The hotel is located far from public transportation, about 20 minutes walk, you can order a taxi. The rooms are large but do not have a refrigerator or an electric kettle. Things like this are required in such a place because you are in a remote place. I recommend providing a scheduled transportation service via electric golf cars through Al Ghayah even if it is at a nominal cost. The hotel's location is great but the level of services is low, this is my opinion

Nice enough hotel but dated looking rooms let it down a little. Rooms are not in keeping with other Van Der Valk Hotels so lower your expectations and stay when pricing is lower and you should be ok.
We ordered three double rooms and all of them were furnished slightly differently even though they were identical and next to each other.
Biggest let down was one of the three rooms was clearly not cleaned since last people stayed. Bed was slept in, used towels on floor in bathroom and dirty toilet!

Situated in a beautiful area in Gladbeck, Germany this hotel should get a 10 star rating. A picturesque stroll along a walking path next to the hotel led us to a castle. The staff were so helpful with all our needs. The breakfast buffet is delicious and plentiful.

We booked a double but got two singles and only one bedside table and lamp with no overhead light, making it difficult for two people to read. The TV did not work which limited the options. Both main courses were very dried out. The waiter was rude when I asked for sugar for my coffee. The first time that we have opted not to stay for a second night pre-booked.

Excellent Hotel for Route A2 and Movie Park

Excellent opulent looking Hotel if travelling on the Route 2 through Germany and you need a stop over for the Movie Park. Staff very welcoming, professional, friendly and multi lingual. Booking in was very fast. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable. No tea or coffee making facility in the room and Buffet Breakfast was plentiful, (but barely warm) though that was not a show stopper due to the large choice. Overall, excellent stay and will book again. Note: If planning to drive around the area away from the hotel, it is a Green Zone area so you may need a German Environmental Badge for your car (get one before you travel using the app).

Stayed for 5 nights in the Van der Valk in Gladbeck,check in was ok friendly etc.Room was a bit dark and lighting wasn't really good enough for working ,reading in.In places the hotel really need a refresh as a few thing looked tired ie some carpets broken lift and non working vending machine.
The biggest let down was the food for dinner in the restaurant in the evening.
A very restrictive menu and over cooked food dried vegetables and chips with everything went someway to pulling down the standard of the hotel.
On the plus side the hotel is really easy to get to off the Autobahn and has a large car park lit with no issues.
If I have to stay again in Gladbeck,I think I will look for somewhere not so far off the beaten track and with a better standard of food.

We were driving from London to Denmark and stayed in Gladbeck on the way.
The staff was nice and super helpful.
The hotel offers a huge parking area which seems safe enough.
The hotel is very close to both the Autobahn and a trainline, so do not a super quiet location. The rooms are not air conditioned and if you need to open the window/balcony door, expect a fair amount of noise.
On the other hand as it is close to the motorway, you are back on it in 2 mins once you leave the hotel and Gladbeck offers both cheap fuel and supermarkets if you need to resupply before continuing your journey.

Booked an upgraded Deluxe room. The room is big but with many outdated \"designer\" touches that might be cool in 80s but are desperately outdated nowadays. I wish I had a smaller room - this big one was impossible to heat despite a battery turned on full setting and an additional electric forced air heater. It was -3 outside.
There are free drinks that come with an upgraded room ( juices, beers) but I have never seen a German hotel without a kettle. Until now. I didn't want to have a breakfast in the morning so I tried to get coffee. The hotel info book states something like: \"our spacious lobby is a nice place to hang around and enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade cake\". What it didn't say - BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE AND CAKE.
I asked at the reception where I can get coffee. They directed me to the restaurant. I went to the restaurant where the breakfast was served at the moment. I explained that I just want to buy two cups of coffee but no breakfast. I was looked at like I just arrived from the moon. Finally the waitress allowed me to get two cups of coffee from the automatic machine. There were no options for coffee WITHOUT milk. I am lactose intolerant but the headache from having no caffeine was prevailing and I got two cups. It was the most atrociously bitter-sour coffee I ever tried. No amount of milk could remedy it.

Solid functional hotel

Stayed for a week in October. The hotel was fine with respect to polite staff and efficient systems but it definitely is a traditional hotel that lacks any flair or attractive qualities about the decor / carpets / bedrooms etc. The high point is the restaurant of an evening which is more attractive than the rest of the hotel and served some nice meals, however, I found the food quality at breakfast was much lower.
One thing to note is that although the reception staff spoke reasonable English the majority of the staff in the restaurant and elsewhere just spoke German and the signage and menus were all just in German. Fortunately I speak enough German to get by but it could be a little awkward if you don't speak any German at all.
One thing that amused me - I bought a little Christmas bauble gift from the Van der Valk shop and having asked if they had a gift box for it (to which they said yes) the receptionist extracted a toilet roll from the draw and used some toilet paper to wrap the bauble up and place it in a cardboard box and then place in a nice Van der Valk bag!
Another instance of functional rather than attractive.

Basic business hotel. Beware the WiFi!

I have stayed at this hotel many times on business, and in general it is a nice, clean experience.
The facilities are basic, and the rooms are not luxurious but comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful at the front desk, but are reluctant to assist on any matters that may take effort on their part.
The biggest gripe I have with this hotel, is that you run the WiFi lottery every time you check in. Whilst the website states that free WiFi is available in all rooms, the existence of only one central router means that the further away your room is from reception, the less WiFi you have. As a businessman I require access to emails at all times, and I would say 50% of the times I have stayed here WiFi is not available in my room. If you complain about this, you are basically told to deal with it.
In general, if you have a short business stay I do recommend this, just don't expect 5 Stars or walkable civilisation as you are surrounded by forest.

The staff at the front desk is helpful. The guestroom is clean and spacy. The bathroom contains a shower and a bathtub. Free WIFI is offered in the room. Big Hotel in a rather noisy location - wifi included could be a bit misleading as this is only in reception area, not in the rooms.
The hotel is in between a busy motorway and a rail line that carries goods and can be quite noisy, however having stayed in many other hotels in the area it is better than most in the price range. Staff are friendly and the food is good in the restaurant. Good selection of English speaking TV channels.

Besonders aufmerksam und freundlich empfanden wir das Personal. Wir haben zweimal das Zimmer reklamieren müssen, weil es für uns nicht passte (das 1. lag unmittelbar neben der Bar und die Musik war extrem laut, die im Zimmer zu hören war, das 2. Zimmer war noch nicht renoviert, sehr alt und aufgrund eines aufgelassenen Fensters sehr ausgekühlt. Die beiden Reklamationen hat der Mitarbeiter so unglaublich nett bearbeitet , das war wirklich erstaunlich, da uns das eigentlich schon unangenehm war. Sehr souverän und freundlich und das 3. Zimmer war dann auch in Ordnung. Trotz Renovierung aber auch hier und da ein paar Mängel. Schade, dass die Renovierung scheinbar etwas günstig vorgenommen worden zu sein. Das Frühstück hat uns sehr gut gefallen, es fehlt eigentlich an nichts. Restaurant, Lobby und die allgemeinen Bereiche haben und optisch sehr gefallen, sehr besonders und schön gemacht.

The room was not as described as in the picture. Very old , not cleaned well . Blood stains on bedsheet and dust on table and in room. I could also hear everything in the room next door.

I expected comfort and luxury but this was far from that. Price was way too high for what I paid. I also asked for 3 separate beds but I got a bed bunk and 2 beds .

The positive was decent breakfast, diner was mediocre.

Het nieuwe gedeelte is mooi en netjes, het oude gedeelte is oud en stoffig. Er wordt momenteel gerenoveerd, maar dat wordt niet verteld van te voren. De overlast is minimaal, maar toch wat rommelig. Geen croissant bij het ontbijt? Spek was droog, blikfruit, geen verse jus d'orange, gewoon niet goed en vergelijkbaar met vd Valk NL. Jammer, als de renovatie af is zal het mooi zijn, maar dat zal nog lang duren denk ik.
