Well maintained, modern hotel reasonably close to the city centre and convenient for the train station. Breakfast was very good, although some more hot food options would have been nice. Service was good and value for money was excellent.

Lovely hotel, friendly staff and fantastic breakfast choice make this an ideal base for a stay in Perugia. Wish we had taken a taxi from the airport as the airlink bus and metro were great but the lack of signage at the back of the hotel and the dreadful paths leading to it meant a poor start to the trip. However that said if ever we came to Perugia again we would most certainly stay at the hotel again.

Very good hotel - restaurant provides good cuisine at reasonable prices. Breakfast buffet outstanding quality. Only ‘complaint’ was lack of walk in shower. Bath with hand held shower difficult to navigate as panels too high and no grab rail. However pluses far outweigh the negatives. For those - like us - using Perugia as base to c
For independent travellers HGWeJA is very accessible by public transport. It is about 1km from the main rail station. You can get buses (B,C)to and from the bus station which stop very near the hotel. The TS circular bus (Mon- Sat) will take you into the historical town in less than ten minutes and return you in under 15 minutes. Recommend Umbria50 7 day card for €45 -

Although a bit dated, the concept of a wine and jazz hotel is fantastic. The atmosphere was great, especially when there was live music. E.g. for breakfast! A bit pricey for what you get, but I would definitely go again.

Easy Downhill 8 min walk to the Tram Station, and a easy 22 Min walk down later in the evening from the City Center

Lunch as excellent at the Hotel, and the breakfast options were great as well

Large hotel. Rooms are very dated and have jazz deco. They have a massage chair in each room. I felt like I was in a 2 star room. Mattress was covered by one sheet. Used a towel to add protection. Restaurant and service was good. Parking good.

Good place to stay with cribs and parking

Parking can be tricky in old, walled Italian cities so we opted for this hotel slightly outside the historic centre as it has a car park and baby cribs. Arrived at lunchtime to find plenty of space at the front of the hotel to keep the car during check-in The lobby was nice and modern and check-in was quick and efficient. Our room was in the other block, next to the car park so got back in the car and went to the other block (literally just across to road so very easy).
Parking was straightforward but the other block was much older and a little dated. The theme of wine, jazz and chocolate is a bit quirky but, hey.....! Room was comfortable enough although smelled a bit fusty. We were pleased to find the crib had already been set up in the room and was suitable.
Walk to the historic city centre is not long in distance, but is strenuous as it's up a steep hill so took about 15-20 minutes with buggy.
After getting back down to the hotel and doing baby bath time etc it was getting late and no nearby eateries were open for takeaway, so we went to reception and ordered room service from the restaurant which claimed to be very good. Once the food arrived we were very pleased to confirm that the food is indeed very good and very reasonable considering it was room serviced!
Didn't get a chance to check out any of the other hotel amenities. Overall, not amazing, but suited our needs perfectly so very happy.

The hotel is close to local bus station. If you don't want to walk uphills and downhills. There are buses to the University of Perugia, the city center (Piazza Italia) , Bus Terminal and Perugia Railway Station. A supermarket (Conrad) is close by.

There are not much restaurants in the neighborhood and no scenery.

Breakfast buffet was excellent! Hotel restaurant menu was limited and hours of service were limited. There was a period of adjustment to no overhead shower in the tub, but we worked it out. The room was great, room cleanliness was great, staff was great, we'd stay there again if we return for the Umbria Jazz Fest.

The property had a really relaxed vibe, most of the staff were really wonderful and helpful. the decor was fab, roof top pool was just what you needed to cool off all in all a really lovely stay and would defo return in the future and recommend to others.
Need to note that this hotel is not in the old town but transportation is a 5-10 minute walk away, reasonably priced and no waiting times at all however it is down a hill so the walk back is up a hill!!! having said that i suffer with my legs and I did it in 10 minutes.

Yes. More than expected The check-in fast. They even let me practice my Italian which I love to do. All of the meals were well serviced and the food was great. The entire building and surrounding areas were well kept. There is a MiniMetro which is nearby to get to the hotel but a safe and fun ride is a cab through the windy streets of Perugia. The entire theme of the hotel is about jazz and wine and it all comes to life at the hotel. Go!

We stayed here on an Italian road trip the lady who checked us in was fine the room was musty but the pool was great long walk up a steep bank to the centre we returned after an evening out got back 1120pm there was some kind of dispute between the desk clerk and a customer that got quite heated we had got back early to have a coffee as there are no facilities in the room to do this the time the argument finally finished it was 1150pm I ordered two coffees to be told they stopped serving at 12 by the boy that had just finished arguing with the last customer I explained that this was why I was ordering before they stopped taking orders he was clearly not happy maybe just not the job for him

This is our first day in Italy, we booked this hotel in Feb with expansive payment. The room that they signed us is not expectable. There are two buildings, please make sure that you stay in a main building, not the other (very small room with poor smell). Also the hotel is far from the center.

This is an interesting hotel: their specialities are wine, jazz and chocolate...

The hotel is in 2 buildings separated by a roadway: the buildings are connected by a tunnel under the road. The restaurant is in one building (Wine), the breakfast room in the other (Jazz). There are numerous conference rooms and public areas are spacious. We enjoyed dining in the restaurant and found the breakfast selection perfectly adequate.

Our rooms were at the back of the hotel on the 4th floor and these have a balcony with a view (see pic). Rooms are comfortable and well appointed with fridge, safe, wall-mounted jazz player..and a massage chair. This delivers a thorough and vigorous workout from hips to neck: after a day walking round Perugia I rather wished it did legs too!

The hotel is a 20-25 min walk up steepish slopes to the centre (Duomo). It was chosen to ensure we were well clear of the Perugia ZTL (traffic limited zone). There is, however, a bus stop almost outside the hotel and some 200m away is a mini-metro, which we used - ask at Reception who will give you a map. The driverless, single carriage 'trains' appear to run frequently. The €1.50 ticket was well worth it, in our opinion. The walk back downhill wasn't too bad.

Overall a good hotel which we'd gladly visit again.

good basic hotel a little way out of the town,but handy downhill walk to the train station. we managed day trips to Rome ,Assissi and a trip to a nearby lake all by public transport which is very reasonably priced.
The staff are excellent -Nicola and the team helped with all our train timetable enquiries and the fantastic buffet breakfast set us up for the day ahead

We walked from the station, uphill with cases so would recommend a taxi. The rooms and breakfast were very good. We're given incorrect directions to the light rail, not their fault a bit of communication breakdown with languages. When we found it, was not too far from hotel. Definitely value for money

Stayed one night in January. Hotel is at western edge of city down a steep hill from historic center of Perugia. Parking behind the hotel. Lots of jazz motifs in decoration. Helpful front desk. Room comfortable, clean. Bathroom with Jacuzzi tub but handheld shower wand and no shower curtain. Didn't try wine bar or restaurant. Excellent, large breakfast. Access to center is difficult -- walking is steep and parking impossible. Taxi may be best bet.

Decent hotel, far from the centre, unhelpful staff

This hotel is quite a way from the main part of the town, about 20 minutes walk up the hill. When we arrived on a Sunday, we had just missed the lunch service, which finished at 3pm, and the restaurant didn't open again until 7.30pm. I asked for some advice from the reception staff and they were really rather unhelpful, couldn't tell us any place that would be open and didn't have any food at all to serve us. So we had to all get a taxi into the centre and hope somewhere would be open. Part way into our stay on a sunny day in June, we asked the directions to the pool, but were told it was shut with little explanation. The hotel itself is somewhat over-themed, but the attitude of the staff lets it down a lot. Even if you can accept this, I would suggest choosing a hotel in the centre, which is really quite beautiful.

A fancy and Comfortable Hotel

This is a very nice property within 20 minutes walk to Perugia historic center. The hotel has a very nice decorations and the staff are very helpful. There are two issues that need improvement. One is Internet signals which are weak and slow at times. The other issue is the shower with no curtain and low-installed shower handle which makes it difficult to take shower.

Great hotel with great breakfast buffet.

Lovely place to stay and staff are very accommodating and helpful. You can have a good night sleep as the hotel is quiet and peaceful. The only thing I can moan about is the bed. They don't do double bed. They have two single beds stuck to each other. Otherwise it would have been perfect!

This hotel has everything

Friendly, spacious, stylish, highly efficient, and comfortable. Tasty, truly Italian food in the restaurant, served with panache and of an impeccable standard. Brilliant wine list and the combination of wine, jazz and chocolate on which the hotel prides itself gives the place real character. Five minute walk to mini metro and you're in the old city , surrounded by Renaissance art and architecture and the magnificent Umbrian landscape.

Theme was clever. No view and on a busy road. Hotel was confusing to navigate and staff gave no information on the features of the hotel, such as wine selection available for purchase, jazz music on headphones in lobby, pool location. Multiple elevators which accessed different areas. Very nice breakfast. Rock hard bed. Nicely decorated room was very clean. Frustrating WiFi. Shuttle service was excellent!

A Gem!

We only stayed one night as we were getting ready to leave Italy. It is a great hotel at a very reasonable price. Breakfast was awesome a complete buffet. The hotel staff was extremely helpful! The hotel is on the outskirts of the town of Perugia. The hotel suggested we call a cab to get into town unless you are a hiker I would suggest this. The hotel is set up with Jazz theme on one wing and wine theme on a separate wing. I was hoping for some live music but they only have that in July during the Jazz fest. There were videos of Jazz playing in the hotel. I will go back to this hotel if I go back to this area of Italy

Loved this hotel! Spacious bedroom, the furnishings were of a high standard. The wine, chocolate & jazz theme were great. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, and smelled fresh. We were out for most of the 3 days we stayed there, but still managed to have a relax by the rooftop pool. All the staff were very friendly & helpful. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was a good selection and of a high standard. The only criticism is that it is situated downhill from the main town centre, so it's a bit of a walk up to town. Plenty of parking if you have a hire car though.

Very nice hotel with a strange name

We enjoyed out stay at Hotel Giò but didn't avail ourselves of the wine, jazz or chocolate. The rug in our room is such a strange design that our first impression was that it hadn't been vacuumed, but then we realized that it was a design of the night sky! The Internet was good but required logging on constantly. The room only comes with one Internet connection but more can be given to you at check-in if they're needed. There was plenty of free parking, but the traffic in the hotel's location is very dense and requires some care in entering the roadway. My recommendation is if the price is right, the Giò is a good deal for a nice hotel.

Quirky and fun hotel in Perugia

After a long delayed train journey, this hotel was a lovely surprise. A little out of the way if you are travelling from Perugia station, so probably wise to take a taxi. The building looks very plain from the outside, but as soon as you walk in, it is a quirky assortment of jazz-related items, such as vinyl records, pianos and everything music.

Check-in was friendly and quick. It was later at night, so a kind gentleman quickly arranged our room and took our particulars so we could relax. He was also good at helping us purchase a bottle of wine for the room, and opened the wine, providing glasses.

The room was lovely, quirky and fun. Jazz themed, it had a CD player on the wall, huge comfy bed and whirlpool bath. The room was spacious, with a good big TV. The only downsides to the room were the dated curtains, and the headboard was uncomfortable with large dominos hanging from a metal rail. The bathroom was good, however the shower was not wall mounted, and there was no shower screen, which resulted in a soaking wet bathroom if you tried to shower yourself. However, the quirk if the whirlpool bath was great.

Breakfast was lovely. Large choice, with coffee, tea, pastries, biscuits, cakes, meat, toast, etc. Massive dining room was jazz themed. The only let down was that coffee was available to order, but staff didn't offer this, and talked amongst themselves instead of paying attention to guests.

The day staff weren't quite as friendly as night, but overall great stay.

Not a 4 star hotel, more like a Super 8 or Quality Inn

European standards must be different. Although this hotel was clean and the front desk staff very helpful, the room was not 4 star. The carpet was worn, the pillows were flat, the AC barely did the job. The room and bathroom were clean. We arrived about 8:30pm and the resturant was closing at 9:30Pm, the front desk however called down to them to reserve a table for us. We should have walked around the block. This was the only bad meal of our Italian trip. The breakfast the next morning was a full continental and we enjoyed it much better that the dinner. Would be a good hotel for someone on a strick budget or possibly students looking for a bargain.

We found the hotel easily using satnav. Although we arrived late in the evening the check-in was straight-forward and we were soon in our large triple room. The beds were comfortable and we had the use of a luxurious massage chair (other rooms had different types of exercise equipment).

The Jazz theme is fun, but not intrusive. Internet access is free throughout the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. We left the car at the hotel and walked a short distance to the MiniMetro station that gets you to the historic centre in a few minutes - tickets can be bought at the hotel desk.

Fun hotel

We had a relaxing stay at this fun hotel. We stayed in the wine area and enjoyed both the wine and the chocolate. The tunnel connecting to the Jazz area was cool, and had running videos of great jazz concerts. The restaurant was first rate. We needed a laundromat at this point and found one a 10 minute walk away. We had a treadmill in our room which was a nice touch.

we would go back

We very much liked this hotel, and Perugia - we expect to return at some point while we would give much of the rest of Italy [sorry], especially Rome, a pass. We have recommended that our friends the Canadian chocolatiers give it a try asap.

When we asked for restaurant advice the manager suggested the hotel itself - fair enough. Later, we asked a young lady working elsewhere in the hotel where she would go to eat and she sent us 100 metres up the road to a pizzeria / taverna [go out the front door, turn left, cross to the other side of the road at the fairly major intersection, go in and enjoy!!] where we had one of the best mealsof the three weeks / four countries trip.

Very comfortable

We had a handicapped-friendly room which was well equipped. The furnishings and decoration were first-rate. The hotels are set back from the road and easy to miss, but once you understand the setup, all is well. We enjoyed our experience.

The Wine section of the hotel is not as nice as the Jazz section. I was put in the Wine section, whereas my colleague was in the Jazz section, although there was no reason that I could understand as to why we were in different sections of the hotel. My shower leaked and there was some mildew on the sliding doors. The bed was quite stiff and not very comfortable. The armoire was very old and the drawers were difficult to open. I would place this hotel room at a 3-star level, not 4-star. However, the breakfast room and food was very nice. My colleague's room in the Jazz section of the hotel was better.

Felt more like a motel

Service was lackluster. Staff was never rude, but seemed bored and disinterested. Even when my husband spoke Italian to the staff, we had a hard time getting good information about the area or how to get around. Although the hotel was clean and modern, our room was very stuffy when we arrived - like it needed a really good airing and maybe a healthy spraying of Febreeze. Even though Wi-Fi was promised, it was not delivered. We could not use our own computer to connect to the Internet, but rather had to go to the Wi-Fi area\" and use one of several public computers to access the internet. The hotel restaurant was the one redeeming quality. Overall, the hotel wasn't terrible, and I'm sure it would serve many people just fine, but we left feeling like we had just spent two nights at an American roadside motel. Next time, we'll stay elsewhere.

Hotel Gio is roomy with many more conveniences than most hotels in Europe. We enjoyed having a large bedroom and dining area, free PC and Wi-Fi, an ample breakfast that was not surpassed elsewhere, friendly and helpful staff, and convenient location in Perugia. Highly recommended if you are going to Perugia or Assisi!

Outstanding hotel... full of ambiance and character, best in off-season!

We got this at a great rate mid-week, and it's definitely the hotel we would send our friends to when they come to Perugia! While it's not directly in the center, it is close to a Mini-metro spot and the hotel itself is modern, clean, and comfortable. The great dining, wine, and art on the walls made us not want to leave the hotel. Definitely recommended.

Very nice hotel. Close to the train station and only 5 minutes driving to the historical centre. Staff is very good. The restaurant is very nice and has a huge selection of wine. Recommended!

2 hotels joined one great other dodgy

The Gio hotel is actually 2 modern hotels attached by a gallery, the Jazz hotel and the wine hotel. The Jazz was completed in 2007 and is clean, modern and comfortable with good en-suite bathroom. The Wine hotel is about 25 years old and looks it! The rooms we were shown were \"worn\" and grubby. Some stink of cigarettes, others not really clean by modern standards. However, the front desk service was helpfull and friendly and we were very happy to be transferred to the Jazz Hotel room. It is a 20 - 25 minute uphill walk to the town centre, take a bus, metro or cab. Easy to walk home downhill!. We found good, reasonably prices trattorias in town.

Per la colazione il servizio lascia un po' a desiderare... Parecchio personale che vaga nella sala... Alle 9.30 inizia già a togliere tutta la parte dolce del cioccolato (chisura colazione pore 10.00!!!). Fare 4 punti diversi della sala e non trovare un piatto... Da un 4 stelle mi aspetto molto ma molto di più come servizio...
