We spent 3 days at the hotel,l was so impressed with friendly staff nothing was to much trouble.
Rooms were clean and bright a nicely decorated.
The complimentary breakfast was excellent so much choice.
We had 2 evenings meal at the inn and wasn’t disappointed with any of them.
I would recommend this holiday inn express as lm not easily pleased and l certainly was there.5*

The beer was cold and breakfast hot! Helpful and friendly, chatty staff. There’s a Waitrose next to the hotel for any bits & bobs you might need during your stay.
Breakfast had a fair variety including make-your-own pancakes and lots of breads/pastries. Choice of non-dairy milks including oat and almond.

Good value for money as the hotel is in a handy location on the Ipswich to Colchester road.
Excellent for an overnight stay when visiting relatives in the area.
Haven’t stayed for a while and was surprised that the ample parking is now chargeable £8/night - unless you sign up to IHG rewards programme.

I was given a room where the heating didn’t work and also the phone didn’t work to tell the staff. I felt poorly and this was the last thing I needed particularly when my room was the furthest it could be from the reception.

I got moved rooms where not only did the heating not work again but it was on full blast cold so was noisy too. I was too poorly to change rooms again so I put earplugs in and got in bed. When I got up the next morning to leave, the door had been ajar all night because it doesn’t shut properly unless you push it very hard. Great!

I told the receptionist Rachel the next day and she was lovely about it and said to get in touch with hotels.com to get a refund. However the hotel are refusing to give any compensation at all.

I would give no stars for this hotel stay if I could.

Everything about this stay was wonderful: check in was quick and friendly, dinner was really tasty, the room was very clean and new, the pillows and bed were comfortable, and the breakfast was fabulous with lots of protein and gluten free options! The only thing of note is that is it not close to town so a car is beneficial as it is a bit of an expensive Uber ride.

The first room we were offered had a bathroom door which didn't shut, so we were offered another. Rooms are comfy but basic. Air-conditioning/heating was extremely noisy. No heating or heated towel rail in the bathroom.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food at breakfast was good, but plates were cold, so the food didn't stay hot. We ate twice in the evenings and the food was reasonably good, standard pub food.

Every thing was working except the phone in the room, the staff was very helpful and nice. My body wasn’t adjusted to the time and I missed a few breakfast and I ask one of the worker she allowed me to still get some of what was left, I had to take my meds so I was very grateful she didn’t tell me, but I wish all the staff was like her.

Perhaps stick with four star in future?

Booked for visit to family locally. Didn't need excellent facilities but was a bit disappointed by the three star quality. Some corridor carpets worn and dirty. Net curtains in room grubby and torn, bedside lampshade cracked and damaged, glass shelves in shower not level so bottle slid off. Room card didn't work on second night so had to be re programmed.
Lots of moths in room. Explanation was 'we're in the countryside with a farm next door. When fields are ploughed, the insects come in' but this wasn't very convincing.
Eating area is at the end of the reception area, not separate. Food choices not great. Gluten free choices not great - no muesli.
Parking £8 per night extra but ask at reception and charge waived.
I would look for an alternative on next visit to area.

Where do I start?
The rooms were stinky, the bedsheets and pillows were smelly and specially the Galleries were not clean at all. The reception was unattended for long periods, the wifi didn't work and the breakfast was all super cheap packed stuff reheated... not happy at all overall...

Hotel was nice but a little bit dated. Stains on the carpet but sheets were clean and the bathroom was clean.
Beds were definitely used and saggy but if you like soft mattresses that would work for you.
Area only has a petrol station near it but I believe there may be a bus nearby to get elsewhere.
Not far from town centre with a car, about 20 mins.
Breakfast is adequate.
Friendly staff.
Join the rewards program and get free parking.
I would stay there again.

First time staying at a Holiday Inn Express and it was amazing! We stayed for the Ed Sheeran concert and upon arrival we were gifted a brown bag with water, biscuits & a Kit Kat, so thoughtful. The bar and food were great and reasonably priced. The room was big, clean and beds were very comfy.

Fantastic stay and far beyond a 3 star

The check in and staff were amazing. They offered a welcome pack of a bottle of water and chocolate bar and breakfast bar. This wasn’t expected and due to the heat it was very welcome. We stayed as we had travelled for an Ed Sheeran concert and they had all the info of the show available and just went above and beyond ensuring the stay was pleasant and made a bond with their guests. I would thoroughly recommend staying and Kate (manager) was exceptional and so welcoming.

The corridor is keycarded so every time the kids wanted to go out to play they had to had a key , so few times they lost it we didn’t know and it caused bit of hell for us then not being able to come up and down freely

I was really disappointed with my stay I usually rate IHG hotels and travel for work but I only managed about 2 hours of sleep because I was in a room opposite and between groups of men who messed around in the corridor and slammed doors until midnight! I tried to call reception as as solo female didn't feel safe or as though I could challenge, unfortunately got no answer.

The outside noise isn't great either.

Maybe more mindful allocation of rooms for solo guests would help and keeping an eye on unruly guests.

This was an ‘extra’ overnight stay on our way to a golf tournament at another venue. The receptionist, Charley, was very polite and helpful and apologised for the fact that Hotels.com had not mentioned in my booking that car taking needed to be paid for separately…the only ‘fault’ we could find was that the breakfast only catered for scrambled eggs - no fried or poached options! :-(
