Had to settle for a regular king room instead of the suite I booked weeks in advance because at 4:03 the suite still wasn’t ready. The doors in the room state check in is at 3:00.
We checked in at 2:00 to see if the room was ready early. Apparently the 2 hours we waited wasn’t enough time to clean the room i booked. I was more than willing to pay an early check in fee.

I understand lapse of staff happens but as a business you had all day to figure that out. I was offered a free appetizer and drink for the trouble. We already ate out trying to waste 2 hours because the room wasn’t ready? The people in line after me were offered the same “treat”

Very low standards here, shower drain was clogged the whole time. Shower head sucks, shower curtain was dirty, shower plug drain was also broken making it constantly close when trying to drain, rude staff, no parking except for an outrageous daily fee.

They nickel and dime you. Parking is an expensive extra charge. They charged $35 for parking in an unsecured lot.

Also there was not soap in the shower dispenser.

Also the water bottles they have in the room are $3.50 and the tap water is overly water softened

This is my 5th stay. I love having my car secure right across from the hotel. The walking path by the river is beautiful. Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking this and it is so peaceful. The rooms are very clean and good sized. We have always had hot water and the beds are comfy. I love that they supply full sized pillows, four to a king bed. The front desk folks are very nice and the panini in the bar is excellent.

TV did not work kept locking up and maintenance would have to come and reset it every time we wanted to watch. Then it would lock up again.

My choice to stay at Rivers Edge was for the proximity to the hospital. But even more than that, the hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. My original stay was for two days. I ended up returning for a third night. The front desk staff treated me like an old friend returning. After a couple of long and stressful days, that was really appreciated.

My take

I stayed two nights and I was more than satisfied. The staff was nice and accommodating. I was alone so I asked for a room on the highest floor. I was excited to find out that the 5th was already reserved for me. A room that wasn't near the elevator. It was very clean, very comfortable and very quiet. Just how I like it! The room actually looked better than it did online. The river walk trail was a huge bonus! I loved it!

We stayed in a king bed with sofa bed, balcony view room. This room was very small, with the sofa bed out you couldn’t move around the bed. The listing states that it can sleep 4 but, it isn’t comfortable. The room was clean and the bathroom was very spacious. There wasn’t much of a view from our room as the trees block your view of the water. The staff were friendly and the parking was easy.

This is a really lovely hotel that we've stayed at twice now. Our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed with a pretty view of the river from our balcony. There are miles of paved walking paths along the river and several good dining options very nearby. The staff is warm and friendly. Parking is easy. We will stay here every time we are in Portland.

Great experience. The balcony rooms are amazing. Sitting on the beautiful river, watching joggers and dog-walkers over a morning cup of coffee is my idea of heaven. The pub offered good burgers and fries and great conversation. It’s a quick walk to ride streetcar to all Ortland has to offer.

I was charged twice for parking, but they did take the second charge back. Since it was a trip to see family we weren’t at the room very often. One day we didn’t get any service at all for new towels or coffee couple times we didn’t get cups for the coffee. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but I think I would choose a different hotel next time.

The room overall was very nice. The biggest problem was that the AC was broken in the main room and it was a hot day so it took until late evening for it to cool off, the AC worked fine in the bedroom. We had drinks and dinner at the restaurant, the drinks were delicious but then got served undercooked chicken wings. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will stay there again but next time we will eat at a different restaurant.

Watch for hidden costs

Fooled by the balcony advertising. We were on the first floor and there is so much foliage in front of the balcony that you cannot see the river. The balcony furniture was filthy as was the balcony. King beds were nice and the bathrooms are big and spacious with refillable amenities instead of small plastic bottles.
Lots of hidden costs, water bottles are free only for elite Hilton members. Parking is $29/night and if you purchase the breakfast package the tips are not included in the daily allotment. Very small and expensive breakfast menu.
Best part is being on the river walk.

Nice hotel. Hotels.com said « free breakfast « but it is actually a $15 per person credit and this may not cover a full breakfast. We also had to follow up and make sure the credit was applied. The fee for parking was unclear on the reservation as well and was $29 per night. The staff was very friendly and it was very comfortable and quiet with a wonderful riverwalk behind.
