Hotel Okapi is a nice hotel. The staff are very nice. Rooms are adequate. The hotel is located in a wonderful spot. My only complaint is they have a sister hotel called the Panda. You have to go through them if you want a new reservation at the Okapi or if you want to stay longer. There’s a gentleman who answers the phone at the Hotel Panda who is extremely rude. They don’t want your business. They post prices on their website and then when you go to reserve the room, the price is higher than what they say it’s going to be. When I called to complain about it the host at the Panda was extremely rude and told me that if I didn’t want to pay the higher rate I could go elsewhere. I just thought it was very poor service and had it not been for the good location of the Okapi, I would certainly have gone elsewhere.

Excellent place to stay. It was clean and convenient. The bed and pillows were so comfortable! The view was nice from my window (I was in room 11). AC was a plus, but it wasn’t even needed half of the time because the room was cool (north facing). I will stay here again if I come back to Rome!

Good overall, No A/C or mini fridge

Great location, check-in was quick and easy, locating the room was easy, air conditioning unit was not working in our room and the room had no fridge to keep things cool, bed was comfortable.

Overall enjoyed the stay, however the air conditioning could had been fixed, and there was a cooler present, room was a bit small but that was not was not an issue.

Well priced basic hotel in good location

There’s nothing fancy about this place but it’s clean, reasonably maintained and in a great location. Easy to get to from the airport and metro, then easy to walk to many of the main attractions (eg Colosseum is about a 40 minute stroll down the Corso). Decent food options nearby. Staff are just ok and bed was absolutely rock hard but otherwise, would recommend to a first timer or someone looking for a good budget stay.

Good location, but would not stay again.

It was okay, would of preferred paying the tax at the beginning of the trip not the end, we lost 50 Euros in our room which made us feel a bit uncomfortable in the hotel, and there was a black box in that kept going off at 3am with loud radio noises,and we would have to get up and turn the electricity off and on which wasn’t great. We also got locked out one night and no one was willing to help us that just kept repeating themselves and kept pressing the buzzer but it was locked on the inside and therefore the keys and buzzer did not not work, luckily another guest let us in. Great location, but the service could be improved.

Nice clean budget hotel. We stayed here for two weeks and found it excellent for public transport, with it being far enough from all the main attractions but close enough to them by foot if we wanted to visit at night. The staff were very helpful.

Needs a good clean

The room had several weeks of dust and the bathroom was not very clean. During my three night stay the room was never cleaned thoroughly
The bed had a dodgy green quilt on it without a cover, I very much doubt this is cleaned between guests.
The reception is not manned 24 hours a day which was not explained to me on arrival
My room was overlooked by the buildings across the street so had to keep the curtains closed.

The hotel was clean and efficient. Just what we wanted for our 3 night stay. It was also close to the major attractions in Rome, and the metro station was right around the corner.
Mel (hotel manager) was very welcoming, and helpful.

Return visit left us a bit disappointed.

The personnel was very helpful each time we needed assistance, but we did not have cable tv as advertised, the safe in the room was not operational (needed batteries), and the bed and pillows were not comfortable. That being said, the location is excellent for the price. We stayed here 4 years ago and expected the same level of comfort. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

We were travelling on a budget.The room was airconditioned clean and quiet all really important midsummer in Rome. The staff were helpful and friendly. So on balance it was the best money we spent while in Rome, I definitely recommend the Okapi rooms.

This place met our needs basically. Price was good for what you get. Zero lobby space and the street was busy / noisy. Other than sleep and wash we did not enjoy being in the room at all. Very small but again suited us well for a three day stay in Rome.

Nice place to stay, a few steps from Via del Corso

Th right place if you like to walk to the tourist places in Rome, a few steps from Piazza del Popolo, where Via del Corso begins (or ends), a lot of nearby places to eat, to buy or to visit. Bus and Metro stops really close too. Location is perfect.
Spacious and neat rooms with the basics you need to rest after long hours of walking through the city.

I liked the room and its cleanliness, as well as Location of the hotel. Unfortunately there was no refrigerator to keep cold drinks, no microwave or coffee machine to have a cap of coffee or tea in the morning. There was no computer in the hotel for public use, and wifi was weak and unstable. Even to make a phone call you needed to call first a front desk and ask for an external line (like in XIX century).
Improving all of this greatly affects rating of the nice place.

Good location and lovely staff

This hotel is easy to find and great if you are on a budget. it is near all the major sites and just off Piazza del Popolo. The first room I was given was very dark and not very nice, I spoke to the receptionist who kindly changed my room to a much nicer one. Mel the receptionist was amazing, very friendly and helpful. He always had a smile on his face and was ready to help. The hotel does not offer a breakfast but there are supermarkets and cafes near by.

Issues at the end of May 2016

Okapi Rooms were an fair 2 star hotel but with a great location. We found the bathroom far too small. Taking a shower was difficult and the bathroom door did not open completely. The counter staff was great. They made contact with our driver for an early Monday morning pickup for the ride to the airport. Our biggest issue was that the A/C cooling side was not changed over from heating and the weather was very warm. Sleeping at night was a challenge.

Speaking hardly Italian, I have found the Romans extremely helpful. Mohamed night manager stationed in Okapi rooms was very hospitable, kind and empathetic in resolving a certain issue which occurred at a cash machine, before checking in Okapi rooms. Overall, I am well pleased with this stay.

Great location. But the family room was not as expected from the pictures. Bathroom so small it would not allow more than one person at the time. We lived on the top floor and with dark and low ceiling the room felt very small. On the positive side staff were friendly, and the room had sasmall terrace. And the fact that it is located close to Popolo, Spanish steps the vatican , and good shopping streets.

Okapi rooms are exactly as potrayed a no frills pleasant small hotel in the heart of Rome. The facility is clean and the rooms are a reasonable size although the showers are somewhat small. The street noise that has bee evident in other Rome hotels was not an issue.

Ideal for shopping

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed it quite a lot. Despite the fact that the metro station was quite far and actually was closed when we arrived, we delighted in living near the main shopping streets and not very far from Vatican.
What we disliked about it was how small the hotel was but we didn't mind because it was so cosy and clean.

Chambre extrêmement petite où il est difficile d’être à l’aise. En plus il y avait une infection de fourmis. Le rapport qualité prix n’est pas au rendez-vous. Vendue pour presque 450 euros la nuit sans petit déjeuner. On ne s’y retrouve pas. Seul bémol, l’emplacement, le quartier est superbe, proche à pieds des lieux historiques et du métro.

Non si può definire un bed & breakfast perché 6 piani di camere lo rendono un hotel vero e proprio. Comunque non è al livello di un bed & breakfast figuriamoci di un hotel. Stanza piccolissima nella quale facevo fatica a passare dalla camera al bagno. Il bagno piccolissimo con tutti i servizi uno attaccato all’altro senza la possibilità di usarli comodamente. E soprattutto non c’è la possibilità di fare colazione perché la sala è in ristrutturazione. Avrei gradito una riduzione della tariffa della camera o un ticket per fare colazione in un bar convenzionato. Invece no tariffa intera (70,00 euro) e senza colazione. Ovviamente sconsigliatissimo.

Tuve que hacer yo una llamada al hotel porque el personal de Expedia nunca pudo resolver un problema de cargo a mi tarjeta de crédito. Nos atendió un señor llamado Melchor, muy amable y nos pudo resolver el problema. El hotel es altamente recomendable y muy bien ubicado. A dos cuadras de la Plaza del Pueblo en Roma.

We woke up early every morning to the cleaning lady's noise (talking/shouting/banging) from the corridor, as heard through the door Also shower was leaking to bedroom floor. Die Dusche etwas klein. Den fest eingebauten Duschkopf MUSS das Hotel ändern. Das Einzige Manko.
Das habe ich auch der Dame am Empfang gesagt.

Neben dem Hotel zwei sehr gute Restaurants.

Wer es etwas gehobener mag, dem sei das Hotel Locarno auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite empfohlen.
