Charming hotel and grounds, really friendly and accommodating staff, and exceptionally dog-friendly. The harness/lead sets in the room were both a surprise and a delight. We didn't get to try the spa this time, however other guests mentioned the spa(s) were really good too. Quite a bit of work being done in the grounds, but all looks like additional development/features, but in Feb, so not a problem at all. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed for 1 night with a toddler, plenty to keep the little one entertained with a play area and large grounds to explore. Room was also very spacious, we stayed in an executive room. Even with an additional bed, the room had plenty of room. Loved it so much, we’ve since rebooked.

Had a wonderful and peaceful stay for my birthday - staff very kindly upgraded my room. I had the most relaxing facial at the spa which was worth every penny! I also really enjoyed the fish and chips from the restaurant.
Cleanliness was overall good, but could've been improved when it came to stains on the sofa in the room, occasional hairs left on furniture and insects found in-between the window frames. I understand some of these can be difficult to remove, but that attention to detail would've have made the stay 10/10 for me.

I wanted this hotel to be be everything it promised to be, but it just isn’t. Our room was a bit tired and in need of modernisation. The decor in some areas feels very dated. It’s incredibly overpriced, our room was as small as it possibly could be, but the Garden Room restaurant is definitely the main culprit here. The vibe is plain odd, and the food is just fine. The vegetarian Tortelloni was £37. I wish we’d just eaten in the bar…. better atmosphere and a better selection of food. The staff were again ‘fine’. No real warm welcome and some of them just seemed to lack training. Not their fault at all. It feels like a hotel that just hasn’t got a real hold on what it wants to be.

There was nothing particularly awful about our stay, but I just couldn’t recommend the place.

A warm welcome and pleasant stay

Thank you for the warm welcome at reception and allowing us to park our car at the front of the hotel. Our room was clean and welcoming. Staff were all polite, friendly and helpful. Our only criticism was the lengthy wait for drinks to arrive at the terrace bar. We either ordered in bulk! Or headed into the fox bar for swifter service.

we had dinner in the bar although a little pricey food was excellent and plenty of it.
The only down side was the state of the drive with quite a few pot holes could be a problem if unsteady on your feet and not good on the car tyres.

Lovely stay despite challenges

On arrival reception staff tried hard to find a suitable room for us. My friend has mobility issues and the main house has no lift. A room was found in the West Wing which does. The room was clean and spacious, the beds were comfortable, tea and coffee making facilities very welcome. Unfortunately, although the bathroom was large with double wash basins my friend was unable to use the shower which was over the bath. She used the showers in the spa for the duration of our stay. There was a good choice of breakfast hot and cold food and beverages, in pleasant surroundings, with friendly, helpful staff. Would recommend but be prepared if you are visiting with friends or family with limited mobility.

Torturous night!

Impossible to sleep at night given room temperatures of 28 degrees +; without availability of AC.

Windows don’t fully open.

In the modern era, a far more comfortable sleep would have been had at a Travelodge, Premier Inn etc for a third of the price.

And the food quality: £25-30 a dish for Wetherspoons quality. Again, better off just going to Spoons!

Good venue for an event; terrible place to stay.

I loved the grounds the location the decor in this hotel it was beautiful however , the staff were awful no one served myself and my friend on the terrrave for over two hours to the point I got up and went and got the drinks both times myself ! At dinner they didn’t take our plates away we were sat for over an hour with our plates on the table service was poor and basic training needed or more staff so that the day shift staff can rotate as the staff work from day to night then breakfast clearly overworked . Then comes the worse part we didn’t sleep and my other half has extra heat exhaustion because the rooms are not air conned and it was a hot weekend to the point where we had to wet towels on our bodies throughout the night the walls were warm and the tiles in the bathroom hot from how warm it was we told reception who were well aware of how hot it was yet no water was sent to the room or any compensation offered she had told us that she couldn’t do anything about it as the hotel was fully booked and that there was no more fans either ! We overheard a couple at reception say they were leaving to stay in a travel lodge because the environment was inhumane !! Secondly our friends we went with were pregnant it was for my other half’s 30tj birthday we had to cancel the spa the next day as we couldn’t think of anything worse then sitting in heat again and we left before lunch it ruined our stay and for that we would never stay there again it was unbearable

A word of warning, this hotel has no air-con and is VERY hot - my room was 36c, the windows opened about 10cm and they couldn't switch my room or move me anywhere, should've researched it myself more. Staff wouldn't do anything to rectify the issue other than provide more fans. Think if you stayed in a chain hotel you'd be at least given some kind of compensation, it doesn't have to be much but a gesture brings the situation under control. Nothing was offered.

But the suite i booked for one night did not meet expectations. Considering the room was £386 for the night it had broken old furniture that looked very old and full of dust.
