers so little. Food was ok but limited choice. The eton mess was devine though. We had to change room 106 after the first night due to lighting issues, switches not working, bathroom flood after a shower and a terrible bed. The new room 319 was much better but had a dodgy loo seat which was reported to staff, but nothing was done to my knowledge. Staff were all very young but cheerful and eager to please. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special, when i ordered some poach eggs they arrived quickly but were like all the breakfast food lukewarm if that. We put the breakfast sign on our door the Monday night and was still there the next morning.... we put the sign out about 9pm. Room was clean, but the loo did smell and bathroom floor did have a couple of bits on the floor. So not very well swept. Bed was a lot better than the previous room.

Good gym facility, pool and spa. Hotel itself was dated and not as clean as expected (dirty towels, dusty lightshade).

Main problem was the very old decoration in the room (standard), but was told they have more modern rooms at higher rate.

The room rate was very good for what it was, if the cleanliness was better will be a much better experience.

My bed was large and comfy but was 2 singles pushed together and the gap kept opening up. Room was clean and had eveything i needed. bathroom could do with an upgrade. Very nice location, and very friendly staff. It is obvious that they put their heart and soul into the place. I think it's had its ups and downs with bad management, training issues and maintenance. It did what it said it would do, but I have a feeling that with a bit more help and support, the place could be exceptional, as the staff deserve it. They obviously love the place, and so do the regular patrons. It's a work in progress, don't let the silly little things put you off staying here, and I do see good things in the future.

Was advertised as having a lift, but it didnt work. And had to go up very steep stairs to our room. Im disabled. And wasnt offered assistance with luggage. Also, x4 disabled bays x3 of which taken by cars without a disabled badge! Illegal!...raised it with reception & no one did anything about it. When we got to our room, we only had one large towel & yried calling reception on the room phone, but it didnt work!...my partner went down to request one, but we didnt get it for at least a couple of hours, so had to share one after our showers before going out for dinner. They also had very loud music playing right outside our room, though when i told them, they did turn it off.

No water when we woke up, so no shower, no bath, no tap water, no toilet - so not ideal! No alternatives offered either.

The issues we had would normally be easy to look past, but we paid more for a reason, and expected better. Our curtains didnt close properly, which meant the room was very light during the night and we barely slept after travelling for 3 hours, and then again before travelling home for 3 hours.

On our 2nd night we got back around 1130pm from an event. The first issue was our room key didnt work and we had to go and get that fixed. Once we got in, my wife tried to have a bath, but as we filled the bath it made the bidet fill and overflow, flooding part of the bathroom. Staff were helpful in fixing the issue, but by the time it was fixed it was 1am. We were given the option to move downstairs to a room woth a working bath, not exactly convenient at 1am, and we were told the new room had a broken lock, so we wpuld need to have someone take us back in the room any time we left. Completely ridiculous.

When we checked out around 930am today, we had to bring these issues up because the girl on reception didn't bother asking us how our stay was - really poor customer service.

Maintenance is very poor. First of all i was booked in a room which was like a sauna with nothing to turn the heating off then i was changed to another room which the key didn't work so back to the reception were i was to anoth44er room for the third time and everything thing seemed resolved but i went out for the evening on my return the key wouldn't work again and for 35 minutes i couldn't find anyone to help me to sought the key.

Generally very clean and the staff were very polite. Only that last night we had an issue with water supply for the greater part of the evening. We went to bed without running water.
Also their air-con is fixed at 19.5% and you cant change it so the temperature was uncomfortable during the night. At the same time their top linen is just a very warm duvet which makes things worse. I requested for simple bed sheets and I was promised that someone was going to bring it to my room but no one turned up.
Please make it clear that if one wants to use the beauty facilities ie getting treatment, they need to book well in advance. The primary reason I went there was for my wife to use the Spa. Unfortunately we were told that it was fully booked and she was disappointed.

What a poor stay , I stayed there with my partner for 2 days , I had dust all over the lamps in my room one of my lights wasn’t working , very noisy at night when I was trying to sleep , my hair dryer didn’t work my partner went down to reception
And told them waiting half hour for them to bring a new hair dryer up not good at all
