Love this place . Epic views , jump into cenote Esmeralda right off the dock . Take a boat tour from the friendly staff that operates via the same dock . Sunrise and moonrise over the lake was incredible and worth setting alarms for . A/C worked well and maids cleaned the room sparkly clean . Building is old so there are parts where tiles are loose but that comes with the territory being oldest hotel on the lake. Overall it was an incredible stay and a hard place to leave. I hope to return but we will have to get the private cabin that doesn’t have a drop off the porch as we will be returning with a toddler next trip .

This location should be removed from Expedia listing. It is an abandoned property as an online search will verify.

Three towels for four people, no air conditioning, no TV, no minibar, no hairdryer, no bedside tables, only one electrical outlet. The beds were comfortable and clean, the cleaning staff was attentive and very friendly, and the exterior was pleasant. The restaurant staff was inattentive and the service was very poor. No menu items were available, the coffee tasted like it was from the previous day, and the chilaquiles were tasteless and fried in very rancid oil

Ok, so if you want a place to sleep, this place is ok. The location is really good, but the hotel itself is run down. The mattresses are lumpy. We were told it was \"rustic\", but having what looked like fire ants crawling around made me a little uncomfortable. They do have tours of the lake that leaves from the property which was nice.and the views are amazing.

Let me start by saying the view of the lagoon was beautiful from the bungalow. However the place had a lot of ants and lizards. We also found some small insects in the bed while we were sleeping and fortunately they were not bedbugs. I don’t think we will stay again.

Main draw is the view and location

Best thing about the place is the view and location. On a beautiful spot on the lagoon and has a nice pool and access to lagoon swimming. The rooms are bare bones but clean and have a big balcony. There aren’t many outlets and strangely one is on the wall close to the ceiling. The staff at the front desk were nice and friendly. The restaurant didn’t seem to have regular hours and was a bit overpriced for what it was (don’t get the green sandwich).

If you want to stay on the lake but not have to spend a lot this is an option. Alternatively you can stay in a cheap decent place in town and then get a mostly consumable day pass at one of the beach clubs or nice hotels on the lagoon.

Bad place, we a bad experience at this place
As soon as we walked in to the room a lizard right in from, i asked the reception to move us, she had the worst attitude, she said well you will see different little animals at this place. My kids asked if they could sleep in the car :( trough the night i felt an insect on me, i jumped and it was a big bug, it flew away,
The reception never gave us anything to sign at check in or out. The place is horrible.

Hotel is located on a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Bacalar. It is perfect for swimming and enjoying the view from the room. It looks like the hotel was built long time ago and never upgraded or renovated. Bathroom especially was in really bad condition. We checked in for two nights but checked out after staying one night.

I tried to cancel my reservation after reading the reviews I am very happy I did not know there's no TV in the rooms no there's no phones in the room but there are are very comfortable beds the Wi-Fi worked great for me the 3 days I was there and The view is amazing also is able to take a boat tour for just 300 pesos and the food at the restaurant pretty good and very well priced I am very happy I chose this place

The only redeeming feature of this old (1972) hotel is the view of the Bacalar Lagoon. The restaurant was closed, there was not even a drinking glass provided in the room, sewer gases were backing up in the bathroom. It was smelling, cheap, and in extreme need of updating. There are other much nicer places to stay in Bacalar. Take the boat tour of the lagoon from the Aluxes Hotel, which has a great restaurant and looked like a good place to stay. Ask for Juan for the boat tour. If we had to rate the Laguna Hotel on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, we would rate it minus 1 stars.

nice hotel with room for improvement

Happy with hotel location and appearance. Unfortunately no TV available which is a big no no, AC available on certain rooms that you must request at booking which cost more. Mine had only ceiling fan which I was ok with since it was not too hot when I visited in first week of December. Two beds in room and both were in bad shape, not comfortable and need to be replace.

Beechy Lees Bees tour of Mexico

This was a two night stopover on our tour of Yucatan. The location is excellent. The hotel needs some decorative attention. The room was tatty and bathroom falling to bits, it also smelt badly. Our room overlooked the pool and bar which was quite noisy until late and again early. There was no air conditioning. It is a shame,as this could be an excellent hotel.

The hotel \"looks\" great, and has a truly spectacular view of the Lagoon, but, it is in severe need of an upgrade. The room was awful, awful awful. It smelled like sewage. When I asked for a new room, I was told they were full. I don't think so.

I just stayed at this hotel in Bacalar, Quintana Roo Mexico as a stop over on my drive from Belize to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico as it breaks the distance. Although I had dined at their restaurant before, this is the first time I stayed at this hotel, and I certainly won't be staying there again, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Rooms are antiquated, mouldy and without A.C., and the bathroom is very tiny. And I am being nice :) I must say the staff were also nice, especially the restaurant staff, and the dining experience was pleasant.

Beautiful site and location

The site and location of this hotel is great, it is right on the shores of the lake and there is the option to swim, hire kayaks or take a boat trip. it is unfortunate that the staff at the hotel are rather indifferent, they pointed is vaguely in the direction of our room leaving us to locate it for ourselves. The room had a great terrace with a view over the lake, it was more of a basic cabin with a fridge and air conditioning.there is a very small pool which was busy at the time of our stay. The hotel restaurant is not good, we waited 40 min for a fruit salad which was very expensive and not very good.

Checked into hotel and went to room to find cockroaches in the room . Went down to check out and the hotel would not refund our money !!! Called Expedia numerous time with no resolution! We left the hotel anyways and lost our money but there was no way we were sleeping there!!!

Great Views at the Hotel, great prices and good st

The Hotel was great we arrived prior to the Check in time and where given a great room # 206.
The views are stunning from this Hotel. The Hotel staff always was friendly accommodating and always available to assist and help. The hotel is a bit dated but I known this prior to booking. It offers decent room with internet, AC and Pool. The onsite restaurant was ok. Nothing to rage about but good prices and fair meals. The Hotel is centrally located between Cenote Azul and Downtown Bacalar. If you are looking for a few day stay i would recommend this place. There are many other charming places in Bacalar but not all will have AC or Pool and this where some of the main factors why I chosen this place.

We were heading to San Pedro, Belize but wanted to see Bacalar...so booked three nights. You only need ONE DAY to see Bacalar! Cenote Azul was very nice... but we drove over to Chetumal for breakfast once, a museum tour once, and a movie once.

NICE LOCATION, BAD SERVICE AND INSTALLATIONS

Quite bad: reservation as not there at my arrival. I was given very bad room till they get what I contracted (supposedly the best) for what I spent an awfull first night. Service is non existant: they simply do not care about the guest, if stuff does not work they will not attempt to resolve. Do not expect to make any charge to your room, it is not allowed: bring a whole lot of cash to pay for all services other than room. Overal, value is low, do not expct any magical stuff from the hotel, it is the lake only.

Got there at 4pm room not ready. Tv did not work in one of the 2 rooms we rented. In the other roon ac was not working. Paint falling off the building simply not a nice place. On th positive side was the guy that sold boat tours very helpful and took us to some amazing places and the laguna de bacalar is very nice with its colors.

Located above the laguna with access to the water. Decent to good restaurant. Wifi -- ok most of the time. Rooms need upgrades. Pool is fine. Selling point is the location away from Chetumal and on the main north-south highway, and only 10 miles or so to the main east-west highway. Good value for the price.

Better than expected !

Very nice hotel ! I was a bit worried after reading other people's comments on expedia but our experience there was totally enjoyable. The view from the hotel is just a pure delight, its simply amazing ! You can swim very easily in the laguna, walking two minutes from your room. Our room was very well located, rather simple but clean and with AC. I totally recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to take break before going north, to Tulum.

The real life Faulty Towers

I have travelled through SE Asia and stayed in some interesting places as a backpacker in my 20's, so I am not precious and from the mixed reviews which I had read about Hotel Laguna Bacalar, I was willing to sacrifice on the basis that the location looks and is amazing and that the negative reviews seemed to have a whiny high expectation <insert nationality here> overtone.
The sign on the driveway says that Hotel Laguna Bacalar was established in 1972. This is probably true for it doesn't seem to have been updated since. Hotel Laguna Bacalar is the kind of place you would see in one of those cable tv shows where they make over \"Horror Hotels\". It is so tacky, that it falls into the good category. It does not try to be anything. It is quite simply run down, (parts of it have already fallen into the Laguna) and poorly maintained.
On arrival we were provided an early check in, but found the floor of the room needed sweeping from beetles that had died, (potentially from the shock of the dated decor). After asking twice for these to be cleaned up, it was done (note: it took asking for another room and I was advised that there were none, before they sent a housekeeper). Later that evening we discovered that there was no hot water. Upon advising reception of this, I was told \"it was complicated\" I was provided a key for another room and told that we could move into it. While I fail to understand how hot water is a Facebook relationship status and how a room which was not available hours before now is, we were happy to be upgraded to a room with a \"padded toilet seat\", remote controls for the TV and dried staining paint spots on tiles, which looked like someone had been stabbed. Not surprisingly the hot water ran out again on day 2. This was a result of no gas. An hour later after switching the bottle and fixing the regulator we had hot water again.
If you don't expect much you certainly won't be disappointed, in todays standards Hotel Laguna Bacalar is BASIC and tacky. It is the location which lends some charm but there are other places on worth investigating.

The sunset was delightful. The room's without A/C were comfortable, screened well to avoid mosquitos. The atmosphere was pleasant, a lot of Europeans mingled there. I saw other comments that were negative, and almost overlooked this gem. I'd do it again.

The View from the hotel is the best in Bacalar! Unfortunately, the hotel is very old and in run down condition and the rooms are right over common area so it is very, very loud all hours of day and night which disrupts the otherwise beautiful and peaceful setting.

This hotel is in a beautiful location, but they were so unfriendly and unhelpful that it put a damper on the stay. The internet was spotty but the room was fine, with a gorgeous view of the lake. It's too bad because the place has great potential.

Poor quality and conditios of hotel

Since we did not have any other option,cause it was the only hotel with availability, we booked it!. we were expecting at least a comfortable hotel, due to the 3 stars, and all rooms with air conditioning.
When we arrived we had to leave a deposit of 150 usd in cash, plus we had to pay 50 usd more in order to have a room with air conditioning.
The hotel is ok for a poor 1 star, all the instalations are poor and old.
Next day we decided to eat breakfast but they had only one waiter for more than 5 tables. We waited a while and they did not had what we had ordered...
very poor service!!
What I payed is far worthy of what we received.

El hotel es una pocilga si pudiera le daba 0 estrellas el hotel está en pésimas condiciones, sucio por todos lados el restaurante no tuvo servicio no tiene ningún servicio de hotel, está mejor los hostales. Para el precio y por haberlo comprado por medio de expedía, pensé que estaría mucho mejor. De hecho cancelé la última noche porque me pareció un robo la tarifa para lo que ofrecen. Limpio, muy bonita vista. Facil de encontrar. Pero instalaciones muy descuidados, viejas, restaurante sin buen servicio.

El hotel es viejo y descuidado, la habitación tiene mobiliario viejo, los baños huelen feo, los aires acondicionados y ventiladores muy ruidosos, las ventanas descuidadas, parchadas con tornillos y clavos para que no se cayeran, solo tiene un contacto en la sala para poder cargar celulares, los colchones muy incómodos, y lo peor de todo, la gerente con una actitud nefasta y mentirosa, en el restaurante no pudimos desayunar por qué tenían un grupo de 30 personas y tardarían más de una hora en servirnos! Todo pésimo! Nunca regresaría!!
