Lack of security is a problem. Two men walked into the hotel and knocked on our door. No peep hole so my wife opened the door. They were “looking for a friend”. They ran out of the hotel when they saw me, her husband. Also, no one at the front desk when we checked out and anyone from the outside could have walked in and gone up to the rooms. No key required.

We stayed one night after a long day at Europa-Park, and this hotel was exactly what we needed. It’s a large, business-style property with a spacious lobby and plenty of seating. Even in heavy rain, arrival was easy thanks to the wide white-curb area in front of the lobby—you can pull your rental car right up without hunting for parking, which is rare in Europe.

Check-in was quick and friendly. Staff spoke English and German, and we were in our room within minutes. We had a family room with a queen bed and a sofa bed for the kids (9 and 12). The room was surprisingly spacious, with a table and chairs, lots of storage, and a complimentary minibar stocked with beer, soda, water, and juice.

A nice standout: the bathroom had shampoo, body wash and conditioner, which we rarely saw at other German hotels. The shower was fully enclosed and easy to use, and the overall room was clean and comfortable—nothing overly memorable or “boutique,” but very good quality. We slept well and would stay again.

The location is excellent if you're using the train. The station is directly across the street with two pedestrian bridges. From the front door, turn right, go up the ramp, cross the bridge, and take stairs or the elevator to your platform. Even with luggage, it was an easy walk.

A convenient, comfortable stay—great for families and perfect for train travel.

Amazing breakfast, very clean, all amenities other than a safe, great location next to trains and buses, very nice staff, only gripe is the addition of the use of the sofa bed in the room. It’s a bit hard you know your on it rather than a real bed but I would definitely stay again. There’s a pool too but we weren’t there long enough to benefit from it. Stayed with 2 teens.

The hotel feels a little tired, like a 90s decor, we ended up on the first floor at the front which meant you could hear the noise from the people and cars until late.
Having the windows open on tilt wasn’t great but the ventilation and not a/conditioning that i though it had was non existent, so made the choice of having the windows open.
The pool was a bonus though if not pretty cold and at least it had a sauna as well.
Still it was a good base to venture out and not a bad place for finding somewhere to eat in the evening.

This is an old hotel that has not been updated for many years and is not of the usual Novotel standard. Cleanliness was also poor - our room was not cleaned properly and we had to raise concerns about this.

The location is convenient though and Freiburg was beautiful. Breakfast was fine.

Very clean hotel, spacious rooms and excellent location when having to catch early transportation.
The only negative I would say is I booked this hotel in particular for the location, but more so because it had a pool. The pool looks far bigger in the pictures. 3-4 kids in there is almost enough to fill it. Pool and all areas were also very clean.

Perfect location

The hotel is in the perfect location - near to the train station and the city centre. Our room was a good size, bed was comfy, and there was a kettle for making tea and coffee, which was great. The only downside to our trip was the swimming pool and sauna were closed for renovations...and we had booked the hotel especially to use those facilities.

The cleaning staff shorted us towels and tea and left coffee cups in bathroom, it's like they were interrupted and abandon the room half way through, one way or another total screw up on the cleaning crew two of the four nights. It's an older hotel connected to Conference center. Of course they responded when we called, but we shouldn't have to.

Hotel has perfect location. It is 10 minutes walk from the old town. Restaurants are just around the corner. In addition, there is a railway station just across from the hotel. Room was clean with an and amazing view. Customer service at the reception was very friendly and very helpful. We spent two nights at the hotel, and we would like to thank hotel management for making our stay so comfortable. The only thing I would recommend is to change the pillows as some were a bit worn out.

After a six night stay in Novotel Munich we had a five night stay here in Novotel Freiburg. The difference in hotels was remarkable. The hotel in Munich was 5/5 but Freiburg Novotel was 1/5. The location is great - right by the station (trains, trams, buses) and town but that is where it ended. The description says it has a pool but for all six days it was ‘closed for cleaning’. We had travelled with a child and planned on using the pool every day so that was disappointing. The spa area was also closed ‘for cleaning’ throughout our stay. There was meant to be a bar/ restaurant area but that was often closed. For example we went to dine there Sunday night - closed. We then tried Monday night - closed. Breakfast is buffet style and is in a nice room and could be good if replenished but was sketchy. The hot food was poor quality and poorly cooked, the croissants dry, fruit non existent etc etc. The rooms are very tired and need refurbishing. Our air conditioning didn’t work and our tv broke down twice during our stay. The mini bar fridge didn’t work. The area is very noisy late at night as it’s on the way back to the station and you hear the drunks going home - quite a few hang around on the steps of the building next door too with the associated debris/smell. From about 5.45am the garbage vehicles, laundry, drinks deliveries start so don’t expect to sleep as you get woken up with the loud bangs. The staff aren’t interested and in hindsight we should have moved hotels on day 1.

They helped a lot for visitors
But the house keep service was terrible
When the glass was broken and they were all on the floor. We requested the house keeping immediately, but they arrived after 1hour (we called three times)
After this morning, when we came back to hotel, the piece of glasses were still on the cabinet and on the floor
And shampoo was not refilled for 2days
We should visit the reception again and received a small shampoo plastic bottles
We requested to refill the shampoo in the morning, nothing happened in the afternoon

A great hotel location, staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool, whilst fairly small, was a great addition, our children loved it! Parking was also very convenient, which is otherwise a real hassle in a city centre.

The real service level was After our stay. We left some items behind and they went out of their way to send them back, so great service even after the stay! Beyond the call of duty for sure. We’d definitely choose Novotel next time we visit.

The employees at the front desk were wonderful. Our issue is that we were issued a room on the second floor with a handicapped bathroom. If you took a shower the entire bathroom got wet, even the toilet paper and the entire bathroom floor was wet and slippery. I found myself wiping down the bathroom floor for safety. The shower curtain, that did not do much good, had mold growing on it. Early in the morning, 7:30 am, a delivery truck was directly under our window making lots of noise. For the price of this hotel and the reputation I was given of this brand I was disappointed.

NO Air-conditioning and poor staff service

There is NO AIR CONDITIONING in any of thr rooms in the hotel. It was 33 degrees scorching hot outside and the room was at least 30 degrees when we got inside. It is totally unacceptable at this day and age that there is no cooling for a room of that price, at what is supposedly \"4 star\" hotel. It was not obvious during the booking process that such a basic room feature of AC can be non-existent, and the staff only offered tiny desk fans which was of no use. In fact I had to go pick up the fan from reception myself cos there is \"no room service\" in the evening. This hotel definitely does not deserve the 4 stars nor the room price. Extremely disappointed and I will recommend friends to stay away from this hotel. Never again!!!

The hotel is one of the best in my trip, lovely and helpful staff. The room was great for family (lights a bit dim, but it seems all hotels the same).

The breakfast was very rich, we got free bar, very impressive and filled daily with beer, soft drinks and even chocolate.

I would for sure visit this hotel again, very recommended.

Not our best experience.

The room we initially got was a lot smaller then what we booked: no real place for the extra bed. We went down and got another room.
They charged us again. We found out and went to the desk. They had just found out themselves, they said. It can happen, but then profuse apologies would have been justified.
Overall the place was lacking on friendliness and customer orientation. The barman was nice though.
Breakfast was so so. Not bad, not great either.

Arriving last Saturday afternoon by train from Basel, wonderful to have accommodation so close to the station as first it started raining and then it began snowing. It was very cold in the evening and so I requested an extra duvet to keep warm - it was not enough as the air conditioning was set low and was blowing cool air in. Fortunately your spa is fantastically hot! Sunday I requested assistance from a very helpful young man. He opened one of the windows so that the air conditioning cut out and that seemed to work so that I had a much more pleasant nights sleep Sunday night
