Breakfast not included (rare for 4stars hotel) and because we booked the room through Expedia we weren’t given the option to select and pay for breakfast in advance and thank god for that as we had 2 rooms (4 adults) and was going to cost us €80. Mediocre breakfast and pricy what it offers compared with all the other hotels that we stayed in Greece. Nice personnel at reception desk, great location. Ok overall

We stayed in the Suite (Panoramic Meteora View) room. We booked a two-day Meteora tour from Athens but booked this hotel separately. Maybe it was our lack of understanding of the area but the hotel is in Kastraki (city? area?) that is a bit far from the city center of Kalabaka. Restaurant choices are very limited around the hotel but it is closer to Meteora. For us, it turned out to be a bit inconvenient. The hotel building was rated quite high so I was a bit surprised how old the building was. The room smelled like an old apartment. The shower was really small and it was kind of odd. Based on their rating, I expected more. A/C in the room worked fine. Wifi was adequate. The view from the room was okay. You can see Meteora rock formations from the room but \"panoramic Meteora view\" seems to be an overstatement. Breakfast was nice and they offered many choices. You need to walk about 5 minutes to the closest ATM machine if you need cash for visiting monasteries. I recommend staying near the city center of Kalabaka.

Ok but could be better.

The hotel was nice and clean. But the air conditioning in our room and our friend’s room did not work and so it was a very uncomfortable night with not great sleep. Also there is no elevator so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs to your room which could be an issue for some people. But the breakfast was good and staff was nice.

The Hotel had amazing views of Meteora. We were taken around the monastery’s by a private driver named Panos set up by the hotel. He had tremendous knowledge of the history and knew incredible places to eat. We absolutely loved it. Well worth the perfect visit!

They had great information on the Meteora monasteries. It was walking distance to the trail to start the long hike up the mountain. The staff answered all our questions. Nice view of the mountains from our room deck.

Miserable Night in the Heat

The staff at Hotel Kastraki were friendly and kind. The location was good for exploring Meteora. Our room had a view of the rocks, however, we couldn't enjoy it due to the heat--we had to keep the shutters closed to keep the room cool. The air conditioner could not keep up with the heat. It was miserably hot in the room. I would not recommend this hotel in summer. The hotel is really dated.

We rented e-bikes (35€ ea/24hrs) and this hotel was a perfect jumping off point. We had the end room overlooking the front parking with a great view of the rock formations from our balcony. The front staff could not have been more accommodating. Very happy with choice.

Fabulous hotel and setting. Excellent staff who are very helpfull and tell you the best way to get to what you want to see. The rooms are supurb and large and very quiet with good aircon. Breakfast is excellent with plenty to eat. We walked to St Nicholas in 10 minutes and then walked up the path to the 2 monasterys at Grand Meteora which took about 45 minutes. All the monasterys are stunning. We asked the hotel about seeing the sunset from sunset rock and they organised a 2 hour taxi tour by Panos at Meteorataxi which was brilliant and Panos was very knowledgeable and very reasonably priced. We had a very memorable evening and would recommend it to anyone. We came to Kistraki by train from Athens and the staff at the hotel helped with everything we needed. We also cought the local bus outside the hotel to St Stephens Monastery and then walked to The Holy Trinity where you can find the path that leads back down to Kalambaca which takes about an hour and is great but would be very slippy if wet. Kalambaca to Kastraki takes a out 45 minutes to walk back to or you can get a bus. Loads of local taverns to eat at in Kastri. The receptionist even made us a pack lunch on the day we left as we were to early for breakfast which was a lovely touch. It's a perfect place to stay.

I arrived after dark and was able to park directly in front of the entrance. The staff was welcoming and helped me to choose a restaurant for dinner. The included breakfast was very good with several choices.The room was clean and quiet and had a balcony that I didn't get to use because I had an early morning pickup for a Meteora hike. The hotel permitted me to leave my car in front for half the day while I was hiking and offered to store my suitcase until I returned.

The beds were incredibly comfortable - the best of all the places we stayed, and there was a large and varied breakfast spread, though the options were not as tasty as other hotels we stayed at in Greece.

The Hotel conditions were very poor, not AC at all, the mini fridge didn’t work, we had to sleep with windows open, we complained about it, no one checked out on us. The AC unit was liking water on the hallway floor. There was not elevator, we had to use the stairs with all our suitcases ON TWO FLOORS after 4 hours driving from Athens. There was not parking lot available. Just one girl from the staff was nice and courteous but the rest were very nasty and rude. Definitely I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. It looks like they don’t care about their customer. Very disappointed.

This hotel is nice in an antique way, but it could use some updating. The AC in both of our rooms made the room hotter, which was unpleasant. Also, I would highly recommend that you don't eat at the place recommended by the front desk. Only after did I see a review that says it's run by the front desk's family; the food and service at that place were atrocious.

Hotel Kastraki is on the road leading to the Meteora monasteries, walking distance to the first one. The hotel was in good condition. Staff are welcoming and helpful with local information. I checked in after visiting the monasteries, but was recommended to return to the hill area later to view the sunset. This was easily done by car and I'm glad I did - a spectacular sight.

Brilliant location and a great breakfast makes this a hotel of choice for those who want to explore the Meteora area. Kastraki is the smaller and more quiet of the two places where people usually stay to visit Meteora. Travel between them is very convenient, and we enjoyed restaurants in both towns. The mountains are accessible by foot from the hotel (small hike), so you really can't do much better location wise.

It seems extra hard to get a queen size bed in Greece. Beds were comfortable enough but hate the 2 single beds - we always fall in the middle. We travel in the \"off season\" on purpose so understand updates and construction - just didn't expect it to be right next door. Staff was helpful with directions on what was open and what to see.

The Kastraki Hotel is located in the perfect spot to visit Meteora. The drive from the Kastraki is the best way to approach Meteora. The views are amazing.
The hotel has nice rooms, some with views of the rock formations.
The breakfast was plentiful, and well presented.

Overall the hotel was well kept and very clean, it was just a bit dated. Breakfast was very good and all staff very friendly. Only notable issue was that the towels smelled strongly of mothballs, but that isn't anything significant. At least we knew they were clean and stored in a manner to keep pests at bay!

Everything worked (e.g., air con, water pressure), and the staff had a military efficiency; obviously, the boss was a tough cookie ; ) The room was spacious and had a nice little balcony. One recommendation: a coffee maker in the room, like most of the other hotels we stayed at in Greece in this price range, or at least a free coffee service in the lobby; it would have been so nice for so little.

Overall, the hotel is great. Really great location - very close to Meteora and the staff is helpful. This is not in the center of the city so if a more active local scene is desired, this is not the spot for that. The biggest frustration was the bed - it was very very hard and incredibly inconvenient to sleep on. We had a very hard time sleeping and woke up with back pain. Not sure if this is in all the rooms but this was def. the biggest issue. If the mattresses are swapped, this place would be amazing.

Fab combo of Classy, Modern, Traditional & Perfect

Our family stayed in hotel Kastraki only one night and we were very pleased with our choice. Although our room was on a (very) small side – the décor of the room and the hotel was ..classy yet modern yet traditional.. A very nice combination! Luck of space could be due to “triple-occupancy” room: we had one king and one twin bed for our teenager. Very comfortable beds (we were starting to get used to firm simple beds in other typical Greek hotels and boom, the bedding was real heaven and it was hard to wake up and leave those beds in the morning! :)) Very nice spacious washroom, great Wifi and plenty of parking on both side of the hotel!
The location of the hotel is fantastic in proximity to Monasteries, and in our opinion to be situated in Kastraki was much more pleasant than in a busy Kalambaka. Staff was very pleasant and informative and gave us plenty of suggestions on what to do and better ways to do it which helped us to maximize our time we spent in the area.
“Continental” Breakfast was amazing (not sure if “continental” is correct word to describe hot and cold breakfast dishes, enormous variety of pastries and homemade pies, as well as yogurt, spreads, cheeses, fruits and etc) - incredible selection for any taste!
It is a lovely and well managed hotel, perfectly positioned to explore Meteora, a great place to get a peaceful rest and good nigh sleep after busy day(s) and a perfect start for the next day with their superb breakfast!

A good choice for exploring Meteora

This hotel has the great advantage of being located ideally for Meteora. It is very well maintained but has very limited service (no clothes cleaning, minimal amenities in the room, no hot water pot or coffe/tea in room) but the staff is very friendly and willing to provide hot water if asked. Coffees are available and very nice at local reasonable prices. We did not take breakfast so I have no opinion on it. The room was comfortable and it made for a good stay overall.

The staff was great, breakfast was good and only €5. The room was tiny and there was an AC unit but it was really just a fan so the room was very hot and stuffy. We opened the windows for some air and were inundated with flies.

Great Stay

The location was great, the reception helped us with anything we needed including calling taxis and organizing tours, they even helped us organize our travel help us leave the hotel. We had to alter our reservation a day before we arrived and they even helped us with that. Overall it was a great stay and great value

A Good Base to Visit the Monasteries of Meteora

We stayed here one night, to see the monasteries of Meteora. The hotel is a bit out of the town of Kastraki, but that suited us as the day tour company (Visit Meteora Travel) picked us up at our hotel and dropped us wherever we wanted to go. The breakfast was surprisingly lavish.
