My lovely wife Sherry & myselfstayed here for 2 weeks, while visiting family and sight seeing. the hotel is walking distance to stores & restaurants. very close to center of downtown Cebu.
We had a secondary wedding vows and beautifully set up dinner with the help of the Hotel. The staff where excellent in every way helping with our needs... When I travel I want the best, I am very pelite when I ask for things,,, and I ask for a lot !!
Really the Hotel Staff where Great. We will always stay their when visiting Cebu.
The food, breakfast, dinner, lunch--Great... Amenities also great.
Very Quite VERY... away from the Nosiy streets. Grades relaxing.
A 5 STAR from us and our friends....

The Montebello Hotel is one of the oldest Hotels in Cebu me and my wife were newly married and on our Honeymoon.. The Hotel is being preserved well But shows many repairs to the rooms over the years. Dinning by the Olympic size pool creates a wonderful atmosphere and compliments the surrounding gardens. the staff is very helpful when asked. you will enjoy the ambiance when you stay. improvements to the property needed is maintaining and cleaning the mold in the bathroom which was apparent in the shower and commode area. Upon arrival we booked a room 6 months prior with a queen size bed and was informed that they cannot provide the queen size bed The property claimed that they do not guarantee the queen size bed booked. We informed the property that payment for a queen size room was prepaid and needs to be provided. The next day we were moved to the room with a queen size bed. The start of the honeymoon was a little disappointing for us.

We were given a room in the old wing and was adviced there is a constructions going on at a certain time frame....the night rolled on kinda smoothly, however, the said noise from the construction started an hour ahead! We complained about three times and still the noise was horrible...we were eventually transferred to the new wing suite despite the few hours left before we check out. We were also given an extra hour to stay. Well, so far so good...but i would definitely prefer the new wing than the old, kinda musty one.

The rooms here range from just-okay to great, and priced accordingly, so you can choose what you like ..or need. The staff here are great, doesn't matter what position they're in, they're all very friendly and helpful.

I've been staying here over the past 15 years when visiting Cebu and Montebello Villa is no longer a secret, so check them out and book early ..it does get sold out.

Pleasant stay at Montebello

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in mid-September 2019.

This is an older property (opened in 1972!) but it is very charming and has beautiful grounds. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful.

My room was fairly comfortable, although the mattress was a hard foam -- definitely not a Western 5-star hotel mattress. I like harder beds so it was fine. If you don't, you might be unhappy.

Breakfast was included and is a nice buffet with a good combination of Eastern and Western choices.

I would say my biggest complaint was the mattress and lack of outlets in my room to charge my devices. There was only one outlet that was readily accessible, and then another behind the bed that you could access if you worked at it (move the bed, plug in device, move bed back).

The bathroom was also quite small. If you're bigger than about 6 feet or 200 lbs you will feel cramped.

Another oddity was the deposit on check-in; it was 3000 PHP and you can pay it with a credit card but the front desk told me it takes up to 2 weeks to refund it and suggested that I use cash instead. It was only $60 USD but I didn't like the idea of the charge lingering on my card for 2 weeks so I chose the cash option. They gave me a hand-written receipt, and when I checked out gave me back the cash. A little bit odd, but fine.

Overall, despite this nit picking, I was happy with the experience. I would come back to Montebello.

Gate needs a reflector

The gate by the guardhouse should not have a black paint. Late nights the gate is halfway close and you can’t see the gate when your driving. I am not surprise when accidents will happen anytime. I already told the front desk 2X. I hope someone from the management will read this post.

Great hotel with an oasis type feel in the middle of busy Cebu! Only problem is the service in the restro’s. The staff have no concept of anticipating your needs. You have to ask or call someone to your table every time you need service. But aside from that, it’s really nice.

Every staff is friendly specially the reception and pool attendants, except for the security officer in the entrance, she's a bit rude. Also, there are lots of mosquitoes inside the room(room is gardenside). Hence, my kids didn't have comfortable sleep.

The Montebello Villa property is an oasis in the desert of commotion in Cebu City. For this ex Angelino -27 years in Santa Monica - the Gardens and grounds equal or exceed the ambiance of the Bel Air Hotel in Stone Canyon. Public areas are spotless and the staff are friendly, overly accommodating, and are required to be a well educated for employment. The matriarch owner is in her early 80s and makes daily rounds of the gardens and knows her employees. Very good food - always opt for the breakfast buffet with the room - the best I’ve had anywhere. Great pools - The hotel is the bomb.

I’m disappointed with the room I was given with I though I book from Expedia a deluxe room to my surprise it was old standard frustrating gloomy room no character except very depressing with two single beds 🛌 which causes my husband had a fall from bed so I have to spend more money to upgrade our room for it was very much disappointing I’ve been in this hotel too many times but this time was disappointing room but what I like are this hard working staffs from cleaners , to bell boys , and all staffs at the restaurant were amazing as well as Cafe Terraza staff were fabulous that’s all

This is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I make a point of finding a way of staying there for a few days every time I visit the Philippines. Beautiful and comfortable rooms, two fantastic pools, incredible breakfast choice and you don't get ripped off when buying food or drinks. I absolutely love the place and it really is incredibly hard to remember that you are in the centre of the city. Very quiet and relaxing, absolutely no need to venture out of the place - just relax and enjoy.

The hotel is clean, beautiful, and centrally located. The hotel staff are very kind, polite, and helpful. My room came with the complimentary breakfast buffet, which is delicious. It includes both Western and Filipino dishes. There is a large cafe and bar area near the hotel's main swimming pool. The drinks are delicious. I esoecially enjoyed the deluxe iced teas, infused with fresh fruit juices. I would describe the best part of the hotel as its old-world charm. The atmosphere is elegant, yet relaxed. You have access to internet, if you need it. You are located in a convenient part of town, with shopping nearby. What more do you want for a vacation stay? I highly recommend it.

the large pool was closed for repair and i was only informed of this 3 days before i flew out,the repair work went on till 8 at night with heavy breakers being used right outside the main restaurant,which was loud even at breakfast and evening meal,if i would have been informed in time i would have cancelled and gone another time.even the small pool that was open was effected by the noise.
The staff cannot be faulted at all excellent is the only word to describe them and in general the hotel is exceptionally clean and tidy,the food at all meals cant be faulted in any way and i do intend to return there in April next year if no repair work is going on.

Great Stay!

We had a very pleasant experience. Staff were very polite and always greet us with a smile. The room was clean and it was just a step away from the resort pool. Our calls to the housekeeping and front desk were answered promptly and were attended to right away. I love the notes made by the housekeeper in response to our thank you note. There's a personal touch to it.

Room 4224 is at the end of level 4 too far away to walk for a 72 year old. No elevator. Bathroom shower area need to be cleaned or replaced, carpet in the room has big dark spot, no plug in for coffee maker had to do it in the bathroom because only one is used for the fridge. Queen size bed side has no plug for C-PAP machine. Reception was nice.

Hidden gem in the heart of the city

This is a beautiful garden resort in the heart of the city. Great food. Great staff. Beautiful gardens and pool area. New fitness facility. Stunning pond and bridge. The overall property is a hidden gem. I've stayed here before and will stay here again. An older hotel in fantastic shape with modern upgrades. This is the only choice for me in Cebu. The unique spanish style makes it one of a kind in the city. This hotel is underrated and is easily a 4 star plus.

Stay away. Not Good!

Terrible hotel at the price of $80-90. If i have seen this hotel before booking it I woukd niot pay $30.
Dirty bathroom. Shower head is less than 5 feet tall. Very old and noisy aircon whick is manual and about 10-15 years old could be 20.
Dirty smelly carpet. When I asked the reception about changing room immediate answer is talk to the booking agent or pay more for an upgrade. Look I already paid $75 after si ouny and this looks like a guest hiuse worth $30.
Maybe if you are not a Filipino they will put you in a better room.
Never again!

Hotel was fully booked, so I had to stay in low price room, which is much smaller and less adaptable than the Premium rooms. However, it was my fault for waiting so long to make a reservation, haha. These rooms do not have personal safe, and no charging outlets by bedside. These lower price rooms do not have the same features as the premium room: no face cloth, no hand towel, less array of bathroom products, tiny bathroom, old aircon unit (loud, so I wear earplugs), almost no space for clothes to be unpacked. However, it was super clean, bed is comfy, shower was updated, and of course, the room allows access to the remarkable and wonderful hotel grounds, which I love. So even with the discomfort of the downgraded room, I make the booking here, my favorite hotel in the Philippines. It is less than PHP100 taxi ride to anyplace in the city, because it is central.
I love this hotel. I hate giving good reviews because now everyone staying here fills it up. When I first started coming here, it was less crowded haha.

Too many parties right by my room, could not sleep. Kept me and my family up tell 1-2 in the morning. Being A hotel guest your 2nd priority to there parties, Even at dinner they cut are music short not to interrupt one of there parties! No service at breakfast, more people standing around to make sue you pay then service!

When our group of 8 arrived they had upgraded our room for free. The hot water in our room did not remain an even temperature. Upon checking out they continued to argue that we ate a candy bar and coke, which we did not. I was also not aware of the policy that no outside food was allowed, except to be eaten in your private room. We were in hurry trying to get to the airport and my guest were yelled at for eating in the lobby. The staff waited until I, the group leader, went back to the room to yell at them. It just left a bad taste and lack of hospitality and understanding of the situation. I filed a complaint, was listened to, but was offered nothing for my grief. I did frequent this hotel, many nice memories there, but alas it is tainted now and most likely will not return.

while I was there they had some building work going on, to be honest I hardly heard it and the sites were well obscured from view. So they only downside from that was that there were some facilities not available.

Also I must stay I was surprised to find Expedia were the cheapest for this hotels Premiere rooms so that saved me some money to spend on other things :)

Upon entering this hotel, I was impressed by the size and workmanship of the hotel. Professional looking staff and beautiful scenery.

The lobby was squelching hot, unbearable. I was forced to wait in the lobby for 2.5 hours as checking was 3pm. Check out was at 12:00 for guests, so I found it extremely rude that an early check in wasn't provided.

I basic food purchased was at an extortionate price and below standard for the price.

At breakfast time we had not choice but to sit at a table in the burning sun as all other seats were taken. Too many empty reserved tables while we suffered. Actually my 2 year old sun had been burnt unnessesarily due to this.

I would not recommend this hotel, so many better choices in Cebu.

Delicious buffet breakfast. Great pool with bar area and seating close by. Friendly efficient staff. Comfortable bed. Strong hot shower. The fourth time I've stayed here and it always measures up.
Ideal for families, couples, solo travellers.
Handy to a good mall which has everything you need. Far from the dirt and grime of downtown, yet only P100 in a taxi to most places.

Nice place to stay, quiet, and big pool

1st time on this hotel and we love it specially our kids they love swimming, fishing in a pond, trees sorround the hotel big space to run around, food are great for free breakfast, it cost a lot to eat in, the place always keep clean, stuff are great, cheap hotel if you booked online half price than walk in price, room 4216 need a new bearing for a balcony door it makes so much noise when you slide the door sounds like a thunder, housekeeping clean the room everyday, I would rate 4/5 definitely we stay again, and again.

Not a great experience

I was disappointed with my stay here for three reasons:

1. They had the same song on repeat in the hotel reception area... this may sound a bit picky, but I was early and invited to wait in the seating area and then became aware of the same song over and over again. Felt like some form of middle class torture...

2. The room was over a third smaller than shown on hotels.com site when booking.

3. There were more staff than customers at breakfast but I still had to get out of my seat and go across to them in order to get a refill for my coffee.

There are much better hotels in Cebu than this one.

Avoid saying at this Hotel

The Hotel lack of professional staff who know hospitality, most of the girls act like they just come from the mountains. I hate to see Filipino treat each others as left over citizen, the staff at this hotel treat Filipino that way regardless if you are a doctor or an engieer, they dance alot to a Europian looking gust. This will be my last visit to this hotel, there are many good hotels in cebu.

wouldn't go back

After 12+ trips to Cebu over the past 5 years, I thought I would try a different hotel than my usual choice (The Henry). The hotel staff were friendly, but that doesn't make up for a poor management team. The genius management director decided to allow a 6:15 am Saturday morning Zoomba class (complete with PA system) outside on the lawn next to my window. When I complained to the front desk, they turned the music UP and the class lasted 50 minutes. I later spoke to the front desk manager and all she could say was \"sorry.\" For a hotel celebrating their 45th anniversary as a hotel this year, I can't believe they have made it this long. They will never get another peso from me.

Also, due to their location BEHIND the mall,. it is painfully difficult to get a taxi. I will NEVER do back and will only stay at the Henry from now on.

Oh what a shame

I was unable to get a sun lounger most days, a wedding was held on one day on the grass and the music and noise ruined my family's whole day as not only were we able to enjoy somewhere to sit around the pool we had nowhere to sit at all. I found cockroaches in our room and the halllway to our rooms. In all a very disappointing stay at your hotel.

Oasis of green and peace in Cebu City

I and my husband had a pleasant stay in this hotel. Peaceful, with beatiful garden and a restaurant very nice near the swimming pool where you can have a good breakfast and a tasty dinner. The room are wide and confy. The only negative thing the aircon that it is a little bit noisy and behind the bedside table was not cleaned by time. The restaurant's staff is kind and attentive. The same for the congierge's staff. But not the same for reception. I made a reservation of 2 messages in our room at 5 pm and only after I called the reception at 5.15 asking why the terapists did not come, they told me the terapists could come only after 45 minutes. I cancelled the reservations! But it was the only not good service! I will come back again at Montebello!

Suburban low rise garden hotel

Stayed 5 days while visiting friends who live close by so very convenient for us.
Older style hotel but we enjoyed the open plan lay out and garden setting.

The 2nd floor rooms had old carpets that stunk so bad. Staff was very helpful and moved us to 1st floor without any hassle. The overall facility was very nice and traditional but the rooms definitely needs upgrading
