The staff were so nice, really friendly and helpful. We had evening meal and breakfast and they were both great. The pool was fine, had a nice swim, jacuzzi and steam room. The let down was the room hadn’t been cleaned, there were still balloons in the room and leaves in the bath, half a toilet roll from previous guests. Also we got charged 4 different prices at the bar for drinks and a large Chardonnay was £15.95 for a glass, not a bottle, which we found extortionate…

Room smelled of sick when we got in on feb 8th. Staff couldnt move us as no room so had to stay there for 2 nights. We were not allowed to use the gym - even though we would supervise our children. One of the reasons we booked here was for the facilities but the swimming pool was tiny. We could not get into the jacuzzi as members were always in there. Room was clean. For me the mattress was to hard rock and sofa bed wasn’t very comfy either. The air-con on cool in the changing room at the swimming pool i found it the most annoying as when you get out of the swimming pool you need a warm place to change not a “fridge” to get cool.
But the breakfast was good lots of options and staff was always helpful. Free parking and nice area with playground for kids at the hotel.

The property is rated as a 4-star hotel, but it definitely is not. The pull out bed was dirty and the thin cover was dotted with marks and very unkept. The breakfast was very mediocre. I usually enjoy a buffet but this time I couldn't stomach to finish one plate! I was glad that our stay was only one night as I would not be staying there again.

I am a regular guest of the Holiday Inn, Abbots Lane, Colchester and have always found the hotel both inviting and comfortable. The staff are excellent and always friendly and helpful. I’ve dined in the restaurant on many occasions and the meals have all been excellent with a wide variety of menu choices. I would highly recommend a stay here!

All the staff were fantastic. It just seemed very unorganised. When you needed something or ordered something, they weren't ready or got it wrong. For example, Got to the Bar, no staff available to serve. ordered a drink, no pint glasses. Ordered some food, got the order wrong. Needed a receipt, they had to go to reception to get one as they couldn't do it at the bar. Arrived for breakfast, half the stuff had run out.

It’s a very tired property desperately in need of some TLC. Staff are all very pleasant and the gym and pool are reasonable. Bed was very uncomfortable and the walls are paper thin, I could hear everything and I mean everything from the room next door. I’m sorry to say, I ordered porridge for breakfast and after 20 minutes enquired as to where it was and was told the chef burnt it. I should have realised then but I made the dreadful mistake of ordering a Caesar salad for lunch, surely that can’t be too complicated…? Well it was the worst salad I have ever eaten, it was chicken skin and fat, vile. £14 for the pleasure. Avoid at all costs. £115 for the room, I would rather sleep in a park.

Stayed for 2 nights and made the most out of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna, except the sauna wasn’t working on the last morning.

Dirty tissue in room when arrived. Rip in duvet cover. Premium room extras such as water/soft drinks/ crisps etc only fully replenished on 2 of the 8 days of stay.
Hotel starting to look a bit tired in corridor areas.
