This was just a one night stay at this resort, but I wish we had stayed longer. First off, the staff we encountered from the front desk, to the security officer, to the pool guy - everyone was very friendly and welcoming, even when we literally got the manager out of bed early to check out and obtain a taxi. (Again, my apologies and thank you so much for helping!). Our room was simple, but spotless, quiet and cozy. Everything worked. Nice pool and very tranquil setting. This property seems equally suited to a romantic getaway and a business conference. I hope to return some day. Highly recommend :)

This property was badly affected by typhoon Orlando. The facilities stated by Expedia listing were not all available including wifi and TV. In fact we had to move rooms twice once because the room had no water which somehow came as a surprise to staff. This for a room that was 'cleansed' between guest visit. One to avoid for a bit until they sort themselves out which is a pity because the food pool and leisure activities are excellent

Very nice hotel; a little remote though. It takes some time to get to Cebu city. There is plenty to do at the hotel; it has a nice restaurant and bar, the grounds are lush and beautiful. Front desk staff was outstanding, Housekeeping staff was great

I would stay at the Cebu Resort again, but would first decide what I wanted to do. If you want a place to relax that has all the amenities you need, it's a great place. If you want to go into Cebu City to shop or dine more than one time, it would be good to consider a different location.

Good points. Nice pool, goods staff and well maintained.
Bad points my room the bed was so old and a foam Mattress that is was very uncomfortable. Rooms are very dated
Right under flight path so I have planes wake me up at 7am
It is located a long way from anywhere and you can't just leave and walk about

fantastic as always

its always a pleasure staying at the alta , from the arrival when you are greeted with a complimentary drink and friendly staff to when you leave , it really is a fantastic place , not far from mactan airport , with swimming pools , lovely rooms and very nice food , if i had to find something to complain about it would be the price of the food , as having eaten in other hotels and restaurants i find that alta is a bit too pricey ! still there are other places to eat and it is the only fault i could possibly find ! to finish i would say just go there and enjoy !

Off-beat hotel complex

Bit of a distance from anywhere really but no loss for that, very pleasant atmosphere about the place and the staff are very good. If you're looking for glass and stainless steel go to chain hotel where you can't tell whether you're in New York or New Delhi, this place has a character all of its own it was very quiet as far as other guests there but the conference side was very busy apart from the occasional cheers from the conference rooms didn't really notice that though.

Not worth it!!

We came in a bit late but they did not have the confirmation number so they asked us to wait for more hours. They only reacted after we demanded to check in right away. The heater was not working and the bed was uncomfortable. No remote control for TV. It was just not worth it.

It was probably not the best day to visit the hotel. Completely understaffed, incompetent and dirty dishes all over the place. I had no choice than to stay one night since it's very remote located from everything. I cancelled my 3-night take my losses and booked somewhere else. I don't understand Expedia's recommendations on this hotel

Positive; The facilities of the hotel are great. I particularly loved the garden and the bay area. One of the two swimming pools is shallow and good for children. The staff are generally shy but a few of them became very friendly in the end. Bar and music were great for those who enjoyed them. Food is OK.
Negative; Spa (jacuzzi) was out of order. The staff never offered anything unless we requested. The touring manager was quite unreliable - he gave us wrong information and did not give us important information. Packed breakfast for early departure we had ordered previous day was not ready at the time of departure. The music and other hotel guests were very loud until late night and we had to make a complaint to stop them. Inconvenient location.

The staff is very nice, the greenery around the grounds is pretty. The room is quaint. Nice vocals from the singer in the evening.

The food was mediocre, there is no gym, really not much in the way of amenities. The pool is ok.

This is definitely a low budget place, but it's not bad, just not wonderful. You won't waste your money here.

Excellent Garden Resort Very Eco Friendly and Rela

We really enjoyed our 5 day stay here and it was an excellent choice despite some mixed reviews which I advise you always to ignore. Hey it is the Philippines and they are still learning the meaning of super efficiency, timing and excellent customer care but they are trying so hard and deserve great praise for the effort they put in. If you are looking for that then don't stay here but if you want a very relaxing, enjoyable and very caring hotel/resort then I thoroughly recommend Alta. It won't disappoint and is excellent value all around. So give it a try. They deserve to do very well.

1 night is not enough

I stayed one night. The pools are good. Food at restaurant is lovely. And a good price. Room was nice. Tea n coffee making available in room. Shower is hot. Bed a little uncomfortable and wifi slow but it's quiet n peaceful at this place. There are many activities to do. You can volunteer at an orphanage nearby which would be something nice. Taxi drivers charge an extra 100 peso to pick up. However it's really not that far from the road. It'd stay there again.

Went to meet a lovely lady who i met online, travelled out to places together and enjoyed every moment. Resort had a conference on one evening, and while chatting to 4 men outside was invited inside. Found myself being a judge along with them to a karaoke competition. Was a great night, most enjoyable.

The place is very peaceful and the stuff are very friendly. The breakfast was great since we thought it would only be serve by plate but they gave us buffet. The ambiance is relaxing and made us feel like we were out of the city life.

They are not updated about online booking. It took us sometime to confirm about our online reservation, but thankfully there were a lot of vacant rooms. The wifi connection is very poor, it couldnt reach our room. There is no beach, and after my stay, i realize that they are quite expensive for a resort far from the beach. The stuff management needs to improve: there are flaws that they need to consider. We stayed in room 8 (buyog) where the landline (phone) creates a weird creepy sound as you call the front desk, its like the one you could hear from horror movies, but dont worry, you cant hear any ghost crying or asking for help, maybe there is just a line problem.

Great layover in Cebu

We booked this hotel for its proximity to the airport as we had a layover in Cebu. The outdoor pool was great as it was deep enough for a swim rather than just a splash. There is also a second pool more suitable for kids. The neighbourhood had lots of small eateries around which was what we wanted - so all in all, it was great for a layover.

Nice resort -beware of karaoke singers

The gardens at the hotel are nice. Breakfast? Not bad, with nice veg. I thought I'd read somewhere it was near a beach which it's not. A nice enclosed resort - no doubt if it had been near a beach it would have been double the price. Also, my booked shuttle to fetch me from the airport in the early hours of NYD never showed up - frustrating, despite being confirmed. A yellow or maybe white cab from there would probably be cheaper than the hotel's 475 pesos but then you've got to wait for one. The peace of the resort was disturbed v late at night and early am by the nearby karaoke singers. I don't know if this was just cos it was New Year's Eve but suspect not.

Beautiful Tropical Resort

I loved my stay at Alta Resort, such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the tropical surroundings. The staff are so kind and generous, they made us feel at home here. I loved the flowers and trees every direction you look, and be sure to look up and see the fruits these trees bare. Everything was so close by, from shopping at the mall, to the sea over the bridge they have created to enjoy the native surroundings. The food they created here is the best I have had, with local flavors and traditional international favorites. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Alta, I miss you already, and looking forward to seeing you again on my next vacation. Thank you

ALTA, good but not as good as the photos.

Basically this place is nice, the staff are excellent, we had a cheap alright dinner there as well.

But the most noticeable thing about this place, as nice as it is, is that they had Amazing photographers take photos of the grounds. The photos don't truly reflect the surroundings of the rooms, or the fact that the pier deck overlooking the river goes over a shanty town with dirty water. Also didn't have any of those flowers in the toilet as per the photo (we were in delux room).

Only really one pool was useable (next to the bar) since the other had loads of things floating in it.

Don't get me wrong. the room was clean and nice, (although because it is surrounded by open patio, you have to keep the curtains closed a lot which makes it quite dark).

Bit far from things though:
ALTA to SM/Mall or Ayala, and ferry port about 40 minutes maybe a bit more
airport to ALTA 40 min maybe more.

Tip: NO MATTER what a taxi driver says, take the meter. it starts at 40php and will always be cheaper than set price. EVEN with traffic.

Ok but not great

The hotel and staff were actually very nice. The problem with this resort is that it is too far from anything but a local outdoor market. No beach, or outside restaurants, no bars within walking distance. Essentially it is nice place to visit if you just want to stay in one place.
I should also mention that when I was there, they had some kind of school retreat, so the place was packed with teenagers messing about. Evidently that happens from time to time

Garden Oasis away from the Mactan congestion

I have stayed at Alta many times over the years. I enjoy the garden surroundings, cool pools, spa, and restaurant. It is a lot more homey than other hotels. It has a pool table and climbing wall for kids, and a pool, spa, and nice restaurant for adults. My bed was very comfortable...a temperpedic style mattress with plenty of room. The bathroom had plenty of closet space, the television large and clear. It doesn't have a beach, but you can walk out to the water via a skywalk. I've been to beaches on Mactan, and they aren't really worth paying for. Mactan is usually a good basecamp for other things in the area...snorkeling the fish sanctuary, visiting whale sharks, visiting Bohol...but you are near the major airport. Other than the really nice and personal staff, and gardens, and nice homey room, I enjoy this area. All of Philippines suffers from dire poverty, and even Marco Polo is a stone's throw from extremely depressed areas. This area is not different except that it is as the more remote end of small Mactan island and it feels more provincial to me. The people are friendlier, and you don't see the naked street kids sleeping on the street that can be so hard to witness in the city. You can get a measured dose of the Philippines here...take jeepneys and pedicabs to Lantaw restaurant about 10 mins away, or take it easy in the nice restaurant on site.

Lovely resort, great pool - perfect for relaxing

Alta Cebu is not in the main tourist part if town and doesn't have a beach front, so you end up making good use of the pool. You can take advantage of the hotel shuttle and go to White Sands and pay in for the day, against consumables, but for the 3 days we were there we pooled it which was nice as the resort wasn't too busy. Beautiful clean pool and comfy beds!
The staff couldn't be more helpful, patient and kind especially the ladies on the desk and Marvin in the bar.
We were there for Chinese New Year and had a great buffet dinner and entertainment and the poor bar menu had lots of choice for dinner too. Food and drink both really reasonable considering you are stuck there! I think I would only say breakfast could have a bit more of a western offering, however the team are willing to make whatever you want if you ask.
The bedroom was a little dated and could do with modernising in terms of furniture and decor but had everything you could need and was lovely and clean. And cleaned everyday without asking - not always the way on this kind of budget in the Philippines!
Our air conditioner was a bit loud, like a motorbike starting, but we got over it as the rest of our experience was so good!

Garden Hotel off the beaten path

If you want a place with lovely grounds to chill a day or two this is fine. The mattresses are of the foam and not luxury types which is a bit of a negative for me. It lists a fitness center which is one reason I picked this place. It is nothing more then one stationary bike that does work okay and a few free weights in a covered but open air area. I choose to go for a run as the streets are not so busy in the area for a morning run.

Nice hotel if you need a real vacation

A great hotel if you want your vacation to be smooth. The staff members are very friendly and helpful, very anxious to know what your experience is like. The breakfast is great and the food, I went there during low season so sometimes it took a while before the food came out, but within reasonable time. The rooms are super clean and comfy, only thing is that sometimes the TV did not work but then they have movies you can borrow. Far away from beaches but there is a shuttle taking you to wherever you want to go every morning. Also, we had a problem with a cab driver who wanted to charge us too much, but the staff sorted that out in no time, really a relief. Whatever you have for problem, they will sort it out which is really nice. Very cozy, nice environment and an owner who really wants to know what your experience is like. I would definitely return.
However, some of the information from hotels was wrong, for example it stated that the shuttle from the airport would cost, they did not charge me for it and the morning shuttle is also free and was available at all times.

Expectations Exceeded By A Mile !

From the staff greeting us with token necklaces (Like Hawaii), to the hand written \"Thank you\" card at our departure, everything was marvelous.Their rooms are individually decorated with different themes and feel \"Homey.\" The grounds are kept immaculate. The food in the restaurant was delicious and prepared wonderfully.But the most refreshing, unexpected surprise was the staff. The staff was naturally relaxed and friendly. Everything they did, or offered to do was genuinely from the heart with no sense of \"I have to do this.\" I spoke with a few employees personally and asked about their employment. They ARE a family. Ones that are not, move on. They genuinely enjoy their work. THEY made our experience their great. One night they knew my wife and I had not yet eaten dinner. They called our room to see if we might like anything before they closed. Would I stay there again? Absolutely.

a good hideway from the noise and traffic... good to relax here... but a bit far from any decent restaurants.. ( not many on Mactan)... getting a taxi is a bit difficult either pay extra to call for one (additional Php100) or wait on the main road, sometimes can take 15 to 20 mins. Room is big and bed mattress a bit soft for my taste. Restautant food is below avarage (and often too salty)..staff are helpful are always trying to assisit.

acceptable free bfast...only get 2 slices of toasted bread but can ask for more. about a 25 min ride from airport by taxi for 500p. Lantaw resto is about a 10 min pedicab away...only cost 100p...much cheaper than taxi....food is fantastic and cheaper than hotel resto. Resort is enviro friendly and peaceful. Staff is very friendly. If you walk around you can find the dock with patio. Nice resort for the reasonable cost. Very much enjoyed my stay!

Alta is a very nice place to stay very concerned staff I was very ill the first day I checked in and the staff sent a nurse to attend to me. Vivian a manager has gone out of her way to arrange various types of services for myself my fiance she is awesome and very intelligent .after staying at the Alta I decided to cancel my arrangements at the other resorts here on mactan island because Alta have the most ambiance cleanliness food preparation and staff concern I am also a business person from the u.s so when I see something that's nice I know it

Very nice resort tucked in a secluded location.

This resort is a nice secluded complex with every thing you need to relax and enjoy a quiet vacation. The on site restaurant is excellent for Filipino dishes and if you want to try chicken right off the grill, just walk a few blocks out to the nearby main road and get a whole roasted bird right off the spit. Only had time to enjoy the 2 pools on site since I was always out and about. You do need to call a taxi if you want to go to downtown Cebu or I found it was just as easy to walk out to the main road and get on one of the many Jeepneys heading to other locations on Mactan Island(Lapu Lapu).

Perfect place to relax, with access to anything

Beautiful resort! Beautiful rooms, gardens, and exceptional staff. The photos that are shown are the rooms, not just a premiere or show room. All of the pictures are accurate. The staff here is always available, helpful, and friendly, but never overbearing or \"in your face\". I went here to unwind and was treated to a wonderful experience. If you can make your own itinerary and fun, this is the place to go! If you need to be led from one activity to another, or you expect a resort to show you how to live on vacation, maybe you should try Disneyland. I rarely write reviews, but this resort is a gem! Go if you can and enjoy. P.S. If you give the Chef a little time he will cook meals to your order. Not the menu, meals to your order.

This hotel sits on beautiful property and like the pictures will show it looks great. The village they created should have been so much fun. However this hotel has no quality management whatsoever. It took hours to get bad food or drink from the only resturant or bar on the two days we did stay there. The tv in the room was broken and we were told \"too bad.\" The surrounding village was so trashy that on the river bank you could not even see the river through the trash.
Worst of all when leaving the hotel two days early (along with two other guests trying to leave early) the management disappeared for two hours just to tell us no refunds whatsoever would be addressed. And then after a complaint of the conditions to the operations manager we were told that things like this are common in the Philippines and to deal with it. This is not the case with any of the other places we stayed in Cebu.

if you want glitz and glamor go to the casino resorts.
If you wish to be catered to by a staff and managers who make you part of their family then this is the place.
The staff will do everything within their power to make sure you are comfortable from morning to night.
I totally recommend this resort to anyone who wants off the beaten path but still wants to be taken care of like they are the most important person at the resort and to be greeted with a smile no matter the time of day.

Great Location

From the time we got there it was a slice of heaven. The staff was very fast with our check in and room assignment. Our room was very comfy plenty of light, loved the shower. Food was fine, staff was very friendly and helpful with all we asked of them. The natural setting of the resort was calm and peaceful. Alot of activities to do. We will be staying there again, we already miss the place. Thank you Larry for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

i personally love this place ! have stayed here a few times now and it is always great to go back . the hotel itself is approx 20 mins from airport as long as taxi driver knows where he is going ! surrounding area is ok , locals are friendly , the staff are great , very nice and helpful , food is good , rooms are nice , the gardens are beautiful , swimming pool(s) are great . hotel manager is a nice guy who will help out with any little probs that you may encounter , all in all i would recommend this hotel to anybody and everybody , and i am looking forward to my next stay there ! whammy n whabby

great couples getaway

I had a wonderful experience at this resort...a little secluded place off of the beaten path and not far from the beaches on mactan island. An inexpensive taxi ride to the nearby Bluereef beach at maribago and small malls on the island, it was also not too far from the airport. But it was the staff that truly made this place magical for me...so attentive and friendly, they really felt more like family !!!

Alta Cebu Resort - Not Quite what we Expected

We are an English/Filipino couple and this is our 9th trip to the Phils. We have family in Lapu-Lapu. Over the past 11 years we have stayed in most hotels on Mactan island and Cebu. This hotel sadly does not tick our boxes. On arrival, virtually no lights on and not even the hotel name sign lit up. We did get an arrival drink which was a nice touch. Don't get us wrong, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the hotel it just wasn't quite what we expected. We stayed in a standard room and this was pretty well equipped with bath robes, coffee, kettle and fridge etc. The tv reception is poor at best and the wifi did not work from our room. It was fine by the pool and the restaurant. The bedside light kept flickering and this was because of two breaks in the mains cable, both covered with insulation tape. The air con was fine the night before but blew cold but not chilled air the following morning. The photos and the descriptions are not representative of the real hotel. The photos make out extensive green lush gardens but in reality it's smallish with plenty of different buildings in a garden setting. It might appeal to some people but it's only because we had prepaid that we stayed all 4 nights. The staff are attentive and polite and you can't fault the human factor at all. This hotel is directly under the arrival flight path for Mactan International Airport and you have jets coming in for landing at around 1000 feet over your head. We won't return.

Peaceful Jungle Oasis

I have stayed twice here and both times were excellent. I often have to visit Cebu City and Alta is a nice peaceful retreat from the Cebu City congestion. Outside the gate, Cordova does have dire poverty pervasive throughout Phil. and Cebu, but Cordova always has that feel of rural poverty where people are friendly and not the horrific poverty you find with street kids in the worst parts of Cebu City. I have always felt safe walking outside the gates and riding Jeepneys and tricycles in this area. It is nice if you want to have a measured dose of the Phil. experience. Taxis are usually meter+100 because it is off the beaten path but rarely over 250 to get anywhere including Guitar factory and Ayala. There is a new mall nearby so I was able to wave down an occasional taxi.

The resort itself is very well executed. It reminds me of the swanky jungle resorts in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. The landscaping is natural, peaceful, and lush. The pool is cool but pleasant in the heat. The restaurant is romantic and quiet and the food is great and reasonably priced. Breakfast has many options(although one of my Phil. favorites - sardines is not one of them).

The SPA is the best I have encountered in the Phil. but I am an ind. traveler and avoid the conglomerate owned resorts. The spa is peaceful and spiritual, and massages(2) were GREAT.

There is no beach, but you can reach by taxi. Mactan does not have great beaches at most if not all resorts compared to other islands.

Great Value, Peace and Quiet, Friendly Staff

I highly recommend this beautiful place hidden away in Cordova on Mactan Island, Cebu. Great value and surprisingly pleasant staff. Beautiful gardens and enough activities to keep up as busy as we want to be for 4 days. Enjoyed the meals. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Friendly staff in a very ordinary resort

The place is tired and run down. Breakfast was cold and a poor selection. Pool was superb. Room was crass in terms of decor. TV was poor. No hot water for the sink. Shower was useless.Staff were friendly and very helpful. The area is remote and you require a taxi to get to shops, restaurants etc. Facility is used for conferences and you could hear the noise most of the day. This resort might suit people with young families that are prepared to stay on site for a few days. This would be at best a three star in Australia and was not value for money.

Good all round location

Very friendly staff made the stay so enjoyable, recommend the tours if you don't want to spend your time beside the pool.
Initially I had only booked 2 nights but booked a further nights as I liked the location so much and the staff were so helpful with all my arrangements had a great time there look forward to returning soon

when I booked the hotel I was led to believe that there was a free transfer form the airport to the hotel
but when I checked out I had to pay for the shuttle bus 500ps not to happy.
plus dinner had a 10% service charge and a 12%tax thing on it but never eat there because of this

from the moment I arrived , I knew this was a special place ! with the welcome garland being put around my neck and the complimentary chilled drink put into my hand I thought woooow ! everything about this place is awesome ! I loved every minute there and was very sad to leave , would go back tomo if possible and would recommend this resort to anybody thinking of staying in mactan !

Alta Cebu Resort

The surrounding geographic area has good, clear signage so one can find the hotel easily from the main road by cab or car. The drawback about the overall location is that it is nestled away from any major site of interest. It is a restful out of the way place for those who want to make arrangements with private cabs to and from the city sights, shopping and diving locations. All in all, it was just right. for us, the manager is a very caring and involved person, as well as the rest of the hotel staff. Our assigned room was a bit off in decor. It had awkward double exit doors, with light, skimpy cloth drapery with the bed centered in between the doors, and against a rather darkly painted mural background. The curtain quality was not measured to fit the windows and did not give proper shield of sun or night lights from the outside porch. The grounds had a well kept, tropical appearance, and the hotel lobby was a bit kitsch with a wedding dress setting not quite in harmony with the reception or welcoming first impression. The rest of the area surrounding th epool was just fine, and cozy with a very nice breakfast rooom and a tastey food slection. Would we return? Sure, now that we are familiar with how to manage travel outside the hotel compound.

Very nice resort and staff are super friendly and helpful. Nice getaway from busy Cebu, but yet accessible. relaxing and tropical feel and nice clean swimming pool. Good place for families or couples. Great food and especially buffet..also good sandwiches and fries. Owner always on top of everything and good service at resonable price.

The morning breakfast and dinner food was great. The dinners are very reasonable. The rooms are very clean. The grounds are very clean. The pool is clean. In the midst of a lot of local poverty, the hotel was a good deal.

The Alta is set in the country side away from the ocean. It has pleasant gardens and a pool. It is quiet except when the planes fly overhead and if there are noisy guests. The staff are very good and pleasant. The meals are good. It is quite isolated and there is only one other restaurant in the area that we found. To access a beach you take the shuttle at 9:00 a.m. and you need to pay to use a beach. You then need to pay a taxi to get back to the Alta.

A bit tired and dated, but exceptional staff

On arriving, I was initially a disappointed. The resort and buildings were a bit dated and tired, but it was all very clean. It was much smaller the the website suggests and whilst there was plenty of greenery, there were no real gardens to speak of.

Our first room was unacceptable. We had a basic room but at the price, we really expected better - lights and an old TV that didn't work & the bed and sheets were horrible. However, we were immediately moved to a very acceptable room.

During our 10 day stay, the place did grow on us. Although tired and dated, it was kept clean. The staff were very attentive and the food was good. The pool was fine and never too busy.

Breakfasts were good, but as with all buffets, but get there early. The bar closed too early around 10.30 pm leaving only a 24 hour snack shop for beers and soft drinks.

Their description 'wondrous, mystical gardens' is ambitious. Don't expect anything too special.

The resort hosts functions and seminars, mostly daytime, and music was too loud.
Getting about could be a problem for those not familiar with the area and local transport. The resort is located on Cordova and is a 20 minute ride to Lapu Lapu & 45 minutes to Cebu City. There's nothing of interest within walking distance.

Like so many places, it doesn't live up to the pictures etc on the website. But we came to enjoy the place and we would go back. We always felt safe and secure. It's no Shangri-La but it is affordable and the staff were exceptional.

Beautiful Resort

I stayed at this resort for just over two weeks, which I think was a bit too long to stay in one place. Nevertheless, I just want to say that the staff are fantastic and will go to great lengths to help you. I thought the architecture of the buildings was great as well, especially the Bahamas rooms, which is where I stayed. All around the resort is beautiful, with a great variety of foliage. The Altabay at the back of the resort provides a pretty nice view as well.

The one negative I had with this resort was the wifi connection. It is slow! I waited and waited for things to load, which caused quite a bit of frustration. Also, I looked forward to seeing the monkeys they had advertised as having, but I later learned that they had become ill, and were required to be moved to a sophisticated zoo.

All in all, I think Alta is a beautiful place. I went to Portofino Beach Resort to use their beach one day (since Alta doesn't have one) and it is nowhere near as beautiful as Alta Cebu. The staff is very friendly, and you can easily relax and enjoy the sun. I don't know if this was just the timing of my stay, but it never seemed to be busy at Alta; I was often the only one using the pool.

A low budget resort

The resort was not what I expected. I'm told our room was among their best, yet it was a 2.5 out of 10 at best. The food was limited, but very good. The one thing that upset me during our stay is without prior notice they closed the pool from 1:30pm - 7:00pm because they booked a poolside wedding ceremony with left all of the hotel guests nothing to occupy their time on a very hot day. NOT GOOD when you plan a poolside tropical vacation. I will not book a stay there again.

A real resort for real people

Fantastic, friendly staff and a resort that has tried to blend with the culture rather than set itself away from the local community with grandeur. If you are looking for 5 star with no soul then this is not for you. Larry the owner is hands on and will listen to comments without taking umberage.
I will warn, do not be fooled by the word Superior when booking a room, the word standard should be applied because if we had borrowed a cat from the poolside the chances of him being swung in there were nil! The room we stayed in had a damp smell, was tiny and a decor that was \"unique\" but was always spotless. Food was good but limited, we didnt try the tours as we found cheaper ones elsewhere. The pool was great and well maintained with classy and stylish furniture around the area.
You have no beach but there is a free shuttle and all the beaches on Cebu seemed to be privately owned and you pay to use them.
The gardens and landscaping are excellent and the whole feeling of the hotel is one of serenity and relaxation which is enchanced by the ever smiling staff who seem like a family.
I would recommend this hotel to normal people, who live in the real world, for the people who want to live in luxury, away from the locals and in a steralised world this is not for you, but what is the point of going to a country if you dont see it and absorb some of its culture?

A Beautiful place to relax.

My stay at Alta, was just what i needed. The staff were excellent, the food also. A large choice, very tasty. A good place to launch your day trips and travel. A must is the swim with the Whale sharks in Oslob, dont miss it! Overall, a magnificent stay with Alta.

Hidden Paradise

What a plesant surprise to find this beautiful friendly resort in Cebu. My wife and I had been disappointed in the past locations we had stayed at, but not this time. The staff is so friendly and accomodating. My flight arrived at the Cebu airport, after a long night in the Manila airport, and as promised there was a car waiting for me and upon arrival at the resort,after many hours of no sleep, the staff met me with a beverage and immediatly got a room ready, even though check in wasn't for serveral hours. Was able to have a delicious complimentary breakfast before going to our lovely, clean and comfortable room. The swimming pool and spa are a delight, all of the staff friendly and accomodating. I can not reccomend this resort enough if you want a quite and restful retreat.

Philippines style resort

This resort caters both to locals and holidaymakers which is a bonus in my book. Plenty to do there if you wish (climbing wall to ballroom dancing apparently); plenty of scope to relax if you are not. The mix of clientele is reflected in the restaurant menu but you need to be patient at meal time. Because of its location it is not really a business hotel but a good place to have an event.

The grounds are very well kept and the staff always pleasant. it has no pretentions of being a 5* resort but if you and your partner want a quiet place to stay with enough activity to suit then this is the place for you.

There are beach and mall transfers provided as well as local tours

Delightful and different oasis. Great value!

Alta is a place with a difference and character. It's a delightful oasis just right for relaxing. Laid out almost like a village with wooden houses in a verdant tropical forest surroundings -so refreshing after cement and gloss ghettos. The focal point is the pool area with all the important amenities and air-conditioned restaurant. There's plenty to do if you want it, Check out the rafting! It's odd that some reviewers complain there is no beach when Alta had never claimed one! However, they offer a free shuttle to the beach and shopping mall. Taxis are a good alternative and are cheap, ($7 to the airport#. Book at least an hour ahead.

The rooms are tastefully decorated, with comfortable big beds, TV and Internet, etc. Sometimes the internet is slow #low-end 3G), but that's not Alta's fault, since the telcos don't invest in modern infrastructure anywhere.

The service is excellent with a genuinesmile and desire to be attentive. What sets Alta apart is that it is family-owned and operated. Larry, the American owner makes the effort to meet every guest and is always anxious to know how he and his staff he can make your stay enjoyable.

In summary, Alta is ideal for couples seeking seclusion, families with young children and also business people. But if you want high energy days and nights, this is not for you. Great service and superb value for money! Extra points for eco-friendliness. I strongly recommend it, which is why I have stayed here about 6 or 7 times now.

Alta is too far from everything

This resort would be a great place for honeymooners. I'ts too far from everything. I was with sister, brother and niece. There's a restaurant on the property but we didn't try it for dinner. The menu looked good but the room has no ambiance. We tried breakfast the next day which was ok. We asked front desk person about other places to dine and she suggested restaurants to eat at and malls to check out, about 20-30 minutes away but did not mention the traffic and half paved/not paved roads that turn out to be over an hour ride. The pool is nice. Over all the place is a little paradise if you have no plans to leave the room.
