Dirty room with poor customer service.

I have stayed in a lot of different hotels in the last month, and if this is a 4 star hotel then the others were 7 or 8 star.
The first room we were given hadn’t been cleaned properly with crisps on the chair.
The bed sheets were torn and the mattress had dirt on it.
We were moved to another room wish was slightly better so we stayed although my wife wanted to check out immediately.
The bathroom in the second room looked good but the toilet didn’t flush well and the shower was very slippery.
The following morning I was woken at 08.30 am and told I would have to use my car as they were going to put up scaffolding.
I wasn’t impressed when I asked could it wait 30 minutes and was told no.
I did park my car close to the hotel as children were playing football in the centre of the car park and didn’t want my car damaged.
Not impressed I would not choose to return.

Nice rooms, don't bother with breakfast.

Easy to find and pleasant enough, room was well appointed but the TV didn't have sound, we don't really use it so no bother. Bed was pretty big so very comfy and the bathroom was very nice.
We paid for breakfast at nearly £18 for two i was expecting a decent choice. What we got was not very good at all, stone cold bacon, stone cold eggs and one stone cold hash brown. The beans were the only hot thing with the toast you cook yourself.

Friendly, helpful staff who helped us to find a quiet room. Good location - only 5 mins walk into town and a local Co-op opposite. The bed was comfortable. The only downside was the lack of air-conditioning and windows that would not open fully. Although a fan was provided, the room was still quite hot. A refrigerator in the room would also have been nice.

Located close to the station and to the main High Street within about 5/10 min walk easy to access local amenities. Room was adequate all be it very stuff/close at night. Breakfast was poor, food was luke warm at best. The staff however on the whole helpful and polite. Location was good, although the hotel itself is over priced for what it is, it is in a good location and the executive rooms are adequate the standard rooms are just about passable old and tired and in desperate need to updating!!

City centre hotel with spacious, comfortable room

We stayed for two nights to allow us to explore Chelmsford and the surrounding area (RHS Hyde Hall & Essex Regimental Museum etc). The reception staff were very polite and helpful, but owing to the recent Covid restrictions the room did not get cleaned during our stay but I was able to obtain additional coffee, milk etc from reception. The room was spacious and comfortable and there were many spare spaces in the car park (which is always important to us). It is walking distance from the railway station and city centre. However, there is an extremely bad pot-hole located in the approach road to the car park (when exiting back on to New Road) and this in my opinion should be drawn to guests attention when leaving the hotel for the first time.
Overall would certainly recommend it

The bed was very large and comfortable and a well appointed room, the breakfast was plentiful but I was surprised how many items were 'shared surfaces' such as large jugs of juice with fiddly lids touched by all guests and even though signs to wear masks in the breakfast dining room several guests didn't and it was not enforced which seemed odd whilst having a self serve buffet style arrangement. I would also like to have seen hand sanitizer provided on the tables

I was allowed early check in after requesting but the rooms are extremely poor standard even after an apparent revamp. The carpets are dirty and marked, the heating broke and was freezing but they did give us a portable heater. There are no plugs near the bed so you can’t charge devices near and have to use ones by television. The shower is over the bath but you practically have to stand on the plug hole to get the shower which is impossible as the bath also is narrower at the end. The whole stay was rather disappointing. The only good thing was the beds and sheets were comfortable.

Check in, and room as per the norm, friendly and professional.
In saying that I cut my stay short by 1 day as I did not feel the hotel was managing Covid as per government guidelines.
I came in to reception and found 15-20 B&M staff huddled in groups, squashed on the seating chatting and not adhering to the 2m rules.
Most disappointing about this is the receptionist was not managing this, and asking them to stay apart.
This raised concerns in my mind that if this was not being done correctly by Best Western, what else is not being adhered to.
Working away from home, and staying in hotels in current climate is a priviledge, and as such should not be used as a social event. Room, reception and exit - thats it.
Very disappointed...

Accommodation was great as were the staff.

Food was not good at all.

Starter - deep fried prawns on a skewer. Only 3 and were straight from the freezer - over cooked

Main course - fish and chips. Fish was pre-battered from the freezer as were the chips and peas. Fish was cooked to a crisp and cheapest own brand tartare sauce used. Nothing homemade at all - all bought in. Why? The menu is brief - can the chef not cook fresh food? C`mon is the best you can do?

Breakfast - cheapest beans from a large catering tin, sausage cooked well in advance and hard, cold bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes. Cheapest condiments used - packet sauces and salt and pepper from budget ranges. Cheap brown toast

This is meant to be a decent hotel - and yet the catering lets you all down. Staff were lovely - but this is a management issue. Recruit decent chefs and the results will improve. This was mass produced catering that a commis can cook/reheat. Zero skill involved

Very clean room and was told that the rooms have had a make over, the only thing that wasn't great was the carpet looked old and had bits added by the heater, other then that the room was fine, the breakfast was ok just to big on the full English didn't expect so much, and the only complaint really was 10 to 15 guys standing out the front lobby this morning at 06.10 having a smoke and laughing and joking that woke us up.

Great hotel and service. Currently roadworks outside so loud noise (reversing lorries, music, machines etc) from 5.30 am so be aware if you want to sleep and ask for a room on the other side of the building.

It doesnt look much from the outside but inside it's lovely, I use it for business trips but location wise it's ideal for anything in Chelmsford.

The room was a good size and the double bed was enormous. The desk came in useful for working on into the evening, and the large widescreen TV with Sky afforded relaxing entertainment before turning in. Drench shower was terrific. Breakfast was well worth it - vegetarian options available.

Hotel is not in bad condition and the welcoming reception staff was a lovely chap, but a strange mechanical noise woke me up around 3am and repeated every 20mins till I had to get up in the morning. Told reception staff in the morning, was advised to email the hotel, did that, and manager replied refuting there was any noise issue. Will be avoiding Best Westerns and choose Premier Inn who have a good night guarantee going forward.

Just a mediocre level hotel.
That is all that it is.
Scanty staff unable to really help.
Backing up sinks constantly.
Un-flushable toilets-backs up with paper that you have to go back and keep flushing multiple times even when you use just a couple sheets of toilet roll only!
Un-Vacuumed room after housekeeping happens one day in a 3-Night stay.
Housekeeping ends up not showing up at all and did not vacuumed room day before. Bed cover had sticky stuff that shows that it was not cleaned.
You call for help and staff states he/she is alone and cannot help instantly (example:plunge the toilet).
If you go down to the reception, you will actually receive items requested {Kleenex box and water(more bottles than requested were offered :) }

Hotel is perfectly fine and the bedroom was too. But the bathroom was too small, inadequate ventilation/extraction and everything leaked. Had a shower, did my teeth and the whole room was soaked. Also not easy to actually go in the bathroom and shut the door behind you, need to do a little manoeuvre around the basin and toilet.
Comfortable bed, good TV, tea & coffee, hairdryer, iron and board, plenty of clothes storage areas.
For the price I paid I'd expect a better quality bathroom, considering the bed and bathroom are the most important things on a night or two away.

The flushing of the toilet was abysmal (usually two/three times to clear properly).
The TV set was useless.
I was unable to change channel from ITV3 on SKY: ie unable to see the news on BBC1 or any other programme. The screen kept informing me that the aerial signal was not connected. The gentleman from the reception desk could not fix it either!
I shall be happy to return at a date in the future.

Usual town Best Western but for this one I called ahead and asked if I could have somewhere to get ready early as I was attending a wedding, I was told they would help me out. I turned up at 1:00 to get ready for the wedding at 2:00 and the most unhappy unhelpful middle-aged harridan at the reception said “check in is at 3 and you can get changed in the toilet”. I explained I had called earlier and with a nasty little smile she basically said “no”. I asked to speak to a manager and with the same spiteful little smile she told me there wasn’t one. At that point a lovely young blonde lady came from the office behind and explained it wasn’t their policy but she would see if she could help me. She pressed a few buttons on the computer and found me a room. She was very helpful and understating. She went to check with housekeeping and while gone the harridan repeated another load of reasons why I shouldn’t be allowed to her ready early. I didn’t respond. When she returned I went a land got ready. The helpful lady even printed off a poem for me to read at the wedding.

I suggest harridan gets customer service advice from her colleague.

Harridan enjoyed saying no far more than she should have.

While I understand it’s at the hotels discretion to let someone use a room to get ready a whole hour before check in, I had called ahead and this was more about the attitude received than the service.

Avoid, much safer nicer hotels elsewhere

Avoid, there are much more responsive safer hotels around the area. Arrived and the entrance had a couple of odd characters standing outside drinking. Unsure why there was no security guard to move them on. Difficulty getting in during the evening. Had to wait for door staff to open up the door each time, having to wait outside in an area that did not feel safe.
Pre authorisation payment made but has still not been paid back.
Do not reply to emails through the contact ya option on two separate occasions concerning checking in and after with the pre authorisation deposit that has not been paid back

Nice hotel at a good price.

The look of the room is what you would expect from a 4star hotel. The room was sparkling clean, which made me very happy and the reception staff were very friendly during check in. There are some lovely restaurants in the area and the hotel restaurant was very good too.
However something that I was not a big fan of was the fact the king size bed, it was in fact two single beds our together; that's fine as it's not the first time I experienced this; but other hotels add a mattress topper so the gap in the middle is not as noticeable. In this occasion there was nothing and when I tried to sleep in the middle of the bed it was impossible.
The other thing that I was very disappointed by a 4 star hotel was the fact that the coffee cream pots I had in my room were expired by a few months and when I tried to make a coffee it curdled. I pointed that out to the reception staff who were very apologetic and they gave me some more pots. I didn't check the date as I was reassured they were ok. To my surpise the next day I opened one of the pots, which was yellow because it expired in Dec 2018. I went back to reception to tell them about it, only to be told that it might be because of the heat. I told them that the heat has nothing to do with this and it was expired months ago. Again the staff were apologetic and provided me with fresh milk. Just advise people to double check the pots before using.
Overall I would definitely come back to the hotel :)

Had an bad night due to asthma attack and bad hay fever, as a result didnt sleep all night, asked reception if i could check out at 12.00, instead of 11.00, but got no sympathy from staff and as a result paid £20 !!!, i travel a lot for buisness and at no point encountered this treatment!

Surprised how lovely this hotel was!

The food was of a really high standard and large portions. The room was modern and very comfortable. Not what I was expecting! Previous BW hotels I have stayed in have not been anywhere near the standard of this hotel.

Convenient location

Receptionist was very friendly and helpful and I had thankfully been placed a bit further over in the hotel away from the Christmas Party taking place. Didn’t hear a thing.

Quite a nice hotel with good breakfast and decent amenities. Staff were very helpful and kind. Good location to be able to walk into town (only a 10 minute walk).
Only downside was it rained heavily one night and I could hear a leaking section of the roof dripping on to the bathroom ceiling. Nothing actually leaked into the room, just the noise woke me up a couple of times.
Very minor on an overall pleasant stay.

Spacious Room, Great Location for Town Center

The location is perfect for visiting the town centre, Check in & Check out were seem less & the bed was huge!
Would use again if staying in the area,
