The hotel ignored my repeated messages as well as all messages and phone calls from Expedia. Even after I returned home, they still ignored both me and Expedia! DO NOT patronize this hotel. Even Expedia couldn’t get a response from them. They should be removed from Expedias properties!

Go back in time to 1970

Checking in, they tried to charge me full amount even though i had paid in advance online, took time for them to sort their computer system and find out shy. Then on check out, same again, system said i needed to pay. Luckily i had same member of staff who remembered and after again searching thru the system found out nothing to pay.
Overall, the rooms are very dated, straight out of 1970. Carpets threadbare in places and in overall bad condition, curtains needing replacement and walls in need of paint.
Bathroom again looked very dated. Its almost like going back in time to 1970’s with this hotel, very George & Mildred for those of a certain vintage.
Personally i only needed somewhere to rest and grab a morning shower, so as it had clean sheets and a soft mattress, i was ok, but id not stop there again should i visit Gelsenkirchen

Stayed one night during the Taylor Swift concerts, hotel was incredibly busy, staff was great with everyone and very helpful. We had a renovated room, which was nice! (Note - it says air conditioned, I’ve learned on this trip through Germany, that doesn’t mean much, lol. Not different from the other hotels we stayed in) at least there was a fan. Overall good experience! Close to the train stop for the Arena and central train station!

Friends and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel. One of the nights the fire alarm went off at 530am due to a small cooking fire in the hotel kitchen. We had to evacuate using the stairwell from the 12th floor and the staff was very rude telling us to go back up to our rooms via the stairwell. Also, let me not forget to mention that there was no phone to call reception in our room. The hotel description states they have air conditioning but that is a lie. There is no air conditioning in the rooms only the halls and reception are fresh and cool. The rooms were hot and stuffy, so uncomfortable. Overall experience was horrible. Hotel prices were astronomically high for what we got. Not worth it.

Air Conditioning did not work and rooms were 30 degrees according to the thermostats. Drains were clogged and there was a smell of mildew. Paid an insane sum for our rooms due to the Taylor Swift concert. The staff did their best so no complaints there.

We were fighting 60000 Taylor swift fans for rooms. The hotel is definitely dated and needs renovation. The restaurant and lobby were very nostalgic and seemed as if time had stopped in the 50s. A positive was breakfast, the food was good, plates were clean and had lots of options.Overall for the city and the surge in prices I can’t complain, but would not recommend this hotel unless you were in a pinch.

Looks like there have not been any updatesfor decades. Rooms are a good size, plenty of storage with balcony and walking distance to town. Furniture is dated, carpets dirty and baths in need of updating. If you have a car, you’ll pay 10Euro/day and good luck finding a parking spot. We were there 10 days and the only time our bedding was changed was the day I stripped the duvet and pillow cases. My husband did not strip his and you guessed it, his 8 day old bedding was left on. Dirty coffee cups were not exchanged until we called down for fresh ones. We had to ask for additional packs of coffee almost daily. Internet is so slow, we were unable to message pictures. This hotel used to be a first choice but it has gone downhill. The bar staff is very friendly and accommodating. Drinks are good.
The Maritim in Köln is still beautiful and a 4 star hotel. The Maritim in Gelsenkirchen is a 2+.

Veltins Arena.

Travelled to Gelsenkirchen for 2 concerts at the Veltins arena , the hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful when needed.
Approximately 5-10 min walk into town where you will find restaurants and shops. Can get up to the Veltins arena in about 25 minutes from the hotel.
If I ever travel back to Gelsenkirchen I would definitely consider staying here again.

After reading a few reviews about the \"less than 4 star conditions\" we were very happily surprised to find a lovely hotel. Everything about the hotel was definitely 4 star- more so than our first night of the holiday in a UK 4 star!! The Maritim lobby, rooms, service, staff -everything was great. Even the open-air car park was much nicer than on-line pictures suggested; it was secluded, los of treees and very secure. I injured a foot while walking and the staff were so helpful in making my stay as comfortable as possible. The food was scrumptious too! All-in-all it was really a great, great stay and we would definitely recommend the Maritim Gelsenkirchen. And we didn't need to use our car for the Essen Spiel because transport links were excellent. A good, good stay. Top marks!

The Google Map doesn't show the route from the train station to the hotel correctly. But the hotel is in the front of the tram station (U-ban metro??) so we didn't need to take a taxi. All guests have to know this to save the taxi fee.

Do Not stay in a basic room in this hotel

Our room was very small. Television very old (not a slim type one). Lights by bed lethal (old brass ones had to be careful didn't cut yourself). Balcony looked liked no-one had been out to it for years and green mould on walls and the doors hadn't been open for decades? We stayed for 7 nights. It would have been nice if they had asked us if we wanted to upgrade. We asked for a room with walk-in shower told not available until the next day. Never advised it was available. Price of breakfast 18 Euros so ate elsewhere. Reason we stayed there and didn't move elsewhere was because of the SWIMMING POOL this was great hardly anyone else used it and we did most days.

Big commercial hotel - fit for purpose

In town for the football. This hotel was fine, I imagine it's full of commercial travellers (or whatever sales reps are called now) selling widgets and circuit breakers to local industrialists during the week. A nice enough spot - and if fact the only place in town to get a pint after midnight.

Lovely garden location. Large, comfortable bed. Plenty of space in the room for two people and luggage without tripping over each other. Room 312 or 313 overlooked the front of hotel. Kept the balcony door open (while on alert for stray pigeons/doves) to cool down the room. Couldn't reduce the heat in the bathroom, though, despite turning heater knob to the \"off\" position. Plenty of room & bath amenities, but no free WiFi. [Didn't purchase wireless, so no idea as to its efficacy.] Light carpet and upholstered chairs showed some stains of unknown origin. Shortly after our mid-afternoon check-in, a female staff member knocked briefly on the door and opened it without waiting for a reply. Her delivery of champagne was (unfortunately) to the wrong room, but I was taken a bit by surprise and thankful that I'd just finished dressing after showering. Same type of room entry occurred at 8:30 AM by housekeeping - quick knock, and an even quicker opening of the door. We were scheduled to check out that morning, so a housekeeping visit was unwarranted. Again, happy we were dressed and merely packing... Tram #107 from the Hbf stops right in front of the hotel for a less-than-2€ ride. [Tram is found *below* the Hbf, not at all where the buses are located.] Bakery just down the street yielded an inexpensive breakfast. If we find ourselves in the area again, we'll stay there for the hotel's convenience and value, but we'll slide a chair in front of the door to ensure privacy.

Somewhat from the center of town with a direct tram. This well suited my work location. Bar could have stayed open later, as i finished at midnight. Comfortable and Quiet. I think WI-FI should be free which it was not at this hotel.

Well priced hotel

Stayed here for 1 night on a business trip. Hotel was much cheaper than the hotel I usually stay at and just around the corner, very convenient for the main train station. The room was a good size and was surprisingly modern. The bathroom was fine, not as modern as the main room but still very acceptable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

It's ok if you are not super-demanding. Itt's best feature is its location. The room is basic and a bit old fashioned (except the toilet/bathroom which is modern and very good). Very good staff and free intern et were further pluses.A funny aspect is the way you reach your room. This is via an elevator that connects it to the ...street. You enter the elevator you press, say. 3rd floor button and the elevator stops at first floor first where the reception is and the receptionist takes a peek inside (through the little lift window) to check that you are a resident.The lift then continues to your floor.Another minus is that the street is a bit noisy and it might disrupt your sleep.

Wonderful Staff!

I can't write positively enough about the staff at the Maritim. I lost my passport somewhere between immigrations and the hotel and asked the staff for the Airport Security phone number. They gave me phone numbers, they gave me websites, and then they all dialled the relevant numbers a million times. Within 36 hours, airport security was calling the Maritim to inform me of the whereabouts of my passport. They were hugely helpful and kind.
On top of that, the hotel is located on the gorgeous park grounds of the Stadgarten. Lovely place all around.

The hotel is very old and is in major need of a renovation.

The hotel is extremely loud. There is a building under construction right next to the hotel so all you hear are jackhammers and drilling all day. In addition, there was drilling all morning in the hotel because of a broken elevator.

The business center is comprised of a broken computer so son't expect to be able to print anything or scan it.

The front desk staff are not helpful.

You need to buy a T-mobile account to get wireless internet.

Wir bekamen, wie gewünscht ein Zimmer in der oberen Etage.
Leider funktionierte Vieles, trotz neu renoviertem Zimmer, nicht…Safe war defekt, laute Lüftung sprang einfach an, Föhn kaputt. Wir haben das Zimmer 2x gewechselt und trotzdem wieder ein Zimmer mit Mängeln gekommen. Durch die Balkontür zog der Wind. Klimaanlage und Heizung im ganzen Haus abgestellt, trotz 10 Grad Außentemperatur, daher sehr kalt auch, beim Frühstück. Auf Rücksprache mit der Rezeption hieß es, das geht
doch noch alles.😏
Das Hotel hat 15 Stockwerke, von denen 6 Etagen mitten in der Renovierung sind. Im Fahrstuhl und beim Frühstück trifft man immer auf die Handwerker.
Fazit: Hotel besser erst nach kompletter Renovierung buchen und jetzt im Herbst/Winter auf keinen Fall, da viel zu kalt.

Idéal pour les familles, parking disponible mais payant, chambre propre.
Malheureusement, il n’y a pas de ménage régulièrement dans les chambres. Après réclamation on m’a dit qu’il fallait faire la demande. Donc, il ne vide pas les poubelles tous les jours, change pas les essuies… tout cela se fait sur demande du client. Salle de bain fuite d’eau du mur tombant sur le WC, qui venait de l’étage supérieur. C’était décevant aucun geste commercial ou autres. Je ne pense pas y retourner.

Ein altes Hochhaus, bei dem man das Alter schon von außen sieht. Obere Stockwerke werden renoviert. Wir waren jedoch relativ weit unten. Möbel abgegriffen, zusammen gewürfelt und verwohnt. Tapete und Teppich fleckig. Es fehlte ein Verdunkelungsvorhang. Für 1 Übernachtung okay, aber für den bezahlten Preis nicht okay.

Wir waren dort wegen einer Veranstaltung in der Nähe. Das Hotel hat 15 Etagen und wir waren ganz oben. Mega Aussicht auf Gelsenkirchen. Ein kleiner Park war auch direkt am Hotel. Das Frühstücksbuffet hatte ich mit gebucht. Alles frisch und wurde wenn leer schnellstens aufgefüllt. Ich kann das Hotel nur weiterempfehlen.

Ich habe das Zimmer gebucht im Rahmen eines Konzertbuches. Leider muss ich sagen, dass es einige Dinge zu bemängeln gab.

Aufgrund von Renovierungsarbeiten wurden wir in ein Zimmer umgebucht, dass aus 2 Betten bestand sowie einer Schlafcouch. Gebucht waren aber 3 Einzelbetten in einem Zimmer. Entsprechend sei darauf hingewiesen, dass die Fotos bei Expedia nicht den aktuellen Zustand der Zimmer darstellt. Die Aufbettung wird in Zukunft für eine 3. Person über eine Schlafcouch realisiert.

Daraus resultierend hat es fast den gesamten Aufenthalt gedauert um eine Lösung für das Problem zu finden. Am ende wurde uns eine Gutschrift für das Hotelrestaurant gewährt. Leider war das Zimmer auch nur für 2 Personen vorbereitet worden. Bettwäsche, Schlafcouch und Hygieneartikel wurden für die 3. Person erst nach einem Gespräch mit der Rezeption hergerichtet.

Dahingehend möchte ich auch gerne, das Personal loben, dass mit Geduld meine Anfrage entgegenahm. Die Zimmer waren sauber und ordentlich. Wiesen aber noch ein paar Schwächen auf und so hoffe ich, das in Zukunft es besser läuft.

Das Frühstücksbuffet empfand ich als reichhaltig und angemessen.

Zusammenfassend muss man sagen, dass der Aufenthalt uns gefallen hat trotz der kleineren Probleme. Ich hoffe aber, dass Expedia zeitnah die Seite des Hotels überarbeitet und Sie entsprechend den wahren Zustand der Zimmer wiederspiegelt sowie dass erwähnt wird, dass die Aufbettung nun über Schlafcouches realisiert wird.

Fühle mich verarscht - Hotel niemals 4 Sterne

Sehr nettes Personal am Empfang (aus alter Maritim Zeit), die Möbel der Zimmer sind total überaltert, zudem der Teppich abgelaufen, ich hatte 2 Zimmer mit Badewanne gebucht, die war tatsächlich vorhanden, aber in beiden Zimmern waren keine Stopfer vorhanden, sodass ein baden nicht möglich. Die Vermutung kommt auf, dass dieses in allen Zimmern so ist. Ich fühlte da ein bisschen verarscht. Leider das Hotel niemals ein 4-Sterne Niveau und sollte darauf dringend einmal überprüft werden

L’hôtel réalise des travaux donc pas calme du tout
Le petit déjeuner avec la vue sur le parc est appréciable
Le chauffage même coupé, il fait très chaud dans les chambres.

Das check in und die Bezahlung über mein iphone hatte mehrere Probleme.
In der Erfassung blieb die Eingabe bei Schritt 3 von 4 hängen.
Beim check out war die Bezahlung mit Status nicht erfolgt obwohl nachgewiesenermaßen die Buchung über PayPal erfolgte.

Das Plaza in Gelsenkirchen.

Das ehemalige in die Jahre gekommene Maritim heißt nun Plaza. Umbauarbeiten machen deutlich dass hier etwas besser werden wird. Die Zimmer waren zweckmäßig und werden ebenfalls demnächst renoviert. Entschädigt hat uns allerdings ein sensationell gutes Frühstück und die sehr aufmerksamen fleißigen Mitarbeiter und Helfer. Werden garantiert wiederkommen nach Umbau.

Einmal und nie wieder!

Im Hotel finden Arbeiten statt, Samstag um 08:30 wird man durch den Baulärm aus dem Bett geworfen. Rezeption weist alle Beschwerden ab. Wird von uns definitiv nicht mehr gebucht!

Allt bra, prisvärt Hotell, men ligger inte i bästa läge. Det finns en spårvagnshållplats nära men bara en resa/halvtimma till Essen, på en överfull spårvagn.

Das Hotel hat seine Blütezeit lange hinter sich, das sieht man dann entsprechend an vielen Stellen. Ein Besuch ist wie eine Zeitreise in die 70er/80er Jahre. Das Personal war sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich.

Der Checkin war problemlos. Das Personal war immer sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Fragen und Anliegen wurden alle erledigt. Zimmer und Bad waren sauber. Das Frühstück war sehr lecker und wir haben am Buffet nichts vermisst.

Für 1-2 Nächte ok, gutes Frühstück

Es ar sehr wam, keine Klimaanlage. Kühlschrrank war asgeschaltet, alles sehr veraltet. ! Flasche Wasser an der Rezwption satte 7 Euro.... für meine 2 Ü okay aber für länger auf keinen Fall.
Frühstück war gut.
