Dinner was fair however fish and chips were overcooked not burnt but in the fryer way too long.

This was a reasonably priced and fairly comfortable option. Staff were generally very helpful and exceptionally polite. However, on our arrival after being seated in the brasserie, we had to wait a long time and eventually find someone, to place our order. We liked our room with balcony, and the parkland environment. However, it was impossible to use the bathroom during the night without waking the other occupant because of light spillage. As a suggestion it would be good for the hotel to work with the university management to develop a safe pedestrian route to the bus stops at South Courts - the footpath runs out at the car parks and we found we had to walk on the road to progress towards the bus stop. This would be completely unmanageable for someone in a wheelchair. There was a wedding going on during our stay and as the wedding party were using the enclosed garden space, we weren't sure if we could sit there.

Clean Rooms, Attentive and friendly staff, quiet and peaceful sleep. Only thing id suggest is hooks in the Superior rooms just for quick access to handbag/jacket rather than drapping them on chair or having to take them off hangers in the wardrobe. Also, the vanity mirror in the bathroom should have its own socket/electricity switch as having the vanity mirror light on with the bathroom light gets very bright and overwhelming first thing in the morning.

Nice hotel in a great setting, very handy for the university sports complex next door. Food and service in the restaurant was excellent. The only thing to note is that this hotel does not have air conditioning, there is a fan in the room but it can still get pretty warm if the weather is nice.

Beautiful hotel, very peaceful and the rooms are done out to a high standard. They do not look tired or well worn it really is a lovely hotel. The staff were really polite and attentive. I really can’t fault the fit and finishing of the whole building and rooms. There was no noise from adjacent rooms which you sometimes get with other hotels. The grounds surrounding the hotel are beautifully kept and there is no road or traffic noise. Really is a great stay and location. Comfy beds slept really really well, and nice to have a fridge and safe as standard.

Wivenhoe house is beautiful, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bedroom was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, it’s nice to have a coffee machine instead of the usual cheap instant sachets. Bathroom was a good size, extremely clean with a powerful shower. Food both in the evening and breakfast was well presented and delicious. All the staff were very friendly and professional. A beautiful property with a lovely historical charm- though a bit on the expensive side. The reception team was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I stayed in the Hilton room for a night before my graduation at the University of Essex, and it made the occasion feel even more special.

Our room was the Charles Gooch Suite, which was so lovely and extremely large, perfect as we had our 4 year old son with us, who slept on the pull out sofa. I love how the hotel keeps the period features of the house so well, yet of course has all the modern facilities.

Everything about this hotel is excellent. The staff are super friendly and helpful whether they’re on reception, the room cleaners, or brassiere staff. Comfortable beds and great views across the hotel grounds. My only tiny gripe was at breakfast when, even though the menu says that cooked breakfast is cooked to order unless it is particularly busy ( which it wasn’t when I was there as there were only about 8 people having breakfast), the bacon had obviously been pre-cooked and stood under a hot lamp for too long so that it was hard and rubbery. A shame as it was top class bacon. That aside, everything else was just about perfect.

I would not recommend a balcony room because noise from other guests is extreme. There were antisocial guests up all night making lots of noise inside the hotel and out in the balcony. This continued through the night until 8am.
The hotel took no measures to prevent or stop this. Be very careful about staying here.

We were very lucky and got an upgrade to a room with a balcony. The bedroom was very spacious and well supplied with tea, coffee etc. Bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom very good too. We ate in the restaurant. Food was lovely. All of the people we met, in the reception and restaurant were friendly, helpful and effecient.

My new go-to hotel in Colchester and the surrounding area. My husband and I stayed for a work party nearby and were struck by the helpfulness and kindness of staff from the start. From the reception to the security in the evening, the chef and the ladies serving breakfast, everyone was so kind and went the extra mile. Really next level.

Fantastic stay for our 1 year together! Gabrielle on the front desk was really helpful, allowing me to pull the wool over my other halfs eyes; I turned up early, set the room up (despite the fact the hotel had already put a swan made towel on the bed plus rose petals) and then went back downstairs, where when I turned up the second time., we \"checked in again\" without my other half knowing.
