I can’t praise this hotel enough. This is the best hotel we have stayed at and we have been holidaying in Italy for 30 years. Definitely somewhere I would recommend and would plan to come back to.

We had such a great time at Castello di Monterone. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay—always available and super welcoming. The service was excellent from start to finish.
Our room was spotless, the shower was fantastic, and everything felt very comfortable. The castle itself is beautiful and full of charm—it really feels like a special place. It’s also just a few minutes’ drive from the old town, which made exploring easy.
We also really enjoyed the restaurant. The food was delicious—we tried the crocchette di patate, tartare di manzo al coltello, tagliolini al ragù, lasagna vegetariana, crema di pomodoro, and costolette di agnello. Everything was tasty and the restaurant staff were just as lovely as the rest of the team.
Breakfast was great too, with lots of choices and everything fresh. And on hot days, the swimming pool was a real treat.
All in all, a fantastic experience. We’d definitely love to come back.

The castle is beautiful, with every single detail taken into account. It is located on top of the hill, offering a breathtaking view. The swimming pool also has two outdoor jacuzzis. It’s a nice, quiet, and peaceful place to be. Finally, the restaurant at the hotel is a great option.

We were also fortunate ebough to run into one of the staff, Alan, who was able to tell us the history of the castle and area. Super interesting! Lovely place big you want the castle experience in the center of Italy, few options like this one. Very well restored castle with beautiful grounds. Not huge, so very cozy. We were just there in December, and we were lucky to have nice weather. But I am sure in spring or early summer it must be fantastic. They have a pool and 2 hot tubs. One this I pointed out, is the mattress and pillows need to be upgraded to reflect the level of the structure and excellent service. On the latter, everyone is extremely nice, and being more of a boutique setting, it is nice to get to know everyone. To finish, the restaurant is excellent. worth a stop but if for just dinner. it is very close to Perugia, so if you are renting a car, totally worth it.

Beautiful restore property very clean with tiny rooms unfortunately we will not coming back ever we spend 3 nights there and the air conditioning in the all property does not work even in the restaurant where i invite 7 guests from the arra so you are sweating all day and whole night..i concluded that they tryng to save cost... understandable but not at the expenses of the costumers.. after expressing my self to the management they offer me lunch and some local wine but i decliner respectively.

This was the most beautiful property we have ever stayed at. Staying in a castle with so much history in the 13th century was surreal. The bedroom was a bit dark but castles aren't known for their big windows. Bed and bathroom were great. We had dinner there 3 nights which was also superb with good wines to match and reasonably priced for where we were. A gorgeous view from the restaurant and other areas. Perfect.

The Castle is gorgeous but make sure to arrive before dark as it's very difficult to find afterwards! When you arrive, follow the sign for \"Residenza\" - DO NOT follow the parking signs or you'll end up in the middle of nowhere wandering around in the dark as we did! Once we made it to the hotel, thato a very kind man who works in the restaurant, it was lovely, and the view when we woke up the next morning was spectacular!

Perfect location, 15 mins from the airport, peaceful with fantastic views of Perugia and the sound of church bells echoing across the valley below. You definitely need transport though as it is too far to walk to the city centre. We stayed as a family of 4 in two interconnecting rooms. No damp castle rooms here, they are warm and dry and larger than we expected after some of the other reviews, one superior (with great view) and one standard.
Restaurant is a little lacking in atmosphere but food is good and staff are excellent. Breakfast is in the same place and is simple but good quality.
Pool is not heated but there is a sauna/steam next to it
Overall this hotel is superb value, pushing 5 stars and we will be coming back.

This was a truly phenomenal stay. Pictures can not do this place justice. It is absolutely perfect. I recommend staying in the rooms with a view and eating at the restaurant. The staff at the castle including the restaurant were above and beyond to make us feel like royalty. The breakfast was also way more than a simple continental breakfast, it was delicious. Also do get a car and explore Perugia town.

Fantasy Castle on Hill
This is real castle, albeit it was modernized so it is sort of eclectic as to period. It is on hill top about 10 km from Perugia and you can see the town of Perugia from some of the rooms, from the restaurant terrace and from the castle gardens. We were there in mid May and everything in the garden (especially the roses) was blooming. The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful and the restaurant is surprisingly good. There is sufficient free parking for hotel guests in a lot above the garden. However, for touring of Perugia itself what I would strongly recommend is to take a taxi from the hotel to the main square in the town. There are Zona Traffica Limitada (ZTL) areas within Perugia and the streets are VERY narrow and confusing and parking in town is limited. The taxi fair is cheap and you can have wine with lunch or dinner and not worry about drinking and driving. We stayed in a lots of lovely places on this 3 week trip to Italy but my wife and her cousin picked this as their favorite hotel of the entire stay.

Beautiful grounds....incredible views...lovely accommodations...and only about 10 minutes from the adorable town of Perugia, where there are plenty of lovely boutiques and restaurants. A little disappointing they didn’t have an actual spa on site, but if you plan ahead, they can book a massage therapist for you (we weren’t that organized and tried to book when we got there). They also have a steam room, sauna, and pool you can use at your leisure, so that was nice! And...the hotel staff was wonderful! They were even able to set up a same day wine tour and tasting for us at a charming, local winery (Lungarotti), which we absolutely loved! I would DEFINITELY stay here again!! ❤️

Um...yaaaa. I travel a ton and this is now my favorite stay ever. Felt like I wanted to have a sword fight. Every other couple there agreed. Good food, great people, real castle, amazing views, clean and nice rooms, great location to explore Umbria and even southern Tuscany. Don’t stay here cause then it will be hard to book next time we come.

We had a small problem with the initial room that was kindly adjusted and fixed by the staff. We ended up in another room but the quality was all the same. You may find that the place surprises you, it has some things you might not expect like a terrace on the roof with a good view of Perugia, a small library, a bit of old art, a rose garden, and a Sauna.
Service was excellent with all accomodations that would be expected, provided. Bed, air conditioning, and overall atmosphere was comfortable. The bath we had could make bubbles.

This is a must stay castle/hotel. It is so beautiful and charming you will never want to leave. The staff is so professional and nice not to mention that we had the opportunity to speak with the owner for a moment and you could tell he really cared about how our stay was. The food at the restaurant is simply amazing and is very reasonable for what you get as are the bottles of wine. The room had a lovely patio with a wonderful view, the room was very well appointed, comfortable and extremely clean. I am not kidding when I tell you I want to live here!

We highly recommend Castello di Monterone to anyone who wants to visit Perugia. The grounds and gardens are beautifully kept, with spaces to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
