Nice room, great location.

In transit for 3 days. I rented a big room with a nice balcony for a good price. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly. Location is very good, right near riverside. The hotel restaurant had good food at a good price so I mostly ate there.
I recommend this guest house for an affordable option with a great location and will likely return.

It was terrible, booked 3 rms for 2 days and 1 rm for 1 day. No lift 6 floors.
First night room opened twice and items stolen, buy hotel staff, no help from management, two guests left . Next morning the older guests were scared and also left.
We were offered no refund for the 3 rms not used for the second night.

We had booked 3 rooms for 2 nights and 1 room for 1 night.
On our first night there a room was broken into and stuff stolen, we had no help from the owners, 2 guests were elderly and all ended up scared, the owner had a tazer bat when we asked him about the robbery.
It was a definate inside job, in my opinion.
2 guests left immediately, and the rest the next morning. The owner refused to pay back our second night monies, for the 3 rooms we didnt use and no compensation for the stolen items.

Very well situated. Clean and good matrasses. Nice bathroom. Lovely staff.
The only little downside is that the room has no natural light but not that annoying for a short stay.

Not very good.

Staff not friendly, felt a bit uncomfortable communicating with them. Guesthouse completely locked up after 10pm. Difficult to get in and out late at night.

We loved our stay at the Velkommen. We were actually booked at another location and decided to move over here. Lovely family runs this hotel. The owner gave us some fantastic recommendations for taking the ferry ($0.25 round trip per person) just across the Mekong for a adventurous walk. And the most delicious Indian Restaurant recommendation as well. We sat out front enjoying our coffee and watching street life. Many markets close by to buy water and essentials. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

I live just outside Phnom Penh and have stayed here on numerous occasions when I need to be somewhere more central. Apart from its convenient location near the Riverside I really appreciate the consistent and reliable service offered. Rooms are clean and are equipped with all the amenities required. Management and staff are friendly and helpful creating a safe and relaxed atmosphere. Overall it is excellent value for money and is why I keep coming back.

For Phnom Penh this hotel is good.

The hotel location is just around the corner from the river. The room was basic and adequate. Wi-Fi signal was poor and spotty, but may have been just my room. The staff are excellent and helpful. They serve a basic breakfast, pizza (surprisingly tasty), drinks. The front doors close at 10pm but there's someone in the lobby to let you in. Close to restaurants and night life. Phnom Penh is a busy city so street is usually busy and noisey. There's a street market a block away. If that's your thing it's great. Or if like moi, just walk the other way.

Poor description

There were over 70 steps up to the room, (and no lift) which was advertised as being 16 sq m. It was only 12 sq. m, in spite of the owner / insisting that my measurements were not correct and stating that 'no lift' was on thein the description (it wasn't). The 'courtyard view' In the description turned out to be the wall of the next building. The small room did not have anywhere to hang clothes other than a short row of wire hooks on the wall. It is unfortunate that the description was incorrect and partly contributed to a negative opinion. The staff were fine. I did not use the restaurant / bar facilities as I was unhappy about the stairs and small room, which were disappointing.

Great location, great value.

I have stayed at this guesthouse on multiple occasions with my wife and young son and the experience is consistently good. Large comfortable rooms, some with balcony and the usual amenities one would expect. Friendly and efficient service is appreciated as well.

Convenient and pleasant stay at Velkommen Guesthou

Velkommen Guesthouse is very close to the river and the Royal Palace, to restaurants that suited our budget and which provided meals we enjoyed, and to a travel agency which provided good service. Our initial impression when we arrived late evening was slightly negative as there were piles of rubbish in the street but we realized in the morning that it was the result having the night market nearby. W had a much more positive impression in the morning.

Good Value with Great Location

Enjoyable stay. Good value for a great location. Bit quieter street then some of the more busy areas of Phnom Penh. Convienently located for the palace and museum and promenade along the river. Could walk to the hotel from where the bus from Battambang dropped us off. Front desk staff was interesting to talk to and had his own tuk tuk to take you further afield. Would stay here again.

Walking distance to most attraction.
Not suitable for older people if you get the upper floor since there's no lift. No water hose in the toilet as well.

Filthy Guesthouse. Checked into the Velkommen Guesthouse. Standing at reception you can see down thru the kitchen. The walls are grimy with black stains on the walls.
The manager showed me to my room.The first thing to hit me was the bad smell. The bed was dirty and looked like someone just crawled out of it. The painted walls have never being washed down.
The bathroom had four air fresheners stuck in the drain hole. But I could still smell the sewage.
When I complained to the manager, he said \"this is a Guesthouse not a Hotel\" ( They also told the Orbitz Rep the same thing)
After I booked this place thru Orbitz. They told me my money was nonrefundable. So be aware. Don't pay in advance.
They also told Orbitz they offered me two other rooms to look at. (A Total Lie)

Only place for me in Phmom Penh!

I stayed at the owner's sister hotel in Siem Reap for 4 days and stayed at this Velkommen hotel months before aND after staying at a few other Phnom Penh hotels I would even think of staying at another hotel ever. It's super clean, right near the riverwalk, quiet at night and managed extremely well. Owner even reached out to warn they are filling up and he got us rooms quickly reserved. Great value for a hotel but a few people can share a room to keep it at hostel prices but it's a nice quiet, friendly vibe that makes this place so special. Very safe as well!

Not worth it

Stay here if you badly need a place to stay overnight but come here just for sleeping and leave as soon as you can. Good thing I decided to do all my activities before checking in at night. The place was dark when I arrived and greeted by a man who basically sleeping on what seems to be a bar during the day. Check in took like 2 minutes. Didn't need any ID. Got to the room and it was small with windows covered by curtains. Didn't want to look outside because I kinda know it's definitely not a city view. The room and toilet looked clean but not sure when it was last cleaned. Basically I just stayed for a total of 6 hours and left the next day to catch my bus out of town. Yeah the only good thing about this place is that it is close to the Riverside which is where most bus stops.

Nice people, got a room with a window the window was so close to the next building there was 10% natural light, not Evan worth booking a room with window. Also the aircon was directly above the bed. Just made us freeze had to get extra blankets to stop chill. Or turn it of and cook! Shower was ok . 6 flights of stairs not so good. Overall depressing place to stay

Inexpensive guesthouse close to Riverview.

A reasonable priced guesthouse close to River. Centrally located in the area and only about 5 minutes from the airport (10-minutes during rush hours) and for a pleasant walk in the evening. Close to numerous bars and food establishments. Rooms are spacious, with good working A/C and hot water shower. In-room safe an added benefit. Good breakfast available, but a bit expensive. Tuk-tuks everywhere, all drivers amicable to haggling on pricing. I had a pleasant stay twice.

We stayed in the triple room which was great for a family (2 adults 5 children). The beds were comfortable. The from was clean. Facilities were nice. Location is near the river. There are a lot of guesthouses in the vicinity. This is one of the better ones.
My wife accidentally left here phone in the room. The owner delivered it to the airport for a small fee.

Generally it was quite good. Hotel location is just a corner away from Riverside, all shops/restaurant/bus station is just nearby in walking distance. We took up a room with 3 big bed and it was spacious and clean. Owner also gave us some gentle reminder on surroundings and gave some advise on security. Overall, thumbs up!

Great place!

Great place to stay right in the heart of Phnom Penh. Room was very clean with maid service every day. The owner Edwin was very helpful with things to do and how to get around. I had a motorbike which he let me keep safe in the other guesthouse across the road which was a nice touch! All in all you can't be anymore central with markets just down the road but also very quiet as I had a higher room.. Views of the river as well! Would defintely stay here again!

Fantastic Guesthouse

The owner is amazing and very helpful. Most of the staff speak english really well. The location was great - an easy walk to markets, the river, and some of the temples. We would definitely stay here again. The only thing missing is 24 hour reception.

A mixed experience.

Friendly staff, helpful, physically the hotel is disappointing, small rooms, low ceilings do not make a great experience. I stayed in another hotel in Phnom Penh for the same price and the experience was far better.

More or less a place for young backpackers

You should know that this hotel has no elevator......
Second night we are lucky we could change to the second floor. The riverview is not what we expected. From your balcony you can see at the end of the street a little bit river. Although the room was big and clean the price is too high. Also the food and drinks are more expensive then other places.
We did not get the expierence as \" service and friendliness\" like we read in reviews.
A beer 1.25 Us, most other places 0.50 -0.60 Us etc. etc.
We didn't feel very welcome as elder guests. For us NO place to come back or to recommend for elder guests.

Very good and affordable place to stay.

We spent five nights at Velkommen. Our experience was excellent. Note that my ratings are based on my experience with similarly priced and equipped accommodations. The owner-operator was a very helpful and pleasant fellow. We had one room issue that he resolved promptly to more than our satisfaction. The food was very good, better than we expected in a guesthouse type of setting. Real Canadian bacon with breakfast, not processed ham. The room was very comfortable, good a/c, hot water, good internet connection. Location was very good for us as it was in the center of most of the major tourist sites and easily accessible to the waterfront with all of its restaurants -- less than a block in one direction. Less than a block in the other direction was a local daytime market for those who enjoy markets. They did laundry for $3.50 for a basket that contained items that cost us over $30.00 in a Bangkok hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

You pay for what you get here, so our room was reasonable for the price. It was very clean and felt safe, and the location was excellent. Very basic, but good for a short stay. Staff were friendly and helped us book our onward bus journey.

We had a very small room, I'd guess the ceiling height in the bathroom was 6.5 feet; not a problem but felt cramped. The bed was quite firm but looked clean. Short walk to the river front which was nice. There was a western guy, we assumed the owner, which was very nice and super helpful.

Great central location

We booked the hotel to be close to the bus stations around the central market. And it was a good hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfy.
There are some great restaurants around and the river front is 80m away.

Negative point: breakfast was not great

Great Hotel for Budget Travellet

This hotel is fantastic if you are s budget traveller . If you expect a 5 star hotel you will not have it, but here is what you will have : a great location, a clean room with TV and free WiFi which works well throughout the hotel , excellent , helpful friendly service . They are very helpful in finding transportation , tours, etc . Excellent economical meals . Don't have an elevator but we never found that to be a problem . If you want your luggage carried to your room , no problem . Overall we really enjoyed staying here

Good staff and helpful manager. Good food and drink at reasonable prices. Small basic room but this is expected at the price. A fantastic location near the Riverside. I will recommend this too my friends....the helpful and friendly manager makes the stay 5 stars.
