Room was clean and tidy. Even though there was construction around there was not a noise issue when I was there. Breakfast was typical Continental Style with cold cuts yogurt cereal but there was no hot options such as eggs or sausages. Nothing special but adequate. Overall, I would definitely stay here again

Great hotel, reasonable value considering the euros was on, good location only 10 mins walk from the station. The bar, lobby areas amd rooms are stylish and clean and the building is cool. However the breakfast is overpriced at nearly 17 euros - there is a limited buffet selection with no hot food and only coffee from a machine, its not worth the money.

I stayed here for the Euros, as I had tickets for a match in Gelsenkirchen. The hotel staff spoke great English and were very helpful. The room was clean and the noise from the street was minimum. The town of Essen has a few restaurants and bars. The hotel is around a 15 minute walk to the Hauptbahnhof. I would recommend Motel One to other travellers.

The checkin was easy. We were confused about the parking situation. We had to go inside and find out where to park. It would have been nice to know ahead of time. The staff was very helpful and did everything they could to make our stay better. The Christmas markets were across the street from the hotel which made it nice for visiting day or night. Dining choices were abundant within easy walking of the hotel.

Been coming here for 10 years since it's location is perfect for our needs. I liked the simplicity and decoration of the lobby and dining room better before it's renovation. the decor is too busy now.
This time, we had a renovated room. I missed the closet that was there before, it has even less storage space now. just 2 tiny shelves that can't even fit a pair of shoes.

I use this hotel regularly it’s based beautifully in the centre of Essen surrounded by plenty of restaurants and shopping. The staff are always friendly and happy to help. It’s a designer hotel which is fabulous for the money.

Great staff! Very friendly and helpful. The simple room had a comfortable double bed. I didn't see a kettle, mugs, or fridge. Cable tv with channels in multiple languages. The bathroom was a little on the small size, but had everything one needs. Good shower. Soap and body wash provided, but they aren't great quality. I didn't have the breakfast in the morning, but it seemed a good price and quality.
Overall - very positive. Perfect if you just need a place to lay your head. If you're looking for a luxury suite, keep looking.

I've staying in this hotel a handful of times now and I really cannot fault the consistently high levels of service. This hotel itself is in a good central location and the rooms are modern and comfortable.

Stayed here for 2 nights to watch the Schalke v Chelsea football match. The location of the hotel is very good and there are lots of shops nearby and at this time of the year a big German market just outside the hotel.

Breakfast was automatically added to the bill, and much like the room, it seemed like a small selection though in fairness perfectly adequate.
Overall it was a good stay for a short duration, but I'd be tempted to see if a different hotel offered better value for a future visit. (Room cost approx 75 euros per night)

The hotel is modern and clean, with strong free Wi-Fi. It is centrally located in a pedestrianized area, near many nice restaurants and shops; close to the train station, underground, and parking.
I only stayed one night. The front desk reception was efficient. The room was clean and comfortable; the bathroom was a little small, having only a shower stall, but good water pressure.
I checked out early, so can't say anything about the breakfast/restaurant.
Overall, I was very happy with my short stay and will stay at Motel One again in the future.

Great central location
This hotel is directly adjacent to Essen's Alexanderplatz, a square in the city's pedestrianised CBD, surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The weekend we spent at the hotel, the square had been converted into a big beach party with sand, sun loungers, beach volleyball and a stage for live music. It was a hot weekend (the temperature was somewhere in the 30s Celsius) and the beach party theme was perfect. The hotel is an old insurance building and is a heritage building. As a result, the corridors and rooms boast high ceilings and the rooms have large windows that open fully. The double glazing ensures the rooms are quiet and the air conditioning worked well at keeping our room cool. The rooms are small and sparsely furnished bur are clean and comfortable. If one isn't used to German beds, the two separate mattresses and duvets might come as a surprise but they are pretty common all across the country. As mentioned above, the days we spent in Essen were hot and we would have liked a fridge in the room to chill drinks and maybe keep some food in the room. This proved to be only a minor inconvenience, though. All in all the hotel with its friendly staff and great location were a win and I would gladly recommend it.

I've done a review for Motel One in Berlin Hbf so in terms of quality of decor etc.. it is as good as that one. Modern contempary design, comfy bed and flatscreen tv. The Essen Motel One is about a 5 minute walk from the main station and which is mainly pedestrianised route.

The hotel feels very modern and fresh with good value for money. The hotel is located by a large square in central Essen, near pubs, theatres, shopping, sights and the U-bahn. I stayed there for a convention at Messe Essen and I could get straight from the nearest U-bahn station directly to the convention centre. The train station (Essen Hauptbahnhof) was one stop away by U-bahn but it was more convenient to just walk to/from there. The breakfast was without remarks, but not outstanding. The staff was very friendly. I have very few remarks and none of them is serious: the bedside light switch was difficult to find (I had to ask the staff), the desk was not near any electrical socket (but it was small and light, so I just lifted it to the other side of the room) and I had to re-authenticate the Wifi every day. There was also no phone or alarm clock in the room, but any traveller should have their own.

Mein zweiter Besuch in diesem Hotel, Immer wieder gut MotelOne Standard was mir immer gut zusagt. Ich komme immer wieder gern. Abends ein wenig lauter aufgrund des CSD auf dem Kennedyplatz. Das kann schon einmal vorkommne, denke ich, dass auf dem Platz direkt vor dem Haus Veranstaltungen sind. Fenster halten aber gut und viel Lärm ab. Parken direkt gegenüber in öffentlicher TG für 12€ den ganzen Tag (mein ich)
