I liked the location, outside of Arles but not too far. It had a tennis court, bikes and pool...my favorite hobbies! The gardens are just wonderful- make sure you explore. The rooms are all individually furnished.

It was rather like staying in a once grand Irish country house. It’s not 4-star anymore but eccentric and romantic, full of a decorator’s stock. The reduced staff is nice and helpful and the birds sing in the garden

Arriving at the property via the small lanes not helped by GPS navigation led to very low expectations. Once inside the gate there was a surprise. The property is an ancient convent with a lovely Chaple. The grounds a wildly planted with many different and interesting ponds, large fountains, and plantings. Worth a stay and visit to ARLES and ST REMY. Just be sure to have good directions to find the Havre de Paix,

Excellent breakfast served with fruit, cheese, cut meats, cereal, coffee, juices, and great french breads a pastries.

I’ve seen reviews which say this place is quirky. I would not describe it as quirky. I felt this place was a little spooky. It is very cluttered and unkept (both in the main house and garden areas). We had indicated that we had a lot of luggage because we were staying in France for 7 weeks and they ended up putting us on the second floor. It was difficult to bring luggage, especially since most of the ground is covered in pebble. When we got to our room which was supposed to be deluxe superior, there was a useless round couch that was fortressed by cement blocks and I have no idea what that couch was for - wasted space and we upgraded to get a bigger room so in the end we had less space than we thought we were getting as advertised. The bathroom was ridiculous with the tiniest shower with a circular shower curtain that would latch onto you when taking a shower. That’s simply unacceptable to make a shower that tiny (picture a quarter of a pie shape) and to circumvent it with a shower curtain that would touch people while showering. When we complained about it, they offered us another room, but it was very dark and depressing and so it was a matter of juggling one thing versus another, and in the end, the headache of having to change rooms when we’re not staying there for a long time wasn’t worth it. The decor in some of the rooms we scary/depressing seeing we were in the lovely countryside so it was an odd choice. Some paintings had ghost/alien-like floating people. Creepy.

Gentle but very faded glory

Definitely quirky. The lady who let us in was very nice but would not respond to my wife in French , talking to us in English only as that is where we are from.
The place is gentle but the train line is quite close by and was noisy except at night. Very tired looking hotel full of faded glory and did not do dinnner so we had to go into Arles for dinner - but we were given an excellent recommendation - GQ - which was great.
Also forgot that there would be mosquitoes at night which were a pain.

Beautiful hidden escape

This place was fascinating and beautiful, the gardens were lovely. The pool is stunning and each of the little cottages are really awesome. The only thing I would change is I would improve the beds as they were a little hard and my back hurt in the morning.

This is a unique property in the countryside near Arles. It is much like a boutique hotel. Every room is different and the general ambience is one of rural elegance. The extensive patios and gardens are great places to explore and relax, and it is only 10 minutes to drive into Arles to see the sights. Most importantly, the staff is friendly and welcoming. When we needed to change our reservation due to a flight schedule, Laurent was very cooperative. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique experience in the Provence countryside that is unlike any normal hotel.

Relaxed, Romantic and Charming

Mas de la Chapelle proved to be a relaxed, charming and romantic find.
Our room was set in a shaded area behind the lovely pool, with a small patio. It was comfortable and individual in style.
There is no feeling of formality, standardisation, or clinical modernity about the Mas which gives it an overall feeling of charm.
The reception area is chocked full of antiques and artwork
The extensive grounds are full of sunken rose gardens, large ponds full of lilies and fish, with statues and follies dotted around. There are many reclining chairs and tables positioned in little private, shaded areas
The maintenance is relaxed which adds not detracts from the overall atmosphere
The Owner is relaxed about guests bringing food and wine into the Hotel, and invites you to borrow plates, cutlery and glassware from the dining room for an al fresco lunch or dinner.
The Hotel gives relatively easy access, by car, to Arles with its ancient and artistic history and tiny streets with many, varied places to eat and drink.
Overall this Hotel suited us remarkably well, but we do love quirky, characterful places

Everything about this hotel was amazing! The grounds are breathtakingly gorgeous.The owner spoke perfect English and was very helpful with any questions we had. The soap bottle in the shower was empty the whole time, but we had plenty in the other bottles and used that instead. This place is a quiet piece of paradise and is great for relaxing in the gardens or at the beautiful pool. Just watch out for bees and spiders haha! Oh and breakfast was delicious, especially the coffee!

The rooms, the gardens, the location are excellent. Very relaxing and tranquil . The whole property makes you feel like you are living in an elegant, yet romantic big manor. Only thing we felt not convinient was the safe did not work, even after calling staff to repair. We had to carry our passports and valuable in the purse for our 2day stay.

This is a wonderful country estate house. Finely decorated with wonderful works of art and a fabulous garden to walk through. I would recommend this to anyone staying in the area of Arles. One of the best stays I have ever had. Glorious.

Property was rustic and the vegetation was beautiful. We thought that it looked a bit rundown. Our room was fine -- not our taste, but that was perfectly ok. It would have been nice to have more than 2 choices for wine and a few other cocktail choices along with the selection of a few hors d'oeuvres before going off to find dinner. We would have enjoyed this outside in the many lovely places to sit.

This is difficult to review. We had booked one of their comfort rooms based on the description and photos on Expedia. When we arrived, we found we had been 'upgraded' to a Superior room but unfortunately this fell well short of my expectations. The room was in an outbuilding (possibly converted stables or something of that nature. The room and furniture was beyond 'shabby chic'; it looked unloved and tired. Because of the distance from the main hotel, we couldn't get any hot water and when I pointed this out I was told to let it run for five minutes. Later in the day, I complained to the manager about the room and discrepancies with the photos on Expedia and he immediately offered us one of their best rooms in the main hotel. This was recently decorated with a newly fitted en-suite bathroom. Very stylish and comfortable. So 4 stars for the second room but only 2 for the original room. The hotel has a good pool and extensive grounds. The whole place is quirky with an amazing collection of antiques and objets d'arte wherever you looked. Breakfast was good but expensive at 10 euros a head in low season rising to 16 euros per head in high. Our room was kept immaculately clean and the hotel staff were all friendly and helpful - as you'd expect in a family run business.

Special hotel near Arles

We stayed for one night on the long trip around Provance. And it was awesome experience. It is not a hotel (even small family owned) you are used in Europe. It is like Hasienda in Mexico or California or small English manor reorganised in a hotel. Large territory with English-type lawns and small ponds, various antique staff everywhere - unforgettable experience. Rooms, however, are nice, with good facilities. Breakfast is reasonable, as you can expect is such places.

Hidden tranquil perfection

Charming beautiful original tranquil, take your pick as none of these words do it justice. Its unlike anywhere ive seen or stayed before and i cant wait to find an excuse to go back. Its a little tricky to find the first time but actually a great location for exploring the camargue and alpilles. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and homely whilst being totally origìnal (we had Chambres Indienne). Breakfast was a plentiful buffet but a little pricey for everyday. There is a Leclerc just 5 mins away which was perfect for all you could need for both food and any other supplies. It looks like they are making even more improvements to the already magical grounds. Wifi is only strong close to the chapel / reception but if you need wifi whilst on holiday then you are there for the wrong reason!

Absolute gem of a find.

Quite hidden, but a truly wonderful place. The grounds are beautiful, enchanting and peaceful. The chapel itself has a marvellous ora of tranquility, art and history to it. Beautiful pool. Very good (if pricey) breakfast. One of our best stays ever (and we travel a lot). Just so full of charm. A true provencal experience.

Shabby Chic?

The lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful. I was very disappointed with my room because it was nothing like the photos on the site. It was really shabby and in an annexe. The room was clean but it looked worn out and grubby.The room is expensive for what it is. As was the breakfast for 16 euros each, but it was a good breakfast.The room was in need of a make over. Some of the furniture was broken and all of it was old , perhaps this was meant to be chic. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. The hotel gardens were a great feature with lots of little private areas for sitting out. The whole place does look really charming and individual. The swimming pool was potentially dangerous as the water was dark and it was impossible to see the bottom. Clearly a danger if a child or anyone fell in as they could not be seen. There are no signs to indicate the depth of the pool and it is very deep in most places. To be fair the pool is securely fenced. Parking was good and secure. The hotel is located several miles out of town along very narrow roads but it is well singposted.

Character boutique hotel

The hotel is a bit in the middle of nowhere, outside of town, but when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel seems like a converted estate home. It has a lot of character and charm. My wife really liked the look and decor of the hotel. It almost had a bit of a museum quality to it. There is a really nice swimming pool, larger than most hotels, which we really enjoyed after a hot day walking around in the Southern France sun. The rooms themselves are not large but not small either compared to NY or Paris standards. The a/c worked well and wifi was decent in the room. The only negatives about this hotel is that it has few amenities (aside from the pool) - ie. no restaurant or real lounge, and the location is a bit out of the way so having a car is a must if you are staying at this hotel. Other than that, the hotel is great. The property is absolutely beautiful.

Pros: love the landscape, the art and style, the land, the quiet, and the \"monastery\" feel.

Cons: my guess is this property was once great, and the owner may have passed and a son or daughter inherited the property. The gardens have clearly stopped being attended to, and upkeep have ceesed for some time. The beds need replacing, and new management needs to come in and take care of the place. It's turned into a \"no upkeep cash cow\". Shame, the place has huge potential.

Charming hotel off the beaten track

Wonderful charming place! Artistic character! Old house surrounded by enchanting gardens with fountain pools and sculptures. Our room was called the Napoleon very apt as it was dressed in black and white brocade - but with new bathroom. Breakfast room was lovely. About 15 minutes drive from central Arles. A real treasure.

Out of the way, but in a good way

Beautiful large property about 15 to 20 minutes outside of Arles, France. Large gardens full of plants and insects -- great for my photographer husband. Felt very peaceful after a couple long days of driving. I wish we had been able to spend more time at the hotel, but we were sightseeing in the area. It was very convenient to Arles, Camargue, Beaucaire, Pont du Gard (with a car). The only slight negatives were 1) there wasn't a true air conditioning unit, so the room felt slightly damp all the time and 2) the \"shower\" was really a bath with a long handle sprayer and no curtain, so showering was a little awkward.

Beautifully decorated, a unique opportunity to stay in a Knights of Malta chapel turned boutique hotel, the history is palpable. Extensive grounds and well kept gardens with some of the regional white horses in camps next to the property. All together a good location for a romantic getaway.

A beautiful experience, not just a hotel room

Certainly this property is about 5 km out of Arles and you need a car having said that it is like a haven after days of travelling and trudging around monuments. Each room is beautifully appointed, well the ones I saw and there is an instant sense of welcome and a great feeling of peace and relaxation. I stayed one night and wished it had been at least five. It is a resting place,
a place to prepare for the next leg of the
journey, consistent with the property's
historical associations with the Templars' provision of rest to weary travels. It is advertised as a hotel of charm and that is certainly true but it also has great peace and a feeling of being nurtured.

We loved this place out in the country. It was a Chapel surrounded by farm land. It has been renovated with treasures from all over the world. The room was large and airy and had french doors leading to a fountained patio. All good. The negatives were that the grounds are overgrown, the buildings need outside cleaning and attention. If that were done it would deserve a 5 star rating. It is hard to find but worth the effort.

Beautiful hotel with lots of character

A really interesting hotel, based around an old chapel and lovely grounds. We had a lovely time. We did not have a lot of time to enjoy the facilities (spa, pool, hotel breakfast), but these looked liked they could be great. The hotel staff were friendly and when we arrived, the receptionist gave us a great deal of useful advice about the area and Arles. Washing was great value - €5 per machine load and delivered to our room the next day. An overall great experience.

The funky, eclectic collection of antiquities, photos and artifacts adds to the location and setting of this unusual accommodation. We particularly enjoyed the pool. Even though the spa was closed for July and August, as it does every year, an in-room massage was arranged which was very pleasant.

Unusual and quirky.

Firstly the hotel is in the outskirts of Arles. It is very rural and very hard to find and there are no signs until you are almost there. Arriving after dark would be near impossible. The single track road is not on some maps so GPS location would have been useful.
It is quite comfortable with pleasant gardens and unusual furniture but is not really the 4 star standard which it claims. Parking is within a secure gated area. Did not stay for breakfast as we thought €9 per person was pushing it. There is a Macdonalds and a big Leclerc with cafes at the roundabout where you turn off onto the D35 - just 5 minutes away.
OK as a stopover.

The hotel is somewhat remote and hard to find (particularly at night). But once there it is a gorgeous enclave of stuctures grouped around a beautiful garden including a lovely swimming pool, fountains and areas to relax. Strangely there is no staff on duty after 7.00 pm, so plan to arrive in good time and enjoy.

A hotel to relax with the family

The rooms are quite grand and ornate, but slightly disappointing: the shower fixture was broken which you would not expect of a four star hotel. Breakfast was good but overpriced for adults. The swimming pool was fine except for the signs asking for children to be quiet and the limited room to lie near the pool.

Mas de la Chapelle is located in a very relaxing setting with all the amenities for a peaceful stay. We enjoyed being with nature--birds singing, frogs croaking, rooster crowing in a beautiful setting. The day begins with a large selection for breakfast which can be enjoyed in a perfect outdoor enviroment.

Had difficulty finding the hotel but our room was lovely--spacious and well-appointed. Very nice breakfast buffet. Grounds are in need of some serious maintenance but the weather at the time of our visit was fairly cool so we wouldn't have been outside much anyway, plus spent most of our time in Arles and not at the hotel. Common areas in the main part of the hotel looked as if they could use a good dusting/cleaning, but all in all, it was the most pleasant hotel of a two-week stay in France and Spain.

Run down and out-of-the-way

After arriving Arles, we were directed to take a bus to Hotel du Mas. The bus took us to a town way beyond the hotel. After a costly taxi ride back, we were stuck in the middle of nowhere at Hotel du Mas. Hotels.com representative was very nice and cooperative and allowed us to change our reservation for the following two days to a beautiful hotel in the town of Arles -- Hotel Jules Cesar.

Imagine being invited to the country estate of a wealthy gentleman, who at the last minute is called out of town on business but leaves his friends in the care of his trusted young butler. Such is the feeling staying at this expansive place. The garden is a bit overgrown, ducks and chickens are kept at the far end of the grounds, the pool is surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs, and the butler keeps a basket of extra towels for the guests. A vast collection of antiques furnishes the rooms. Guests meet at the breakfast terrace and then disperse to follow the day's whims. It is probably one of the more unusual hotels I have stayed at.
The hotel is a ways out of town, and unfortunately there's an unattractive industrial area between the two. Aside from breakfast - which is self-serve and overpriced, though there is a discount for children - there is no food available, so it's best to stock up on food in town if you are planning on just relaxing on the grounds - which are exquisite. There are several large dogs that live here. They are friendly, but one snapped at my young son, so the caretaker had to lock them inside for the duration of our stay.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel - the staff is accommodating and helpful, and the feel of the hotel makes it stand out from the usual offerings for overnight stays.

Hotel du Mas de la Chapelle

I wanted to stay in an old historic property close to Arles, France. It was amazing with a large swimming pool beautiful grounds with flowers and statuary and fountains. Our room was charming. The only problem was the shower didn't drain and water was everywhere.
It was memorable and the breakfast was superb. I would stay there again.

Nice but noisy kids there

My husband and I were quite surprised that even though the pool sign said \"quiet\" there were 3 little girls there and a family who pretty much took over the pool.
There was also a baby in the next room that screamed a lot of the night.
So, I think they should decide what type of hotel they are and make the cost accordingly (pretty pricey).
The cost of the very good breakfast was EXTREMELY high, also.

A beautiful surprise, however very difficult to find as lady from Hertz gave us incorrect directions. The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable bed and bathroom. We had a lovely breakfast in the garden in the morning and explored their amazing garden (which is a bit behind in it's maintenance). Wi-fi worked well. Would definitely recommend even though it is a 10 minute drive out of town.

Beautiful country setting

This hotel is set on a back road just outside of Arles, and is gorgeous. It worked great as a home base to explore the countryside, and was perfect for our weekend. It would also be a great place for families (nice pool, plenty of space to explore). My only advice is to take the hotel phone number with you if you are driving in -- it was a little tricky to find coming in on a different route than web-based directions.

Gardens showing a year of neglect

For the price, I think that my stay was average. The gardens and grounds show about a year of neglect. There were three large dogs roaming the property, one of which was jumping up on people and would not listen to commands and was not controlled (sharp claws needed to be trimmed, the dog tore my wife's sweater). Air conditioning worked well and the room was clean.

Provence Paradise

Wow. We spent two nights at Hotel du Mas de la Chapelle, and we loved it. It's not your typical European hotel experience, not by a long shot. It's a country estate, with beautiful buildings in a storybook setting. Our room was huge and gorgeous, but the hotel offers a variety of options, with rooms in the main house or in the outbuildings.

It's not in town, it's really out in the country, but we managed fine without a car. The taxi rides were about 16-19 Euro in each direction between the hotel and the center of Arles. With a car, as another reviewer mentioned, this would make a great base for exploring all of Provence.

Two more points: The staff was excellent, friendly and professional, and the breakfast was by far the best continental we've experienced in Europe.

Country-living in Provence. Spent three nights here while day-tripping by car to Rhone river wine country and historic surrounding towns of Arles and Avignon. Hotel grounds were rustic and beautiful. Rooms were a bit tired with small TV. Bathrooms huge, could use a shower curtain. We had some spider roommates, but that's what you get when your room opens to a lush garden environment. Other reviews note excessive train noise, but give me a break, this the periodic whispy sound of a train blowing thru is hardly a bother, don't pay attention to those nitpickers.

A real charmer in the country.

Said it earlier. Most pleasant surprise on trip. Exceptional value. Small and quaint located on a farm not far from town on country road. This place is secluded, quiet and a nice break from the
town. The rooms are all unique and very spacious and beautifully furnished with period furniture. The grounds were a little overgrown, but it was end of season and much fall cleaning was occuring. Breakfast is available, but there is no restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants within 2 miles. We highly recommend and would certainly stay here again. Picture shown on Hotels.com does not fully capture the beauty and uniqueness of this facility.

Un mas sur le déclin ..

Un mas avec un potentiel énorme qui a perdu ses heures de gloire sans doute . A l’arrivée on trouve vraiment charmant cette plongée en Provence, mais… un jardin qui manque un peu d’entretien quand même . Notre chambre confort mimosa avait une odeur d’humidité, ok , nous sommes en Camargue mais aussi dans un 4 étoiles !!! Il ne mérite vraiment pas 4 étoiles . Un petit déjeuner hors de prix ,et vraiment tout ce qu’il y a de plus basique . La personne qui nous a accueilli était charmante, un peu sur la réserve à notre présentation de chambre ; la piscine est cependant agréable , dommage que les trains bercent la sieste !! Quand au check out , fait par le propriétaire, d’une froideur absolue .même pas de s’inquiéter si tout s’est bien passé !! Bref , dommage , nous n’y retournerons pas

È un luogo assolutamente particolare, ricavato in un'antica proprietà ecclesiastica dipendente dall'Abbazia di Montmajour. Ovviamente, essendo in mezzo alla campagna arlesiana, è soggetto alla presenza di insetti. Consigliato solo se ricercate un'esperienza particolare e se avete l'automobile, perché è qualche chilometro fuori Arles e l'accesso avviene attraverso una mulattiera.

Un salto nel passato

Siamo arrivati nel pomeriggio in questa struttura antica una vecchia casa di campagna francese con annessa una capella da cui il nome della struttura.
Molto d’effetto la struttura con un bel giardino curato ed una piscina al suo interno.
Il corpo centrale è molto antico e ben restaurato ma l’impressione generale è quella di essere in un museo un po’ abbandonato.
Le stanze sono all’interno del corpo centrale e fuori in piccoli corpi intorno alla piscina.
Stanze di charme ma un po’ antiche….

Cadre (jardin, piscine) et chambre agréables... mais quelques détails feraient davantage penser à un 3 étoiles: travaux de finition (carrelage fissuré, pommeau de douche sans attache, fromages et charcuterie industriels au petit petit-déjeuner.. etc). Originelles Romantikhotel mit grossem etwas antiquiert wirkendem Zimmer , leicht muffig aber mit guter Klimaanlage.
Grosses Schwimmbad schön angelegt, gutes Frühstück auf romantischer Terrasse. Der Garten könnte noch etwas gepflegter sein.
Genügend Parkplätze im Innern der grossen Anlage.
