The pictures posted on your site are completly misleading. Absolutely awful. Completly run down both inside and outside! Trading standards will be made aware of this. It must of been a number of years since any care was put into the place. It took 10 minutes for the hot water to warm up in which time both sides of the shower leaked and the doors didn’t close. Pathetic attempt of a desk and ‘wardrobe’ with cracked wood and nails on show. And to be told that the road would be closed from 8 and breakfast had to be early because the football lot would be in by 9 is a joke. Safe to say breakfast was left as we couldn’t get away quick enough. Only reason we stayed was cause we live over 3 hours away. A mixture of the tv programme shameless/shaun of the dead and Jeremy Kyle is how I would sum this experience up. I will be looking for a refund and will 100% book another stay through this site.

The hotel was full of people who I am unsure have a room booking. Lots of unpleasant noise from the rooms. The room itself was smelly and dirty. The reception staff were pleasant enough,We could not stay there so we moved to another hotel. Cheap and unpleasant would not go back there.

The moment I walked into the entrance, my expression was This is a homeless shelter or some kind of asylum.

The hotel room was booked for my son and me. On our approach to the entrance of the so-called hotel, we were met with three individuals who were just in the entrance smoking what we could perceive as \"Weed\", while spitting just outside the entrance. From that moment, we did not feel safe staying at the hotel. On entry, in what looks like a bar/reception, we meet a lady who at first was unable to find our reservation. During this time, my son went back to the car as he did not feel safe being at the premises. I then asked the lady to cancel the reservation when she finally found it. However, she refused even though it stated on their booking reservation email that cancellation could be done until 11:30 pm. We were at the hotel at 11 pm.
The room was dirty, hairs all over the bed, carpet was filthy. There is nothing Royal about this so-called hotel.
We then left the hotel and made another reservation at the Park Regis Hotel Birmingham.
I will be contacting Trading Standards if I am not issued a refund.

Absolutely filthy. One very small lamp so very dark bathroom wall light not working the 2 bedlights not working. Cobwebs everywhere the radiator full of filth. 2 pictures has something spashed all over them and one has brocken glass. One bedside cabinet which was filthy with paint coming off. Bathroom shower doors not cleaned full of hand marks. All around base of shower and around the toilet hasn't been cleaned for gosh knows how long. The vent in ceiling looked like a mouse has made a bed up there. No drinking glasses and tea bags out of a multipack so bags exposed to dirt. The only good thing was bar lady very nice and drinks cheap cant comment on breakfast as felt it would not be very hygienic due to the state and dirt of room.

I found my experience at this hotel to be somewhat of a shock. To start the pictures provided by Hotel.com are false advertisment and dont effectively reflect the condition of this hotel. My door had scratches around the key card lock and evidence to suggest attempted break ins. Supporting this the door didnt lock unless with a very stern pull on the door. The carpets have stains all over and ripped up under the bed, the shower was dirty (had to clean myself), bathroom tiles were loose, furniture was dirty/stained, curtains were old/stained, lighting is dim as the only light available it by a bedside light and desk lamp. Overall one of the worst rooms I have stayed in.

Lastly I understood this was situated over a pub but didnt expect to have to fight through drunk crowds to access my room in the evening. As well as this breakfast is offered but not served and no oppurtunity was provided and the seating and furniture is that of a well used and dated pub not somewhere that accomdates a breakfast service.

This was a truly unacceptable stay. Security was nonexistent, as the main room door, bathroom door, and window all failed to shut or lock properly. Furthermore, the parking lot was hazardous, covered in smashed glass.

The level of filth throughout the property was shocking. The carpets were uncleaned, and the wardrobe had disgusting, dried streaks that looked like uncleaned sick. The shower head was completely black with grime, and what appeared to be black mold marks were visible on the curtains and all public banisters.

Functionality was equally poor. The TV and WiFi didn't work, and the room was lit by only a single light source on the ceiling. Overall, the entire property was profoundly unclean and had an unpleasant smell. This establishment is in severe need of deep cleaning, maintenance, and basic safety inspections. I cannot recommend it.

This Royal George hotel is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
It is nothing like it's pictures on line, the place is run down, stinking and needs pulling down, how this place is still trading is beyond me.
Let me explain ...... I (like you) needed to book a hotel close to the center of Birmingham for one night, after checking the internet I came across The Royal George Hotel/Bar, it looks great on line (but it's not) it's a dump, when I arrived I walked into the bar (as there is no signage for the hotel) and was met by the roughest looking people (no offence) you will ever meet, the smell of human pee and people smoking weed was overpowering, the woman behind the bar asked me my name and said go into the back room to check in. The back room was another bar with a heavily stained pool table and wooden seats with no cushions, I was told I was on the first floor and she pointed to a lift and said use that (not sure if the place had stairs to the first floor) got in the lift which was yet another scary experience due to the lift car moving down slightly as I stood on it, got out on the first floor, the smell of human pee was making me feel sick, got into my room and again the smell hits you, the mattress had no springs in it so you just laid on the hard board of the bed base, the 1950s carpet was a mixture of 3 different heavily stained carpets, the room door did not lock, the bathroom was filthy, I stayed 40 mins, in that 40mins I booked a real hotel and left.

To start with the positives: the staff were really nice, the room was clean, and the breakfast was good. However, my room's window did not close properly, which meant that all the noise from the busy street and the cigarette smoke of the people smoking in front of the building came into my room. The bed was so wobbly I was scared it would collapse under my weight. Fortunately, it didn't. I was not happy that there was no storage space in the room: no shelves, only one hanger, no hooks or pegs. The sign in the room said that I would find the WiFi password on the invoice, but I did not receive an invoice. I did not receive anything at check-in, other than the key. The hotels.com receipt did not have a code, and none of the other communications from the hotel had it. On the plus side, I had good mobile reception, so I could use my mobile net. The emails from the hotel were confusing and misleading. They explained how to get to the car park at a different hotel, they explained how I can cancel my booking at a different travel company, not hotels.com, and they promised deep shag-pile carpet. There was no carpet in the room.

The place is extremely dirty and unsafe. When we contact hotels.com, they won't refund or relocate us, basically the did nothing. I absolutely hate it as i've been booked through Hotels.com for a long time and if they don't resolve this, i'm going to stop using it. Other online agent is a long better and cheaper.
We only sit down for 15mins and there are fleas and lices jump on us. Make us very itchy. We just can't stay there overnight.it's never 3 stars ar all!

🚨AVOID AVOID AVOID🚨
Terrible experience. I booked this place for my two young daughters and regret it completely. Firstly, the accommodation looks nothing like the pictures shown online. Secondly, it’s actually a hotel inside a pub — not a pub/bar attached to a hotel as advertised, which makes it very unsuitable for families. Most importantly, my daughters developed skin rashes and blisters after staying here, which strongly suggests bed bugs. Absolutely unacceptable. I would never recommend this place, especially for families with children.

The check in was ok. But my room key was not working and was asked to pick up another which was quite inconvenient. We were traveling with an infant which was part of the booking but the reception and first floor smelled alcohol. When I returned back from dinner late at night the door was closed and upon calling the reception a drunk person came and opened the door who couldn’t even work properly. I felt very unsafe and uncomfortable with the whole setup especially as a first time staying there with family. Would not recommend for family visits as hygiene and maintenance of the room was also satisfactory.

Good value but needs redecorating

The pub/hotel was very dated and in need of new carpets and furniture throughout apart from the cellar room where breakfast was served. This room and the breakfast itself were very good and redeemed the overall impression of the stay.

Like - cheap price , friendly woman who was on the bar, cheap drinks, bar had a pay music box where you can pick your own music to play.

Unique - nothing

Dislike - There is a couple of things that need to be improved and changed. There needs to be more staff around the bar to help. Also the rooms are not maintained at all. The first room that we had. The bathroom floor was soaked so we moved to a different room. However , still with problems. The shower was leaking there was more water coming from the bottom of it than the actual shower head. The headboards abit sturdy and the chair wasn’t in the best of condition. The toilet wasn’t flushed on last use.

Since we have checked out my partner has noticed signs that are bed bugs lingering around as he has bites which I believe has came from this hotel and that these bites are bed bugs.

The standard of hygiene is very poor. I would highly recommend to get all the rooms checked.

Bar didn’t have much beer on tap only carling & carling cider, cools and thatchers cider.

Looks nothing like the pictures. Very dirty, the bed was full of hairs & the sink was blocked with dirt. Hair all on the bathroom floor it was disgusting. Paid for breakfast but was told that they weren’t serving the following morning. The pub itself was very outdated & not clean. Only real positive is the pricing in terms of staying for 1 night & the location. The pictures are extremely misleading.

omg i work in Birmingham and have done for the last 10 years, but booked a hotel to have another night out around here, with the girl friend. we pulled up and she said, i am not getting out the car.must of been 10 to 15 people out side reception door, all smoking and drinking and swearing, as i turned around in the street, with the window open, was not a good look.any way i found one called the Moseley arms around the corner. and stayed there instead. meet up with my work mates, and told them.a few are blue noses (birmingaham city fans) and they said they drink in there on match day. but would never stay the night and told me loads of horror story's. inc no room locks, bed bugs, glad i listened to the girl friends instincts. not for us.

I stayed for one night in a twin room. The bed was clean and comfortable. Coffee and tea making facilities were present. However, the negative things I have to say are that there was no plug on the hand basin in the toilet. Plus dirt came up the plug hole when I ran the taps and bits were floating around the sink. It made me feel sick and I borked at the sight of it. Some of the lights in the room didn't work because there were no switches to turn them on. The room window didn't open very wide because it had been fixed into a tight position, possibly for safety reasons. And finally, the photos of Royal George Hotel, Birmingham, are nothing like the hotel itself. In your gallery the bar and restaurant area is pristine with silver lights and well decorated. In reality it is not. I suggest you have one of your photographers pay them a visit.

Just the job - fantastic value for money and I slept like a log :)
Idk what some of the neg reviews are on about, I know it can get a bit lively round there on match days, but honestly if you book a hotel right next to a football ground what do you expect 😂
Easy and safe parking (even with a reg that clearly relates to a local rival team! 🩵✌)

This hotel is next door to the Birmingham Fc football stadium and is in a rough and ready area. The hotel is part of a local pub for those that enjoy a drink. The hotel rooms are decent and the bed was huge. The staff that greeted us and who we spoke to on departure where very friendly. For a reasonable priced city hotel i would defiantly recommend and i would stay again.

In need of a BIG make over

Hotel is well situated for touring the city poor signage for parking which has no drop kerb so struggled to get in with our low car the hole inside is well over due a complete re fit the room we stayed in 22 was as clean as you could get it considering the paint peeling off the bathroom ceiling stains on the carpet and TV barely hanging on the wall the bed was clean and comfortable enough for the 2 nights we stayed brakfast was well cooked and enjoyable this could be a great hotel given some time and investment

Dirty hotel. Has someone walk in my room (room 11) while I was asleep. Before they gave me a room that lets in cold air through window crevices and I was told there was nothing that could be done as there were about 8 rooms like that. 8 rooms??? Dirty itchy duvet and pillow. Dirt marks and hair in shower. Toilet kept flushing back and continuously found poo in it though I didn’t poo. Dirty hotel and extremely dilapidated!! It’s just a shanty village pub with stretches to rest your head. It’s disgusting and smells awful. Carpets are lifting, hardwood is old and seeping with dirt , it’s light brown but it is black cause of dirt. Lift dangerous pressed -1 and ended up behind a closed door quite scary. Feels like a low budget substance hostel. Outside is very dirty. The parking lot has loads of junk stuff in it, can be viewed from second floor. Unappealing. Before the visit I called the hotel to ask for an earlier check in had the receptionist yell “NO NO NO” very rude over the phone. And the manager commented on one of my reviews and said their staff would never well they did. Service horrible suits the condition of the ‘hotel’. Very unsafe. Having someone open my bedroom door. Further more room 11 door didn’t closed from outside had to use a plastic bag to force it shut . The pivot is dismantled. Bad lighting in the room . Nasty hotel! Should be a pub and not a hotel nothing royal about it . Very ghetto

The place is extremely rundown and in a rough area of the city. I would not stay there for free.

There was garbage everywhere around the building and foxes were eating the garbage at 3am during the night

The Wi-Fi does not work at all in the rooms. It works (although very slow) in the bar.

The road is extremely busy and it seems like there are no windows present. I barely had any sleep

The breakfast was decent and all the staff try hard. Traditional English breakfast made fresh for you but the basement smells like stale mold.

The owners should be ashamed. So dirty!!

I could go into great detail but my main concern is just to let people know that there are bed bugs in this hotel and if you stay here you run quite a risk of ending up transferring them to your home which I wouldn't wish on anybody. We stayed here and saw them/got bitten but when we have tried to tell the hotel about it (as have many others looking at the reviews - going back years!) they just deny it and carry on letting people stay there. This is totally unacceptable. If you don't know much about bed bugs then it's not just a case of getting bitten through the night, they are \"hitchikers\" and they travel around via people's luggage/clothes/anything they can get into. Please avoid!

2024 Xmas stay

Good place to stay. Could do with a lick of paint here and there. Window in room broken did not shut properly and because its on a main road, could here road noise, but not a major problem. Remote control for the telly did not work even after changing the batteries and telly screen broken But these things are not game changers so no big worry.
Right near Birmingham CIty Football club so if going to the match it is ideally situated and bust after the game.

Lovely friendly staff. Great cooked breakfast.
About a 40 min walk into the city but on the bus route and taxi easily available.
