Parking is 3 blocks away. No elevator made carrying our 50 pound bags to the fifth floor very challenging, not to mention the up and down 4 times a day. Room is also very very small.

The location was perfect, close enough for a 10 minute walk to munsterplatz but far enough away from old town to be easily accessed by car. The hotel was small, but had a distinctive charm. We especially enjoyed the hotel garden for reading.

I would love to let be this property. At the same time I don’t want to leave a bad review as I know only a few rooms are affected. First off, the staff and the location were absolutely lovely! However, when I arrived I realized my room was directly next to the front desk. There was no separation door or anything else to keep noise out. This wasn’t a problem until I wanted to sleep in a little later. And about 0630 the breakfast crowd started rolling in. From that point on, I heard EVERYTHING going on in the lobby. I think as long as you aren’t in those few rooms next to the reception area, you’ll have a fantastic stay!

A very well run family hotel close to the railway and the old city in a quiet street. A good size room for a single. The bed was firm which I wasn't used to but soon adapted. Be aware there is no lift but help is there if you need it.

Charming Hotel, Lovely Breakfast

We had a very nice stay at Hotel Barbara. Just three minutes walk from the train station and a very easy walk into the town center, the location was perfect. The room looked out into their beautiful garden and was very quiet. A few things in the room needed repair (safe and exterior blinds) but it wasn’t an issue. The staff was lovely and they offered a very nice breakfast. We would not hesitate to stay again.

The hotel Barbara is conveniently located near the train station and town. It was a very pleasant stay. My only complaint is that the sheets are scratchy and it felt like I was getting exfoliated every time I turned in bed.

Very friendly and accommodating receptionist. We arrived later so there was a nice courtyard to sit with the wine and snacks we brought and receptionist brought us plates and napkins. Simple and clean...very close to the train and bus station but you didn't hear much noise. Also right around corner of our go-to Italien restaurant. Would recommend and stay again.

I’ll certainly be back!

The hotel is very well located; close to the train station and a short walk to the city center. It is in a quiet neighborhood so a good night’s sleep is assured! The included breakfast is a to way to start off the day and a cocktail in the garden is the perfect way to end it. All of the staff is friendly and helpful. There is not a lift so carrying luggage up the stairs may be a concern for some; if so, request a room on a lower level. The air conditioning in the room is top notch (who says you don’t need air conditioning in Europe? Climate change is happening! Every summer sees heat waves in Europe now). All-around great experience. Hotel Barbara is highly recommended!

Quaint hotel close to old Freiburg

Hotel is a short distance from the railway station, a 7 minute walk if baggage not heavy, 4 minutes by taxi if chosen. My room was a single standard, with a small balcony.

The hotel is close to the theatre, concert Hall and movies, a short walk to old Freiburg, which is a delight to see. Not much happening in the area on a Sunday night in mid September. The little waterways for which Freiburg is well known were dry. Perhaps so after a long hot summer. Water level in the canal was also low.

Concierge recommended some great eating places in easy walking distance from the hotel.

This morning, as I was enjoying a cup of coffee and some toast spread with the delicious jam Hotel Barbara gave us on our departure, my thoughts went back to our recent stay with them. The front desk staff was so thoughtful and caring, making sure our time in their hotel was just right. The location was perfect to get to the Old Town.

We started each day with a delicious breakfast served in the hotel and arrived home, after our day's adventures, to a spotlessly cleaned room.

Charming yet modern

Hotel is very close to the train station but on a side street so still very quiet. Room was very clean and modern. I even had air conditioning. Staff was very helpful and spoke English if needed. Thoughout the hotel were historic pictures of Freiburg and explanations which added to the experience. A nice stay!!

quaint hotel in charming location

I had a wonderful experience with this quaint hotel. The staff was helpful and friendly and the complimentary breakfast was really pleasant with lots of nice options. The neighborhood is quite charming. Everything is walkable. The only negative is that my room was TINY. I was staying alone and was only there one night so it didn't bother me at all, but I could see it being an issue.

This is a small, pleasant hotel a short walk from the train station. It's in an old building without an elevator; this was fine by me but won't be to everyone's tastes. Breakfast was simple and typical of small German hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, nothing spectacular but nothing wrong at all, just a good, solid hotel experience typical of this genre in Germany.

Great Location, Great Atmosphere.

It's is conveniently located near the train station and a ten minute walk to the university. The city really exceeded our expectations. I came with my wife for a conference at the University and we've really enjoyed the city and how easy it is to get anywhere from the hotel. There are a bunch of restaurants and shops just a half block away. Free breakfast is even served each morning.

The room is on the small side for american standards but plenty large enough for us. I was a little aprehensive about having a \"double bed\" but its been great. Its two single mattress, but together feels as large as our bed at home. The staff is friendly and bilingual which was nice because - mein Duetch ist nicht gut.

I would love to stay here again on our next stay in Freiburg. Hopefully that will be soon!

Great Hotel!

The hotel is only a few minutes from both the train station and the Altstadt (Old Town). There is no elevator, so please be aware of this. The staff will gladly help you with your bags up them. The staff also spoke English well and were very knowledgeable about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there.

We had 5 nights here, back when we booked last year we requested a room on a lower floor because my wife is bad with her hips as we had seen reviews which said there was no lift, so we were surprised to be put on the 3rd floor with lots of steps (no lift) which was most dissapointing, breakfast was average and only the addition of a boiled egg available and the room was tiny with small tables so very cramped, on the last morning as we were travelling home we ordered a boiled egg but it never arrived and mentioned it on our way to pickup our cases, they did appologise and offered us a bottle of wine as an appology but as we were flying had to reject it, the staff overall were very pleasant and on arrival did take our cases up to the rooms but coming home only ladies on duty and had to bring our own down 3 floors.

The perfect little hotel

I love this hotel and will be staying again when I'm back!! The hotel is very traditional in decor, located in a perfect spot, close to restaurants, HBF and the main city. Parking was an easy 1 min drive. The receptionist were lovely and helpful, the room (+ bathroom) was big and clean with a desk and nice extra table, well equipped room plus little mini bar, wifi worked perfectly. And breakfast was delicious, traditional German but just lovely with nice linen and plates.

No complaints, just a big thumbs up to the owners/managers/staff for running a lovely small hotel.

A conveniently-situated, lovely, little hotel

Hotel Barbara is a nice little hotel conveniently situated between the Freiburg train station and altstadt. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff was at this hotel. I also found the breakfast room in the morning to be absolutely lovely, well-decorated and charming. I appreciated the offer of a freshly boiled egg with my breakfast. My room had a good-sized, modern bathroom in it. I found having a supermarket at the end of the block to be very convenient. The desk clerk suggested the Italian restaurant, also at the end of the block, one night, where I had a very good meal.

More a comment than a complaint: Be aware that the hotel does not have an elevator.

Unfortunately my bed had a type of foam mattress that I found uncomfortable. It gave me a back-ache. While I enjoyed staying at the hotel for all the other stated reasons, I did not sleep well the 3 nights I was there.

Very much enjoyed our stay here. Nicely decorated for the season, nice small touches everywhere made it a warm and welcoming hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location is perfect for visiting the town. The only downside was a very small room that was a bit uncomfortable and pillows that were quite uncomfortable. Although we were fine with it, it should be noted that the hotel does not have an elevator.

Good room condition, good location but slow wifi

Stayed in room 11 which is right next to the pedestrian walkway and road. With the window slightly opened, it is kind of nosy and can hear people talking as they walk pass. The lights in the room is a little dim as compared to the bathroom. The room is quite small with 2 single bed joined together, with a mini bar fridge, small LCD TV and hairdryer. The small bathroom looks fine and compact.
Their wifi is slow but accessible in the room and dining hall.
The breakfast spread is not wide, mainly western style. They will asked if you want hardboiled eggs.
The hotel is located less than 5mins walk from the train station, and less than 10mins walk to the Munster.

Can't fault anything; such a good location for both tourist sights & train station, hotel in immaculate condition, very friendly and helpful staff, fantastic room, etc. But what really made it for us was when they knew we had to leave very early for our train the next day, they got up and made breakfast for us an hour earlier than their usual time. Great place, perfect location, loved balcony!

Very cozy hotel, nice breakfast, nice location, nice people working there. It is a lovely old building with a grand staircase (no elevator, so if you mind carting your luggage up 3 or 4 flights of stairs, ask for a room on the main or 1st floor. We asked for a room with a balcony and were given a very small room with a lovely, huge balcony that made us feel like locals. Bathroom is small but everything you need is there.

すごく素敵なホテルです。

今回宿泊した部屋にはバルコニーもあり、クラシックな雰囲気なのに水回りもよく、エアコンもありました。
ホテル自体がとてもアットホームな雰囲気で、
入り口は常に施錠されているので安心です。
駅からも近く、石畳が若干あり、少しだけ坂道ですがフラットなのでアクセスも良かったです。
フロント？って感じのフロントが2階にあり、エレベーターと冷蔵庫はなかったです。
スタッフの方々はとても優しくて、次のフライブルクも絶対に宿泊します。

Sehr gutes Frühstück und sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter am Empfang und Frühstückssaal.

Das Gebäude und die Zimmer sind aber arg in die Jahre gekommen. Die Matratzen waren steinhart (aber das mag natürlich jeder anders beurteilen). Unser Zimmer klein, aber dafür ein schöner Balkon dabei.

Was wirklich enttäuschend war, war der Zustand und die Sauberkeit der Zimmer. Zwar wurde auf Wunsch auch an jedem einzelnen Tag Zimmerservice angeboten (falls man das wollte). Die Zimmer waren aber bereits bei Ankunft teils wirklich unzureichend gepflegt. Staubig, schmutzige Zahnputzbecher. Da nutzt es auch nichts, wenn man jeden Tag die Zimmer-\"Reinigung\" bestellt hätte - auch sie Zimmer der Mitreisenden waren so, d.h. es ist ein allgemeines Problem.

Bei dem doch recht hohen Preis für eine Übernachtung darf das nicht sein.

So leider insgesamt nur drei Sterne - obwohl ansonsten mit Blick auf Frühstück und Freundlichkeit vier Sterne angemessen wären.

Jeg drar gjerne hit igjen

Flott hotell i en flott by. Frokosten var typisk slik den er for små private hoteller, smakfull og individuell, med vanlig mat og frokost-egg på bestilling. Rengjøringen var litt preget av Korona, det hadde samlet seg en del støv under sengen som ikke ble oppdaget, men ellers helt perfekt.

Freibug in Corona Zeiten :)

Ein sehr familiär geführtes Haus, sehr sauber! Auch in Corona Zeiten gab es ein ausgiebiges und leckeres Frühstück. Das Haus liegt sehr zentral egal ob man beruflich oder auf sightseeing in Freiburg ist.
