Set in the Essex countryside to the east of Chelmsford, Pontlands Park is conveniently located and only 15 minutes drive from the M25 and 30 minutes from Stansted Airport.The house has been sympathetically extended and today has 35 luxurious bedrooms, a fine restaurant, comprehensive conference facilities and is the perfect venue for weddings and parties, whatever the occasion. Guests can also enjoy the facilities at our neighbouring Leisure Centre with its indoor and outdoor pools, sauna and café.

Bedroom price displayed is for 2 persons. Extra adults, children and infants are charged at £20.00 per person.

Absolutely lovely hotel, first class service and attention to detail. Staff are extremely helpful and no small request is too much. Food is delicious and the location serene. I loved my stay at pony pontlands park from the staff to the food and grounds, the pool and spa was amazing and checking in early was a bonus. Only downside was the walk in shower was very small and no mini bar. Otherwise I will be returning :)

I called the hotel to say we were celebrating a 40th birthday. They said some welcome drinks and free upgraded will be complimentary and thank you for choosing the hotel when we arrived. We didn’t even have the room I originally booked and no drinks and no complimentary gift.

Good but rooms need air con!

Hotel and leisure centre were lovely especially the outside pool and jacuzzi on a hot day!
Dinner was average for the cost and did wait ages for a drink. Breakfast was tasty and good selection.
No air con in the room which was the biggest problem on a hot night as lack of sleep ruined the overall stay.

Worth it

Stayed here for my honeymoon, food was amazing and varied with friendly staff who couldnt have done more, despite me and my wife being alternative and probably not the hotels usual clientele we were treated with nothing but kindness and respect, my wife suffers from chronic pain and needs ice packs to sooth pain, despite no fridge/freezers in the rooms the staff were able to store her icepacks for her.

Pool/spa has limited access

The hotel itself was located in a nice quiet country area, was quite old school in style and decor, but could do with a modern upgrade in places.
We were very disappointed, as we booked it purely because of the pool/spa facilities, as a family stay with our son, but we weren’t even able to use it throughout our stay as a family and were told it was ‘adults only’.
We were never informed that it had limited access due to club membership until after we had made a reservation.
More transparency and upfront information is needed - check before booking as we feel like we did not get value for money at all.

Another great stay

Another great stay! Lovely room. Breakfast always wonderful. We also had lunch which was really good.

The place and the staff never disappoint. We didnt catch the name of the lovely waitress who served us brekfast and lunch but she was very efficient and professional.

We visited the spa twice which is always great - must try and book in the summer when we can sit in the gardens.

Nice place, shame about the duvet.

Staff were friendly. Building was nice, but the room was not that comfortable. No fridge and the safe was broken. The worst thing was that the bed was a 6ft mattress but we only had a 5ft duvet, which didn’t cover two people in the bed. This meant we had a poor night’s sleep.

Overall very good hotel with excellent facilities

Very comfy bed , quiet , nice leisure centre with excellent facilities that you can use for free during your stay

Nice place but wish we knew there was going to be a wedding band blasting towards our room until midnight. Knowing we had a baby it would have been nice to warn us of the noise or offer a room away from the music.

Call ahead for the spa/pool, check the rules

Very good hotel, but would caution if going with children if you want to use the pool. There are very strict restrictions of when and how the pool can be used, but the small print is only shared once you arrive at the hotel.


We booked and paid full price for my stepson to stay in a separate room only for him to be turned away from the swimming poo. It turned out that supervised 15-year olds are only allowed in the pool during a 2.5 hour period during the day, and that was only pointed out to us in the small print as he was turned away from the pool. Hotel management told us rules are rules and as the spa/pool is not part of the hotel, they can’t do anything. We would have gone somewhere else as we wanted a hotel with a pool in Essex (being in Chelmsford was not essential for us).

Separately, breakfast food is good, but the service experience varies. First morning we had lovely service, but the second day we had a very rude server.

Enjoyed our stay. Hotel lovely and staff very friendly and helpful.

Used Reflections Spa but was disappointed as so many children in the pool with floats etc that unable to swim any lengths. Changing room too busy as well with children running in and out some of an older age. No privacy when changing.

Breakfast was good, but felt was all undercooked ie bacon, sausages, hash browns tomatoes could have done with an extra 5 mins in the oven.

Charming period house renovated into a modern hotel with beautiful gardens and surrounding property. Amazing cooked breakfast buffet. Enjoyed opening room window to hear birds each morning (hotel surrounded by nature). Staff were very helpful in arranging taxis, directions, late night snacks, and loaning me a phone charger. Ok but could be improved.

The hotel is ok. The bathrooms are old and in need of refurbishment. The service is mediocre with the exception of one or two people, the other staff were not openly friendly or helpful. The food in the restaurant is ok but not exceptional and is overpriced and they automatically add 12.5% service charge. I have not know this as a resident in a hotel before.

Lovely surroundings

This hotel is in a lovely area, quiet and safe. The room we were staying in was large with a comfortable bed, lovely bathroom
It overlooked the gardens at the back where there was a marquee. We stayed 3nights. It was very welll cleaned everyday.
Just be aware, when there are events taking place in the marquee or conference rooms, it will be noisy in rooms at the back. Just request a quieter room.
The staff and management are all lovely and will go overboard to ensure you enjoy your stay..
We would recommend this hotel.

A lovely old hotel tucked out of the way

A lovely relaxing hotel where we have stayed before. Ideal for a long weekend. Has become a bit pricey ( as has everything these days!). I noticed a few small things which were not to my liking this time. Eg. No shower cap provided in bathroom, no choice of wholemeal bread, no choice of milk at breakfast (unless you ask), no alternative to butter provided for breakfast toast. Swimming pool was packed with non hotel residents could hardly get into the changing room so I gave it a miss. Still a lovely place but noticeably slipping a bit.

Ver nice hotel. The mattress on the bed was slightly uncomfortable. Coffee tray was a bit poor. A coffee machine would have been a nice touch considering the cost of the room. Not sure breakfast was worth £20.00 either on reflection.
