My 5th time of staying here and a very different experience to all previous visits. I travel with for work so being able to work from the room is extremely important. I always choose to stay here as the rooms are clean, well proportioned and there is usually a desk or table and chair to work from. On this visit I was allocated Room 6. Although it is classed as a double room it was tiny (you would struggle with 2 people in there) There was a small dressing table but no chairs. Hardly any plug sockets meaning I had to attend an online meeting perched on the end of the bed.
Downstairs in reception / restaurant they were playing music so loud it could clearly be heard in the room. There are only so many times you can listen to the same tracks on repeat. This continued until 9.30pm and restarted at 8am the next morning. Fortunately it didn't wake me as the extremely loud kitchen extractor, which seemed to be under my window, came on at 7.15am and did the job of an alarm clock perfectly.
Worth noting also that the room was incredibly cold.
I would of mentioned the above on check out but there was no one there.
All previous stays have been fine but probably wouldn't stay again unless I was sure I wouldn't be allocated room 6.

Amazing staff, food of a high standard. Rooms especially windows need repainting, updating .Noisy if windows are left open. But I would highly recommend. Will be staying again.

Very comfortable stay at Le Bouchon. Staff were so attentive and helpful. Well appointed room with wall aircon for comfort. Pod coffee maker was a nice touch and to make a change the TV was of a good size to be able to sit up in bed and watch! Breakfast options were so varied and it was all made freshly. Downsides - there was no USB ports in the plug sockets - i luckily had a power bank with me to charge a phone. The toast for breakfast was dry despite butter.

Friendly staff, clean and welcoming. Two things let our stay down, bedroom was small so bed pushed against wall with access on one side and unfortunately our room backed on to the boiler room that had something cutting in and out all night . A different room and all would have been good .

Just booked this last minute as we were at a music festival just down the road from second one I was met with the most friendly staff I was shown round everywhere then taken to my lovely room perfect. When we arrived back we were again met with a lovely staff member and our sleep was amazing highly recommended must stay here if your in the area

This hotel is a real find. It is 5 star. From Clare at check in, with Aron who carried our bags up 2 flights of stairs (the building is 300 years old and the owners cannot get permission to install a lift!), to Piotr and Aron who provided excellent service during the evening meal and last but not least to Emma who looked after us at breakfast. The selection of dishes on the evening meal menu was excellent and the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen was second to none.

We enjoyed our overnight stay with a comfortable room and welcoming staff, especially James and Emma. The only frustration was the lack of internet although staff did their best to try and rectify the situation. The meal in the restaurant was excellent. We had One night getaway - top class hotel- beautifully decorated throughout with no extras in the room scrimped - chocolate - shoe shine and needle kit included! Fab comfy bed and a gorgeous bathroom with a huge shower space! The service was attentive and all areas that a guest would want for a stay provided. The hotel has a romantic boat ride where they provide drinks to the mooring - delightful hour ride up and down the black water and chelmer navigation waters- ala carte food is well priced and we spotted an afternoon tea which looked divine … breakfast was excellent! Can’t wait for my next stay!

First impression on arrival was not very good, but everything after that turned to be an amazing experience. Henry, the manager was very helpful, took our bags to our room and showed us the facilities at the hotel. Staff at dinner helped us to enjoy a lovely meal. Only negative comment is that I think the statement in its in-room guide that corkage will be applied to own alcoholic drinks consumed in room is a little unnecessary. I have not seen that before in UK and very rarely in extensive worldwide travel.

Excellent food and staff very pleasant. My only complaint concerns the soup I was served on my first night. I would expect soup to be accompanied with some bread. In France most restaurants provide a basket of bread before the meal. I asked for bread and received the pre-starter dish of bread/olive oil and balsamic vinegar for which I was charged an additional amount of £4.95.

Beautiful hotel near Maldon. The staff went above and beyond with the wonderful service . I have been shielding and have a medical condition so was very cautious about going into the big , wide world ! The staff found us a quiet table to eat , and the bar and restaurant are well spaced out during Covid times . There are screens and sanitisers and all staff wear masks , but it still managed to feel special. Loved it here , food and rooms fantastic , will definitely come again ! Thank you x

We could only stay one night, but would have loved to stay longer. Rather a strange location but the hotel was beautifully designed, looked after and the staff were terrific. We had an upgraded room (thanks) on the top floor with a junior suite, and on this hottest of days, the powerful stand alone air conditioner was a real godsend. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and very efficient. Definitely a 5 star experience, we'll go again.

Needed to stay near Maldon for a wedding, sent an email to the hotel asking if it was possible to check in earlier, on arrival the room was ready for us. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, ordered the night before for 8am well cooked. Loved the whole experience.
