Well presented hotel throughout. A 15 minute walk from Essen Central Station or 7 to 8 minute walk from Philharmonie tube/tram stop. Almost next door to Museum Folkwang. Located on a busy road but little or no traffic noise inside the hotel. Very large room with comfortable bed and very powerful shower. Breakfast options were plentiful and the breakfast room was never too busy. Friendly staff. All in all a great hotel and would definitely stay again if I was in this area.

Close to Museum Folkswang

The rooms in The Mercure Hotel are large and comfortable with a good bathroom, everything is very clean.
If you stay at the Mercure Hotel, you Can easily walk to the town centre and the Main station, if you walk along the Huyssen Aller (runs parallel to Bismarckstraße). If you don’t want to walk very far for a metal, just cross the Folkswang Bridge (pedestrian) and turn right. There you Will find small local restaurants.
Ofcourse you are very near to the Folkswang Museum, and that is a must!! Entrance is free of charge, you only pay for the special exhibition.
Go to the UNESCO World Heritage, Zollverein, which is a former coal mine and factory. Just jump a tram at the main station.

Eigentlich war alles OK, jedoch hat eines der beiden Fenster nicht ganz geschlossen, so dass etwas Lärm in der Nacht herein dringen konnte. Beim Frühstück störte es sehr, dass dort andere Gäste telefonierten! Hier hat die Hotelleitung versagt, da diese die Gäste, welche in Ruhe frühstücken möchten, nicht vor den rücksichtslosen Telefonierern schützt. Telefonieren während des Frühstücks sollte dringend unterbunden werden!!!

Not the best hotel in Essen! No gym...

Unfriendly front desk staff, the room was smaller than booked and had a smell, the complaint was not appreciated so the customer is not right at that hotel...

Breakfast was nice and the restaurant staff were nice.

Dont stay there if you need a gyn because it is not a real gym - a wooden building in the hotel back garden, and the 2 machines there dont work. There was no communication about ther out of service machines at check-in, 4 star hotel?

I have never left a review for a hotel but i felt obliged to do so this time.

A very nice hotel with good staff, however there is no restaurant and the swimming pool and fitness facilities were not available when visited due to COVID restrictions.
There are plenty of eating places just one street away from the hotel so the lack of restaurant should not be a problem to most.

Very nice and comfortable hotel with a good location close to shopping, museum and downtown commercial district. Decor was very modern with lots of Windows with natural light. Rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet even though the hotel is located on a major street and my room was on the second floor facing that street. Would definitely recommend.

Great hotel

This is a well presented and professionally run hotel with big, comfy rooms. It kind of lacks a soul, but the head barman was a lot of fun. It is also in a slightly unfortunate location, with an unpleasant walk across big roads to get anywhere. Breakfast is - as always in Essen - ridiculously overpriced: walk one road parallel over the pedestrian bridge to find lots of cafes with much cheaper food. Not a great hotel for evening gaming if you are here for the Spiel.

Perfect hotel for Essen Spiel

We booked this hotel on a whim as we booked late and didn't have many options, however our stay was so good this is now the hotel we are booking for Essen Spiel 2016 and will probably book every year. The rooms are clean and modern, the staff are extremely friendly and would go out of their way for us regularly, there was ample room for gaming each evening, a lovely bar area, the breakfast was absolutely amazing (hot and cold food, all great quality and an amazing variety) and the price was unbelievable for the value we received.

Combine that with the fact it is about a 5 minute walk from the underground to get straight to the Messe, and the fact there are ample places to eat within a 5 minute walk, and we couldn't really fault it.

Ideal location to visit parent in residential care. Used hotel many times over last 18 months. Very disappointed on this occasion. Small room, safe did not work, no bathrobe but worst of all my key had only been programmed for one day rather than the 2 days of. As a result I was unable to enter the hotel and my room at 11pm at night. Lost my sense of humour!

Hotel staff Cleanliness and Pianist

Nice Hotel not the best location I had to get taxis to and from or walk fifteen minutes to the town or train station.
Staff helpful I think one member of staff forgot to order a taxi that I asked for and I was nearly late for a concert. I specifically went to Germany for the concert.
This was disappointing and there was no apology.
The breakfast room was lovely, breakfast was an average continental breakfast but there was waitress service for tea/coffee.
Great touch having a professional Pianist playing a beautiful red Piano.
Very impressive.
Overall I would recommend this hotel.
Swimming pool and spa available on certain times.
No views as such it is in a built up area.
Lovely church to the back of the hotel.
Taxis easy available from the hotel on booking.
Cleaners do clean the rooms well it looks very thoroughly.

Mercure was quite satisfactory, very clean, good price, conveniently located to the meeting we were in town to attend. Only negative was the pool was only open from 7-11a, which broke my daughter's heart as we missed the window. If you choose the hotel for the pool reason, my advice would be to call the hotel directly to find out what time the pool is open. Otherwise, would definitely recommend the hotel.

The room is spacious with free WIFI (although not a fast one). However, I hate the wooden frame at the end edge of the bed as I got hurt quite a few times by this. It is strange that 2 single blankets were provided instead of one queen size one although it was a queen size bed. The room was not provided with any coffee powder / tea bag but water boilder could be provided upon request.

Very nice boutique-style hotel.
The carpet in my room had some unsightly stains.
Apparently the maids do not know what \"do not disturb\" means. They came in and cleaned my room once when I had the sign up. The following day, without even knocking, a maid attempted to enter my room while I was there, with the sign up. Unacceptable.
The hotel has good internet (for a charge), and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel bar is very nice.
Breakfast is not included, but is a decent deal.

The hotel was great! I had previously had a bad experience with a Mercure hotel so was reluctant to stay in it again... I didn't regret it. The room was large and clean, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was great also! Staff was very friendly. Would stay here again.

Excellent hotel, however I wasted valuable time hunting for swimming pool and sauna early in morning, this could be improved with better signs. When I tried to use sauna it was irritatingly luke warm, hotel staff could perhaps switch it on earlier in preparation for opening.

Wonderful hotel

Lovely hotel right next door to the Folkwang art museum. Only downside is the restaurant belongs to a residential home for the elderly and last sitting is at 19.15. Food is ok if you like school dinner type of food. The hotel does however serve very nice food at the bar till 22.30 although some things may run out before then. Pizza was enormous! The pool is also owned by the home rather than the hotel and is only available for a few hours a day. Very friendly staff, wonderful breakfast- best I've ever had. Bar staff very friendly and obliging especially one lovely man who stayed open till late for us. I wish I had his name so I could commend him to the manager.

The cleaning staff were a bit grumpy when we weren't out of the room early in the mornings so they could clean. They actually started hoovering my friends room while she was still in it! We had couple of other minor issues with the domestic staff however this was quickly rectified once pointed out.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with air con in every room, kettles and bathrobes can be provided if requested - they don't come as standard. Would rather have a shower screen than a damp curtain though and fan wasn't very effective so it got very steamy in there! Despite this I highly recommend this hotel and would definately stay again, the local high street and Gruga Park are within a short walk and the city centre is only 10 mins or so away.

Hotel Mercure Essen Germany

We were only booked in for one night but wished we could have stayed longer. The room was a delight, attractive, quiet and comfortable. The included breakfast offered many choices. The staff were friendly and helpful.We walked to the city centre in less than 15 minutes. Parking in the basement was expensive but we parked in the side streets for no cost, after we had unloaded the luggage. We look forward to a longer stay there.

Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Checkin war reibungslos. Aber: Obwohl es mit Schwimmbad und Sauna beworben wird, gibt es offenbar länger schon kein Schwimmbad und keine Sauna mehr. Der Fitnessraum ist ein kleines vollgestopftes, unklimatisiertes Gartenhäuschen. Die Klimaanlage funktionierte schlecht. Die Vorderseite des Hotels liegt an einer extrem lauten Raser-Durchgangsstraße. Für die Qualität viel zu teuer.
