We were staying here to attend Cheltenham Races and have to say that this is probably one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Everything just first class. We will be back as this place blew us away. Highly, highly recommended.

We love to go to Stanbrook Abbey for a meal. However, we would not return for Christmas Day lunch as it was not good value for money nor would we stop again in an accessible room as it was not suitable for someone in a wheelchair. The staff are very friendly and the amenities are very clean. The food is wonderful and the quality is excellent. We did however have a problem at breakfast when The order placed was not received correctly. However, this was put right by the staff. We will definitely return for a meal but would not recommend the accessible rooms to anyone, which is a shame as it’s the only thing that lets the hotel down.

Dropped star as bar we needed to use with dog for breakfast was cold (both temperature and decor), and room service breakfast missed things both mornings we had that hand had stone cold toast both times (tip from other hotels = make sure some colour to the toast, cover in napkin, get it to room quickly.

Could be so much more…

Stanbrook Abbey is a beautiful building, steeped in history, however the bedrooms are tired, not as clean as they should be and lack certain touches, so it does not feel like a high end establishment. I have found this in all ‘hand-picked’ hotels I have stayed in - lovely public areas but very lacking in bedrooms and they need attention to make them feel as special as the buildings they occupy.

We had a wonderful visit only marred by problems of cleanliness in our room.
The reception staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. They were friendly, helpful and when they said something would be done, it was.
The food was excellent and service prompt but unobtrusive. Will definitely return.

A unique blend of modern and historic architecture. The hotel preserves the history beautifully. Guests can walk around and immerse themselves into life at Stanbrook Abbey during the 1800’s.

Unbearably hot room

Welcome, cleanliness and food were all superb. Service in the bar can only be described as odd, with passive-aggressive reactions to questions from ourselves and other guests. A young team who were more interested in each other than their Guests.
The biggest issue though was the temperature of the room which was like being in a sauna. The hotel had installed a wall fan, but this didn't make much difference and was very noisy. We had our dog with us, so assumed they had no other dog-friendly rooms available.

Excellent hotel let down by the food.

Stayed here to visit RHS Malvern and decided this would be a nice treat.
The property is amazing and all the staff that we met were excellent.
We booked dinner in the Refectory restaurant for the two nights as it was an AA rosette recommendation.
However the dining experience was not what we expected.
Although the food presentation, quantity and quantity were fine our meals on both nights were far from hot and some of the vegetables were almost cold. Not wishing to wait for replacements we ate them and mentioned this to the waitress who promised to pass the feedback to the chef.
Expecting breakfast to be prepared fresh in a hotel of this quality we were disappointed to find a rather tired looking buffet which looked and tasted as if it had been sat since the start of service. The toast and croissants however were very good.
Sadly not the treat that we had hoped for.

Wonderful experience staying a Standbrook Abbey. Great to see around the historic features of the hotel. The room upgrade was massive with 4 poster bed and roll-top bath as well as a 2 person shower.

Had afternoon tea as well as an evening meal and really enjoyed both. Will definitely return if in the area.

Stunning Location, Room lets it down for the price

The Abbey is stunning, the staff couldn’t have been nicer. The room called the Refectory was lovely. The Bar really lets the place down, it looks like an early 90’s conference area, completely out of keeping with the rest of the hotel. The room we had was disappointing, it was a Superior with Feature. It said it had living space, but it was a separate room with a bed in it and nothing else. The main room had way to much furniture in it, which left only the space round the bed. It was silly things that let it down, the dressing table was full of the tea and coffee. The chest of drawers had a nice mirror on it but it was too low to stand at and too high and no place for a chair to sit it. Then there was a table with small fridge on it taking up more space. You could hardly get the chair out at the dressing table as it had the bag stand behind it, but it you pushed that back you couldn’t get round the bed. The tv on the wall was squinty and fragile so we didn’t want to start to move it. The bed was really comfortable. It had a lovely large bathroom, but the shower should have been bigger. Overall for the £380 a night we paid it didn’t live up to that price.

Lovely hotel, service could be better

The only thing that stopped us from giving 5 stars was the service in the restaurant for dinner. We had to ask on more than one occasion for our bread and wine, we had to wait 40 mins for our coffee. The waiters and waitresses were very nice but were overwhelmed by the number of diners.
When we checked out the service charge had already been removed from our bill.

The hotel is stunning. The staff are wonderful and the whole hotel is a little bit of luxury. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and it is also freshly prepared. We loved how quiet it was- there was a NYE event the evening we stayed, but you couldn’t hear a thing from our room which was exactly what we wanted. We can’t wait to stay again and would love to visit again in the summer and next NYE!

Bell Tower with views.

Avery nice location and a very nice old building with lots to see. The old Abbey has many features, the main hall for example with its architecture, a bell tower you can climb with panoramic views from the top.

The bedroom was smaller than expected while the bathroom was bigger than needed, possibly due to load-bearing walls and the way it could be divided. Still, more space in the bedroom would have been nice.

A Wonderful Hotel!

We loved the hotel, its location, its unique character and its super-friendly staff and management. Our room was spacious, clean, conveniently set out and very comfortable. The underfloor heating ensured a perfect temperature at all times. The bathroom was spacious and had everything we needed. The shower enclosure was a perfect size and the shower was easy to adjust and control. The breakfast menu offered a good range of choices. The full English breakfast was exceedingly generous and beautifully cooked. The dining room was very spacious, comfortable with a beautiful ambience.

We were however, a little disappointed with the dinner menu. I very much enjoyed the steak noisettes which were tender and succulent, but my wife found the lamb challenging and well below the standard we were expecting. Many of the items on the dinner menu were a little unusual; not in itself a problem, but some more tempting items for main course other than steaks would have been welcome. I tried the stone bass and was not impressed - no comparison with good sea bass in my opinion. The sweet menu was good and my wife enjoyed trying the items. Beverages alcoholic and non-alcoholic were well up to standard. We enjoyed a very nice Shiraz - ( \"Journeys End\" ) - from Stellenbosch with our dinner.

No review would be complete without mentioning the Hotel's history as an Abbey with resident nuns not too many years ago! The Abbey's buildings are there for all residents to see. So why not take a look!

booked table in restaurant ahead of visit - was informed not available upon arrival. had to eat in george’s bar which is decorated like a cheesy butlins bar from the 1980’s (no offence to butlins). menu choices limited. staff all great but were overwhelmed.

room was way too hot, no aircon but instead a noisy wall fan. hot water was hotter than volcanic lava - caution sign was added above the tap, but why not actually reduce the temp so it can be used without filling the sink?

A dressing gown was provided and had the last guests dirty tissue in the pocket- which was a lovely surprise when i put my hand in there :-/ …and after i had stopped gagging i had to re-scold my hand under the hot tap again.

grounds and old part of the hotel are beautiful. shame about george’s bar which is so out of keeping with the building.

all staff were trying hard and really helpful.

Stunning location in converted abbey, beautiful hotel building, especially restaurant and bar, set in nice grounds. Quiet countryside spot a few miles from Worcester. My room was fairly standard, mostly matched online description although no coffee-maker (kettle only). Decent shower room but getting housekeeping didn’t replace mini toiletries. Breakfast mostly good although disorganised when partial buffet set-up. Dinner/bar food disappointing except desserts.

An experience not to be missed!

Stanbrook Abbey is a unique experience which was well worth the money. Our room was very tastefully decorated with a large shower in the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety of options. Really appreciated the home made bread, jam and yoghurt. Gluten free selection was very good. Service excellent.

We enjoyed the snooker room and games room and discovered a really interesting library. A very interesting and beautiful place to wander around.

We had a meal in the bar which was lovely. Only slight criticism is that the tables in the bar area are quite small and don't really lend themselves to the space needed for a meal.

Wonderful Gluten Free Provision

A beautiful hotel, fantastic cocktails, lovely room, even better bathroom but what really stood out was the service. They made a courtesy phone call a few days before during which they asked if there were any dietary requirements. I am coeliac so therefore gluten free. Upon check in I found that the complementary biscuits in my room were gluten free. For dinner the gluten free options and adjustments were explained and my meal was absolutely delicious. The biggest surprise was breakfast where I was able to select homemade gluten free muesli which was the best I have ever tasted, gluten free toast was provided and I even took a gluten free scone away with me for lunch! The best bit however was availing myself of the first Eggs Benedict that I have been able to eat since my diagnosis, and it was absolutely amazing. The service from staff was impeccable throughout; a truly special hotel with a unique history that I look forward to exploring next time I visit. This will most definitely be a regular haunt.

Exceptional, beautiful hotel in a former Abbey in a charming rural location, so full of character and history. Look for the carved mice by Robert moussey Thomson. The staff were excellent, I really must praise them for their friendliness and being so helpful in every way. Even with a very large wedding at the weekend they coped admirably. Rooms were beautiful and a high standard of cleanliness throughout. We will definitely be back.

Ate in the restaurant on Saturday night & found it very impressive (hotel restaurants can be a little iffy with a captive audience) but food was fast & fresh + great service. The room was a smaller comfort room but bathroom was high spec and with the warmer weather the air con was much better then a larger room. Fast check out at the end, nice bar by reception. Certainly recommend & beautiful well maintained location.

The property was beautiful and extensive. We were handed a map when we checked in to be able to find our way around! The original features from the properties former life as an abbey were lovely and included the opportunity to climb to the top of the bell tower. Can't imagine staying anywhere similar. A very serene stay. Its long corridors reminded me of Hogwarts! Only criticism would be as a vegetarian I found the menus very limited.

Stayed for family birthday lunch

Stayed for lunch with 60 people ,food and service was first class booked in sat/sun room great size and spotless slept like a baby again dreakfast had plenty of choice and at a nice unhurried pace

Beautiful but not serviced to it's potential

I know it was hot but the heat in the room was unbearable and the fans did next to nothing. could not sleep for 2 nights so asked to be moved the 3rd. They had no issue moving me. Next room was very good and cooler. The service of the front desk was great but the service in the restaurants sadly were not. Very slow and had to break up a couple of conversations to try and get noticed when trying to order deserts. Main meal one night took over 40mins to arrive.

Very different hotel

Excellent staff. I was located in a room the other side of the abbey which was very different and like something out of a gothic film, room was great. Breakfast was excellent, only negative was that room had a name and no floor and number so was a bit difficult to find. I am being picky, it was an excellent stay

Lovely hotel and excellent customer service. Food was also of a high standard. Only problem was no air-con in my room only a fan.
