Well laid out room. Perfect for my wife and I. Could do with more tea bags and milk and sugar but, thats a personal thing. Very comfy nights sleep and good choice of breakfasts to choose from. Courteous staff and attentive. Handy having a Toby Carvery opposite too.

The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient. The room though was very disappointing. We were aware that we would have single beds, we did not know that one bed would be against the double headboard and the other stranded under the window. The bed in question did not have a headboard or legs. We did move it but without legs it was significantly lower than the other bed.

The best thing i can say about breakfast was the coffee was ok. Overall the hotel was well worn and in need of a refresh.

The beds here are small and feel cheap, they’ve clearly replaced king size beds with standard doubles that guarantee no space and no sleep.
Adequate for single travellers; but very lousy for couples.
We got moved to HIX Stansted here after HIX Braintree moved our booking; arrived tired and late around 23:30, and I’m writing this at 02:21 having just had to pay £100 for a second room in order that my wife and I both get some sleep.

The breakfast and overall service were excellent. The bed was quite uncomfortable and mad sleeping difficult (even after a bottle of red wine!). I was also disappointed to find that my IHG “points” were not applied because I booked through Expedia! I may have missed this when booking but, if it wasn’t made clear, it should be!

Hotel in a quiet location. Friendly staff. Rooms are outdated but regularly cleaned. High-quality towels and excellent mattresses and pillows. TV channels limited to free-to-air channels only. Excellent Wi-Fi stability. Unfortunately, the breakfast menu is always the same, but it is fresh and tasty every morning, as long as you don't have to stay for more than one breakfast. This hotel is only suitable for one or two nights. The evening bar is good and has an excellent selection of beers. The instant coffee machine at breakfast produces instant coffee, which is more unpleasant than tasty.

The staff on reception went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. We travelled to Braintree to celebrate my 80th birthday as our family is somewhat scattered, with our eldest daughter living in Braintree.

We had booked 3 rooms and the wonderful reception staff allowed my daughter access to each room to leave special gifts for us and balloons in my room.
There was even a birthday card and prosecco from the hotel.

Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with vegetarian sausages for one of my family. In all, nothing was too much trouble. We were able to order taxi's from the hotel to the venue and the bar was open for a nightcap on our return.

A huge thank you to all at the Holiday Inn Express Braintree for helping make my birthday so memorable.

Night staff absolutely wonderful

Cleanliness in the room was average and I did report that the mugs and spoons were still dirty and asked for them to be changed which the staff were more than accommodating and helpful. Broken latch on the bedroom door which I reported and the reception offered to give me another room but it was very late and I felt more than safe. Bed was comfortable. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the pillows.

Bathroom door handle broken with screws showing. It was temporarily fixed after informing receptionist.

Please note that there is NO indoor or outdoor pool at the hotel as advertised. Children were very disappointed as this hotel was specifically chosen because of the pool.
