The property was nice and in a central location. It was a couple blocks from the beach. The private beach area was relaxing. The coffee cart had good coffee and the hot tub was huge. I wished the pool side bar was open but I guess it waa too early un the season. The beds were comfortable, we had the 2 queen jr suite and there was plenty of room for 4 adults. It would have been nice to have a few plates, bowls and forks. There is none of that so be prepared. Overall it was great.

Overall the property was fine, but the rooms were dated and not worth the price. We booked a Garden Room suite, which in theory was nice (two queen beds in a room separate from the couch/tv area) but it over looked a public parking lot. Garden room doesn’t equate to public parking lot to us. When we raised concerns about being uncomfortable with looking at people clearly living out of their cars, and expressed a desire to move to a room without a literal parking lot view, we were given a lesser quality room in the 400 “tower” at the back of the property. This room was not as nice given it was on the bottom floor, did not have a separate living area, and had a view of the dumpsters. But at this point it wasn’t worth negotiating further as we just needed a place to sleep.

Recognizing the hotel has no control over what goes on at the public beach, it’s just false advertising to pretend the “300” rooms are anything but a parking lot view. The front desk staff seemed surprised we didn’t want to watch people trading plastic bottles and cans while we were on vacation and seemed dismissive of our concerns that this wasn’t the experience we expected or felt we paid for. Wouldn’t stay here again based on the lack of customer service to provide an appropriately commensurate level room or offer any discount to account for the difference.

On the plus side, the restaurant was decent, those staff were lovely, and the “beach” and pool were well maintained.

Very outdated hotel right off the ocean, very sad. AC was under another balcony so the water drops from upstairs was tapping ours keeping us up our whole stay. Food was expensive but wasn’t bad. I would spend a little more and stay somewhere else. Kinda looked like a retirement home.

The rooms were clean, but definitely in need of remodel.

CONS
The escutcheon plate for the shower arm wasn’t attached to the wall.
The bathroom vent doesn’t vent very well.
The toilet paper dispenser is behind you, when seated on the toilet.
The bathroom light is an unusual edge-lit, LED style, and it was 50/50 on whether they would flicker.
The bathroom faucet was a cheap laminate style. The “stainless steel” veneer was potmarked with holes from the hard water.
The wallpaper and carpet could use a refresh.
The sliding patio door was a bear to operate, requiring a strong pull to slam it shut.
The patio door lock didn’t have any tension in it. After “locking” the door, you could simply pull it open again and the latch would give way.
The staff were generally indifferent. I encountered maybe a dozen on my stay, and only two greeted me (one was the desk clerk at check-in)

PROS
The grounds are lovely! I enjoyed the landscaping throughout the resort.
The rescued seal habitat brings me great peace to see them enjoying their lives, sunbathing on the rocks.
The duck pond is extensive, featuring several winding streams that loop to it, as well as 3 decks for viewing.
The shuffleboard pavilion was awesome! I wish I had time to play a round.
My 1st grader loved the playground, especially with its rock climbing elements.
It was too cold during my stay to get into the water, but the private beach and pool looked inviting and well-maintained.

Go for the resort, not the rooms!

The room was clean and very comfortable. There was no face towels or wash clothes in the room when I arrived but that was taken care of with one phone call. I also found left over food under the cabinet next to the toaster. Other than that everything was fine with the room. Parking gets hectic at night but the view definitely makes up for it. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would choose this hotel again in the future.

Nice location with reasonably walkable area. My only concern was walking back to room at night... lighting very poor so easy to get disoriented. Room was great with lovely balcony overlooking beach/bay. Was worried it might be noisy but not a problem. I will likely stay here again.

Friendly service! Great waitstaff and restaurants. Pool is beautiful. Lots of families with kids so it is loud. Rooms could've been cleaner and more updated, stayed in 238 and 239. Dirty bathroom floors and peeling wallpaper. Room 238 was particularly musty and a bit damp feeling. Would definitely request a bayfront view unit next time.

This was our second time staying here this time we chose a junior suite for more room. We were up on the 4th floor in the tower . The view was great,but the noise From people checking in,every car going by was so loud, and the light from the large window coming in was very bright.

We would definitely stay back on the property away from check in again.
Both times we’ve stayed the rooms are very clean,the property is beautiful, the staff is wonderfu, and the restaurants have very good food and service.

Over all good place to stay. Conveniently location to Mission beach. Hotel was built on 60s. It showed. Lightning in room wasn’t the best could be brighter. Safe didn't work at all. Room fronted a public park. There was a person living in a RV. Water took a long time to get heated

Christopher at the front desk is awesome. He gave us a lot of suggestions for different restaurants and was just cool to talk to. The rooms are a nice size and clean. The toilets are really small (and round not oval so guys, sorry) The hotel is old but the location cannot be beat if you want to walk to Mission Beach or bike to Pacific Beach. Overall we would stay again. Just wish they would update the rooms a bit and seriously, put in better toilets. Rest is great!

I’m from Chicago, so being able to swim in a heated pool and relax in the hot tub was absolutely next level for me. Such a great escape from the cold! The property itself is beautiful and super relaxing.

Our room had an incredible view overlooking the water and the bridge — waking up to that scenery every morning was unreal. Truly a picture-perfect stay.

Huge shoutout to Steven at check-in/concierge — he was outstanding. Super friendly, helpful, and made us feel genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. He went above and beyond and really set the tone for the whole trip.

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Would 100% stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing coastal getaway!

I wish the website was more upfront about which amenities were available or not in January. For example, the Belle cruise boat was not running and the grab and go breakfast trailer was only open 2 mornings of my stay. Also, what’s the point of separate resort fees? Just include them in the room fee.

Rooms are old but mostly clean. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Too many people in the hot tub with screaming, splashing kids so not very relaxing. Pool is great. Lawn maintenance and waste management show up before 8am, even on weekends, so no chance of sleeping in.

The pictures Expedia uses are not accurate. We booked a bay view and ended up with trees that blocked out any view. The room only had slat blinds so it never fully got dark at night due the extreme lighting in the parking areas and decks. The resort in itself is fairly nice but it is budget for the area. The dockside restaurant was pretty good (pricey). If you book on Expedia you aren’t guaranteed anything from this hotel and they will not change your room/accommodation under any circumstances. If I went back I would book through the hotel 100%

Amenities: 4/5. Pool, hot tub, restaurant in very good condition and staff were friendly and efficient. Tennis courts were good but the pickleball nets with wheels causes some damage. As an ardent tennis fan this bothers me. Tennis equipment at the resort were subpar but that is to be expected.

Location: 5/5. Located on the water with plenty of activities and direct beach access.

Food: 4/5. Dockside food is good and restaurant staff are friendly.

Rooms: 1/5. We had the bay view double queen rooms. The views were beautiful, beds were comfy. However, the rooms had a dank musty smell that we could not overcome during our entire 3-day stay. The carpets are filthy and need to be replaced. The bathrooms were small and in acceptable condition but could be better. The patio access from our room was great.
