Stayed two nights for work. The chair in the room might as well have been a concrete block, which when you're working away isn't a nice way to sit and relax in the evening. The taps in the sink and shower were stiff and almost uncontrollable for flow and temperature. The carpet was dirty and very tired, the towels were like sandpaper, and there were only two sockets, one of which was so loose it would certainly not pass a decent electrical inspection. To top it all off the staff on reception that I spoke were both pretty miserable and unhelpful, and wouldn't give me a VAT invoice for my stay. They said it was because I booked through Hotels.com, but every other hotel I've stayed at have been able to. I'm away a minimum of 100 nights a year too, so I know hotels!

The room was cheap, but even then, it wasn't good value for money. I certainly won't stay again! Plenty of better places in the area for similar prices. Avoid this one if you can!

Room was shocking.Lots of notices around the room advising non smoking yet it was stinking of smoke.Worktop surface was chipped and stained.Toliet handle was loose.Shower head coming away from the wall.I could go on.I understand it is a budget hotel but in comparison to others for eg Travelodge this place doesnt justify the price.Unfortunately not for me

the room was awful! in need of a complete refurb and deep clean! we had booked for two nights but moved on to a different hotel for the second as it was so bad. we were in the area for a funeral so really didn't need the aggravation.
The whole place is shabby and that's being polite! would never go again.

Cruising from Tilbury so looking to drive up from Bristol the day before and find a nearby B&B. Found the Campanile on Expedia based on price and distance. Read the reviews and thought \"How bad can it be?\" Well - not bad at all! Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room for the night and extremely comfortable bed. Close to dual carriageway but we didn't notice any traffic noise. Evening meal a bit \"ready-meal\" but a great breakfast and late check-out if you want it. Will definitely stay again if sailing from Tilbury.

Celebrated the last Campanile in the UK. Recently been refurbished, clean and just what a person needs for a one night stop over. It aint the Ritz but the staff were welcoming, the place tidy and clean.

The bed and the bathroom was clean, but the room was old dated and seen better days, it was very noisy from the road, and I had to sleep with the window ajar which felt insecure, it was terribly hot when I opened the door to enter and I had to stand on the walkway while the room cooled down, not ideal. And I was charged £200 for two nights. When it shouldn’t be more than £50 a night. Never again

I was really disappointed with the way my daughter in law was spoken to today by the receptionist. She was made to stand around in the reception area even though I had booked a further 2 nights and had a confirmation email with my booking number and she was in a room already . Then when I was trying to pay at reception they said they were cancelling the booking and I couldn't get another room. I have had to lose my deposit which I expected as I knocked the TV off the side with my bags and it cracked the screen, my bad and I apologise and I would of paid whatever I was asked as I am a person who has respect and morals. I await your reply

The room was very small for 3 of us to stay the night. The double bed was fine but a single bed was put in the room for my son, but the room was so small we had to climb over the single bed to get to the bathroom. The room was very old fashioned, run down and very poor quality.
Luckily it was only for 1 night, but would never stay again.

Staff and check in was fine but there was a very stale smell in the room despite open window.
The pillow was very uncomfortable due to plastic covers that caused pillowcase to keep sliding off leaving my face stuck to the plastic.
I needed to use the toilet in the early hours of the morning and discovered a soaking wet floor due to a cracked and poorly repaired toilet bowl (literally a huge crack with some kind of large, stained sticking plaster holding it together - a health and safety nightmare) which is probably what was causing the stale odour in the room on arrival.
In the morning I also noticed that all the external paintwork was shoddy and in a very poor state of repair and in need of renovation.
I have photographic evidence of the damaged toilet)
On the positive side, the staff were extremely apologetic about the leaking toilet and the cooked breakfast was generous and of good quality.

AVOID - Homeless Hostel pretending to be a hotel.

AVOID - UNSAFE. This place is in urgent need of a re-fit. The staff confirmed the hotel is being used mainly for \"Homeless People\". I think the dangerous condition of the car park, stairs etc should be immediately addressed. The photo's on Hotel's.com are clearly many years old and do NOT represent the hotel correctly. I am unsure how Campanile dare charge this amount of money for such disgusting accommodation. TV works \"Sometimes\" Bathroom is ok but not finished. Mice evident in the room. Lots of strange people hanging around. No security.

More a homeless hostel (as confirmed by hotel reception) than hotel and clearly suffers from all the associated problems.

Campanile - Issue a refund - Its the right thing to do.

We have been going to the Campanile off and on for nearly 27 years and have found that the staff are always professional, polite and very friendly. The hotel is basic, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. The grounds and the building needs updating, however, there is nothing to suggest that it’s run down. The company are keeping on top of decorating and updating.
The food was cooked for enjoyment and there was plenty for breakfast for the price
Just a reminder to anyone staying, if you haven’t got a do not disturb notice to put on your door, in the room, ask reception for one also I understand they also have a pet in the room one as well.
I would like to thank Carla, Hayley, Robyn and the rest of the staff we met as well as the manager for a stress free stay and look forward to next year

Not happy. The rooms were so small that hardly there was any place to walk. Very old and rundown rooms with bad carpets. Slightly cheaper but you could go to a better place to stay. The premises reminded me of Bates motel. once i had this thought in my head i couldnt remove it. there seemed to be alot of smokers and smoking facilites around the area/outside the room there were little pots left for smokers. there were alot of single rough looking people residing in these rooms and in the restuarnt area. not sure if its used as a half way house. i felt slightly unsafe at night in my room as the rooms didnt feel very secure. the rooms were cleaned every day but the carpets were tired, the area smelt smokey, the balconys were very used and populated by the smokers. wouldnt stay there again and couldnt wait to leave

Very close to A127 which is handy but it can also be noisy though not the Hotel's fault.Very close to large Retail Park (Pipps Hill) which is useful for food. Guests need to be reminded of the need not to slam doors at any time particularly at night, slightly annoying that parents allow their children to run around in the dining area. A marvelous weekend

I have no problems with the Campanile Hotel, as we only use it for a go back to after being with family all day. The rooms are clean and basic, bed with clean linen, bathroom with clean towels, desk with TV, kettle and tea/coffee etc as much as you like from reception. Because of its age the outside areas needs a bit of TLC. The breakfast is well worth the money, full breakfast (9 items) cooked well, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Good startup before a day out. Staff very professional and polite and jolly, all of them always greeted with a smile. The only setback was that they never used cash it had to be card at all times even when you had snacks from the cool cupboard in reception.

Not so good- looked like a low budget American movie motel. Dated and a bit shabby. Bathroom heater was from the ark. Chipped table, discoloured mirror, water run marks on the bathroom wall and a carpet smell that took us back to the 1970s. Pillows and bed cover smelt like they had previously been used by a smoker
Close to the main road so good location but be aware this means road noise until late.
Overall if you are just looking for a cheap bed and hot shower it’s ok, but based on this one would not use the chain again

The entrance outside the room was unsafe to get in or out of and I nearly fell over several times. Number 6 room. Outside the concrete path directly at the door was lifted and made getting in and out difficult, a health and safety issue.

Quick bit of comfort for a short stay in Basildon.

Parking was available extensively and it was convenient to register the vehicle.

There's a great menu at the restaurant and the food was tasty.

The reception staff were welcoming warm and friendly.

Overall I'm pleased with how my stay went at the Hotel Campanile.

The room was comfortable and warm and it had excellent ventilation.
It was quaint in its layout with a welcoming porch that was entered into by a quirky walkway.

Facilities like tea and coffee in the room made the stay over night more enjoyable.

There was a great selection of channels of a wide-screen television with high-definition.

The location of the room was convenient as it was close to the where service was good.

The facilities in the room appeared simple but the standards were acceptable.

The linens were clean and fresh towels were provided the stay went very well.

The nearby roads continued to be busy however there was quiet enough for a sound sleep.

As the hotel was respectably convenient, it remains as a place worth noting for a short stay.

Strange layout. Very run down. Held £100 from account in case of damages even tbough the room was covered in damage and took 2 days to refund it back. It was clean at least. The worst thing was the musty smell as soon as you entered the room and it caught the back of your throat. I couldnt get rid of it and it kept me awake. I could not wait for the morning to come to leave. The shower was nice and hot though and there was shower jel. Im not particularly fussy and wanted cheap and cheerful. This was cheap but definately not cheerful. Avoid. I wouldnt let my dogs stay here

The hotel it's self is convenient and efficient for a stay over for a night out. Clean, tidy and has a bed so no complaints from me. The breakfast is lovely and you get plenty to choose from and a decent coffee. My only issue I have is the lack of clear and precise information on the 100 pound deposit you ask for on arrival. The information on the website reads as though you request a deposit if guests bring dogs, which I understand. But to ask guests without pets seemed abit wrong. Luckily I had no issues in paying it, but if I had not had sufficient funds I would have been left far from home with no hotel. The receptionist was rather blunt in informing me they had been doing it for the last 3 months, which was a shock to me as I hadn't done it when staying 2 weeks prior. But the reasons behind it were understood. I think the sour point for me was being told they use discretion on certain people. Which kind of insinuated that i was the type of person that goes around damaging rooms lol It is a lovely basic hotel that fulfils the needs for the night, just need abit of clarifying on what and who has to pay the 100 deposit on arrival or move it away from that pet bit in the rules
