Arrived yesterday afternoon for an overnight pit stop before the 2nd stint to the south. Easy to find and just off the motorway. First impressions - looks good. Nice spacious reception with big sofas. Check-in was very quick. The room we had was a typical standard family room with a large double and a 2 single mattress sofa bed - the beds were very comfortable. Nicely decorated and looked clean. A lovely shower room with a rain shower as well as a normal shower. Separate toilet room although we were greeted with a yellow, slimy build up of limescale which was gross. This could easily be treated and should be. Tea/coffee facilities - served with paper cups and wooden stirrers. No milk but reception were happy to supply some. Our fridge didn’t work and when we approached reception about it, we were informed that some of the fridges are broken, no attempt was made to rectify the situation. Once settled, we spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool area which was really nice, with big loungers, umbrellas, comfy sun beds. A nice way to relax after a long drive. Just beyond the pool was some sort of play park but didn’t investigate. We booked a table at the restaurant. The food was extremely taster abs well presented. The waiting staff were really lovely. Overall - it’s a nice hotel and we’d use it again although we’d make sure the room we are allocated had a working fridge and a clean toilet.

Very disappointed with Novotel

We stayed overnight and were very disappointed. The flush kept leaking the entire night and was absolutely annoying. The shower gel and shampoo containers were empty. And room service could not provide any food after 10pm!

Restaurant menu for evening meal wasn’t set for children so not very good there.
We had a family room and it was to hot as air conditioning has been turned off. We spoke to other people and they all said they didn’t have air conditioning.
Very nice hotel but when you don’t get a good sleep because it’s to hot it really let it down, 8 of us traveled and we all felt like we couldn’t sleep just because the air conditioning wasn’t working. Big let down.

Generally a very good stay but going out we had booked for Bed Breakfast and Dinner. On arrival we were told the restaurant was closed and we could not have a dinner. we paid only for Bed and breakfast and were given complimentary room upgrade and drinks.However a bit disappointing we were not told in advance that no dinner was available

Value for money is grood. Conveniently located. Facilities are fine too.
Food at the restaurant is average, though the staff was very nice.
The hostess at reception was not very pleasant, our key didn't work at first, when i told her she could not help herself but to take me for an idiot that does not know how to use a key card, instead of admitting her mistake. Also, being the first person to welcome guests at this hotel, i think that a smile would not be too much asking. Anyhow I would recommend this hotel for a short stay.

A well maintained hotel with modern facilities and excellent helpful staff. Room well decorated though poorly lit. A great outdoor swimming pool.

Good food in the restaraunt but so busy that staff were overwhelmed and meals were delivered out of sequence by people with little grasp of English.

The hotel was very nice, with excellent facilities. Our couple ofcriticisms were that the mini-fridge wasn't working, which we only discovered after the food we had put in there had gone off; also that the cleaners were a little overzealous, and took away various items that were our own things that we had brought (toiletries and glasses).

Flea Bites

We have stayed at this hotel 3 years running now as an overnight stop on our way to and from the Mid Pyrenees, and we have always had a enjoyable stay, HOWEVER On our arrival at the hotel on Sat 25th August, we were allocated room 234, and on entering the room I noticed that there were long black head hair on both the duvet cover and in the bathroom floor, also when going to bed that night we noted that there wasn't a mattress protector on the mattress, just a sheet, of which I was quite shocked, as there has always been a mattress protector on our previous stays, through the night I appeared to have been bitten by a flea or similar whilst sleeping, thet were not a mozzie bites, and since arriving back in the U.K. I have been advised they were definitely a flea bites:( I'm so gutted :(

Paid for the hotel in advance. When we arrived, they expected us to pay 100euro deposit in case we had meals at the restaurant. Bearing in mind it was a 1 night stay over 600 miles away from home. To this day we still haven't had our £100 euros back into our bank which should have never been taken anyway. Absolutely disgusting

Nice hotel but poor management.

We only stayed for one night, thank goodness! Checking in was simple enough and the room was nice and clean, the bathroom not so, and it is not obvious how get the shower to work.

We reserved a table in the restaurant, when we arrived we shown to our table and left there for 30mins, no one took our drinks order so we went to the bar to order drinks only to asked to go and sit back down and wait to be served. 15 mins later someone came to take our order. We ordered our food and drinks, the food came ridiculously quick which made us think it was actually meant for someone else! When leaving the restaurant we wanted to put the bill on our room which confused the staff and took far longer than it should.

On checking out we charged again for the room despite the room already being paid for through expedia. This was their mistake which in their defence they spotted but they then told me that they were not able to refund the room! So I now have to take it up with the their complaints department.

Lovely, clean and modern hotel with friendly, helpful staff. We stayed for one night on the way back from Spain and it was perfect for our needs. Not much within walking distance with regards to shops, restaurants or nightlife but for one night the hotel had everything we required on site.

Unfortunately we ordered a fillet mignon and we were served pork?! Figure that!! The lady running the front desk sorted and deducted the price, but it doesn’t help when you want to eat and now its to late to order again! We ordered room service in the morning for a apple juice and a orange juice which took over 35 minutes to come. When I said all was fine we were ready for leaving the man who brought the drinks in a very aggressive manner told us we need to speak nicer and be nicer even though he was the one late. If you don’t want something as a customer then that’s on the customer and I do not need to be told to be happy!! Very poor

Good for a night stop

A pleasant Novotel that appears to have been recently renovated to a good standard, but without much attention to detail - see photograph of kettle and hand basin. How would you get water into the kettle??
I suppose it saves on teabags! The room was comfortable although the heating kept reverting to a low temperature (and this was in the recent cold spell). Once reset, it worked well for an hour or two. The shower was in need of maintenance, having a \"drooping\" head that couldn't be tightened. The restaurant provided good food, but the service was slow. There was a team of three serving, but the leader spent most of his time at his computer, leaving the two ladies to do most of the work. All the staff were pleasant and friendly, and I would use this hotel again

Good quality budget hotel in middle of a refurb

We booked the Novetel at St Jean de Braye as a cheap overnight stop on our way home from Spain. We had a family room to sleep 2 adults and 2 children.
Price was excellent, and lower than comparable Novetel's in the area, we presumed as the hotel is undergoing refurb.
Our expectations we in all honestly low, but we were pleasantly surprised on arrival.
The reception area itself is very impressive, with a lounge and bar area behind and an excellent swimming pool outside.
Inside the hotel however there is quite a bit of evidence of the ongoing refurb - mismatched carpets that are not properly laid, areas closed off etc.
We were fortunate to be allocated one of the refurbished rooms, so everything was new and immaculately clean. Décor however does leave something to be desired, I'm not quite sure who agreed to have the furnishings in bright burnt orange nor who commissioned the hideous mural on the bedroom wall (we spent the night overlooked by a huge image of a woman's face!)
The main bed was large and comfy, however the sofa bed for the children was poor. This came in two part, one which was quite solid and robust and the other which was wonky. Given the wonky angle of the second child bed, our son kept rolling off the bed as gravity took him there. The room was also uncomfortably hot and the aircon prevents you setting the temperature below 22 degrees,
So given a combination of a child who couldn't sleep and the uncomfortable temperature we actually got no sleep at all.

Ok but not 4 star amazing

The hotel is being refurbished so half our floor was a building site, carpet not quite finished being laid, trip hazards around the pool and nothing to do near the hotel unless you drive there. As a stop over for the night it's probably ok - and if you are happy to driven somewhere (but we had driven for 10 hours so it wouldn't have been nice to be able to walk in to town or something). We found the chateau around the corner (not much in the way of sign posts or footpaths or directions from staff). Ok for a 1 night stay but service is not quite 4 star - they don't necessarily think that if you are the customer that's they should look after you!

Booked Family Room Given Away Prior To Our Arrival

Unfortunately the family room with pool view I had booked back in January for 2 adults and 2 children had been given away prior to our arrival, and as there were no other family rooms avail and to make up for it the hotel was prepared to give us two rooms, for free, but no where near to each other, after complaining that that was inot good enough, they through gritted teeth gave us 2 Executive rooms, (Executive part was it had a luxury coffee maker and a robe in the room) not adjoining, but near to each other on the 4 th floor, wouldn't have been a problem if the stairs were open for usage, as there was only 1 lift in the full hotel for all the guests :( .
We are booked to stay there when returning, I just hope we get the family room as booked originally in January . I'm not holding my breath though :(

Good stop over on drive to Spain

Hotel had just been refurbished and decor was lovely. Rooms and public areas were spotlessly clean and beds huge and comfortable. The swimming pool was a wonderful break for the children after a long drive.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Our only complaint was the bar and restaurant both at dinner and breakfast. The few staff on duty seemed inexperienced and totally overwhelmed with requirements for food and drink.

I'm sure this will be sorted out and would certainly return and recommend this hotel.

Worth the money

The hotel was being renovated but that did not interfere with our stay at all. Our room was very nice but the toilet floor had not ben cleaned so we contacted the desk and it was cleaned straight away. The lax attitude of the cleaner could have spoilt our stay but it did not as it was dealt with in a few minutes. We will stay there again as we travel the route 4 times a year. Thanks to the night manager.

The hotel is under renovation so we had a room with no carpet on the corridor, the temperature sensor was covered with tape and the bathroom walls had patches of paint and primer. The room was very dirty, we found a bug crawling on the floor, a spider with its web on the lamps, and mosquitoes. The blankets were torn and dirty. Had a reservation for three nights and left after the first.

Worst hotel experience ever.

So many complaints! Hotel is currently a building site with no pool or playground facilities, no outside access apart from the car park and no air conditioning in rooms. Our room and the corridor it was on was tired and worn and incredibly hot to sleep in, especially with a young child. The restaurant was unable to cater for a simple food allergy so my husband was unable to eat any meals over 2 days.
We have written our complaint to the hotel demanding a full refund and are still awaiting a reply.
We have never complained about a hotel before but we were so disgusted by this place we had to!

Arrived at 7;30 pm on a Sunday evening. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Had a simple dinner. The waiter also was very friendly and made useful recommendations on what to order. Very pleasant restaurant which has recently been refurbished. My only comment would be that both the room and the corridor are beginning to show their age. However both were clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Quiet hotel with a truly fantastic breakfast

We chose this hotel as it was about halfway into a drive down to the midi-pyrenees, it had a competitive price and the pool/playpark were definite bonuses, the room was well equipped and quickly converted into a family room by pulling out the sofa bed, this meant a rather early night, but after a long drive before it this was probably a good thing! We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, a fine selection cooked to a high standard, as well as a quick dip in the pool. The real surprise though was the excellent breakfast buffet, there was a wide range of food from traditional to continental, and it set my family and I up for a long day driving.

You should stay at La Source

It was ok, the room itself was spotless and we enjoyed a swim after a long drive.
The carpets in the corridors were really dirty, the reception was good. The restaurant was pretty good but we felt breakfast was poor. We got overcharged by 35 Euros for our meal which was rectified and then when I checked out we were overcharged again by another 30 Euros which was eventually rectified.
Luckily I speak French as lots of staff were monolingual. We stayed at La Source Novotel in Orléans on the way down and it was much better. The staff were of course excellent though.

It's ok, but not usual novatel standard

Easy to get to from the motorway, good parking, and friendly staff. but don't expect a usual novatel standard. Rooms are adequate but tired and in need of refreshing . not sure how it's a 4☆ , don't want to be too harsh as they are in the process of a referb , but it is a long way from finished. Italian restaurant next door served great food at a reasonable price.

Standard Novotel - just don't eat their food!

My son and I stayed 1 night as a stop over. It is easy to find and arrive at. It is a standard Novotel set up with no real issues, except the food.On the night we arrived there was only one table in the restaurant occupied at 8 pm, so not exactly busy. We ordered the local specialty burger as it was likely to be quick and filling and we had been on the road for 8 hours straight and were both very hungry. It took near 30 minutes for our food to arrive and when it did the burger was cold and raw in the middle and the chips that accompanied it were over cooked verging on burnt. I refused to eat my meal and was offered a plate of cheese by way of compensation. When the cheese arrived (no bread - just cheese.) it was accompanied on the plate by a green salad that appeared to have been dipped in engine oil it was so greasy. We both left the restaurant still very hungry but too tired to make a fuss. That night my son who had braved half of his burger was violently sick at about 3 am. So much for a restful night before the next long leg of our journey.

To be fair to the hotel, when I paid the bill in the morning and complained about the food they deducted the cost from my bill. However, the idea of a relaxing stop over was not what we got as my son suffered the after effects for the remainder of the journey home.

In conclusion, if you want a quick convenient 1 night stop over, then it is a Novotel and that is what they are for, just for goodness sake don't eat the food!

We stayed for two nights, on the way to and from our holiday in France. With three small children it was great to be in such a family friendly hotel. There are toys in the reception area for younger children and an xbox for those a bit older. Outside there is a small but nice play area, along with a good sized lawn for them to burn off some energy. We didn't use the pool but it looked good.The staff were great with the children and even had small toys to give to them which was a lovely touch. We had the City Breakfast (rather than the full offer) which we found was ample and the childrens was free. When we checked out we were given a large bottle of water for our journey - again a nice touch.

The only down side was that the restaurant didn't open until 7pm, which was a bit of a struggle for our little ones. But, the table was laid with crayons and paper.

Overall, a great, stress free, experience.

We were only staying one night and given the cost, were realistic with our expectations here. The positives were that, despite other reviews, I could not hear the motorway at all (the motorway is very close by). The breakfast was very comprehensive and great value for money. The hotel was clean and the staff were polite. The pull out bed for children had several slats missing, which we found lying on the floor under the sofa. Some could be reattached and some were broken and one was completely missing. The biggest complaint I have is the temperature of the room. I had just been camping for 2 weeks in the South of France and this room was drastically hotter. Although I could have opened a window, the window opened horizontally and was at waist height of my 2 young children. There was no window locks so it opened wide, with a 3 storey drop onto concrete.

We were greeted by very friendly and helpful reception staff who even provided us with bottled water as it was so hot!
The room was very spacious and a very comfortable Kingsize bed. The only down side was hearing the person either next door or above us visiting the bathroom!
There was no working air conditioning for which the staff apologised and said that was being put in place shortly.
If you eat at the hotel, it is a bit pricey and the portions are not very substantial, but it is very good.
A good place to stop over for the trip down to the south of France.

Stopped here returning to Paris from Langedoc. Modern,spacious room. Bath with tub. Separate toilet room. Otherwise equipped like an American hotel/motel. Good parking. Kind of in the middle of nowhere outside Orleans. Convenient to Autoroute and close enough to see some Chateaux. Good restaurant. Nice pool area. Playground and Xbox 360 for kids, so good for families.

Good hotel for French stopover

I had to book this Novotel as the one at La Source was fully booked. This Novotel is still convinent as a stopover en route to the south of France and the hotel is well equipped and the staff were helpful and friendly. The corridor does need a freshen up and there is a lot of artex going on. But overall the stay was good.

The hotel itself is a perfect stop-off on the way from Calais to the Dordogne. They cater very well for children with lots of toys available, free use of the play station and the swimming pool. The food is not very interesting but is acceptable albeit over priced (there is a pizza place next door though).

On arriving at the hotel we put our passports, tickets and cash in the room safe (after testing it twice). When we went to retrieve the cash the safe wouldn't open with an electronic message displayed saying that it was due for a service. The reception staff couldn't open it with their master key either and advised that the manager didn't work over the weekend so we would have to wait til Monday morning before he would be able to assist us (it was Saturday evening & were due to leave early Monday morning). We had to make quite a bit of fuss before they agreed to get the manager back to \"break in\" to the safe with a crow bar and drill. He then spent a good 30 minutes telling us how grateful we should be that he interrupted his weekend to help us.

The incident with the safe was just unfortunate and if that hadn't have happened I would have given 4/5.

Friendly, comfortable family room

Some Novotel \"family rooms\" are a bit of a stretch but this one was spacious with plenty of room for 2 adults plus a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old all in the same room. Usual high Novotel standards of cleanliness, comfort and friendliness. On the downside, no map of the city was available and at breakfast, they kept running out of the hot food (too many Brits?!).

The only reason the overall rating is only 'pleasing' is because service in the restaurant is very very slow in the evenings. Otherwise it was perfect for a one night stop over with children on the way down south.

Do not stay here with a family

I was bitterly disappointed, I booked a room with a double bed and 2 separate beds for my son 15 and daughter 10. On arrival this was a double bed and a sofa bed. The staff were very unhelpful and did nothing to try and rectify the situation. I then went to make a cup of tea to find that there were only paper cups in the room. I asked for a porcelain cup at reception to be told that they didn't have proper cups for the rooms and that only paper cups were available. They did have proper cups at the breakfast table.. so why couldn't I have had one of those? I found the staff very rude and unhelpful.

Perfect for a family stopover

An excellent stop over on our way from the south of France to Paris, especially as it was so close to the motorway, but not so close that noise was an issue. The facilities for families - pool, table tennis, play area etc - were ideal. As regards cleanliness, the hotel was faultless. I would definitely use the hotel again and would gladly recommend it to friends and family.

Nice hotel, dreadful food

Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. We arrived exhausted after a 13 hour journey. We booked a table for dinner for 8pm and on arriving at the restaurant, we ordered drinks and started looking at the menu. There wasn't a great deal of choice but we were hungry and too tired to go elsewhere to eat. The waiter was very impatient and rather unpleasant. He kept returning every couple of minutes to take our order and looked less than pleased when we were not ready. We actually said can you give us 2 minutes please and he actually looked at his watch and returned again in 2 minutes. The food was dreadful..would never eat dinner there again.....the steak was the worst I have ever been served. Breakfast was better but expensive. The bill was pushed under my nose with the same impatience while he held onto it waiting for me to sign....he wasnt leaving until I signed it there and then. I would stay at the hotel again for convenience but definitely wouldn't eat there. We noticed on leaving with the benefit of daylight, that there were places close by to eat. Once again, I can honestly say that the reception staff were very kind and helpful, perhaps they could give the restaurant staff a little training

Hot, uncomfortable, poorly maintained

After a full day's drive from the South of France we were more than ready for a lovely night's stay in Orleans. We'd already experienced the lovely Novotel Le Lac Limoges hotel on the way to the south and therefore expected a pleasant, comfortable stay.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed: the meal in the restaurant was of poor quality, quite a surprise in France. There may be some problems with the kitchen as others seemed disappointed too - we saw other couples sending their dishes back also.

We were a little dismayed by this but unfortunately the key component of our stay - the hotel room - really let us down. The bath fixtures came off in our hands and the plug didn't work properly meaning we had a time limit to our lovely relaxing soak. The bed was not comfortable - the pillows were an issue - and despite claims to an \"air cooling system\" in the hotel the room was stifling. Unfortunately the local wildlife was making such a racket outside that we had to choose between noise and heat.

Even breakfast (excellent at Limoges) was a bit poor: cold \"hot\" food for instance.

However the front-of-house staff were excellent - friendly and welcoming, we couldn't fault them.

Convenient stop-over but misleading info on beds

We chose the Novotel Orleans Charbonniere for a quick overnight stopover on a drive from Paris to the Toulouse region. The hotel was well located for a stopover, in that you don't need to drive into the city of Orleans itself, and has ample parking. The surrounding area however is completely industrial - this worked for us as we were stopping late afternoon and leaving first thing next day, but I would not recommend to visitors intending to actually check out the area.

We were however disappointed by the bed arrangements - we chose this hotel over others as it advertised having rooms with a double and two single beds. In fact this is a double bed and a sofa bed that opens in two parts. This was disappointing given we'd been expecting actual beds, had chosen this hotel on the basis that it offered them, and the hotel's response to our booking sheet which said as much was simply 'all our rooms are like this'. Given that the rate goes up for having twho children in what is essentially a double room we would likely have chosen differently had the hotel accurately described what it offered rather than overstating it.

The room was otherwise clean and pleasant, with a window that opened onto the open grass area behind and wood beyond. There is a pizza/pasta restaurant next door we went to for dinner which was good, but nothing else nearby. The hotel breakfast was basic and pricey for what was offered.

Superb Novotel Orleans Charbonniere

Hotel staff could not be friendlier, very professional but oh so welcoming. Easy to find from instructions sent, charming service from all staff. Our second year of using this hotel - and would have been more but they were booked up - we'll be back next year though.
Thank you Novotel Orleans Charbonniere for helping to make a great holiday perfect.

Lovely but a shame about the heat.

This hotel was lovely, in great condition with good facilities and helpful staff but we had a difficult nights sleep, particularly on the second night because it was hot and the room is not properly air conditioned.. There were four of us sleeping in the room.
The position of the curtains etc made it tricky to open the windows to try to get some air.

Superb!

Great access from and to the motorway. Great for overnight stop. Exceptionally clean, tidy and comfortable. Swimming pool as great bonus with young children after a long journey. Superb service, care and attention at Reception 24/7 and the bar/restaurant. Will definatley use again without question. Highly recommended.

Very nice hotel

Spending a couple of extra quid and enjoying the surroundings of a Novotel compared to the factory hotels like Formula 1 etc is worth every penny.

There's someone to greet you and sort out any problems, the bar is open and normally there's some food if you're not too late arriving.

The only negative about this location is that its quite a treck from the A10 motorway which takes you north/south through France. Also, watch out for the very expensive breakfasts which generally arent included in your stay. You only find out after you've eaten (thinking that it is included!) that you have to pay circa 15 Euros per head!!

Novotel Orleans

An ok hotel all in all. Two tips. (1) Get good directions before you go as the \"postcode\" for the hotel is not what we would expect in the UK, it is more like a US zip code and the sat nav directions took us quite a long way from the hotel down a cul-de-sac in a residential area. (2) The reception staff said that the restaurant did not open until 7 pm, so having an 11 month baby with us (whose usual eating time is 5pm!), we arrived bang on 7 pm to find the restaurant already full bar one table that we squeezed onto. The service was very slow and it was not helped by the fact that our last remaining table was located right by the entrance to the restaurant and so we were very concious of the stream of young familiies coming to the desk and being told that they would have to wait in the (very small) bar for a table. So the bottom line is that if you have young children, get there much earlier than 7 pm and grab a table. However, we would say that the food was pretty good.

Good deal

We spent one night at Novotel on our way to Paris. We were very pleased with the room (clean, quiet, with excellent beds, and Cartoon Network in English!) The staff was friendly and made our stay very enjoyable.
