The worst 4 star hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The room was okay but the lift wasn’t working. The shower in the morning was lukewarm even when running for over 5 minutes. The tv didn’t properly work as couldn’t view the guide! Avoid!

Car park did not work. This lead to us having to park outside while we run into reception to ask how this worked. You are not allowed to park right outside the hotel which is not sign posted which results in us having to run from reception as we received a parking ticket. Had to park in a different car park which again we were not made aware you can pre book this with 20% off. They also don't explain that you don't need a ticket and therefore we ended up having to pay for the 2 parking charges costing £40!

The spa ect was not explained to us and what they had to offer.

The posh restaurant which we booked for on the Sunday especially for the roast at 5pm was shockingly bad! We rushed to get there on time for 5 only when we sat down we were not given the sunday menu so after 10/15 minitues of waiting only until we went up and ask were we told we cant have this and that we could only have 2 course and was limited to what we could have. Also to mention we wanted 10 minutes before a drinks menu was given to us. We ended up walking out and going elsewhere and staff didn't even seem to care or try and stop us from leaving or offer an alternative.

No temperate control in room, it was very cold) Called reception to be told it’s been turned off in all rooms)

Very loud music coming from the floor above until 1am, no advanced warning of this at the time of booking.

No hot water in the room after 9pm, again told by reception that it gets turned off and would be back on in the morning.

All in all an extremely disappointing experience.

We will not be returning to the Cube.

Location was perfect the view was amazing. Staff was friendly especially the supervisor kesha but i had to wait along time for coffee and milk refills. The breakfast wasnt very nice, meat was uncooked and the scrambled eggs was too runny. The room was absolutely freezing no heating working. I had to stay in my coat all night. There was someone elses hair in the bed and all in the bathroom, stains on the towel and rubbish left on floor outside room corridor for 2 days

The room was very tired with lots of scuffed, chipped and marked paintwork. Lots of stains on carpet and seating and very dusty around bottom of window frame.
Bedding was very clean and comfortable.
Sky bar being closed at 10.00pm was really disappointing as it was a big reason for us returning to the hotel again. We got in at 10.06pm and could not get served. We were not impressed with Our experience on this occasion.

On check in we were given a leaflet, on it said that there may be events on the weekend with some possible noise until late. We unfortunately were given a room that was directly under the dj table. After that was over other residents decided to continue the party in their rooms, some even decided to run up and down the corridors. At 4 am a woman started screaming at a man in the corridor until both were removed by the police apparently. If you want an eventful night it’s great but if you actually wanted to sleep forget it! Will be looking for a quieter hotel on our next visit to Birmingham.

Paid £20 for “romantic petals” and swan towels on the bed which looked cheap with fake petals that you will clearly reuse

Extractor fan loud. Asked reception how to turn it off. They first said you can’t, then said it would turn off after the light was turned off. They sent a man up to have a look. The man smelt of weed, flushed the toilet and turned the shower on. He had no idea how to turn the fan off so said he would ring someone and come back. He left the shower running and never returned.

Could not sleep due to sound of fan and the room being full of light as the curtains didn’t meet giving huge gaps for light to enter and flood the room.

Awful experience. Would never stay again. Ruined anniversary.

Hotel staff make you feel really welcome!

The staff were amazing every part of the hotel. So kind and lovely to guests greeting them at every opportunity. The bar atmosphere is so engaging and the dj was brilliant. The views are splendid!

Unfortunately the Air con was flashing error upon entry but room at that time felt ok but by time I got back late the room was so cold and there was no one on reception to ask for help to see to the error so I had to use the tiny electric radiator which did not warm up the whole room.
Having shower caps available would have been so useful.

Quiet Hotel near waterfront.

Nice room, really handy for the waterfront establishments and the Mailbox. Easy walk to Grand Central station and the Bull Ring. Only problem is the air conditioning does not work, however we were provided with an electric fan without any hassle. Would recommend and would use again.

I have stayed in The Cube on quite a frequent basis but i fear my most recent will be the last.

What has happened at The Cube? my first room was ...... lets say grubby not a good start with the dirty footprints on the bathroom floor but the cables hanging from the back of the TV just gave the impression that nobody cares, but the final straw for that room (which is in effect a glass box with no opening windows was the failure of the air conditioning leaving the room like a sauna.

On request for an alternative room I was told it wouldn't make a difference because none of the rooms had working air-con. But at least I would have a TV........ I thought but no, this one would not switch on. By now I just couldn't be bothered anymore. So if you like an evening of wondering around the city and then back to a hothouse to watch youtube on your phone this place would be fantastic..... for everyone else, give it a miss.

NO AC in the Hotel - Rooms are a SAUNA.

The hotel had no AC and the room was like a sauna. There were 2 fans but all they did was blow warm air. Went to Reception to complain and was told all rooms were like that due to facing the sun. Was offered a refund and told to find alternative accomodation which wasnt great service. Then I was told that the Hotel hasnt had AC in the rooms for 2 years and that explained it.

Will never come back here, there should have been a disclaimer on the website at time of booking as I would have arranged an alternative hotel.

Air con breaks don’t stay if the weather is good

Do not stay here if it is remotely warm outside. The air con was not working and hadn’t been for a few days. The room was unbearable hot and I got almost no sleep.

On speaking to another guest it wasn’t the first time either. Fans provided just push hot air around as the floor to ceiling windows act as a greenhouse and make it far hotter than outside.

Whilst the lady on reception did her best to help, the male receptionist was very rude to me when I spoke with him and another guest.

The bed two poor quality singles pushed together with a huge dip in the middle.

Reception staff on arrival rude and sarcastic esp Reception Manager. No air conditioning. Had two rooms one had average air con the other none. Lack of air con not highlighted by staff. Could have been managed so much better. Room phone not working. Took 2 hours for second fan to arrive. Cold water tap regularly issued hot water. So, a number of HSE issues. Left after 1 of 3 nights. Reception staff on second day much more helpful. Went to Hotel du Vin which was first class.

At check-in the receptionist was lovely, she efficiently got us ready to go into the room. When we opened the door there was two standing fans there and when trying to turn the AC on nothing happened. We called reception and another fan was given however, the room was so unbearable to be in we decided to check out. Again the receptionist was really understanding and as there weren’t any other rooms available offered a refund for our room.

The rooms do not have air conditioning. As they are in a tower block with big windows which don’t open, the room was stifling. Two fans didn’t touch it.
I felt sorry for the staff on the desk. I checked out and they agreed a refund.
They simply should not be selling rooms if they are unable to provide them at a habitable temperature.

We was told maintenance were fixing the issue - when we arrived back after a night out the heat was unbearable so we had to move rooms at 2am in the morning! Arrived and checked in. On entering our room, it was like a sauna! The air con did not work. We returned to reception to be told there was no alternative room as no room has functioning air con!
Why were we not told this was the case??
Cancelled booking and luckily got in at the AC Hotel next door, cheaper, cleaner, great breakfast, and all staff friendly and welcoming. And with functioning air con!
Apparently, they have had many people checking in from the cube due to the issues with lack of air con and no hot water, poor to no maintenance.

Booked the Cube Hotel as a treat night away, on arrival given one access card which didn’t work, had to go back to reception. On getting in the room there was a musty smell and it’s was very warm, air conditioning didn’t work but the electric fan did.
Only two sachet of coffee provided which was reported to reception but not actioned.
The TV didn’t work, could get apps but none worked, reception sent a lady to look at the TV but still couldn’t get it to work.
On return from our evening we thought a drink in the bar which were told would be open we were told they were closing at 9:45pm, we said we were residents and offered reluctantly one drink which we now declined.
Hotel on check out reimbursed 50% of the stay.
Would have expected better from the Cube, lots of other hotels in Birmingham with better facilities and service for cheaper.

Room was absolutely ridiculously hot and had a fan going. I rang reception to ask if any other rooms were cooler and was told no but receptionist said she would switch aircon on from there. I phoned back about 20 min later as aircon had not come on - was told she would reset it and it takes 20-30 mins to cool down. It didn’t ever come on and about 1.5 hours later at 10:35pm receptionist called me to say I could move to another room with 2 fans (aircon had still not come on). Alternative room was very slightly cooler and also had no working aircon but I repacked and moved as anything was better than the absolute oven I was in.

Convenient, clean but a little tired

We have stayed in a few of the balcony rooms to date. They’re always lovely. However, this time the room was looking a little tired. The curtains were hanging off the rails in 2 places & we didn’t have any patio furniture which was a shame as the balcony was very large. Other balcony rooms we’ve stayed in before had patio furniture so we could make the most of being outside.

Very old and tired with no obvious maintenance. Carpets filthy, curtains ripped. Air con broken in a room like a greenhouse. I’m assuming as in administration since late last year, no investment has been made.

Reception staff not welcoming and seemed disinterested.

Only silver lining was breakfast in Marco Pierre White restaurant which was very nice and had attentive staff.

The breakfast was lovely and the areas special with the views. The staff were all smiley friendly and helpful. The rooms were good spec but the carpets had lots of marks and spills on it. The room was incredibly hot and the air conditioning didn’t seem to be working. There were some fans in the room which helped a little but not much through the night. No one mentioned that there was a problem. Very good site in the centre of Birmingham and worked for us.

I liked the location and ease of access from downtown.

The entire experience has been soured by the lack of notification of a pre-existing problem at the hotel in regards the non working AC. The fact that we aren't refunded following default by the hotel to provide advertised facilities is criminal and I will let everyone I meet know not to stay at the establishment.

Not up-front about a room with a broken TV

The room was nice and clean and the hotel was furnished in a modern way. We checked in as early as possible at 3pm but we were given a room they knew had a broken TV. When I complained they said no one was able to help fix it and the hotel was full so no room change was possible. They gave a slight discount but only because I complained and asked for it. A working TV is important in a hotel room and so the visit was spoiled because of this. I was disappointed that they were not up front about the TV and put us in a room with a fault, and I found it hard to believe that no room change was possible in such a large hotel. We also chose this hotel on the hotels.com app because it said it had parking, and the assumption with that is that it means free parking.
