The Black Sheep is not open in the evenings for check-in and meals any more, and it was difficult to book online for a group larger than 4 in the Aztec restaurant.

The bathroom as looking a little shabby, and the blind in the bedroom window was broken.

It's convenient for us to stay and we've used this hotel twice a year for the past 4 years. It has some good offers on room rates, but standards are slipping.

The beds recently fitted are way too big for the room size - no need to do it! And uncomfortable.
It’s also now impossible to get your invoice by email, despite asking on check-in.
Limited options for eating with the‘Black Sheep’ not covering evenings.
Used to be good but can’t understand the recent strategy.

Really enjoyed my stay. The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout, and the amenities were well maintained. Everything felt smooth and stress-free. This was our second visit — the first time we stayed in the hotel and spa accommodations, and this time in the Lodge — both experiences were excellent. I would definitely recommend it to others.

To have your room towels changed you have to request itBY PHONE (even though the “do not disturb signs’ still hang on the doors, which have historically been used for the purpose of not requiring a turn over)… 1st world problem I know, however my room still never got changed even after making the request!

Room let down an amazing hotel!

When we arrived to check in we were told our room had been double booked. The girl at the desk was very helpful and apologetic (checkin at aztec hotel and spa across the road). She said she would \"upgrade us\" to one of their hotel rooms with no extra charge, and gave us free parking and a bogof for breakfast, which was very much appreciated! The service was fantastic. We were given room 126 in the aztec hotel and spa, as the lodge that we booked our room in was full. When we entered the room. It was VERY old and dated and had a very musty smell. The room was large with a desk, bathroom, tv and sofa.the furniture was old, dusty and dated. The bathroom was very old, had rust on the rings that held the shower curtain. Dirty marks on the bath & taps. Mildew on the bath. It was late when we arrived so we just got into bed. (which was comfortable and clean thankfully!) The breakfast in the morning was fantastic, staff were wonderful and attentive. When i looked on the website at pictures of the rooms, they were lovely ! The room we stayed in didnt seem to be pictured. The hotel and spa, food and staff were all so fantastic. But they were heavily let down by the poor quality of room 126!!.( i feel the double room i had originally paid for at the bristol lodge looked so much nicer and cleaner in the pictures i saw on their website). I would actually stay at the aztec hotel and spa again. But would definitely ask for one of the rooms pictured on the website!

Originally booked cause the pictures of the hotel show a bath but ended up being no bath there
Suggested hotel.com upgrade there pics cause this hotel does not have any rooms with baths but apart from that enjoyed my stay was clean and comfy and reasonably priced
Love the fact for an extra small fee u can use the neighbouring hotels spa’s facilities.
Highly recommended

This hotel is a smaller hotel building linked to the Aztec main hotel over the road. You check in at the Aztec, this took a while I was probably waiting about 10mins to check in, initially I was told I could not check in early so I had to go and wait in my car. On entry to the Lodge it seemed clean and tidy in the main areas, the room itself was decorated nicely with good tea and coffee, hair dryer, TV etc. the bed was comfortable and shower was definitely the best thing about the hotel, super powerful. The main let down for this hotel is how noisy everything is, I could hear every door close in the vicinity of my room especially the bedroom doors being big and heavy, I could hear a baby crying in a neighbouring room, I could hear the person shower upstairs with the water making lots of noise from my room. I stay in a lot of hotels with work and personal travel, and this was probably the least sound-proofed room I have ever stayed in. It's a real shame because the rest of the hotel was nice and for only around £40 for the night I stayed I hate to complain. But unfortunately due to this I would not stay again.

The Night potter wasn't helpful. Didn't give proper directions to get to the room. We arrived by 8 pm but the room wasn't ready which was okay as the lady receptionist was nice. She advised us the night potter would make up our room. We arrived later and check in with him. He just gave us the keys, didn't tell us where the room was. We proceed to wonder around trying to find our room. So we asked him on the way, he said take a left at the door and it is just there. And that he had told me earlier. I felt it was my mistake and apologised. When i asked my wife she said he did jot twll us where the room was in the first place. I let it go and proceed to the door and took a left as he told me and we reached a first floor and still couldn't find it. So we went back to the reception with our luggage to tell him that we couldn't find the room. He then said you got to go out of the main door , cross the road and go to the building to the left which isn't what he told us the first time too.my 7 year old son felt that the receptionist was a bit rude and wasn't interested in helping. He could have clearly told us that we had to exit the building and get into the road in the first place. This is not what you expect after travelling 7 hours. Nice property but would not recommend due to the service received. The Morning reception/manager was great very helpful as he had to cut 2 new keys as the 1st ones were made just for 1 night though we booked a 2 night stay.

Nice and warm (electronic radiators)
Food in the main Aztec hotel is good quality
Sofa bed converted to bed as requested

Cons:
Kettle deep with limescale so didnt use
Only a bath in ensuit
Very tired bathroom, needs sealant stripping out and redoing rather than keep being added to as they have done
Reception on main hotel not the lodge
Black sheep cafe attached has limited breakfast

Extremely disappointed

The hotel was clean but the experience was horrible. The booking was wrong and the l was told it was made by Expedia and not hotels com. When we got to the room they had given us a cot for a 13 year old to sleep in. It took ages to sort out the beds and we had to make up the sofa bed ourselves. Our food and drink allowance hadn't been added and the receptionist argued with me until l showed my confirmation receipt on my phone. In the morning the waiter told us we couldn't have breakfast as we hadn't paid, it was humiliating standing in the middle of a busy restaurant with an orange juice in my hand and having to go and get proof of payment. The evening receptionist obviously hadn't rectified the information. We found it very upsetting and embarrassing and would not consider staying again.

Could have been so good

Firstly the room rate was £150 per night with no breakfast, so expectations were based on that! I arrived at 1:30am after a 5hr drive and whilst i appreciate check in is from 3pm, i stay away 2 nights per week and i often arrive before 3pm, Firstly lodge/hotel has no reception and a sign says Check in across road at Hotel and Spa, i walked over only to be told to check in at the pub and its too early, i walk to the pub to be told its too early, but IF my room is ready, i can have early check in for £30!! £30 for EARLY CHECK IN! for a room that im already paying £150 a night for, itll be my room in 1.5hrs anyway so why the £30? All this does is start things off on a bad footing, i expect to pay for a late check out as you need to get rooms ready, but not check in! So thats why ive given it 2 stars, that and its not a £150 bed only kind of place

This property is set within an industrial estate across from the Aztec Hotel & Spa. You check in via the pub/restaurant next door called the Black Sheep. The supervisor was great & very accommodating to my daughter who is a wheelchair user. Room was excellent, quiet & clean. Great base for touring the area around, as long as you have transport. Would highly recommend & would definitely stay again if in the area.

Would definitely stay here again. Although close to Bristol, it was lovely and quiet. We wanted a twin room really but one was not available so booked a family room. Unfortunately the second bed hadnt been made up when we arrived but as soon as we brought it to the attention of staff, it was sorted out. Cafe /bar next door, ideal for a quiet drink and breakfast in the morning. Staff were really friendly and helpful. An ideal place for overnight stop off.

Room not made up for a family

Paid for a family room, and on arrival sofa bed wasn't made up, had to go to reception and ask for bedding. A staff member came fairly quickly, he asked if I wanted him to make bed or if I could do it myself, it was quite late by this point so I made it up but he only brought a single duvet and fitted sheet for a double bed. He had gone by this point and my kids were tired so had to share a double bed with just a single duvet. Also there was guests running in the corridor at 3am!! so not the best night

The Lodge is very nice at this price point...once you get in. Check-in for me seemed like an episode of Fawlty Towers. There's no formal check-in desk. You press a button on an intercom and a voice tells you what to do, but the intercom is balky so it's barely intelligible. Once I figured out that I had to go into the pub next door, it took a while to find the check-in space. The woman there didn't seem too familiar with the system, so when I asked for a higher-floor room, she had to summon a manager. My whole check-in took probably 45 minutes. And then the morning I was leaving, I walked into the pub to get a coffee and the manager said the system showed I'd already checked out, even though I didn't. All in all: Good place to stay, but they need a new reservation process.

Nice hotel.

Room was nice and clean. Shower room was nice and the shower was hot. Only thing that puzzled me was that we had to go to the hotel on the opposite side of the road to check in and then go back over the road to our room? Also, if youre looking to go out in Bristol city centre on a weekend, the taxi will cost you between £25 and £35 each way from there. Hotel overall though, I'd stay there agin.

One night at the Lodge

Really good accommodation. We were on top floor and the room was modern, spacious, clean and well equipped. Beds were comfortable, even the sofa bed and the bathroom had a good sized shower with electronic control. Outside parking was adequate and there were on site EV charging pods (4 I think). Check in was via the Black Sheep pub next door. Staff were friendly and helpful. We didn’t eat in the pub or at the sister Aztec hotel where you can use the leisure facilities. Very good value and conveniently located.

We had two family rooms , both had defects. Room 24 had musty damp smell and shower didn’t work properly. Room 38 had broken window blind , we were moved to room 37, which had uncomfortable sofa bed for two children to share. One slept on floor for part of night(10yrs old). Room was small for a family of 4. We were given a discount on breakfast to compensate for the broken shower room 24

Very comfortable stay

This hotel room was very nice with a very comfortable bed. It wasn't too spacious but ample for what we needed it for. The shower was really powerful with lots of really hot water, probably the best I've had in a hotel room. However, the sealant round the bottom of the walk in shower could do with a spray of bleach as there was some black and pink mould. The towels were fluffy and large. A nice touch was the little night light in the bathroom to save you putting the big light on in the middle of the night. Tea and coffee and even a cafetiere with some ground coffee too. Not many sachets of milk however, I got a jugful of fresh milk from reception instead.

We did have a problem with the venetian blind which fell off the brackets when we tried to pull it up as we wanted to open the window. My husband managed to get it back onto the brackets but the blind wouldn't pull down fully. A little bit of maintenance will sort that though.

All in all a really good stay, especially as they were redeemed free nights with Hotels.com. I would recommend and definitely would stay there again.

Wouldn't Stay Here Again

I wouldn't stay here again. Very understaffed and needs work.

Located in an industrial area, check in is across the street at the Aztec Spa property
Don't try calling the Aztec though because they NEVER answer the phones. I tried 10 times on multiple lines and finally was only able to get through to someone because I called the number for spa inquiries.

Checked in here and then drove across the street to the property.
We booked a handicapped room.
The room was very spacious, bed was comfy.
The shower was one of those walk in types that just drain into the floor. Great, as long as the floor is angled properly for the water to drain, which this one really wasn't. So about 2/3 of the bathroom floor flooded and was still wet the next day.
And the toilet didn't flush properly.
Tried calling the property (not an exaggeration) 20 times to get someone to fix it. Finally gave up and was too tired from driving to venture over there and wait to talk with someone. Ended up using the toilet elsewhere and used it the next morning and left unflushed (sorry housekeeping staff)
The back door to the hotel right behind us was damaged and didn't close properly.
Every time someone went through it there was this horrible screeching metal sound. Try sleeping next to that all night.

Given what we paid for this hotel, and what we received in service/quality of stay it was not worth it.
Like I said, this COULD be a fantastic place with just a little bit of effort on behalf of the owners.

It was average.

Instead of a sofa bed for comfort I would have been happier with a extra two single beds or double bed for our family room.
The shower door was broken and therefore the whole bathroom would get saturated when we showered.
Also said free parking but actually it’s £3 per night. That was disappointing. The WiFi was intermittent.

Not sure I would stay again for the price and the extra parking costs.

Just 20 minutes' walk from Bristol Temple Meads station, this creative locale proves central doesn't have to mean soulless - with its restaurants, bars, shops, markets, galleries, museums and outdoor activities. You could always just dangle your feet over the water and watch the world go by, too.
